Fabulous little hideaway..So refreshing to walk in and see how loved and cared for this house is by its owners. Enjoyed our stay here..easy access for most areas..and into chester and whitchurch..But also wexham.. Would certainly rcommend..and stay again in the future..hopefully!

"Super little cosy cottage in a nice village with decent facilities."
Ideal base for days out. (Chester, Shrewsbury, Llangollen to name but a few) We'd definately go back again. St. Oswalds church, in the village is well worth a walk round and the Lion pub has good food in smart, comfortable surroundings. All within a few hundred yards of the cottage.
-
"Lovely cottage small but perfect for 2 people."
Good location. Very quiet area. Will return
-
"Hi had a lovely stay in Wattle Cottage, everything you need."
Thank you for the gifts left. Second time I've stayed in Wattle Cottage and just as good. Only slight negative is last time I stayed the gas fire was working, would have loved use of that as had to put heating on once or twice but if had the use of the fire would have used that as was a waste heating whole of house.
-
"Lovely cottage and area the facilities were very good."
The only comment I would like to make is in the shower a shower mat would help as it was quite slippy when showering, but otherwise excellent.
-
"This is a lovely cottage with gorgeous traditional quirky features."
We had everything we needed, particularly as it rained non stop so we stayed indoors, it was so cosy. Loved the additional treats which were left for us (and doggy treats!) We would definitely stay here again, it's a lovely little village and ideal to get away from it all.

"Wattle cottage located within the South Cheshire countryside in a picturesque village of Malpas - perfect for a weekend stay."
Whilst the car parking was limited was reasonably safe found the property compact and bijou. The kitchen was dysfunctional and almost impossible to prepare from scratch dinner using fresh ingredients emphasizing the wattle cottage is just a short stay operation. Disappointment whereas that the shower room well appointed, the toilet seat was displaced requiring replacement/repair compounded with an inadequate provision of toilet paper for the stay. In conclusion our stay was a pleasant experience and certainly would recommend the cottage and make a subsequent reservation for a possible stay in the future.

"Really lovely simple comfortable cottage in great location."
We really enjoyed our week there, very relaxing. Thank you for the flowers, milk, biscuits and wine, a lovely touch.
-
"Very nice Cottage in a pretty village, we liked it very much and had a really great time"
-
"We had a lovely stay in the cottage."
We loved the location great for visiting both North Wales and Shropshire. Village of Maplas is lovely enjoyed walking to Village and lovely walks from cottage too. We will definitely return
-
"Great little cottage in a lovely village."
Plenty to do and see locally with some great walks over fields with views of the Welsh hills in the distance. Cottage is small and care must be taken on the stairs. Enjoyed our stay.
-
"We had a lovely stay at the cottage - the facilities were enough for a nice holiday."
Malpas is a great base for exploring the area with great facilities in the village. Very relaxing holiday with plenty of walks from the door with our little dog.
-
"Lovely property in a lovely location."
A name plate on the door or gate would be helpful for people arriving for the first time.
-
"It would help future residents if there was a name or number visible on the property - only finally found it by looking at the picture, with the postcode taking you some way up the road."
Otherwise a nice cottage, thank you although a soap shelf or equivalent in the shower would be good. To be clear we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend to others
-
"Cottage was lovely and extremely clean and comfortable."
Owner left us a nice bottle of wine and Cookies, which was very thoughtful and a nice welcome. Enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend. Beeston castle is worth a visit, we took a picnic and went to Chester, lovely town.

