"This was our third stay at the cottage, which says it all."
It has everything you need for a really comfortable stay in a very secluded spot which is very close to Llangollen and lots of other places to visit. The canal is on your doorstep offering lovely easy short and longer walks whichever you want. There is a great log burner in the living room, supplementing the very efficient central heating, which is most welcoming on cold October evenings. The kitchen is well equipped with lovely views from the dining table. Three good size bedrooms and two spacious bathrooms complete the cottage. The garden is a great size for sitting out admiring the view, even in late October it was a nice sun trap. The dogs loved it and being so secluded it provided excellent star gazing opportunities. The owner lives nearby and is very helpful without ever being intrusive. A delicious homemade cake provided a nice welcome on our arrival.

"A lovely cottage in beautiful, secluded, quiet surroundings."
The cottage is very comfortable, clean and has everything you would need. Beds are comfy and bedrooms are spacious. Loads of space throughout the cottage, with a comfortable lounge and well-equipped kitchen. The garden is fully dog-safe with outstanding views. Although secluded, Llangollen is not far away and can be reached by walking along the adjacent canal; or in the opposite direction, a short walk will take you to the Pontcysyllte aqueduct. Celia is a great host, friendly and helpful and never intrusive. Looking forward to returning again next year, Thank you.

"Lovely property in a great location."

"Bryn Howell Stables is a lovely rural retreat."
The conversion has been very sympathetically done and many of the features of the old stables have been retained. It feels very homely and lived-in. It is ideally situated near the famous canal, only separated from it by a high hedge. It is a two mile walk along the canal towpath in one direction to Llangollen and a one and three quarter mile walk in the other direction to the famous aquaduct. The location is very quiet and secluded. You need to be aware that you have to travel a little way on a narrow, unpaved track to get to the property but we didn’t find this a problem. The property is ideally situated to take advantage of all the walking and outdoor activities available in the area. I went canoeing across the aqueduct with “Bearded Men Adventures” which I would highly recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
-
"It was a perfect place for exploring North Wales and for walking along the canal."
Such a comfortable place with everything we needed. It's the first time we have left a cottage and as soon as we got home booked to stay again next year
Thank you for your review Penny - glad you enjoyed yourselves, and we look forward to seeing you all next July. Property Owner

"Just the two of us and our excitable dog, Bran."
This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in. Beautiful, comfortable, superbly equipped! The scenery is stunning and the walking was brilliant. We walked to Trevor 3 times and drank/ate at The Telford. On 3 days we went in the direction of Llangollen - retail therapy, all the way to Horseshoe Falls and via the Sun Trevor we climbed up to Dinas Brân. Recommend the Wharf Cafe. Have plans to return and do it all over again
I’m glad you all had a good time Hilary - dogs and keen walkers love it here - I don’t think you moved the car all week! Property Owner

"This is a lovely property very near the canal with a nice walk to either Chirk or Llangollen."
It is very warm and has everything you need for a holiday.Top marks.
-
"Charming cottage in an enviable position."
It was extremely well equipped and comfortable. Although we stayed as a couple it was obviously spacious enough to accommodate up to six. The secure garden was ideal for our dog. The owners were unobtrusive but on hand if needed. Will seriously consider staying again

"A beautifully appointed cottage set in a perfect location which accurately matched the listing."
As a family with 3 children and a doggy, we were so pleased that the owners catered for our needs in terms of a friendly, relaxed welcome (with a delicious homemade cake on arrival) providing all the helpful information we needed around the cottage and local area whilst respecting our privacy. Although we had some illness with the kids which dampened our stay, we would love to return to explore further and would definitely like do this from Bryn Howell Stables.

