"Fabulous large house for a family or group celebration."
Plenty of facilities to keep our group of 9 adults and 5 children entertained all weekend and the novelty of the secret slide did not wear off! The hot tub, and games table were great. Well equipped kitchen to cater for large groups and a huge dining table that could seat us all. Miranda was very responsive and informative when I contacted her with questions prior to our stay. Additional touches included a lovely welcome basket for our arrival and a beautiful Christmas tree in the grand living room as well as providing robes in each bedroom and additional towels for the hot tub. My only disappointment was not being able to stay longer. I would certainly recommend and would love to return should there be a suitable group occasion in the future.

"The house was beautiful except it is now looking very tired and needs some critical tlc."
This is a list of things that needs sorting. For a property that sets out to be at the middle to top end this level of faults is unacceptable. I would welcome the owners feedback and maybe an offer of compensation would be appropriate. Two spots in lounge by window not working Main kitchen lights didn’t work making cooking difficult Mould in Conker room Heaters in the conservatory (3 out 4 were fixed by electrician whilst we were there) Main bathroom toilet seat is wobbly Theatre room is damp very stale smelling, water in middle of floor. This room was unusable Table tennis nets are broken (supports) Cookerhood not working resulting in smoke alarms being activated and needing an electrician to come and reset. Smoke alarms are battery operated, seems pretty poor as they can fail at any time. Mould in main bathroom on wall Sofa in bedroom blocked up and wobbly Sofa in lounge sinking one end. Courtyard drain was blocked and over flows when raining and when washing machine used Google networks don’t connect correctly. Blinds broken in lounge alcove Knives are blunt. Conservatory door not very secure Blinds in bedroom broken, slacks broken in sofa bed. Wardrobe doors sticking Low water pressure. Hand held shower in en-suite not working properly. Extractor fan in en-suite squeals One light bulb in en-suite not working and exposed Light on wall flashes on or off. Conservatory roof leaks flooding the floor making use of pool table impossible in rain Blocked drain from roof Gutters blocked.wrong hot tub lid Dish washer dispenser broken. Whole house smelt of damp. Probably biggest list of faults in any property we have stayed in. I shall await your feedback. Chris

"This is a wonderful property - versatile for sleeping arrangements, spacious and well-equipped."
We had a mixture of generations and it was perfect house for our family celebration. There was plenty to keep everyone entertained and would have happily stayed longer.

"Fantastic stay at Chestnuts."
So many family activities catered for. The welcome basket was a lovely touch too. Big sized rooms and everything you could possibly need for a fun weekend
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful home."
We had a wonderful time and the house was as advertised and very close to local amenities. This was made all the better with very comfortable beds and lovely bedding which created an enjoyable and relaxing sleep.

"We spent a fabulous weekend at the Chestnuts."
The house was amazing with plenty of space for all of us. The garden was an added bonus with hot tub for the adults, trampoline for the kids and bbq for the whole family. Would highly recommend this house and would love to go again.

"13 of us stayed for my dad's 80th birthday celebration and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay!"
I read a couple of bad reviews about cleanliness and facilities not being 100% which concerned me. I contacted Miranda who is the housekeeper who promptly called me to put any doubts to rest. When we arrived the house was beautiful and absolutely spotless. The facilities were in constant use all weekend (apart from air hockey as we could not find the lead). The hot tub was a God send as weather was great. My nephew enjoyed the trampoline, we all enjoyed the pool table and everyone seemed to gather in the large but homely kitchen. BBQ was great Saturday and the fantastically equipped kitchen cupboards came in handy when cooking a roast on Sunday (couldn't find a can opener but bought one at local shop and gifted to the otherwise well equipped cutlery drawer

"This was a lovely clean, comfortable and quirky place for a three-generation family weekend."
The children loved the trampoline and the secret slide to the basement den (which is now sorted and recarpeted after recent damp issues). The play wall and gym equipment in the garage also had good use. Furnishings and fittings in the house are generally of high quality, with plenty of kitchen and dining kit, and 'The Traitors' round table in the dining hall was lovely for evening meals. The extra fridge and dishwasher were extremely useful, and we found ample storage for groceries etc. There are additional facilities not mentioned in the property description, including a decent-sized barbecue, a washing machine and tumble dryer, a coffee machine, and additional towels for the hot tub. We also enjoyed the vintage gramaphone! We didn't get the sitting room TV or the basement projector working, but there is a small TV in the kitchen and we didn't miss the other screen options. As the house is over 100 years old, some niggles are probably inevitable. The shower water pressure is low, there are a couple of small patches of damp on walls or window frames, and a couple of loose finials on sofa arms, but none of these spoilt our enjoyment. The garden is nicely maintained, and we abandoned planned outings on one day because everyone was so happy to stay at the house and enjoy the facilities. The property manager was very helpful responding to preliminary enquiries.

"You failed to offer us an alternative weekend so we would never recommend you to anyone"

"We had the loveliest time while we was away, and made some amazing memories, we could definitely come back again."
There were a few things broken or not cleaned properly when we got there but none of this stopped us enjoying ourselves. The only reason I am telling you this is so it can be even better then it already is. The carpet was coming adrift on stairs There was Red wine stain under sofa in living room near mirror Toilet chain loose in bedroom on suite which only has a shower and toilet There was no TV signal in living room Large water mark on puffy in living room The toaster only 1 side works properly The filters in dishwasher hasn't being cleaned There was no chemicals in hottub so by Saturday evening it wasn't very pleasant to use. Amazing things that stood out to us: The robes on the beds The comfort of the beds and pillows All the essentials that was in the kitchen (bin bags, washing up liquid ect) The facilities in the games room The slide was a winner The extra fridge was a massive help We are already talking about booking again for next year, thanks again and we hope that we left everything in the best possible way we could.

"The property was very clean in the bedrooms and bathrooms and was lovely and appealing when we first arrived."
The kitchen cupboards are ALL full of appliances or plates etc which leaves no room for food apart from one skinny cupboard, all of our food was left out on benches. I think the cleaners should check the cupboards to see if last tenants have put away clean dishes, we used the pans for the hob but they we still DIRTY off previous tenants which is not ideal. There was Mushrooms growing down in the cinema room- which smoked when touched!! Sooo dangerous with dogs and children in the property, also floor had no carpet so when the underlay moved the carpet grippers were on show, again dangerous with the children. Tv in the sitting room, we couldn’t get it to work, if we did get it to work we all couldn’t sit on the sofa’s and watch it cause of the positioning of the TV. Games in the sitting room not well stocked, same as games in the rest of the property, no hockey puck for hockey, not enough counters for connect 4, garage had bags of outdoor games, football one empty, tennis one empty etc, trampoline needs to be more safe, the cover is coming off which one child got their foot stuck in the springs around it, again dangerous! Showers were not working at all, hardly no pressure to shower which means very little water coming out, some showers weren’t even getting hot or working at all, this has previously been mentioned in the visitors book but still not sorted ? The courtyard wasn’t usable, must be a blocked pipe from the sink and/or washing machine which has left black sludge over spill - very slippery and foul smell. We made the most of our weekend and it was well needed to spend time with family from down south, we took toys/games with us to keep us entertained and enjoyed the pool table and hot tub most, we took a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, not ideal for packing lightly, but it is needed at this property if you have kids with you as the facilities I don’t think are kept update as much as needed. Property very clean on first glance, again think the cleaners should check BBQ etc we checked and it wasn’t cleaned for god knows how long as well as the tongs left for use of the BBQ. Very large and spacious and for all the and the family, I would recommend staying here but to take your own activities, pool table trampoline and slide wasn’t enough to keep our kids entertained for 3 full days. Loved the bathrobes for hot tub and I say very clean on first glance, very large property and the slide is a bonus - even the adults enjoyed it. Thanks for the over nights stay, well needed to spend time with family.

"There were two problems that weren't huge but: The house was cold when we arrived and didn't warm up all evening."
We all ended up sitting in the kitchen with the wood burning stove. Also the water pressure was generally very low which made showers unappealing. Otherwise it was a lovely property.

"Amazing weekend at this beautiful house!"
There were 14 of us celebrating a birthday and lots of fun was had. Very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Only negative was the showers weren’t very good at all, very weak and hard to control the temperature! House a little dated and tired but very pleasant all the same. The basement had a damp issue before we arrived but the management called us and told us, it was a shame as there was tarpaulin down and we wasn’t really able to use it and no compensation for this was offered. However we still made the most of the slide! Overall a lovely stay at The Chestnuts!
-
"We had an amazing time at The Chestnuts this Christmas."
The house was warm and welcoming, dressed for Christmas. The children aged between 2 -13 had plenty to occupy themselves, the slide and trampoline were a great hit! The hot tub was fantastic! There was so much room, the beds were comfortable and the house was well equipped- we really couldn’t ask for more!
-
"We had an amazing weekend celebrating my husband’s 30th birthday."
We arrived to a beautiful hamper filled with lovely goodies. The house was clean and had everything we could have possibly wanted. The photos online do not do the house justice! It’s beautiful.
-
"The house was beautiful and had so much to keep everyone occupied."
The house manager spoilt us with gifts for our main guest who she knew was very poorly terminally and couldn’t do enough to make sure our stay was perfect. Perfect weekend in a perfect house! Would love to go back!
-
"House was great for our group of friends and the dining area was fantastic for a dinner party."
House is large and the bedrooms have plenty of room with comfy beds. Overall a great stay and the only thing we’d have said at the time was we could have used more cleaning products, toilet rolls etc as we had to buy more. Since our stay we had a claim for £500 to replace the hot tub lid which was quite obviously broken when we arrived. I explained this but the claim was continued against us. Since then we’ve sent the photo and video evidence of the lid on our arrival which we luckily had. Overall great house for a large group but any damage you notice on arrival ensure you send to Sykes.

"A wonderful house for a family gathering."
We had fun with the slide, games table, hot tub and trampoline. Super dining room with very large dining table and comfortable lounge. Spacious bedrooms , very comfortable beds and lovely bed linen, towels and robes. A stair gate was requested but there wasn’t one. Only one of the two dishwashers worked and the hot water system failed. However Miranda the house keeper was very helpful and arranged for a plumber to attend and he sorted the hot water for us. The plumber noted that the airing cupboard had an immersion heater with dangerous exposed wiring connections and he disconnected it. We had a very enjoyable weekend.
-
"We had an awesome long weekend."
There were 15 of us with ages ranging from 5-70 and everyone had a really great time. There was loads for us all to do.
-
"10/10 would recommend staying here."
The house is absolutely beautiful. Everything is lovely and clean. Fluffy towels and dressing gowns provided (and smelt amazing). Host was very accommodating and went the extra mile to get the house ready for us early. All the beds were really comfortable. Garden, hot tub and trampoline, all great. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much!
-
"The house is incredible."
Huge amount of space with a massive round dining table and wonderful rooms. My only gripes were that the water pressure was awful and the fire alarm wouldn’t stop beeping for the duration of our stay. The property manager did offer for someone to take a look at it to fix it however. Great place to stay as a big group.
-
"Great house for large group, lounge and dining room really spacious."
However the shower pressure was really poor especially in one of the en-suites also the front door locking system was difficult to manage. Despite this we had a great time and would recommend for large groups
-
"We had an amazing stay, so many lovely facilities and little extras, kids loved the slide and the trampoline, games room was great."
Enough space for our group of 7 adults, 7 kids and 2 dogs!
-
"We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend to anyone but there were two things that could have been improved on a little."
The temperature was a slight issue as although the thermostat was at a set temperature, the downstairs toilet was absolutely roasting but other rooms were cold so we couldn't get 1 temperature all through the house. The other was the oven. I'm aware that it's difficult using other appliances when you stay at a property however even after reading the instructions in the manual, we couldn't get it to work. It was only because one of us had that oven at home that we could cook anything. I think it would be really good to have slightly more in depth instructions or have someone explain it to you upon check in? The above did not dictate our stay though and we had a fabulous time at a fantastic house.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for letting us know about the heating. We just installed a new thermostat system which clearly needs adjusting! I will get on and write some clearer oven instructions too. Property Owner

"BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, WE SPENT A WONDERFUL WEEK"

"Beautiful property and great weekend"
-
"The Chestnuts was a wonderful house for all the family, adults and teenagers loved it."
Good sized rooms for us all to have space, very comfy beds. Having two dishwashers helped enormously! Kitchen very well equipped, we had such a superb time. A stunning house with so much to see and do in the area.
-
"We had the absolute best time at The Chestnuts!"
The rooms were very comfortable (towels and ROBES provided
-
"The property is beautiful all the extras really make it a winner."
There is a slide, outside trampoline, bbq, hot tub, gym enough to keep anyone entertained. The rooms are all really big with multiple en-suites throughout the property. Dressing gowns in each room is a winner. The dinning Room has a huge table to fit everyone for an afternoon tea or dinner which makes it special. A few other points when we arrived there was old laundry left in one of the rooms. Some of the bathroom and sinks didn’t look like they had been cleaned with dust all in them still. Wasn’t the end of the world we weren’t that bothered but just something that can be considered. We were very happy on the whole. Our only negative was that the location of the house is situated on a road in between two houses. We found this a problem as soon as we arrived the neighbours were out in the street questioning what we were going to be doing at the house which we found strange and a bit intimidating. We then received a noise complaint at 9:30pm. It feels like the neighbours are not happy with the house being there and will complain with any noise even when a silent disco is happening.

"We had a wonderful stay over the Easter weekend."
There was something to do for everyone. We were 3 generations all of whom had plenty to do. The owners had obviously put a lot of thought into what entertainment guests would enjoy. However, it was disappointing that the pool & hockey table were broken. There was also a smashed window in the conservatory, low down which we had not been warned about. Perhaps this should have also been taped up. The dining room table was very special. We were all able to sit round comfortably and enjoy our meals. Beds very comfortable. Showers, had better. Perhaps the roses need a clean? We would certainly go again and recommend to others. Thank you - lots of happy memories created. P.S. It would be useful to have a list of what might be needed. e.g. Extra bin bags, dishwasher tablets. etc.
-
"We had such an amazing time over the weekend in this cottage, it was perfect for our group of 14 super clean on arrival, the rooms were super cosy and the hot tub was amazing."
The amount of facilities in this house is amazing and the added bonus of the slide just topped it off. We would 100% recommend to anyone staying here of all different ages or occasions it was an amazing time.
-
"Our stay at the chestnuts was brilliant from start to finish."
The house is amazing, the beds were so comfortable.. The only one downside was the pressure in the showers were not very good but that does not effect my rating. The games room was used alot along with the slide down to the basement! I would definitely book this again. Peterborough Town centre is nice, we took a trip into the shopping centre and there was plenty there with plenty of places to eat. It was about a 10 minute drive away

"Such a beautiful house."
Full of character and beautifully furnished and equipped. It was my husbands 70th birthday celebration with our daughters and their families and so was important to have something for everyone and you certainly delivered. The grandchildren loved the slide (what a brilliant idea) and the adults made use of the hot tub and table tennis. Then evenings in the cinema room or playing board games in the lounge. Shame the pool and hockey table was broken as we had planned a family tournament. But it didn’t distract from having a lovely family holiday.

"We stayed here for a week for a family get together."
The house had a lovely atmosphere with great quirky features. All the bedrooms were beautifully decorated and large with very comfy beds. Even though there was twelve of us staying ranging in age from 9 weeks to 65 it never felt crowded and you could always find a quiet nook to relax if you wanted. We had great fun and the hot tub and games table were used everyday. The fixtures were a little tired but given the age of the house this is to be expected. Although the water was extremely hot the water pressure to the showers is very poor. We stayed here with three children age 5,6 and 10 and they loved the slide to the basement. They never complained of being bored once during the stay! The weather was a little inclement most days but it gave us an excuse to stay in and enjoy the house and light the log fire in the kitchen and have lots of chats and giggles round the table. We did explore the area and visited a number of places. The highlight for the children (and my daughters) was a trip to Harry Potter world which was about an hours drive away. We had the benefit of cars during our stay so did not use public transport so cannot comment on this. The house is in a residential area close to a main road. The garden is not overly big and is overlooked but there is a hot tub and large trampoline for the children. The gym in the garage was used daily by members of the family although I am ashamed to say not by me! Should we wish to stay in the area in the future I would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you to Miranda for answering my queries before we arrived and for the lovely welcome pack on arrival. We did not meet the owners or a representative during our stay but could call them in the event if an emergency. The key collection was very easy.

"Really enjoyed our stay."
No real issues.

"A beautiful property."
We had everything we could possibly need. Comfy beds and the dressing gowns were a lovely touch. Loved the slide. Would definitely recommend
-
"Such an exceptional stay at The Chestnuts."
The house was beautiful and umbelievably well stocked! The rooms were luxurious and comfortable and the hot tub and slide were a wonderful touch. Thank you, can't wait to stay again next year!
-
"Excellent, definitely has the wow factor, we all loved it and the house feels very comfortable, loved the cinema room , the young ones thought the slide was brilliant, and the hot tub was so relaxing, would love to go again."
-
"Great house, very comfortable and warm, quality furnishings and decor, the hidden slide was fun."
A few additions would benefit future guests, ie another kettle, more mugs, better water pressure, outside lights above hot tub, board games and playing cards, a working tv in lounge. Beautiful house and gardens, stunning dining table
-
"A lovely week's stay with a house full of family in a beautiful historical house, highly recommend"
-
"The house is absolutely fantastic."
We loved everything about it. The beds are the comfiest I’ve ever slept in and there were sweet touches like leaving a bathrobe for each guest on the bed. Highly recommend!
-
"The Chestnuts is an absolutely beautiful property, incredibly well equipped by very thoughtful owners."
The welcome basket was a lovely touch. All fixtures, fittings and equipment were of the highest quality, not your usual IKEA crockery. We especially loved the hot tub, slide and games table. Bedrooms and bathrooms were all beautiful. The only thing missing was a fan as we went on a hot weekend and the bedrooms were extremely stuffy at night (we bought some from B&M in the centre in the end). We weren’t fans of Peterborough itself (though the Chalkboard cafe is lovely) but would definitely return to the Chestnuts if we were looking for another house-based break. Thank you to Clare and family for letting us stay in their beautiful home!
-
"A spacious home with lots of beautiful features."
A real home from home with every kitchen item you can wish for. Two fridges and a freezer made it great to store food and cool drinks. I felt the owners were very generous with leaving kindling and wood for the woodburner, other places I have been I have had to buy these. The gym, games table and hot tub were a great addition. The hot tub was always ready for use. Secure garden meant we didn't have to worry about the dogs getting out. Great quality furnishings, comfy beds and pillows, quality towels and robes, plenty of storage. We walked into Peterborough and visited a couple of beauty spots within 25mins drive but mostly we enjoyed this lovely home and soaked up the history of the Arts and Crafts period. This was a winter break with our family but would love to return at any time of the year.
-
"We had a fantastic family holiday at The Chestnuts."
The house had fantastic character and lots of facilities to keep our mixed family group entertained all week with trampoline, gym, pool/air hockey/table tennis, hot tub and a cinema room. The owners thoughtfully provided the basics we needed for arrival to make a cuppa after a long journey and much more. They have put lots of thought and care into providing everything needed for a comfortable & relaxing holiday and were on hand with quick responses to any queries we had during our stay. Highly recommended.
-
"It’s was lovely to be the first visitors to this property and what an amazing property it was."
Great for a large family celebration like we had. The selling point for us was the downstairs disabled room and bathroom. Everything was very clean and tidy, and the owners contacted us and couldn’t do enough, answering any questions we had immediately. Thank you Clare and Bryan an amazing house, happy to go back again one day too,