"We enjoyed our stay in Wattle Cottage."
It was quite small but comfortable enough for 2 people. The bed was lovely and comfy and the shower was excellent. Great base for visiting the area of Cheshire, Shropshire and N. Wales.. Malpas itself has good facilities - shops and pubs. Lots of lovely dog walks.
-
"Warm, small but perfectly formed."
You need to bend your head to get up and down stairs if you are over 5ft, however this did not cause us any problems. The cottage was peaceful, cozy and withh all amenities on the doorstep.
-
"Lovely little cottage, very clean, and comfortable."
-
"A charming and quirky little cottage."
Owner was very responsive to a slight problem we had. The kitchen is rather limited if you want to cook your main meals yourself but if you like to eat out there are opportunities within walking distance. Good selection of walk books and maps provided. Take your own hairdryer if you need one.
-
"Very cosy cottage, lovely area, but could have provided cleaning products."
Had a great stay. Thanks

"Very comfortable cottage in a lovely village with good facilities."
Clean and welcoming with treats for us and our dog :-) Minor quibbles: Dishwasher is loose in housing, no information about how to use the smart TV or the induction hob for dinosaurs like us - but we worked them out! Roadside parking is a bit exposed - we had originally planned to travel up in our (small) camper van and would certainly not have been able to safely leave that on the road. However overall we greatly enjoyed out stay.

"We stayed at Wattle cottage for a week in August, found it very clean and well equipped, lovely, charming cottage."
Would definitely book again.
-
"Very comfortable, We did not use the dishwasher so a drainer and fairy liquid would have been good."
Upstairs in the bedroom a mirror on the wall opposite the bed would have been very useful when drying hair as there was a socket nearby. The bottle of wine and biscuits were a nice touch. A lovely area to stay, with National Trust properties within short distances. We ate at the Lion twice very good and also the Bickeron Poacher also good. It is a lovely spot for a short break and you could buy most things in Malpas.

"The cottage is beautiful, so much history, the beams are wonderful."
The stairs are a little challenging but within a day or two I got used to them but my husband did struggle a little as he has mobility issues. So long as he went slow and steady he managed them well, just mind your head!! The cottage is tucked away nicely with parking a little way along the road from it but the road is pretty quiet so it wasn’t an issue. Everything in the cottage was perfect, a comfy bed, well equipped kitchen and a good lounge area. The coffee machine is a lovely idea though making my pot of tea in a cafetière was novel!! It took me a few days to realise there wasn’t a bug on my side plate

"Had a lovely stay at wattle cottage, the cottage was clean and comfortable and everything we needed, dog friendly."
Really enjoyed our holiday visiting surrounding areas such as Chester, Taporley Nantwich and North Wales,
-
"We had a wonderful week at the cottage, everything you need is there, the bed was so comfortable and the shower brilliant."
Thank you for the welcome bottle of wine and cookies, they went down well. There is plenty to see and do around the area and we would definitely recommend the cottage.
-
"Delightful, light and would recommend."
A little hard to find at first as a beautiful rose bush covered the cottage name
-
"Just perfect, so comfortable and lovely…."

"We loved our stay in this little cottage, and it is an excellent base for so many things to do."
The bed is the most comfortable one we have had whilst away, and the same for the shower just fabulous. Flowers were lovely, many thanks for the little gifts. The cottage was spotless, and we would definitely recommend, and also return if in the area again. Just one very little point for me, there are a lot of glasses in the cupboards but no egg cups, and I do like my boiled eggs, not a major issue, we just went with scrambled while away. Many thanks for a lovely stay.
-
"I had a lovely stay."
Cottage had everything needed, although a washing machine would have been helpful, although there was a launderette in the village. Owners were friendly and helpful. Cottage was a delight. Lovely walks on the doorstep. somewhere to hang coat(s). May I suggest put some hooks on bottom of cutlery cupboard and could hang a coat or two there, out the way and also of coat wet drips into stone floor. I had put my coat on hook by the stair but a bit in the way there.
-
"I had a lovely time at Wattle Cottage."
Everything there for a comfortable stay. May I suggest putting a couple of coat hangers on the bottom of the kitchen cupboard to the right of the back door, or on the back door, somewhere to put coats, especially if they are wet as stone floor there. The owners were friendly and helpful. Super walks easily accessible on the doorstep.

