  • "A beautiful cottage, in the most amazing location you could wish for."

Very comfortable, clean and cosy. Well situated for exploring the area. If you want peace and tranquility, amazing views and wonderful walks and wildlife, this is the place.

  • "We enjoyed our holiday, but needed to clean the oven before cooking anything it was covered in fat and smoked badly."

This has not happend before so could be a one off .

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that you found the oven not clean. We would have asked the cleaners to return and clean the oven for you. Property Owner

  • "The cottage, it's location and grounds are lovely and some of the facilities (kitchen/diner and bathroom; except for ridiculously small sink) are good, but it is badly let down by the contents - or rather the lack of them."

No spare bedding or blankets (or cot); nothing between the sheet and the very cheap mattress through which you could feel the springs and is unhygienic; no hair-dryer; no ordnance survey/walking maps; no suitable drying area or muddy shoe/boot racks. Kitchen poorly supplied: we have never stayed in any self-catering accommodation that did not supply even a few basics - salt, pepper, cooking/olive oil, no hand-wash in the cottage and no welcome supplies. A dishwasher but no salt or rinse aid, even in the machine. The grounds should have been mown and cleared on change-over day between 10am and 5pm, not spoiling our peace on a lovely sunny Tuesday afternoon (and making my hayfever flare up!). Despite all this we enjoyed our week in Rockcliffe with its wonderful walking, but would recommend that anyone visiting should take as many provisions as they can fit in their car - assuming that you are not travelling from abroad!

Thank you for your feedback. We have altered the cleaners to the lack of dishwasher tablets which should have been left for you and that the beds should have mattress protectors. We have replaced the single mattresses and a new double mattress is on order. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful spot."

However although the place looked superficially well cleaned , there was thick dust on headboards, bedside tables and coffee tables Also I would have expected basics such as kitchen bin liners and dishcloths to be provided in a short stay property

  • "The cottage is in a stunning location close to the beach."

We found it to be very peaceful and cosy. The only negative was the standard of cleanliness. We found the kitchen in particular needs a good clean; several items in the cupboards were dirty. If mattress protectors and hand towels could be provided this would be an added benefit.

  • "The cottage was in a wonderful, relaxing position, but we felt we could have benefited from knowing where best local eateries were."

Thank you for your feedback. It is difficult to recommend local eateries as everyone's idea of ideal can be different. We would recommend googling reviews on local eating establishments and also checking opening times in case they have had to amend their opening times. Property Owner

  • "Charming little period cottage owned and recently renovated by NTS (free entry to beautiful Threave Gardens)."

Great location for Rockcliffe, nicely set back from the popular beach, with its own private parking next to the cottage. Two small bedrooms upstairs are bright and cosy. Mattresses and pillows could use covers as another reviewer pointed out six months ago. Small bathroom downstairs (steep staircase) with good shower, separate bathtub, toilet, heated towel rail and one tiny sink. Sitting room downstairs is a bit pokey. Well-equipped kitchen has more light and brand new good quality appliances. Oil-fired central heating throughout on a timer. There's an open lawn in front with partial views of coast and a small front patio with a wooden picnic table, four wooden chairs and a large parasol for those Scottish al fresco meals. There's nothing in the way of shops or tearooms in Rockcliffe, just a Mr Whippy van during the day, but there's a Londis convenience shop in nearby Colvend. A delightful 30-minute walk through NTS woods takes you to the little seaside resort of Kippford with a tearoom, pub and yachting club. A beautiful path going the other direction hugs the coast and takes you to a stunning viewpoint in half a mile and continues for another four miles to the sandy beaches of Sandyhills (a bus connects the two villages).

Many thanks for your comments about Saltflats and the area in general. We are checking with the housekeepers to find out if the protectors have been removed for laundering and not refitted. Property Owner

  • "Salt flats is a really nice property, very cosy and warm (-4 outside!"

) but toasty inside. Everything you need and good quality items but we felt that some form of coat pegs/rack is needed downstairs especially when back from a very wet dog walk! Will definitely book again.

  • "Well equipped Cottage missing almost nothing."

Felt very homely. The only thing we’d say is the bed and pillows haven’t got mattress or pillow protectors. Great next to the coast with lovely local walks. Good fenced in area for dogs. We’ll hopefully be back.

Thank you for the feedback and we will check with our housekeepers as to what has happened to the mattress protectors. Property Owner

  • "What more could you want."

Great views and wow stars at night out of the bedroom window, could touch them! Great walk to Kippford behind the cottage with its shell beaches. Ice cream at the bottom of the drive everyday. Love Dumfries and Galloway. Is a shop right at the top of the road as you turn right. We didn't see it until just before we left! Museum worth seeing at Dalbeattie with a Titanic story. Castle Douglas nice Tesco and shops. Love Kirkcudbright and the whole area. Might be good idea to put things like this into a folder. Beds the most comfortable we have ever slept in! Just one point no fire blanket or extinquisher!

Thank you for your feedback, lovely to read you made the most of your trip to the region. We have checked with the property staff and the fire blanket had been put in a drawer. We have asked for it to be left in clear view, easily accessible if needed. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic week at Saltflats Cottage in Rockliffe."

The cottage was outstanding, from ease of check in to how clean and very well equipped it is. I agree with previous comments about the overall comfort of the settee but also have to say things like that are always personal preference so what may not suit me is likely to suit someone else. Regardless we loved the cottage and hope to be back in the not to distant future. Cheers

Many thanks for your feedback, we hope to welcome you back to the NTS. Property Owner

  • "Just back from a few days rest in this lovely cottage, fantastic location, well equipped and beautiful inside."

Not a complaint but general feedback, there are no facilities to hang up wet clothes, given it's a beach location and we had a couple of wet days a clothes airer or coat rack would have been helpful. The sofa/chairs in livingroom are not comfortable for any length of time. Again most time is spent outside but if weather isn't great you tend to be inside.

Many thanks for your feedback and we have noted the comments about a clothes airer and the team will buy one for the cottage. The sofa and chairs are new and we have provided cushions in case guests want more back support etc. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay and the location was perfect for us."

Everything was spot on and house was immaculate. A few walkers mis the turn off and walk through the path of the property but really hard to find any fault with much more than that.

Thank you very much for your comments, you were our first guests at Saltflats and we hope to see you again. There are public footpaths to the side and front of the property which can be found on the location plan. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner
