  • "10 of us had a great 3-night stay."

The house felt like a home. It was clean and warm. The games room was really appreciated. Sam was welcoming, friendly and available for advice during our stay. A great place to spend a few days within easy reach of Chester.

  • "Excellent house."

Good base for Chester and North Wales. We were concerned about road noise but it wasn't an issue. Sam very accommodating and on hand should there be any problems.

  • "We have just had a brilliant week, the two main reasons are."

Firstly Sam the host is an amazingly caring and attentive host, full of knowledge of the surrounding area, secondly the Manor is amazing. Full of history and character, but at the same time equipped with everything you need for an amazing stay.

  • "This is a lovely house, tastefully decorated and furnished with a very well equipped kitchen for eating in."

There are a number of pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance for eating out. The garden is a delight with a covered seating area, hot tub, sauna and a games and music room. Sam, the owner, is a very friendly and helpful lady. I absolutely recommend this property as a comfortable base to explore this area of the country.

  • "Delightful property with lots of quirky features."

The owners were extremely helpful before and during the rental period and the property was well kept, inside and out. "House rules" were clear and reasonable (e.g. no glass in the hot tub). The hot tub was clean and very relaxing. Check in and check out were also very relaxed and allowed a great deal more flexibility than most places. Excellent location for most Chester and Chester-adjacent attractions. 8 adults and 2 kids never had space issues in either the house or the garden (and most of us could even fit in the hot tub at the same time!). Overall, an excellent location and host.

  • "We had an amazing time!"

Was great to relax and the kids loved playing in the garden and games room. Sam was really helpful and gave us lots of useful information on the surrounding area. We didn’t want to leave.

  • "Mickle Trafford Manor is a beautiful spacious house, which by far exceeded our expectations."

(I don’t think the photo’s or details on the website do it justice). Both house and garden had plenty of seating for everyone (group of 8 adults). It was great to have enough comfortable seating in the lounge for everyone to sit in there together. (Very difficult to find this in holiday properties). The whole house had been carefully thought through to ensure there was enough of everything for everyone: seating, fridges, oven space, pots, pans, games (the list could go on). The house is very well equipped, beautifully presented and the games room was just brilliant. The hot tub was lovely for those in our group who wanted to relax during the evenings after days out. Sam and John were fab giving advice, such as where to visit. They were incredibly responsive to any questions regarding the house. Such lovely people too, very friendly and accommodating. The Manor is in a good location. In walking distance of two pubs. We had a Taxi for 4, from Chester centre back to the Manor which was under £10 (less than £2.50 each). It’s an easy drive to: Chester centre, many places of interest, Cheshire Oaks shopping village and an array of different supermarkets. We had a cyclist in our group who found some lovely cycle trails. In summary: A beautiful property exceeding any expectations, exceptional owners, great location. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing lady’s weekend away, the house I so well located for Cheshire Oaks, Chester Zoo etc. The house has lots of parking, amazing games room and activities, comfy beds, every room is en-suite, you could stay here and not need to leave the house. Perfect for families too. We had absolutely everything we needed and loved the little touches Sam left. Can’t wait to return! Thank you

The property

Mickle Trafford Manor is an outstanding, country home set on a private cobbled courtyard in the village of Mickle Trafford, just a short distance from Chester City centre.

This stunning period property oozes character and quality in its fixtures and fittings, having been carefully upgraded over many years by its existing owner and is perfect for those wishing to celebrate a special occasion.

As you enter through the porch you arrive in an incredibly welcoming entrance hall, with gas feature coal fire set in a traditional inglenook hearth, sided by church pews and comfy armchairs where you can relax and socialise with passing guests.

The main sitting room retains a feeling of informal grandeur, with elegant seating in the main area and informal cushioned window seats in the large bay window overlooking the pretty garden.

A second snug reception room with garden doors leads through to the kitchen and dining area with breakfast counter and cosy dining table.

A former servant's staircase leads up to the Cottage room, a romantic double bedroom with private balcony and en-suite bathroom.

The main oak staircase winds up to three more bedrooms; the Balcony room with balcony and super king-size double bed with stylish en-suite facilities featuring a walk- in shower, the State room with an impressive emperor double bed, exposed oak wall frame and beams and master en-suite with double-ended bath, walk-in shower, bidet and twin basins, and the Green room which is equally well-furnished with a super king-size double bed with an en-suite bathroom and seating area.

A second floor staircase leads you to the stylish and characterful Top room, furnished in an elegant 1950s style, and featuring a super king-size double bed and en-suite facilities.

A summerhouse across the garden provides a tranquil heated retreat, allowing you to look back and admire the house and garden, and of course a property of this standard would not be complete without a hot tub to slip into for a well-earned pamper.

For an added touch of luxury, end each day in style with an indulgent seat amongst the warmth of the elegant sauna whilst the little ones keep themselves entertained with a game of air hockey, pool or table football in the thrilling games room.

Chester is home to excellent shopping and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from.

Why not pay a visit to Chester Cathedral or perhaps take a boat trip along the beautiful River Dee and for animal and nature lovers, no trip to Chester would be complete without a visit to Chester Zoo or the nearby Blue Planet Aquarium.

This superb cottage will provide a truly memorable holiday for anyone lucky enough to stay in this fantastic holiday home.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £500.

Where you’ll be staying

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