"We had a lovely 5 weeks at Wattle Cottage and found it to be the perfect location for us to explore from."
Malpas itself has everything you need, pubs, restaurants, fish and chip shop, local food stores, bakery all within a short walk. The cottage is very cosy, clean, and well equipped, perfect for 2 travellers. The location is peaceful and private due to its slightly elevated position. Our very, very small dogs enjoyed the front garden and the treats left by the owner who also made sure we weren't left out with a welcome gift of biscuits, coffee and wine. Thank you, we did enjoy them
-
"Wattle Cottage was truly excellent in every respect."
It is compact and bijou but had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The owners provided a welcome pack on arrival which included a little treat for our furry friend who came with us, which was really thoughtful. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and tidy and was within a five minute walk to Malpas Village which had two little grocery stores, a delicatessen, bakery, chip shop, a wine bar and two pubs. We only went into the The Fire Station Wine Bar and The Lion but they were both very welcoming and homely. It was also centrally located for our trip to Chester, Cheshire Oaks and a little ride out longer to Liverpool. We will definitely be returning for another stay in the near future. Well done to the Owners for all the lovely touches!

"We had a lovely stay in that nice cosy cottage!"
We will definitively come back and stay there again!
-
"Had a great break in this quirky cottage."
Lovely place, well equipped, the bed was so comfortable. Although located on a main road, didn't really notice the traffic noise. I forgot my hair dryer so contacted Jonathan who happily provided me one. My four legged friend enjoyed his little holiday with lots of dog friendly place near by

"The cottage was lovely - everything we needed for our stay."
Location was great with a few shops for essentials. The area was stunning with lots of places to visit.
-
"A beautiful and cosy cottage."
The facilities all felt like we were the first to use them and everywhere was spotless. The owner even called to check everything was ok. Malpas was a surprisingly wonderful base for exploring the stunning and undiscovered Cheshire - the best of Britain everywhere. Lovely walks, countryside, canals and exceptional views. Every pub we visited was top notch for food and service (Bear - Whitchurch, Swan - Marbury, Ship - Chester, Pheasant - Burwardsley) Everywhere was dog friendly (inside too) and all were extremely friendly. Cheshire is a jewel that most people miss who head for the coast or Wales.
-
"Just returned from a fabulous 5 night stay at Wattle Cottage, the cottage itself was full of character and extremely comfortable, a lovely comfortable bed and an amazing welcome pack of goodies which was greatly appreciated by us and our 4 legged friends."
A certain amount of contortionism was required to manoeuvre the stairs but only added to the charm of the property. Parking was never an issue for us - yes there is no parking directly outside the cottage but just a little way down the road was where we parked and we could see our car from the bedroom window it was never a worry at any point. The cottage is really well situated as a base for exploring Cheshire and North Wales we did many day trips including Cheshire Oaks, Delamere Forest and West Kirby Beach The Village itself is charming, quiet and peaceful but has everything you need within a couple minutes walking, we very much enjoyed the Malpas Chippy after a day at the beach and Forts of India was also fabulous. Overall a fantastic stay and we'd love to return, thanks Again