"Bryn Howell Stables set the benchmark for our holiday accommodation this trip!"
Beautifully appointed cottage ✔️ Large garden for us and the dog to play in ✔️ Stunning open view of the fields and hills ✔️ Adventures on our doorstep ✔️ I had to promise my kids to come back.
-
"Another brilliant holiday at Bryn Howell."
Situated in a great position on the canal between Llangollen and the pontycystlle aqueduct, the cottage is cosy, comfortable and well equipped, everything you need for a great holiday. Geraldine

Perfect location for lots of great day trips with kids and our dog

"We really enjoyed our second stay in the cottage."
The location is ideal if you want peace and quiet and enjoy walking. The property is fantastic for people with children and dogs. It was clean and comfortable and the house is lovely and warm. The owners did everything possible to give us a warm welcome and help when we needed it. If you can’t live without reliable WiFi, this is probably not for you but for me, I enjoyed being able to switch off and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

"Our family of 4 stayed at Bryan Howel for a week, and enjoyed every minute."
The cottage is comfy, cosy, homely and very well equipped. It was a proper home from home, and had everything we needed plus more. The log burner was popular, with our girls collecting sticks for kindling each day. They also loved running about in the fields and exploring the land. The views are just stunning, we could happily watch them from dawn to dusk. Owners are kind and helpful, and homemade cake on arrival was much appreciated. The area is also fantastic. We hope to return in warmer weather to keep exploring and enjoying the outdoors.
-
"We stayed at this cottage for a week and we enjoyed every moment."
The cottage was very cosy, very well equipped, we had log burner every night. What is more, the surroundings are amazing! We had wonderful walks by the canal, explore the area and visited local pubs. We will akways come back and also recommend this cottage to our family and friends. Thank you to Nick and Celia

Cottage had everything we needed . Walking distance from the aqueduct . Right next to the canal . Not easy to find , but the owners directions helped . Lovely cake was a welcome touch .

"We were delighted with our stay at Byrn Howell Stables."
The cottage was warm, welcoming and very comfortable. The views amazing from all the windows upstairs and down. The garden space which looked out onto the view was great. The bonus for us was that when the owner came the next morning, not only to make sure we could work all the appliances etc., but he also welcomed my grandkids to use the field at the bottom of our garden to run around in. (We could keep our eye on them from inside the cottage.) He also told us that we could walk in their woods, play in their stream, and pick as many apples as we wanted from their orchard. (October 2022) We were a stone's throw from the canal and enjoyed many walks from the accommodation. A short drive away was 'Dinas Bran' (a view we could see from the cottage which the owner told us about) with its spectacular panoramic views. We had a delightful scramble from the roadside up to the ruins of the castle at the top. (About 20 mins, ages ranging from 5 to 66.) The lovely little town of Llangollen is about 3 miles away with its array of little gift shops and also an Aldi for the groceries. Midweek, we also had a fantastic day at Zipworld, Betws-y-Coed, an hour's drive away. (Expensive but well worth the joy it put on all our faces.) Everything that made for an excellent holiday for our mixed age group was found here. I liked the idea of the maintenance book which allowed us to write a small issue that could then be sorted for the next occupants. It's clearly stated by the owners in the paperwork how to get to the cottage, however, we found that a little bit challenging because we didn't remind ourselves of the info provided. (I saw it 6 months prior when I booked but forgot to revisit.) As a suggestion, I think it would be VERY helpful for the owners to remind folks of those details when ringing to find out about the key pick-up, as the satnav does NOT lead directly to the cottage. I just hope my (genuine) praise for Bryn Howell Stables, wouldn't mean I'd have to book two years in advance to get a booking confirmed in the future or that it puts the price through the roof? :-) I'd have no hesitation in returning or recommending it to others. Thank you so much to all concerned, for such a brilliant holiday!!!

