The hot tub and sauna was great especially as we had good weather. The property was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The annex was useful as had 2 members of group who struggle with stairs, both rooms in the annex had ensuites. The beds in all the rooms were spacious and rooms had plenty of space. An excellent property and look forward to going again.

It was a 50th Birthday Celebration, there was plenty for everyone to do inside and out. The games room, snooker table and hot tub were well used. The house was very well equipped for cooking and dining. The bedrooms were light, clean and comfy and everything had been well thought out. Lou was a fabulous host meeting us on arrival and showing us round. Great weekend, Thank you

  • "The pictures don’t do this place justice!"

Absolutely incredible property with fantastic facilities. Our party ranged from 10 months old to 70 years old and everybody enjoyed themselves. The property was exceptionally clean which was lovely seeing as we had crawling babies, everyone who stayed also commented on how comfortable the beds were and what a homely feel the place had. Communication before our arrival was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. We are already looking at potentially booking for Christmas time!

  • "It would be helpful to have more, simple information re the Formula 1 games."

The fire alarm went off at 4.30a.m. Luckily, one of our party was able to turn this off (after we had checked everywhere). Could there be instructions in the booklet if there is a false alarm? Some new cooking pots and pans would be good.

  • "This property was fantastic."

Very spacious, clean, great character with keeping the original pub feel. Rooms light, airy and beds really comfortable. We used it for team building, so all the table games etc, went really well. We go to different large houses most years and would definitely like to use this one again. It was perfect for what we wanted

  • "A beautiful, well equipped property."

Plenty of cutlery, crockery and glasses. 2 kettles, 2 microwaves, 2 large fridge and a large freezer. The very fast dishwasher & ice machine were brilliant, also washer, dryer and iron for those who wanted such things. Availability of high chair and cot was great. Games room was a hit. We set up a table with a jigsaw and another with crafts and colouring things for the children for the week and it was not in the way as property is vast. (Craft and colouring things brought from home). Beds comfy, and rooms very nicely decorated, all having a hairdryer and shampoo & conditioner. Plenty of parking. Hot tub and sauna were fab. Downsides, showers upstairs went cold if more than one being used, toilet in one annexe didn't flush well. One bedroom is not ensuite, but we used the toilet at the bottom of the stairs during the night & the shower in the changing room so that we had our own space. All things considered, the pluses far outweigh the negatives and it's a great place for a big family holiday. Would highly recommend. Also, Tracey, the manager, was friendly, helpful and accommodating as some of our group arrived earlier than planned.

Plenty for everyone to do, the facilities are amazing plenty of utensils plates etc. we cooked a Sunday roast for 16, the kitchen was very well equipped. Nobody had any negatives the rooms are plenty big enough and clean. Would definitely recommend and would return again. The hot tub and sauna and a plus, the garden area would be fantastic in the summer. Thank you Tracey for running through everything with us.

  • "I have just spent a week in this wonderful place celebrating my 70th birthday."

Me and my family, all 21 of us are still talking about how amazing it was. All boxes were ticked, truly. Thank you Lou for meeting us on the first day, it was like Christmas when we walked into the pub. The karaoke was brilliant and the F1 simulators were much enjoyed. Every room had the most comfortable bed. Thank you Tracey for looking after us, always there at our beckon call when needed. The sauna and steam room were the icing on the cake for us. What a treat to relax a week before Xmas. My brother in law loves cooking and he said the kitchen was to die for. None of us could fault the place. Thank you also to Sykes Cottages who were most helpful when I had any queries. I whole heartedly recommend The Five Bells Inn and will look to return again in the future.

The kitchen comes with everything you could possibly need to cater for yourselves, by making the most of the large preparation spaces, the indoor barbecue, range cooker and the industrial microwave before serving up in the former restaurant.

Regroup with your loved ones within the charming, tram-themed restaurant with first-class booths to tuck into your meal, whilst younger guests of the group will be delighted to find an exciting air hockey and table tennis table.

After dinner, look forward to unwinding within the sitting room, where you can sink into the plush chesterfield sofas and flick on the TV before heading to bed.

The pub comes with seven en-suite bedrooms and has been designed to ensure a flexible sleeping arrangement to suit the needs of your group.

On the first floor of the pub there are six bedrooms, comprising of three king-size bedrooms, a family bedroom with three single beds, a family bedroom with a king-size bed and twins and a twin bedroom, perfect for couples, families or friends.

For those who do not wish to climb the stairs or are seeking some privacy from the rest of the group, the pub plays host to two annexes, comprising of a king-size bedroom with en-suite and a family bedroom with a king-size bed and a single bed.

Immerse yourself in your surroundings further by exploring the Outwell and Upwell walk, where you can uncover the tramway that inspired the classic children’s story of Thomas the Tank, written by Reverend Wilbert Awdry.

Alternatively, head slightly further afield to Wisbech, where you will find a larger selection of amenities and attractions including, Peckover House and Garden, the Wisbech & Fenland Museum and the Fenland and West Norfolk Aviation Museum.

About the location

UPWELL

Wisbech 6.5 miles; King's Lynn 18.9 miles

Upwell is a small and charming village resting amidst the glorious Norfolk countryside, just 18.9 miles away from King’s Lynn. The villages of Upwell and Outwell were once collectively known as 'Welle' or 'Welles' and even today, it is not obvious where one village starts and the other ends. Within this attractive waterside village, you will find a host of amenities. Until 1960s, Wisbech tramway connected the village, however, when it closed a preservation society arose, led by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, who is known as the author of the Thomas the Tank Engine books. Today, you can discover the history of the tram, which provided much of the inspiration for the classic children’s stories by exploring the Outwell and Upwell walk. Alternatively, explore the historic town of King’s Lynn, home to a vibrant town centre and several endearing cobbled lanes, as well as the impressive Custom House, which overlooks the harbour. From Upwell, you can also visit the towns of Downham Market and Wisbech, or if you are feeling adventurous, explore the open landscapes of the Fens, as well as the Wildfowl and Wetland Centre in Welney. Upwell make a wonderful base for exploring surrounding Norfolk with your loved ones.
