  • "The cottage is great, very well equipped and laid out, the rear entrance vestibule is perfect for changing out of wet clothing and storing stuff."

Some really great design features make the property perfect in use - for example the rear vestibule seats are made from skis is just brilliant. The location is perfect for Glencoe walking and Fort William for visiting. There are plenty of walks in Ballachulish without the need to take the car, in fact the area is very cycling friendly too with most roads having a cycle track alongside. My only moan is the internet speed which is pretty slow but I don’t realistically expect fibre broadband in this location, it is useable, just slower than we are used to. Would I go back to this cottage? Absolutely

Loch Leven Hotel literally next door with a public bar and food. Holly Cottage proved to be quiet and yet next to the main road (100 metres) Having stayed in over 30 other types of accommodation as a regular visitor, this faired very well and I will return.

  • "Holly Cottage is brilliantly situated for access to the best mountain scenery in the UK."

If you love hillwalking, this cottage is ideal. The living area is generously sized, comfortable and affords great views to a couple of Munros just across the Ballachulish bridge. The cottage is well-equipped and the utility room is a real bonus for drying out wet coats. A most enjoyable week. Thank you.

Parking easy and the cottage was well situated. The short walk to the loch at the end of the road was a true delight as we spent hours watching otters playing and various birds from the small island, well worth a wander. We would stay again.

  • "All in all the cottage was extremely comfortable and very clean."

However several items which needed attention spoilt the overall experience. Firstly inside the front door the plaster board has been damaged but the door handle and not repaired. The shower in the en suite produced little more than a trickle Also the fitting that hold the actual shower head is cracked and fails to adjust. Other than those items we really enjoyed our stay and foundnthe owner to be extremely helpful.

  • "We had a few issues with this cottage which we felt was not up to the standard of previous properties rented via Sykes."

The stainless steel top of the toaster was completely black with burnt on residue and looked as though it should have been changed. On the one occasion we decided to use the dishwasher we could not get it working and suspect there is a fault with the controls. There was black mould on the the wall behind the cistern in the bathroom which was not a good look. The couple using the ensuite room felt that the size of the sink and the position of the tap made it very difficult to wash in. These comments have been passed to the owner on the feedback form in the cottage. Other than the points above, the facilities and equipment within the cottage were good and the location idea for exploring that region of Scotland.

The whole cottage was very clean and comfortable. I felt at home there during my stay. My only slightly negative comment would be how cold it was. The central heating needed to be on and all the internal doors closed to keep the heat in. However, there were plenty of small electric heaters available too, so I could have used them if it got too bad. The cottage has lovely views, is located next to a pub and a very nice art gallery. It’s a perfect base for exploring Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands.

The communication with her was second to none. The location is perfect for the Glencoe ski resort and the views from the living room floor-to-ceiling windows are absolutely captivating. The property was clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans/utensils and I especially appreciated the large fridge as we cooked a lot ourselves rather than eating out. The cottage is tastefully decorated (wood-burning stove was definitely a highlight) and the bedding is great quality. We all slept really well! The only let down was the fact that the bathrooms looked a little tired and in need of updating. Nonetheless, we had a really great holiday! Thank you :)

There was a lovely welcome pack in the kitchen. We had everything we needed for our week's stay. The 2 showers are electric so not what we are used to but adequate for a holiday. The stove was very welcome for a rainy November. There were plenty of logs and we were happy to buy our own kindling and fire lighters. The owner contacted me during week as they had received delivery of kindling if needed. There is a large Co-op store 5 minutes away in Ballachulish which should have pretty much anything you need for your holiday. The area is outstanding and perfect for walking and enjoying the outdoors. I would recommend the property to anyone.

  • "The cottage needs manuals for operating the dishwasher and the cooker otherwise everything was self explanatory."

The owner did say on there post that a log fire was available but the logs didn't arrive until the day before we were leaving. There is nothing to light the fire with, so perhaps a warning to bring fire lighters. The view is excellent from the front of the cottage and it is in a reasonable position for local areas. Also required are directions to any local shops as we couldn't find any and had to travel to Fort William for any supplies.

Please find all Instructions for the white goods linked to in the Welcome email; this is part of our covid compliance. This email also links to a pdf containing a variety of local information including shops etc (which are located in the nearby villages of Glencoe, Ballachulish and Kinlochleven). When we chat with guests pre arrival to provide the keycode for entry, we invite all guests to get in touch with any questions they may have during the week, rather than to wait until their stay is over. This gives us the opportunity to respond quickly and fix any issues that may arise. We live very close to the Cottage and can easily help over the phone, or pop round, to show guests how to use the cooker and dishwasher. We apologise for the delay of the logs which took longer to arrive than we expected; kindling and firelighters are located in the lounge next to the stove. Property Owner

Located just off the main road and near the bridge over Loch Leven, I was a bit concerned about traffic noise...... however very little could be heard. Overall the cottage was probably in its correct comfort / amenities category, though the covid pandemic meant a number of seful things were removed by the owners, but there was an online link provided, offering info etc. Clean and tidy, large comfortable sofa, TV a bit too small. There were only the two of us and though its 3 double bedroomed property, I think more than four would feel crowded. For the price we paid it was certainly good enough and we weren't disappointed. The outdoor table with the view is in the front garden and as such you do hear all the traffic going over the bridge.

About the location

BALLACHULISH

Kinlochleven 8 miles; Fort William 15 miles.

Deriving its name from the Gaelic Baile a' Chaolais meaning 'The Village by the Narrows’, Ballachulish straddles the narrows at the mouth of Loch Leven. Encompassing North Ballachulish and South Ballachulish, these two villages were separated until 1975 when the Ballachulish Bridge opened. North Ballachulish sits just across the bridge while South Ballachulish lies 3 miles to the east on the southern side. North Ballachulish offers a hotel and petrol station/shop, whilst South Ballachulish has a supermarket, coffee shop, Post Office, pubs, hotels and a Tourist Information Centre/gift shop. Ballachulish attracts many visitors throughout the year and is a perfect base for those wishing to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Ballachulish once had a major slate quarrying operation which continued for over 250 years until 1955 when the quarry was closed and today the old quarries are now being reclaimed by nature and the area is famous once again but this time as an idyllic holiday location. Nearby Kinlochleven boasts Ice Factor, an indoor ice and rock climbing centre, plus Fort William, with the impressive title of the Outdoor Capital of the UK, is situated 15 miles to the north with access to the famous Nevis Range, and Glencoe is within easy reach. With Fort Augustus and Loch Ness about an hour’s drive away, Ballachulish is a fabulous holiday location.
