  • "We loved the Coach House and had a great week’s stay."

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we required. Everything was spotlessly clean and to a very high standard. The cottage setting was very pretty and the garden and surrounding area was lovely and secluded. The owners, had also very kindly, left some welcome food and drink for their visitors. We would certainly love to return as Newton Stewart was a great area to have as a base.

  • "Despite the photograph of the cottage it was not a secluded cottage in a private garden but attached to a bigger house belonging to the owners."

The rooms were both extremely dark with very little day light getting into the building, we had to have the lights on all the time and it still was difficult to read. The sofa and chair were very uncomfortable and the only eating space was the breakfast bar which is not suitable for a relaxing evening meal. The stairs are extremely steep and require a second hand rail on the right hand side to provide a safer journey up and down. There was no wardrobe in which to hang clothes; only a few pegs at the top of the stairs outside the bedroom door. No doubt the owners thought the cottage quirky but it could have been so much nicer if it had been designed by someone with experienced. Considering the size and inadequate furnishings, the dingy interior and the odd collection of aging vehicles parked in the grounds I consider this property to be very over priced and definitely not worth the money you charged for it. Yours somewhat disappointed Norma C M Adam

COACH HOUSE – OWNER RESPONSE TO UNFAIR FEEDBACK. Mrs Adam, We are sorry that you had such wet and miserable weather for your stay , that you did not realise that the Coach House is attached to our main house, and that your stay was not as expected. The Coach House was professionally cleaned as it is before all guests, and we pride ourselves on our high standard of cleanliness which has been praised by all previous guests, so we fail to understand why you marked us at only 25% for this. We endeavour to make the Coach House as homely and welcoming as possible. The Coach House has a designated and secluded orchard garden which allows complete privacy from the main house, and being a Victorian traditional cottage, it does have a steep staircase. However, we have taken on board your concern in this regard and have updated the listing to draw attention to this. We make every effort to ensure that guests have a full understanding of the cottage and its facilities, and we provide many photographs on the listing, which clearly show furnishings and that the cottage is not at all ‘dinghy’. We were surprised and upset to receive such an unexpectedly critical review, as to date all of our reviews have been exceptionally positive. Sincerely, Alex and Tracy Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property, tucked away down a short lane on the ouskirts of Newton Stewart."

Very comfortable and well stocked. The welcome pack just kept on giving, like a treasure hunt! My only problem was that the stairs were steeper than expected and my knees didn't like them too much. Also I had trouble getting to sleep because of noises in the roof and the creeper growing on the outside of the bedroom wall. Newton Stewart is well provided for with food shops and cafés. We had a great time.

On entering we found a very nice welcome pack, comforting after our five hour car journey. We settled in before heading to the Crown Hotel for dinner. A wonderful night’s sleep in a most comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, something we haven’t always had at other stays. Nice easy to use walk in shower set us up every morning for the day ahead. The well appointed kitchen are had everything we needed. The location was great for visiting the area and we had some great days out. Favourite trip was to the Mull of Galloway and Logan Gardens. We did take a long day out to visit the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Well worth the miles. Overall a fabulous week helped by the excellent weather.

We found the property very clean & had everything we needed for our weeks stay. The underfloor heating in the kitchen area & upstairs bathroom meant we didn't use the logburner, even in this cold spell. The welcome pack was a great touch, thank you. Should you need it the WiFi is good & there is access to smart TV & login to Netflix. We were on a walking holiday so the stand alone bath & large shower was a big plus.

It is the most relaxing, beautiful place to stay. It’s warm, spotless and has everything you need for a lovely holiday. Plenty of walks on the doorstep as well as all the shops you need for a self catering break. The bed was so comfortable, we slept in late most days & the bathroom is a joy with a huge tub and great walk in shower, my personal favourite spot was the window seat in the bedroom for peaceful reading. Lovely welcome gifts were left including fresh flowers which was a lovely welcoming touch. We are already planning a return visit for next year!

Excellent centre for exploring Galloway. Very steep stairs with handrail on left side going up only. We suspect many guests may not be in the first flush of youth, so a handrail on the opposite side would be a boon and could prevent a fall.
