  • "We have rented many holiday cottages in Bude over many years and this was the best of them all!"

Wonderful location, exquisite garden and very well equipped.

  • "Excellent property with comfortable rooms and good facilities."

A few minor negatives, the stairs are steep and with low headroom. The satellite signal is poor and the WiFi insufficient bandwidth for many users. However, situated in a quiet spot on a narrow road it has excellent views, a great garden and is close to Bude. Would recommend the walk along the canal! Has everything you need for a large family in a scenic spot. The ev charger is also a great addition. We had a great holiday..

  • "A butter dish and hand towel in the kitchen short of wonderful for us as a holiday home."

Spacious, well equipped house with lovely gardens. We really enjoyed being able to walk out from the house into Bude or the coast at Widemouth Bay along the Bude Canal. Table tennis and hot tub were an added bonus and well used. Very quiet location. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in as a family group of adults.

  • "We had a really lovely time at Otterburn house."

It is beautiful in stunning grounds in a fabulous location. There were a few issues. The house could have been cleaner. There were cobwebs and spiders absolutely everywhere. Generally cleaned basically. We had quite a bad head injury from the low doorway between the snug and hall. I feel more needs to be done here for safety. Padding needs to be attached at least. Also would suggest another handrail at the opposite side on the stairs. They are quite steep and slippy and the older end of our party struggled. Apart from the head injury these issues did not put a dampener on our stay. We would return but would avoid that door way. Thank you for having us.

Three generations formed our trip and the high level of comfort it afforded and location generated an idyllic break. The gardens, sitting out area and hot tub enabled a truly relaxed holiday. Thank you.

  • "We loved the house and beautiful garden, perhaps more actual details of where to put the bin because we put it out with another bin on Thursday night and it reappeared un emptied on Friday morning."

Also we didn’t know which week was recycle week. Otherwise an amazing holiday let very peaceful with lots of wildlife visiting the garden. Lovely hot tub, lots of kitchen equipment and loads of space for everyone to do their thing. There’s a wheel missing off the chair in the office. Our food delivery didn’t make it because Asda Bideford couldn’t find the property and the road closed thing was very strange. Those lanes are scarily narrow!!!! Made for fun journeys!! Overall a lovely experience and provided you have no mobility issues and good orientation skills you’ll love it.

  • "Fantastic property with great facilities."

This house was just perfect for a home from home break for our family of 5. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable. Hot tub and garden were lovely although sadly it was quite stormy when we visited…. But we did make great use of the living room fire. Only downside was that the living room tv did not work to get Sky which was a bit frustrating.

  • "Probably the best Sykes cottage I've stayed in."

The location was excellent. The house itself was superb. The gardens amazing! Loved the hot tub. We made friends with Dave the huge spider in the main en-suite bathroom! Lol. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for cleanliness was because of the cobwebs. And for the furniture, was because everything was a little tired and worn out. Not surprising really as I bet this place is never empty! Otherwise, spot on. The smell outside took a bit of getting used to. But I guess when you have a sespit sewerage it can't be helped. We would definitely think about re- booking another holiday. Well done to the owners and to Sykes.

  • "There were a lot of cobwebs around, kitchen, bedrooms etc."

My daughter found a vape on the top of a wardrobe in one of the single bedrooms. We also had a visit from a mouse in the room with the desk in. We tried to get it out but it disappeared. Door handle came off in my hand to bathroom. Dishwasher did not clean very well.

  • "The property is exactly as advertised as is absolutely lovely."

The kitchen is extremely well stocked . The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. Just a couple of little comments - the step down into the main bedroom en-suite is quite deep and the looseness of the door knob was perhaps an indication that it had been used as a support - maybe a small grab handle might be useful especially during the night - and the stairs are very steep so perhaps a second stair rail would help young and old alike. I have already shown many friends the pictures and would recommend the property without hesitation- Thank you.

  • "What an amazing cottage and gardens."

It feels and look like an old cottage but it has all the modern living you could want. The owners have got the balance perfect. We loved the modern shower and bathrooms, which also maintained the old cottage feeling. The gardens were amazing as well with a fantastic view across Bude. It was lovely to share the gardens with the wildlife and the hot tub is a great touch. We would definitely stay here again. My only feedback would be to repair of replace the fencing on the entrance gates as our little dog managed to get under it so we had to put the bins out to try to prevent this.

  • "Fabulous house to bring together the wider family."

The grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed having such a great garden space to play together. The adults really appreciated the peace and quiet as well as the table tennis and hot tub!! The family lounge was a great space to come together at the end of the day, and having the separate snug was useful when football clashed with toddlers desire to watch their programs :-) A great base to explore Bude, the Canal and Bude Marshes. Would recommend the Weir at Whaleborough for great food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in a lovely location. Perfect place to dine out with little ones We really appreciated being able to recycle our rubbish. Darren was very helpful when we discovered a couple of maintenance issues - they were very quickly resolved. We do feel the website should make clear that there are steps in several places between the downstairs rooms, and the stairs are quite steep. Also hoping there will be a bit more attention to replacing light bulbs and cleaning dust and cobwebs from behind and under furniture

The property is absolutely gorgeous and has everything you could ever need. The garden is beautiful, and the view from the master suite.. wow! The only thing that could do with an update is the cot, the mattress isn't really a mattress it's very hard and our 8 month old couldn't sleep on it. Other than that, absolutely perfect! • "This cottage is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in."

You tend to find there is always something not quite right or a bit uncomfortable but the owners of this cottage have thought about every little detail and taken everything into consideration to make it feel like a real treat. The cottage is big, spacious, warm and comfortable. Lovely big sofas, lovely comfortable beds, lovely bed linen, lovely thick white towels, big double showers, lots of hot water, all the things you need with teenage kids after longs walk on very windy beaches . The hot tub was fantastic, another treat, and the garden space is big and inviting, you are not overlooked and look out over the fields towards the canal - and you have a lovely view of the sunset. You can walk into Bude taking the path down from the cottage along the canal which takes 20 mins or so and there is a great tapas restaurant along this path. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable break, we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to Darren who was so helpful with everything too!

It ticked every box on our wish list: a bathroom for each couple, parking for 3 cars (with 2 toddlers and a large dog we don’t travel light!), a big garden with uninterrupted views, a large kitchen diner where we could all assemble, a lounge for the grownups and a playroom for the little ones. The hot tub was great for relaxing when the children had gone to sleep too. The house is equipped with Le Creuset, Emma Bridgewater, thick towels, comfy beds, I could go on.,. The location is ideal, a walk along the canal leads straight to the beach. We loved the nearby Electric Bakery - ooh those almond croissants, just delicious! The house managers were extremely helpful, responding to queries promptly and even texting a thank you for leaving the house tidy after we’d departed.

It was very clean and the bed linen was really fresh. The only item which could have been more accommodating was the check out time of 9.30am. The cleaners were already waiting at 9.15am and this is a very early time to check out when you are a family of 5. A standard check out is generally 11AM as a 4 - 5 hour turnaround should be ample for the housekeepers to clean the property.

The pictures online do not do the house justice the house is beautiful with everything on your doorstep with 5 mins drive. The only issue we had is that we found some silver fish on some of the plates in the cupboard maybe this needs a little deep clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house was spotless. We felt the property could benefit with a BBQ area and maybe some large lawn games. I will definitely be looking to stay here again in the future but this time with my young family. High recommend this property.

About the location

BUDE

Tintagel 17 miles.

Bude is a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
