  • "We had a wonderful 2 weeks."

Property was everything we wished for. Locals very friendly, and suggested places to take our dog. The whole area is very dog friendly. Loved everything and everywhere, except Stranraer.

  • "A wonderful house!"

I was there for the Raiders Bike Races and the house is perfectly located on the High Street. It had every amenity you might want, including an air fryer!! Lots of space right in the middle of Gatehouse. Our Host popped round to make sure everything was ok, and everyone in the town are so friendly! The pubs serve amazing food if you don't want to cook. It's a great base for exploring the area!

The bed has been upgraded since then, The location is excellent for access to Gatehouse, Cafes, Pubs and the Park, and central to many places other of interest, lack of a garden was not an issue. Our host was very helpful. There is nothing we would complain about and we had a lovely holiday. Not too much rain, more days of sunshine than anything else. All good.

Clean and tidy and comfortable. Pub up the road, shop over the road. Bustling little place but not too busy. Easy parking on the road or in the car park. Plenty of local woodland walks and easy to get to the major sights. I didn't get to see all on my list so, at some stage, I think I'll be back.

We had a really warm Scottish welcome from the owner, who was really helpful. The location is excellent, with access to walks into the woods and to the beach. The village is peaceful and quiet, the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. Great for dog walkers too. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is due to the working business next door, as the business needed early access to their property.

Very comfortable accommodation in which, everything worked. Good WiFi, smartTV, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, and well equipped kitchen. Right I'm the centre of Gatehiuse of Fleet, minutes walk from supermarket, shops, cafes, Mill, pubs and restaurants. Once inside, very quiet and comfortable location No allocated parking spot or garden, but even over a busy Easter weekend, we never had a problem parking on the street and there is a free car park opposite. There are parks and woodlands literally on the doorstep, so we did not miss a garden at all. Fantastic longer walks from from front door, so you needn't use the car at all if you don't want to go further afield. Very warm welcome and easy communication with the owner. Definitely recommended.

We very much appreciated the welcome bottle of wine and biscuits on our arrival. Very well equipped cottage and everything has been thought about for a comfortable and relaxing stay.. The accommodation was comfortable and warm. We were surprised that we were not allowed to pull up outside the cottage to unload. This had to be done from the nearby road. We never had any problems parking nearby and there is also a car park close by but this is not really suitable for loading/unloading as it is across the road through the town. This is not something the owner can change as the yard belongs to someone else.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
