  • "The house is lovely but in need of a really good spring clean."

Cobwebs everywhere. The essentials like bedding bathrooms and kitchen were spotless but the house itself needs to have some love too. Listing needs to say there are steps into kitchen and no down stairs toilet. Having two people with limited abilities with stairs did struggle. Cowshed was lovely but needing a fire alarm in there as the heater gets very hot we turned it off as weather was very mild fire the time of year. The shared drive needs to have house name on it so that it can be found easier. Our dog got out of the garden so isn’t secure but can imagine the garden is beautiful in the summer. Maybe a welcome book of where you can visit things close by and what days bins go out where they need to be kept etc. just general household things would be nice. Lovely gift on arrival of scones and bubbles. Host is extremely helpful and welcoming. Was a great week away.

Thanks Michelle for your helpful and constructive feedback. I fully understand the issue with period side of the property and we have plans over the winter for renovation which I trust will help. Good idea re house name (only on garden gate) and I will check garden for any areas that may be susceptible to security breaches by our canine friends. Thanks for your positive points too, and glad you enjoyed your holiday Property Owner

Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and it was very, very nice to arrive after a long journey, to some delicious scones and a bottle of wine

  • "We had a fabulous holiday with our family staying at Little Chycoose."

On arrival we found a beautiful welcome package and the cottage was perfect. Grandparents had their own bedroom and ensuite in the "Cow Shed" whilst the children could explore the huge house, the large garden and summer house/games room. Our youngest was obsessed with the piano and provided entertainment for all! The kitchen/dining area was fabulous and the large folding doors proved invaluable in the hot weather we were blessed with. We were able to get to so many beautiful places in Cornwall because of where this house is situated. Mark was the perfect host and proved invaluable when we needed his assistance. Would definitely recommend if you want to explore Cornwall during the day and then relax in the evening away from the rush of the city.

Thank you so much and delighted you all enjoyed it. Property Owner

  • "Lovely time spent in a wonderful cottage."

Main family in the house; grandparents in the Cow Shed. Well equipped kitchen/ dining/ family area, peaceful 'reading room' and a cosy lounge. Benefitted from a utility room too. Comfy beds and modern batherooms/ shower rooms. The mezzanine area above the kitchen was a hit with our granddaughter, as was the piano! Pretty gardens, although the weather had turned, so couldn't sit out there but made use of the table tennis table in the summerhouse. Great base for exploring the beautiful Cornish countryside. Very remote, but found it ok. Only downside was the cleanliness of the property. Loose grout on floor in Cow Shed and lots of cobwebs everywhere. Other than that, we had a lovely time!

Thank you for your informative and constructive feedback articulating excellently some of the joys the cottage has offer. I will address the issues you have mentioned and thanks for letting me know. Property Owner

  • "It’s been a week since we got home from our stay at Little Chycoose, I’ve missed our time there every day since being home."

I have been visiting Cornwall every year since age 7 apart from my teen years that were spent in Canada. There is something about Cornwall that gets under your skin and finds a place in your heart. We went on to take our children and now our grandaughter has had her first holiday in Cornwall. Little Chycoose was a real home from home, everything that three generations of one family would need was catered for and we were immediately wrapped up in the special warmth and magic that exuded from it. From the welcome pack (bubbles, scones, clotted cream etc) to the milk, tea, coffee and kitchen bits, we didn’t need to worry about anything for the first day. We travelled to Cornwall from The Isle of Wight and the New Forest, quite a trip with a baby and someone with limited mobility, finding the cottage was made extra special by the little roads that led to it. As each car arrived the same things were said by the occupants ’this is just perfect’. It wouldn’t matter what time of year you visited, LC would always be perfect. Set in countryside with beautiful gardens, farmers fields for views going off into the distance and a group of squirrels to keep the dachshund’s on their toes, we had plenty to occupy us both inside and out. Ample space downstairs allowed my son in law to have business meetings via Skype whilst the rest of the family and doggos occupied the rest of the house and gardens. LC is the type of house I think of when I look at owning a property where we could all live, one that embraces family life but also allows everyone to have their own space to read, play or congregate in the kitchen, not once did we end up going out for dinner. We made full use of the kitchen space and had some wonderful meals around the large kitchen table. My husband and I stayed in the Cow Shed, tastefully decorated throughout and with a fabulous shower. It was nice to say goodnight at the end of the evening and make our way to bed, we slept well each night and in the morning we’re ready to start the day. Every year I have places I want to visit but this year, it didn’t matter. We were so comfortable in our surroundings that we stayed home several times whilst others went out for a mooch. Mark, owner of LC was lovely, thoughtful and appreciative of family life. It was thoughtful of him to make contact to ensure all was well and to see if anything was needed by any of us (including the baby). Our thoughts on LC….. perfect! Would we come again? Absolutely. I give a general heads up on anyone with an EV. We had a nightmare finding somewhere to charge and ended up in the McDonalds car park just as you head into Falmouth (about 4miles from LC). It’s a fast charge and cost us £30 to fill up. On leaving LC, we stopped at Launceston, the car park had a super fast charger and again it was just under £30 and got us home (just). I wish Cornwall would sort this out, living on the Isle of Wight we have the same problem so I’m more than tolerant of it but some may not be. Relax, you’re on holiday.

Wow Thank you SO much that is so kind. Great info and advice to others. Picking up on your point about EVs it is in our plan put in a EV charging point at the property next year! Property Owner

Starting on Monday to Sunday, we were able to use the Sunday changeover. it was easy to transport our ladies into Truro each day for practise - only 15 minutes door to Cathedral. The house is on a steep hill on a typical Cornish back lane. There is some passing traffic so you must be careful for the half a mile from the "main" road (where you can pass easily). The North and South Coast are less than 10 miles away. Once we arrived are the house, we had the big garden and extensive accommodation to ourselves. The main house has 2 bedrooms with 2 adjacent bathrooms - ideal for 2 couples. The separate en-suite annex, called the "cow shed", is a beautiful addition - very quiet with large double bed and excellent shower room. There is a small double bed for an extra person - which was used occasionally by one couple to avoid the snorer! The huge kitchen/diner extension with large bi-fold window was the most used room. 6 people round a table which could have taken 8 or more with an island cupboard/breakfast bar. The small lounge had Sky sports too!! We didn't use the garden "shed" with veranda - but it offered a full-size table-tennis table and many beach accessories - e.g. body boards. The garden lawns and borders were kept well. Thank you to the owner who looked after his visitors arrival and stay. You couldn't ask for more

  • "Little Chycoose was the perfect base for a wonderful week in Cornwall."

We loved the quirkiness of the main house in contrast to the light, airy kitchen extension. Blessed with amazing weather, we were able to throw open the bifold doors and take full advantage of the lovely dog friendly garden, outdoor dining area and summer house. The Cow Shed has been beautifully converted and was perfect for one of our party who preferred their own space. The owner Mark was on hand to welcome us and quickly iron out a couple of minor issues, neither of which detracted us from enjoying our holiday. The cottage is quite rural but well located for places such as Falmouth, Truro, St Ives etc. Great food at the nearby Royal Oak at Perranwell Station and can totally recommend the Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick/Portscatho. If you have a dog, do go to Kennall Vale nature reserve nearby, a wonderful shaded woodland walk with water, perfect when the weather is too hot for the four legged members of the family. If you're looking for a peaceful, rural location with easy access to exploring central Cornwall, then Little Chycoose is the perfect place.

It’s so homely and comfortable - and the garden is perfect to potter and play in. • "Little Chycoose is a lovely house in a lovely setting but was spoiled by the poor standard of cleanliness throughout the house, including black mould around the bath and the windows, some of which we couldn't open."

The plastic cloth covering the table in the kitchen had not been wiped for a long time and when we cleaned it showed how dirty it was by looking at the grime on the cloth that was used. This was the same for many of the touch surfaces in the house including in the cow shed and the glass topped table in the garden. We felt we had to wash every utensil, cutlery and plate before we used them. A water jug was found to have dead flies in it and there were dead flies that had not been swept away from floor space. The detergent drawer in the washing machine was filthy with brown stains encrusted inside it. This cottage has not been adequately cleaned for a long time. The whole house needs a deep clean to reach the standards we expect in a holiday cottage, never mind during a pandemic when cleaning standards are supposed to be paramount. This falls way below the standards we have come to expect in holiday cottages we have previously stayed in. If this is the standards we can expect in a Sykes Cottage we will not be booking with Sykes again.

From Mark, Thank you for your comments and what turned out to be very good feedback indeed. We were initially shocked by your findings one of our cleaning team had tested positive on a LFT in the morning. The replacement had tried his best to do the beds and bathrooms however not being an experienced cleaner there were clearly areas that he had not addressed and other areas that he skimmed over. I am so sorry that this impacted on your holiday. The same issue happened the following week but as we did not receive this excellent and detailed feedback until after you had left, it was too late and he had completed the changeover again the next week with again disastrous consequences to our previously excellent feedback record. Please feel welcome to get in touch, you have my details and I am keen to apologise unreservedly for this to you and find a way to address your negative experience. From Sykes Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. There was an ele tric fly zapper but that was not enough to control the problem. Even sitting outside the summer house proved uncomfortable. Our very nice neighbour told us that he had never known a summer like it and wondered if a newly occupied chicken farm in the vicinity was to blame. This was obviously not the fault of the owners but it did put a blot on the holiday especially as my ausutistic granddaughter is terrified of flying insects and we had problems getting her to come out of her bedroom. It has ample space - the bedrooms are a good size and there are three bathrooms, which was essential for us. The kitchen is great: it is large and very well equipped. The patio doors mean you have wonderful views of the garden. The area is extremely quiet, which was also a great boon for us. There is room for three cars in the driveway, which was also great. We thought the location might mean it would take us a long time to get to the coast, but in fact it was not a problem at all, as it meant we were ideally located to go either north or south. Holywell, Crantock and Godrevy beaches were our favourites. We would not hesitate to book this property again.
