  • "On arrival met with an overwhelming smell of damp."

I appreciate we are in the countryside but pretty much every window wasn’t shut properly because it had ivy coming in. Every night we hoovered up a multitude of spiders before any of us could sleep (and there were a few huge ones!). The bedding and showers were clean but we had to clean the toilets before we could use them on the first day! Generally looked as it was in the pictures but it’s just tired and not fully looked after or cleaned properly. We left a full night early, as we just wanted to get home! Would not recommend or rebook.

  • "Upon arrival we found that the door handle was hanging off so reported it immediately."

Someone came to look at it and couldnt do it so said he would send his grandad. It was obvious it needed a new lock but my husband helped do a temporary fix. The cottage was absolutely filthy with cobwebs and dead insects everywhere, we mentioned this at the time but nothing was done. I again complained a couple of days later and Someone came and mopped the floor!! Still filth and dead insects on every windowsill. I pulled the bin out to empty it and there was a build up of dirt and debris behind it, very obvious this hadn't been moved in months! I also attempted to vacuum myself but the vacuum cleaner was also filthy and covered in cobwebs. Plates and dishes were chipped and there was no way I was going to use the oven!!! Even the barbecue was broken and disgusting. We had to eat out for every meal as there was no way we could use the pans etc in there. This cost a lot more than we had planned for. The outdoor bbq house was dirty and unuseable with extension cables trailing everywhere. The owner and staff were not very friendly, on checking out the owner was outside reception and totally ignored me. I would definitely not recommend Atlantic Farm to anyone and if this is the standard of properties you use I would not recommend Sykes Cottages either.

  • "A lovely welcome on arriving reception, we were shown to the cottage which was spacious and had all the facilities we needed."

We were disappointed with the overall cleanliness as there were numerous cobwebs and spiders in every room, i was going to use the vacuum to remove them but it was blocked and full of hair so i took it to reception and they returned it later that day we vacuumed all the way through which felt better. The general state of the cottage was poor with plaster coming off the walls and theyhad attempted to paint over magnolia with white paint so overall we were disappointed with the cottage and left a day earlier.

Bude is a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
