  • "Everything was pretty good but kitchen cupboards particularly the pan drawers ..."

Everything was pretty good but kitchen cupboards particularly the pan drawers were unclean and that put us off eating there

Thank you for your feedback. Apologies on the kitchen cupboards, I have raised with our property manager to investigate. Sam is available at any time and would have happily come out and rectified this for you but appreciate the inconvenience. I therefore understand the rating reduction on the cleanliness (75%) but you have also reduced every other category (two of these to 25%!). I am not aware of any other issues and in fact you suggest everything was pretty good. Once again, apologies on the cupboard cleanliness but can't help but feel the other grading is unjustified. So well equipped especially the kitchen. Lovely to have everyone in the family able to cook and eat together. So much space throughout the whole property. I would just mention that lots more coathangers would make it beyond perfect. I couldn't get your new app to work but not a problem We had great visits to beautiful Ely and to Wicken Fen and wish we'd had more than four nights. As two of our party live in Cambridge the swift train ride to Ely was a bonus.

So lovely to hear Margaret, thank you very much . Really glad you enjoyed the home and the surrounding area. Take care and hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "An interesting, well equipped, old house in a picturesque village, but within very easy reach of Ely."

The modern kitchen extension was lovely, although the low ceilings in the older part of the house might be a problem for anyone over 6 feet tall! The beds were extremely comfy, but the bedding, though clean, could have done with ironing. Some hooks for towels in the en-suite to the second bedroom would be useful (in place of the wire rhino?!) Also, more cushions for the outside furniture might be a good idea. However, these are all minor points, and in no way spoiled our holiday. In fact, if we were to visit the area again, I would certainly rebook The Old Red Lion.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback. I will certainly note the ironing with our property manager, I will also add a general note on some low ceilings! Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Property Owner

Couldn't have asked for anything more (except better weather...). An excellent base for many local walks and equally well-sited for a short drive to historic Ely. Plenty of wildlife about. Nice to open the front door and be greeted by one of the numerous pheasants just nonchalantly pecking away at the grass nearby. Would I return? Definitely!

Great to hear you enjoyed the cottage, its location and the surrounding area! Really appreciate the positive feedback, thank you, look forward to seeing you again! Property Owner

The beds are Comfortable and the rooms sizes were good for 8 adults. The hot tube was great and very clean and hot for when we arrived. The lay out of the property was lovely with a snug and lounge with tv and then a kitchen with a table to chat whilst cooking. We loved our stay and would recommend the property to all. It was location was great Cambridge was 20 minutes away and Ely 5 minutes away. Some good national trust places to visit. In Ely there is a great restaurant called Urban Fresh which we had dinner at twice. This was a great holiday and we would return as it was lovely. Thank you

Good lounge and utility area. Snug used as quiet area by people working. All bedrooms and en-suite facilities high standard and very comfortable. Wi-Fi connection excellent. Ely and Cambridge very accessible. Would be very happy to return.

  • "We were very disappointed with the condition and cleanness of the cottage it is dull and dim in both sitting rooms the furniture is so uncomfortable not a comfy chair to sit in, the garden furniture was as bad old uncomfortable and cushions filthy with one having the zip bust."

The kitchen was reasonable the bedrooms were not too bad but some of the bedding did'nt look as if it had been changed and my husband had to clean two of the shower drains of disgusting long black hair as water was not draining, skirting boards needed cleaning, and the picture of The Old Red Lion is not accurate for parking there is only room for one car. the price of the hot tub was a waste of time the water was green ?????? .

Thank you for your feedback, really sorry to hear your issues, if contacted, our property manager would have been able to assist, available any time. We also have a maintenance chap who lives very close by who can also attend if required. The lounge space and snug are the oldest part of the house lit by the ceiling lights (plus table lamps) but the lounge space is open plan and adjacent to the dining room which is the new part of the house and very well lit! I have never considered the house as dull and dim! The photos represent the lighting very well. Sorry the sofa was not to your taste, all cushions have had there interiors replaced and the sofa is then complimented by a single chair, bean bags, the snug seating etc. Apologies on the skirting boards and two shower drains, I have raised with our cleaners who do their upmost to present a thoroughly clean home. Two small cars can be parked on the drive but there is absolutely no issue parking at the front of the property where there is ample parking. We will of course remedy any issues from the above but quite upset that you feel 25/100 is a fair representation of your stay. Property Owner

  • "I’d like to start by saying the property was wonderful!"

There were 7 of us and there was plenty of room, it never felt crowded! My favorite was sitting outside & listening to the birds. Very peaceful. There was ample seating for dinner and two living spaces: we designated one for kids and one for grownups- it was fantastic. The decor was adorable! And the bathrooms were phenomenal! An absolutely great space overall. Couple of recommendations for improvement would be: the nespresso machine was missing the drip tray, one of the lights in the dining area constantly flickered, the freezer door was not attached to the cabinet, clear instructions on the washing machine would have been nice and finally some floor fans for the bed rooms were needed. We went out and bought our own because the upstairs was too hot to sleep. Would 100% stay here again!

Thank you for your lovely comments and appreciate the recommendations. Will certainly relocate the drip tray and reattach the freezer door, apologies. We have certainly had some hot weather making it uncomfortable at night! Thanks again, glad you enjoyed your break and look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

Due to seating and crockery. Oven hob was a nightmare, settee was not comfortable. It was a little dark around the hot tub.The toilet in our bedroom wouldn't flush no water left in cistern. I have given this feedback as just a few improvements, would make it a brilliant holiday home . Just to say we did have a lovely time. The location was great for dog walking and nice local pubs.

Many thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoyed your stay and the area, Wentworth is a delightful village and indeed very convenient for Ely and Cambridge. We love the house! We are a little puzzled at the comment on seating and crockery (and the respective feedback scores); as the pictures show, we have a dining table with seating for 8, a breakfast table with seating for 8, a snug with sofa and other sating options, a lounge with sofa as shown and a couple of other options. We will add an additional couple of chairs to provide further options for guests but the pictures and listing are accurate. I have also rechecked the inventory on crockery and there are 15 plates (1 was recently broken), 14 side plates, 20 mugs, 10 wine glasses, 14 champagne flutes, 12 bowls + 8 pasta bowls, 19 glasses of various sizes and generally 16 forks/knives etc. We will add a few more side plates. We also recently added more serve ware, cafetière, whisk etc. to really ensure all equipment was provided. We also recently added the king bed (2 singles if required) enhancing the fourth bedroom. We feel the house is great for 8 with separate areas / tv's if desired. Hope you enjoyed the hamper! The hob can be a little sensitive, we tested it on our stay and got used to it very quickly but we will replace this as well. You hopefully benefitted from the new oven and the new microwave in the utility. Our property manager would have come out to resolve the toilet flush but do not believe it was raised as an issue during your stay, any maintenance issues are dealt with as quickly as possible. We are sorry you felt the sofa was not comfortable, we are going to replenish the filling to improve this aspect. We are constantly reviewing our guests comments as we want everyone to enjoy their stay and we are glad overall you enjoyed your holiday and the area. Property Owner

  • "The cottage accommodation and layout suited our requirements perfectly."

It was spacious with a good sized garden. However there were a few issues. One of the en suite bathrooms necessitated that bedrooms occupants be very friendly indeed as there was no door and the toilet was directly visible to anyone in/sitting on the bed. The sofa in the lounge was very low and proved uncomfortable and difficult for the two 70+ year olds in the party to get out of a seated position. Although instructions were provided for the use of the hob, ovens and washer/dryer they were the manufacturer’s leaflets and rather poor - we never did manage to crack the proper use of the microwave. We would have liked instructions of some sort regarding use of the hot tub - the water turned cloudy and yellow 2 days into our stay and we were unsure as to what we should do. However we got in touch with the caretaker who quickly sent someone to check out and deal with the problem. Steve the owner showed concern when he heard that we had problems with the WiFi on day2 but the problem was an area situation with Open Reach in attendance - we did appreciate his concern.

Many thanks for your comments, hope you enjoyed your stay overall. There should be simpler instructions in the house book provided but also understand they seem to be tricky to use. We are replacing the oven to make easier and adding a simple microwave as soon as we can, apologies for any difficulty you encountered. Glad the caretaker assisted with the hot tub. Hope overall you enjoyed the area and property. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time."

The house is warm and comfortable. However, the hob and both ovens are nearly impossible to operate. The hob just requires a bit of dogged patience; but the ovens are mind-bendingly difficult, which severy impacted our ability to cook meals as planned. We diod follow the instructions in the manual but the actual circular selector (particularly on the main oven) does not work properly. You just have to bite the bullet and replace all 3 devices with one with more conventional controls. One more minor gripe was the lack of a dishcloth - of course we were able to pop out to get one but a pack of J-cloths or similar would have been helpful.

Thank you for the feedback, a shame on the ovens / hob as were newly installed not too long ago but it does seem they are proving tricky, thank you for being patient with the operation! We will certainly look to replace I think when possible, apologies on the dish cloth, certainly something that should have been left for you. Hope you enjoyed your stay and the area though. • "We had a really lovely stay and the house has so much potential!"

However, there are several things which would have improved our stay and which should be taken into consideration for future guests: - having read concerns about the cleanliness of the hot tub, we were advised it would be emptied and cleaned which it was. However, after one use, there was green slime on the sides of the tub and the water was yellowing - there were reports of a dipped bed in the middle. This had not been tended to and my dad found the bed hadn’t been put together properly and this was actually a very quick fix after a couple of uncomfortable nights which could have been avoided - lovely that games were provided however none were playable as most pieces missing - when using the hoover to neaten the place up we found wet muck inside the hoover which smelt vulgar and had to be cleaned by us in order for the hoover to be used - the oven temperature controls only worked intermittently - the front door lock had a bit of wood inside that had to be regularly moved out of the way so you could get the key in - No coasters for cups/glasses. - Saucepans (except for blue iron pots) worked intermittently on the induction hob. - Window in front bedroom was jammed and couldn't be closed (this was mentioned in the handbook but unclear how long it has been like this for). - sinks were very slow to drain and bathrooms smelt damp (there was a dehumidifier blasting out in the lounge on arrival). Pipe dripping from sink in en suite - Netflix etc provided on tv but no signal for live tv This is a lovely property and fortunately these things were only a mild hindrance on our stay, however all of these should have been sorted for the price charged, particularly when they had been raised in the feedback of others.

Thanks very much for your feedback and really hope you did manage to have an enjoyable stay. Our apologies on the issues raised, we will review...the dehumidifier was there as we had suffered a leak in the en-suite which we were trying to deal with in the short time available between guests, our apologies (I think a note was left to explain). Thank you on the bed, I understood it was the mattress previously which was new but thank you for fixing! I have added new coasters and pans to supplement the others. And apologies on the hot tub, I think the property manager found the filter out which may have contributed to the issue, we certainly try and encourage all of our guests to ring the number in the house book for maintenance issues as we will attend very speedily to sort! Hopefully, overall you enjoyed your stay and the area and we will see you again. Property Owner

Also something needs to be done about the gravel path to the hot tub as u cnt walk over that in bear feet. One more thing the previous tenants before us had left dog muck near the hot tub which smelt bad, we don't want to be blamed for it as we pick alfies pooh up at all times, Thnku

Many thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoyed your stay. We are looking into providing a better surface from the hot tub to door as appreciate without sliders or similar, gravel is not ideal. • "We stayed here for a week with our 4 kids from age 13 - newborn, my mother in law and our dogs."

This house suited all of us perfectly, our middle kids enjoyed the snug room, our eldest had a TV in his room, the adults enjoyed the patio and kitchen. We all spent time in the huge hot tub, particularly the kids! We played boardgames around the large dining table and watched movies on the living room sofa. Upstairs is so cosy and the beds were so comfy, I am going to buy the same duvets as these (one of the single beds is only suitable for a child, I would say no older than 5 years old as the mattress isn't suitable for any older). The full length mirrors in the double rooms were really handy and the TV in the chimney breast room was appreciated by our eldest at night and early morning. The garden was brilliant for the dogs and the utility room useful for keeping their beds in, the downstairs toilet was useful for the kids in and out of the hot tub and for my mother in law as she can struggle using the stairs too much. There were only a couple of things that could do with adressing but it didn't affect our holiday at all. Maybe provide hand wash in the bathrooms and kitchen, we just went and bought some so not an issue. More tea towels would have been useful, again not a problem. Salt and pepper would have been a bonus, other places we have stayed have always provided these along with other herbs and spices. I think it would be beneficial to lay a strip of artificial grass from the hot tub to the back door as its quite dusty and muddy around the paving, we had to wash our kids feet when they didn't remember to put their sliders on before or after getting in - which was often. The kettle was full of limescale, we tried to clean it but couldn't get it clean, we just bought one for our stay. Ensure the hot tub is deep cleaned and serviced, my husband drained it, refilled it and added appropriate chemicals as the water had a green tinge to it and a thick layer of scum appeared when using the jets. It was much better after a refill and filter clean. The area is a beautiful little village with lovely residents, there is a lovely walk just down the lane to the farmers fields and a nice walk up the lane towards the church. There's a little park too which the kids enjoyed and we all had a game of football too. There's lots to do nearby and places to eat or get a takeaway, Ely is 10 minutes away and is absolutely stunning! We had an amazing time and are hoping to book to come back again. A week just isn't long enough, thank you for having us we really enjoyed our stay.

  • "The cottage was a beautiful house and furnished in a modern, contemporary style."

I cannot fault the bedrooms or bathrooms at all. Hot-tub was wonderful! However, there are a few areas that prevent this cottage from being a five star rating: Sofa in lounge area cannot accommodate 8 people. The cottage needs a deep clean, lots of cobwebs, spiders and general dirt in cupboards etc. Not enough lounge seating in the garden for 8 people. The garden was very unkempt, could have done with the lawn being mowed and weeds removed. This spoilt the overall impression of the cottage as it looked as if no one cared. It would have been nice if the cottage included a DVD player and BBQ, these have been in all other cottages we have stayed in. A fridge in the utility area would have been useful - it was impossible to keep all food and drink for 8 people in the one fridge in the kitchen area.

Thank you for your comments and our apologies certain aspects were not 100%, we will certainly review these. We will also look at adding the additional items you mention. We do hope though that you enjoyed your stay and hopefully can welcome you back. Property Owner

There wasn’t one item we needed that we couldn’t find. It is decorated well and is very comfortable. With a cloak room downstairs and 3 bathrooms upstairs was very helpful for those less mobile. It was also good to have different rooms downstairs which gave plenty of space for people to spread out. The fitted kitchen needs a little TLC as some of it is no longer fitting and the mattress in the main bedroom opposite the stairs needs replacing as it is impossible not to roll into the middle. However, the positives of this property make the couple of issues very forgettable. Would definitely recommend this property.

  • "A very nice property in a good location for exploring the area."

The bedrooms and bathrooms were well presented with good facilities. Downstairs however, there were several things that were disappointing. The oven and hob were difficult to use, even using the manufacturer instructions provided. The hob had no instructions and on requesting these from the housekeeper we got an e-mail that showed dials for a different model of the make. Clear written instructions should be added to the house book. Similarly the washing machine manufacturer's instructions were for a completely different make to the one provided. The dishwasher was out of order for the duration of our stay and no tea towels were provided. As a property for 8 people the provision of crockery and cutlery was inadequate; there were only 8 knives and forks and 8 wine glasses! Even with a dishwasher people do not want to be continually washing up. The dining table is of very poor quality with the joints separating and uneven. There are only 6 dining chairs and 6 breakfast chairs meaning we were moving chairs around at each mealtime. We had to request keys from the housekeeper to be able to open the bi-fold doors to the garden and the back door to the property has a very stiff lock making it difficult to use. The housekeeper was very helpful and responsive. This feedback will, I hope, be taken in a constructive manner as the owners have a very nice property that could be turned into a super one with some further, modest, investment. At present I would say that the property is not good value for money but with improvement could be.

Thank you very much for your review. We do hope you enjoyed the stay and do appreciate your feedback. We will certainly ensure to add instructions for the appliances to the house book, apologies if these were tricky to use. We are also adding additional crockery, cutlery, glasses and dining chairs. Our sincere apologies for the dishwasher, we have been trying to rectify, sorry it was unavailable for your use. Property Owner
