  • "Lovely stay and the property feels like it's on it's own and does not feel like an annex at all."

The hosts were lovely and information for all appliances etc is all there in front of you when you walk in. Plenty of walks from the property and I saw a kingfisher on the river just behind the coop. Plenty to do in the surrounding area as well. The road is not an issue at all and we appreciated the proximity of the CoOp. All in all an excellent few days and we will happily rebook in the future.

Thank you for your excellent feedback Simon - we are glad that you and your mum enjoyed your stay so much. And thank you for leaving the cottage so clean - really appreciated! Kindest regards, Mark, Leila and Henry. Property Owner

  • "Very good. We enjoyed staying in this very stylish cottage."

The owners live next door and they were always helpful, there to show us round the cottage and give us a lesson on the wood-burner stove, after that they always respected our privacy- perfect. 2 mins walk to the co-op, by far the best food shop in Langholm. Unusually, we had a double/king size bed each as they are link-lock so can be unlinked to give 4 beds. Upstairs, I found earplugs useful as there were a lot of trucks on the A9 early morning (though the sound insulation was good, the A9 is near). The central heating can only be adjusted by the owners but we didn't have to ask as the sun shone through the lounge windows and the basket of wood provided in the cost was more than we used all week. Marvellous base for walking and our hosts were experts in the walking, providing excellent info. in the cottage and whenever we had a chat about our walks when we met them.

GOOD LOCATION AND WE SPENT A DAY JUST INSIDE THE ACCOMODATION WHILST IT WAS WET. BUT IT DID NOT DAMPEN OUR HOLIDAY. ALL AMENITIES ARE NEARBY.

Thank you so much Akmel for your kind words. We felt for you with the weather being so bad, but are relieved to know that you enjoyed the coziness of the cottage in spite of the weather. We hope to see you again soon - and many thanks for leaving the cottage so clean - much appreciated! Property Owner

  • "We had a terrific stay at the Stables , the cottage was very clean and comfortable with every facility we needed."

Leila and Mark were lovely hosts and always very helpful. The Langholm area is great for cycling with a huge variety of easy and challenging routes. The cellar at the cottage was ideal for bike storage and for re-charging one of our E - bikes. The garden was superb and a very pleasant place to enjoy the sun. Cannot recommend the place more highly.

  • "We have just had a very comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay at Stables Cottage."

After a long drive negotiating the bank holiday traffic and the M6 hold-ups, we arrived very late at night, but Leila still gave us a warm and friendly welcome. It was so good to see milk waiting in the fridge for a much needed up of tea, amongst other welcome treats. The cottage is lovely and spacious, with a mix of modern and traditional decor and the beds were super comfy. The garden was lovely to sit in in the sunshine and the area itself is very scenic and quiet. We used the cottage as a base for day trips out in the car and the information folder was full of interesting information about the area. The Co-op is very handy across the road too. Thank you Leila, we loved our mini break and definitely recommend your cottage for a home from home stay.

Thank you Melanie for your lovely comments about your stay at Stables Cottage - they are much appreciated. You were great guests and we very much look forward to welcoming you again - perhaps for a longer break. Every good wish for the future. Leila Property Owner

It was so nice to park the car and have no need for it the entire time. Lots of walks that are accessible from the cottage and the co-op was 2 minutes across the road. Mark and Leila made suggestions of local walks to us and are excellent hosts. The garden has plenty of seating and it was lovely to sit in the sun after a long walk.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. You were lovely guests - just sorry that you could not stay longer. And thank you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy. Property Owner

About the location

LANGHOLM

Lockerbie 18 miles; Carlisle 19 miles; Hawick 23 miles.

Langholm is a burgh on the River Esk in Dumfries and Galloway. From Mesolithic Man 9000 years ago, through Roman occupation to the notorious Border Reivers around the 16th century, Langholm has much history to share. The town developed around the textile industry, achieving a worldwide reputation for its woollens, expanding its population and earning the nickname of the ‘Muckle Toon’, or the Large Town. Langholm is also famous as the birthplace of Hugh MacDiarmid, the poet and Thomas Telford who was born just outside the town and after whom a road in the town is named. An unused Episcopalian church was converted into the Armstrong clan museum and was visited by astronaut Neil Armstrong in 1972 when he was made a freeman of the burgh. The town also hosts festivals for music, food and arts and the annual Common Riding draws many visitors. Within easy reach is Lockerbie, home to a good selection of bars and shopping facilities, as well as a jazz festival. A short drive from Langholm in the River Esk Valley is the Kagyu Samye Ling, the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre established in the West. As well as offering residential retreats, day visitors are welcome all year round to explore the temple or relax in the peace gardens and grounds.