"Lovely comfortable cottage in a great location dog friendly and secure garden"
-
"We fell in love with this cottage!"
So quiet and secluded, yet having the canal virtually on its doorstep and Llangollen a short drive away. The cottage is spacious and comfortable with beautiful views. We particularly enjoyed walking alongside the canal - the towpath is wide and well surfaced. The village of Trevor can be walked to along it and a visit to the Chapel cafe was a lovely incentive to do so! We definitely want to stay again next year. P.s the dog loved it too!
-
"A very comfortable and cosy cottage, thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and hope to return soon."
In a wonderful position next to the canal with lovely views, feeling secluded but not far from anywhere
-
"The cottage was well provided and comfortable and great for walks along the canal."
We explored several National Trust places and found several good places to eat. We booked the cottage assuming the hotel nearby was open but unfortunately it is closed which meant we had to travel further for eating out. Overall the cottage was delightful and very peaceful
-
"What a find."
Fantastic property in a wonderful peaceful location with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Lovely secure garden which was great for all the family including the dog. It was great to have walks along the canal on the doorstep and the homemade cake on arrival was a lovely surprise with the owners making us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back.
-
"This was our second visit to this cottage and we simply love it."
The location is excellent amid beautiful countryside and right next to the canal towpath. The cottage is spotlessly clean and well equipped and the owners are very welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for more! Highly recommended.
-
"We had an absolutely wonderful stay, thank you so much for your hospitality."
We could not have wished for more. We will definitely book again and look forward to coming to Bryn Howell soon.
-
"Bigger than the pictures suggest."
Very comfy beds. Completely enclosed garden, ideal for dogs, and use of adjacent field when cattle are not grazing. Great views and right on footpath for easy 40 mins walk to Llangollen and short walk to The Sun pub.
-
"We had a fantastic week at Bryn Howell stables."
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and has the most beautiful views up the valley. The little touches in the cottage were so appreciated, like the dog bowls and towels by the door. The surrounding area is such a great area, with lots to do especially with a dog and 2 young children. We will definitely be returning, thank you!
-
"Such a lovely cottage."
We had such a wonderful stay. Very picturesque and the owners had provided lots of useful information as well as a home made Victoria sponge cake on arrival! Couldn't recommend highly enough. Beds were comfortable, lovely wood burner in the lounge for cosy nights in. The kitchen was well stocked, we had everything we needed to do a lovely roast. Water pressure was fab. Internet didn't work the last few days, but we enjoyed being unplugged anyway.
-
"Very spacious,, almost suitable for a family, but small kitchen/diner for this."
Nice king size bed and comfy duvet. Warm once aired, but initially cold. Some of the items had signs of wear and tear. Extensive inventories of equipment, DVDs and books, but more quantity than interesting choice for guests encountering adverse weather. The tourist information was comprehensive, but, particularly as staycationing is likely to remain popular, needs updating as many outlets now are no longer trading. Overall still good, but a one-off update(more time than money)in a few areas would improve things significantly for guests. A great location for canal walks to either Llangollen or Aquaduct. Would like to return in summer.
Thank you for your comments. I have now updated the tourist information. We do have lots of DVDs, books and games and hope everybody will find something to entertain them. Property Owner
-
"A lovely Christmas stay at this cosy cottage."
The owner provided us with a Christmas tree and decorations. Lovely log fire. Thank you for the delicious Victoria sandwich on arrival. Lovely walks along the adjacent canal.
-
"Fabulous cottage in an idyllic location, with a genial and accommodating host."
-
"This was our second visit to this cottage and we still really enjoyed our stay."
Nice welcome with a homemade cake and even fresh milk to make that first drink. The cottage is very comfortable and being able to sit in with the log burner and warm central heating was excellent since the weather, as to be expected this time of year, was cold and wet. It is ideally situated for walks along the canal and local shopping in nearby Llangollen. Good base for touring and visiting the beautiful area. Well worth a visit.
-
"We really enjoyed staying at Bryan Howell Stables."
Loved the log burner fire,, especially after long winter days out , great to relax in front of in the evenings. Also great that you could just help yourself to the logs in the barn. Very comfortable place to stay, lovely views, ideally located to visit surrounding areas / Snowdonia etc. Owners available if you needed them, and very friendly, plus the cake was lovely !! Would definitely recommend to friends / family to stay.
-
"Absolutely Fantastic time, would definitely return next year."
