  • "On reading one of the reviews I was bit cautious about coming to the Duplex but please don’t be put off!"

The host is so helpful especially when I asked a silly question! As in no outside space for dogs, you literally walk two minutes and you are at a green space or up in the community wood! The dog walks are amazing! My car never moved the whole 5 days we were there! For the traffic we didn’t hear anything... The flat itself is very comfortable and everything you need (would suggest maybe pulling out the sofas every so often as the dog kept putting its toy under and it was rather gritty/dusty hadn’t been moved for a while and same with the cooker hood). The bathrooms are like something out of a hotel! Moffat is great, most of the pubs are dog friendly! Unfortunately during our stay alot of the pubs were closed, but can recommend the Coachman! Amazing macaroni cheese, great gin selection and so dog friendly! We absolutely loved it and would totally recommend it to anyone!

  • "This property was full of wonderful furniture, fixtures and decorations but we arrived during the hot period in August."

We had decided ahead to bring a fan just in case, and thank goodness we did. All the windows (both downstairs and bedrooms) in the property barely open so there is no air circulating and the heat hit us as soon as we arrived. We used our fan and ended up buying another one to try and stay cool (there is no outside space at this property). Other disappointments included no welcome/information pack AT ALL so no instruction leaflets, information leaflets about the area, recommendations etc. No information either about the bins so had to leave them full. There was nothing to clean with - no broom, dustpan, hoover ....... Our beds were wonderfully comfortable but the pillows and duvets and covers for them all were very poor quality (especially compared to the rest of the fittings and furnishings) and these didn't help in the heat of the night which was unbearable. It was lovely that we were able to bring our little dog with us but sadly she hurt her leg and was unable to walk which meant we couldn't even go out in the evening to get some cool air. We would love to say we'd like to return because overall, the flat was lovely and well equipped as far as expensive furniture and decorations but the window problem spoilt our stay. This flat could be perfect, it's so well located but we expected more - better bedlinen, some information, cleaning utensils and some air! for the money that we paid to stay here (£1087!).

I do not tend to give feedback to reviews however on this occasion I feel it is required as I know you were also in touch with Sykes who likewise called me. I am very sorry it was uncomfortably warm for your stay. Usually, the church is cool and having small windows and thick walls is a positive but I can understand that the lack of larger windows to open would have been annoying. It is a church and therefore the windows are what they are. I was given only a few hours notice of your booking, having received a request at 10am and having it ready for 3pm. It is a dog friendly apartment for one canine friend, but you had 2 dogs. Due to the short notice and feeling you must be struggling to get somewhere I allowed you to have both dogs. You don’t mention this in your critique ? I also give details of where to phone if you need anything. If a brush was missing that could have been provided, etc. I will look into the bedding and ascertain if this needs to be updated however. Property Owner

Lots to see and do in beautiful surroundings. Loved the property too.

  • "It’s a home away from home in many ways."

Lovely furniture, but missing some basics. No hangers in wardrobes. No mop, hoover or sweeping brush. The windows in serious need of clean. These are easy things to correct. But the noise from road in bedrooms from 4/5am in the morning is very bad. A fella would be forgiven for thinking the cars and lorries are driving through your bed room. The owner was very helpful and pointed us in direction of some fabulous restaurants. We had a great two weeks.

  • "We loved our stay at the Duplex apartment, the accommodation is lovely and was very clean."

It would have been good to be able to open the downstairs windows as we like fresh air and maybe have some instructions on how to turn the heating off as we were unable to. But overall it’s a great place to stay. The traffic outside can be a little noisy on a morning but this didn’t bother us. The village of Moffat was beautiful, everyone is so friendly and the village is a fantastic base to visit nearby places. The Black Bull is great for an evening meal, but you will need to book.

  • "The bedding smelt very musty as if dried damp!"

No peddle bin in the bathroom or bedrooms. Also a tray in the shower would have been handy to put toiletries on. Didn’t realise that the property was so close to a very busy road, was extremely noisy. However, it was a lovely apartment, fitted to a high standard and Moffat and surrounding area beautiful.

  • "Went on a 2 night break."

On morning after 1st night of stay received email explaining we should be getting ready to leave and what should be done etc. Understand reasons if 2 week break but was inappropriate and felt overbearing

  • "Very noisy in the morning with heavy farm traffic."

Accommodation would be better if double glassed. Parking was an issue and my vehicle was scratched whilst parked there. There was also a mobile garage service carrying out its services in the car park directly outside the building, EARLY, not good at all.

  • "The church conversion was very beautifully done and we loved the living/kitchen area."

All appliances were excellent and easy to use. We loved the decor, the flooring, the curtains and fabrics and it was generally very stylish and chic. All the accommodation was spotlessly clean. The bedding and towels were again excellent. There were a few things which could have made a real difference though A welcome pack. Most similarly priced self catering would provide a few essential items Extra rubbish bins. There was only the kitchen bin and I would expect at least a bathroom bin to deposit things such as dental floss Bathroom products. We only had handwash and body lotion. Shampoo and shower gel would have been appreciated Guest book. This was the only self catering establishment I have ever stayed in that did not have a guest book or info on the local area.

About the location

MOFFAT

Dumfries 21 miles

Nestling in the Annandale valley, Moffat developed in the 17th century from a village to a spa town where the sulphurous waters of the Moffat Well were held to have the power to heal and this led to an influx of visitors throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of the buildings in the town date from this period and the present Town Hall was originally developed as a Bath House. The original well can still be visited and is a 1.5 mile walk from the town into the surrounding countryside. In addition to its renown as a spa town, Moffat also grew in stature due to the wool trade and also its position as a stopping point on journeys between England and Scotland. Today the town is popular with tourists and not just because of the superb scenery affording many opportunities for great walking, cycling and fishing. Situated 50 miles from Glasgow and Edinburgh, Moffat is the ideal base for travelling to events in the cities. It has a range of attractions including the Moffat Museum, theatres, art galleries and a selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. Treat yourself to some famous Moffat Toffee and don’t miss the annual Moffat Gala in July and not forgetting the renowned Moffat Sheep Races in August!