"Wattle Cottage was a truly lovely place to stay, loved the character and feel of the property."
Well equipped for our needs, nice touch with cat treats in the welcome pack.
-
"Malpas cottage is a very quaint, cosy cottage."
The surrounding village is lovely, with a great pub too. The parking isn’t a bother, although it is worth noting your car won’t be outside the property and needs to be parked a little up the road. Amenities in the cottage were as expected, the only small thing was there wasn’t any washing up liquid nor a sponge/cloth to wash up with. In addition, there were quite a few cobwebs around. Otherwise, lovely stay and I would recommend.
-
"The cottage is fantastic, very well furnished and comfortable."
Just a couple of points, not criticisms, i think it should be made more clear that the kerbside parking is a little walk away. You cannot see your car from the cottage and the roads are very narrow. Also don't expect everyone to use the dishwasher, it would be a bonus if washing up liquid and a drainer were supplied.
-
"Lovely, well presented cottage, had everything needed for a relaxing break, thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely recommend."
-
"Lovely small but well equipped cottage."
We had a wonderful time exploring the local area and visited Chester and managed to fit in shopping at Cheshire Oaks. Lovely village with most amenities unfortunately due to COVID-19 we didn’t get chance to try the local pub or restaurants. As noted in other reviews the stairs from the roadside to the cottage are steep and there is very little headroom for the stairs in the cottage. Less abled may have problems. Would happily recommend this cottage and we would stay again.
-
"Wattle Cottage is beautifully restored and furnished with good taste and first class fittings throughout."
It is small but perfectly formed and located in the wonderful village of Malpas with great architecture, plentiful amenties and country walks on the doorstep. Going down the stairs required a little body origami for this taller visitor, but we like quirky places and this ticked all of our boxes and gave us a few new boxes besides. Would definitely stay again!
-
""Practically perfect in every way"."
Petite but perfectly proportioned, Wattle Cottage has absolutely everything you need for a really comfortable stay. The owners have furnished it beautifully and left lots of small, thoughtful touches which, after seven months lockdowned in London made my stay feel extra special. My 5-year-old nephew who lives in the village came for a visit and described it as 'The best holiday cottage in the whole world'. I would very much like to stay again. Thank you!
-
"Charming cottage ,perfect home comforts with hotel standards."
-
"Excellent location and very comfortable cottage."
.just a few suggestions..instead of a bar of soap to use in the kitchen a pump soap dispenser would be better..with bar soap you should throw outwhich is wasteful..a pump you can easily disinfect the outside of the pump which can be used over and over...also...I was one person..I did not need the dishwasher, by hand was easier plus it is suggested to wash the frying pan by hand but there was no dish soap to do this so I bought some and left it for the next guest...also..if you offer the use of outdoor table and chairs, they should be cleaned off just like indoor furniture before guests arrive then perhaps I might have used them....luckily I brought my own outdoor chair....these are just points to ponder..I was very satisfied with what I had and what I was able to use...I would definitely book again if I want to treat myself to a quiet getaway and Wattle Cottage was perfect for that...I did speak with the owners for parking clarification and they were wonderful and accommodating...thanks again

"Well placed for getting about nearby Cities by Car ."
Pubs that allow dogs nearby Friendly Village Great T.V. size with Netflix !! Have to use dishwasher as no drainer in the kitchen There are 10 steps to the property. Lovely, helpful owner.

"It was a lovely cottage, just right for where we wanted to visit."

"We had a brilliant stay at wattle cottage!"
The cottage is beautiful, clean and in the best location. The cottage had a lovely feel to it and we even had a bottle of wine waiting in the fridge along with welcome pack! We had day trips to Chester, Snowdon and went on plenty of local walks. We can’t wait to go back again next year!
-
"We will definitely book again through your site, we got the accommodation we wanted at a great price and received great service, thank you."
-
"Wattle Cottage is an absolutely beautiful little place."
Perfect for what I wanted. Relaxing, everything I needed inside and a great base to explore the local area. It’s small but really has a touch of luxury about it. The shower is fantastic!!! The owner is friendly and helpful and the welcome pack was amazing. You can tell I loved this place and will return!

About the location
MALPAS
Tarporley 12 miles; Chester 15 miles.
Malpas is a charming village deep in the south Cheshire countryside, home to Norman Motte and Bailey Castle, as well as a medieval street pattern. There are ample shops in the area, together with traditional inns, one being The Lion at Malpas, a quintessentially British inn serving delicious food and drink, with beautifully designed seating spaces to relax in, it dates back to the 16th century and is a real gem. The area is scattered with holiday cottages, found tucked away in quiet parts of the town, or in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Without doubt the town's treasure is its church, built of rich red sandstone with good examples of fine medieval work. Malpas lies within the shadow of the Peckforton Hills, is close to Tarporley and the Delamere Forest, with Tilston and Tushingham being within easy reach. There is access to Chester races or Bangor on Dee racecourse, several golf courses and fishing. It is good cycling countryside and boating is one of the pleasures of the nearby Shropshire Grand Union Canal. Cholmondeley Castle and Garden is well worth visiting, one of the region’s top tourist attractions.