Beautiful surroundings and a very homely cottage with everything you need included. Open fire so cosy, beds are so comfortable, Kitchen has everything you need. You get a lovely warm welcome from the owners and home made cake waiting for you on arrival which may i add was very yummy. We didn't experience any problems what so ever with the cottage but the owners are on hand if needed. If you consider booking you won't be disappointed so much to do in this location and there are some lovely walks. Just a lovely getaway to relax and unwind.
-
"Yes, I was really annoyed that you sent me a text and email regarding ‘ leaving the cottage in a clean state."
I am a responsible adult who can work that out for myself. Ps I had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday
-
"Lovely cottage, clean and comfortable."
Set in beautiful countryside, with dog walks right on the doorstep. Good location for local attractions, and all the information on those attraction is supplied in the cottage. One of the best we have stayed in for a long time. Sykes gave us all the necessary information on how to be prepared for our holiday and how to leave to return home meeting the requirements in this covid time, so we felt assured during our travels.
-
"Beautiful cottage, beautiful setting and views."
Canal and walks on door step.
-
"Lovely cottage which is very well equipped and in a great location"
-
"This cottage was an absolute gem."
The photos online don't really do it justice. We wanted a holiday in beautiful countryside with plenty of interesting walks around but close enough to a town (Llangollen) and a few attractions. This was perfect. We walked quite a few miles along the canal and saw the amazing aquaduct. We also visited Chester zoo, Snowdonia, Conwy castle and Portmeirion. In the evening we played family games instead of our usual telly habit. We only managed to see our host Celia just as we were leaving but she lovely and really made sure we had everything we needed.
-
"Stunning cottage in beautiful surroundings."
Very comfortable and a short distance from Llangollen.
-
"Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings, right next to the Llangollen Canal with easy walks to Llangollen and the Horseshoe Falls in one direction and the Pontcysllte Aqueduct in the other."
Perfectly placed for visiting Snowdonia and the North Wales coast, as well as Chester and Shropshire. The cottage has three spacious bedrooms and the beds were very comfortable. We took most of our meals on the terrace, soaking up the sun and the gorgeous views while the dog played safely in the enclosed garden. Highly recommended.
-
"The cottage was perfect and catered for us as a party of 6, including 2 young children plus a dog."
The location is brilliant right on the canel with fantastic views. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!
-
"A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location."
Highly recommended, to arrive to find homemade cake was a delight. Spent a lovely week right next to the canal and Llangollen a pleasant walk away.
-
"A lovely comfortable light airy cottage next to the Llangollen canal."
Originally furnished and fitted to a high standard but showing some minor issues of wear and tear. However still remains a lovely place to stay and welcomed with a home made sponge cake and a ready prepared tea tray. You may wonder where you are going as the last couple of hundred yards are along a farm track but the cottage and the views are well worth it.
-
"We had a superb break here."
The cottage is comfy and immaculately clean. Situated close to the canal enabling you to walk into Llangollen (2.5 miles) and to the viaduct the other way (2 miles) there is also a pub within a 10 minute walk. You have use of an enclosed field opposite the cottage, great for letting the dog play. There is so much more to see in the area and walks we didn't get around to, a week wasn't long enough and we plan a return visit in the future. Thanks to the owners for the warm welcome and cake!
-
"Excellent location with good walking routes (easy & strenuous) from the cottage."
Views from the panorama walk are stunning, a really beautiful area. Mrs Jenkins is friendly & makes a superb Victoria sponge! This is our second visit & I'm sure it won't be our last.
-
"Staying at this house helped us have one of the best UK holidays we've ever had."
As a large family it's often difficult to find somewhere that's affordable and can accommodate us. We found the rooms large and comfortable and the setting gorgeous. The area is perfect for getting out and about and there was more than enough to do to fill the time we stayed there.
-
"We have been visiting this cottage for nearly 10 years now and it never disappoints."
We were fortunate to be in such wonderful surroundings watching the inevitable happen back home but the owners were very considerate and had taken all the precautions you would have expected in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. We did not feel at all at risk - what better isolation could you have than this beautiful place. Needless to say we shall be returning at some point in the future.
-
"We really enjoy our Holiday, the view from the cottage Beautiful, everything we needed was available when we arrived."
The walk was lovely along the canal, easy access to all the surrounding towns. Front garden was in closed for our dog. I would go again.
-
"Cottage owners were lovely, cottage was very good"
-
"Great holiday relaxing and peaceful"
-
"Excellent cottage with lovely walks along the canal right from the doorstep."
Unmade road to cottage is narrow and rough but well worth the short drive. Cottage has everything you need, is really comfortable and very dog friendly. The homemade cake on arrival was delicious. Somewhere to just relax sitting in the garden enjoying the views or finding one of the really good places to eat nearby, including the Chapel at the aqueduct or, the hidden gem, The Prospect Garden tearooms at Garth. Hope to return in the future.
-
"Lovely cottage in a great setting in a beautiful area of Wales."
Did not have enough time to do all we wanted as the area is too good to rush visits .
-
"Wonderful cottage, so homely and comfortable."
We were made to feel so welcome with homemade tea and cake on arrival. There are spectacular views from the garden which is an enclave of peace . Lovely canal walks to Llangollen and the Pontcysyllte aquadect . Highly recommend Bryn Howell Stables we loved it!
-
"The cottage is in a beautiful setting and very peaceful."
When you wake up in the morning there is nothing to hear other than sheep and the odd canal boat passing by. I wouldn’t recommend counting on 2 adults fitting in to the middle bedroom as it is very small, but as our party was just 4 adults anyway that wasn’t an issue for us as we just used the 2 larger bedrooms. The kitchen is fitted out with high quality appliances and plenty of crockery & utensils. Really enjoyed our stay overall in this lovely cottage!
-
"Ideal place for dogs fully enclosed garden and about 20 yards away is the canal path flat walking both ways."
lots to see and do within a small radius so not too much driving.
-
"Stunning and peaceful location."
Enclosed garden is perfect for dogs. Although the heating broke down after our first day the owners provided two electric heaters which we made use of. Plenty of long walks straight from the cottage.
-
"The cottage was everything we expected with a safe and secure garden for children and pets."
The location was stunning in both sun and rain (yes it does rain in Wales) with the llangollen canal just yards away. The owners were friendly and approachable but in no way intrusive. Would highly recommend.
-
"The location of the cottage is beautiful with stunning scenery - you could never get bored looking out over the hills."
Very dog friendly, with towels and mat provided for them coupled with convenient walks right outside the door. Owners were super helpful and friendly. All in all a very relaxing place to be and we will definitely be returning.
-
"Great Cottage, Location and views from property."
-
"Perfect area."
Canal right next to us for a lovely walk with the family. Unfortunately the heating wasn't working for 5 days. Apart from that everything was perfect and we would definitely stay there again.
-
"The beauty of this cottage is it is furnished and designed like a home not just a place to stay."
A very nice "feel" to the place and the location very picturesque and convenient for walking and exploring further afield.
-
"Bryn Howell was clean, spacious and throughtfully designed to provide comfortable accommodation for our family of 6."
It is situated in a quiet rural setting in close proximity to the canal and is within easy driving distance from the main attractions that North Wales has to offer. The owners are welcoming and very helpful. I would thoroughly recommend Bryn Howell Stables and will definitely return should the opportunity arise. The Edwards Family, New Zealand
-
"Perfect holiday, everything and more provided, very happy with this holiday cottage!"
And also great location with walks right from the doorstep, next to the canal towpath
-
"A beautifully renovated property with some great features in a wonderful location."
I would highly recommend this property.
-
"We had a lovely holiday and the cottage was ideal for us; very comfortable and ideally situated."
-
"It's a truly lovely cottage in a quite and peaceful location in the beautiful Dee Valley."
The cottage has everything that anyone could need for a relaxing or energetic holiday. We had a wonderful week at the cottage - very little light pollution so the stars were visible - it's warm and cosy (we didn't use or need to use the wood burning stove) with plenty of reading material available if you forget to take a book. The kitchen is very well equipped, the lounge delightful and the bedrooms cosy and comfortable. Parking isn't a problem, and garden is enclosed which is ideal if you have a family pet, and the cottage really is dog friendly. We had a couple of meals in the very nearby hotel (Bryn Howel) and enjoyed the walks along the canal to both Llangollen and Trevor Basin for the Pontcysllte Aqueduct. If you've never had a canal boat holiday it's possible to hire a day-boat from Anglo-Welsh at Trevor Basin; take a picnic and enjoy the experience!
-
"Perfect holiday property, especially if you want somewhere quite."
We took our grandchildren, one seven years old and the other nearly five, they absolutely loved it, it was safe for them to run around the garden which was enclosed. The canal was only 20 yards away but was completely safe because it was fenced off but you could still see the barges gliding by. There is a tow path next to the canal that goes on for miles which is lovely to walk along, you can reach Llangollen in approx 40 to 50 mins walk along the tow path around 2 1/2 miles. Finally the cottage is clean and well equipped and the owners who live in their own property behind the cottage are on hand too give advice and guidance on the best things to do.
