• "Well named 'woodland retreat', clean, tidy and organised but disappointing the radiator/towel rail in bathroom didn't work and neither did the TV DVD player on a rainy day."

  Like of wifi and mobile signal was also a pain but otherwise the property was a nice to stay in and was comfortable.

  Thanks for your review John and I'm glad you enjoyed the location and property. We haven't experienced any prior issues with the TV or towel rail before and the switching for the rail was installed new just before we started letting through Sykes (Cornish Cottage Holidays). I'll be down at Woodland Retreat in a couple of weeks, so I'll look into both these items then. The wifi and mobile reception have been a longer term issue, largely because of the secluded, valley location and the site managememt team have been making ongoing efforts to improve the wifi in particular.   The woodland retreat was a beautiful place to stay,it was clean,tidy it had beautiful surroundings it was very close to all the amenities I will be booking again for 2 weeks next year loved it ,so did my dog Dasher

• "Lovely, clean and comfortable accommodation."

  Great location in woodland and very close to all amenities. Lack of WiFi signal didn't bother me as was nice to be away from it all for a while! May worry some though. Great little secure garden for our dog. Would thoroughly recommend.

• "Overall the retreat was a lovely place to stay - comfortable, tidy, and perfect facilities."

  My only minor gripe was that the WiFi signal was so poor it was unusable.

  Many thanks for your review Simon, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at Woodland Retreat. I'm sorry the wifi signal was poor and this has now been a issue for some while. A downside of the beautiful, isolated location is that wifi and mobile signal is very variable, with the site being in a valley away from town. I appreciate your comments about the wifi and will take this up again with the site manager. • "Really lovely lodge."

  Very clean and has everything you could need for your stay. The fittings and furniture are all to a high standard and the beds are very comfy. Especially liked the little touches, the tray of scones, coffee and tea, and the books and games. It's also nice to have private outside space, especially with a dog. The site is really quiet and peaceful, ideal for stargazing and making friends with the local hedgehogs!

• "It was absolutely beautiful!"

  Clean, well laid out & the hosts were extremely thoughtful with the items they provided (cooking utensils, outside bench, TV, board games, puzzles and much more…) they also went the extra mile as to leave some fresh cream, scones, jam & hot drink supplies! Which were well received after a 9 hour drive! The location is lovely & secluded, with the perfect little lawn for our pup! It was also super lovely to be away from the busy tourist attractions yet still just a few minutes drive from the local seafront with an amazing beach & parade of shops! Will 100% return next year!

• "Wifi difficult but not major."

  Just means using it outside the door.

  Thank you for your review David and I'm glad you were able to use the wifi somewhat. Pat and I visited later on Friday, to test a new wifi booster, but that didn't really help. On a positive note, Jo the site manager has let us know that even the team in reception have had some difficulties, so there's an engineer coming in on Tuesday to try and achieve a lasting improvement. I guess your 5 star review meant everything else was good for you at Woodland Retreat, so many thanks for staying and for leaving that positive review for us. Best wishes, Rob Property Owner

• "What a wonderful place!"

  The setting leaves you feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere while being just minutes away from Perranporth and a little longer to Newquay. Be prepared for birdsong and rushing stream sounds as your backdrop when staying here it really is so peaceful and the whole place is well maintained! The accommodation itself was wonderful, comfortable beds, great shower and with all the extras you might need hairdryer, ironing board etc! The lodge was well maintained and extremely clean, even additional rug for dog to have some grip on the floor and throw blankets aplenty! Host's Rob and Pat were wonderful, easy to contact and made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we could possibly need for the whole stay, especially nice was the additional extras on arrival day of milk, scones, jam and cream! Only have 2 warnings (nothing to do with woodland retreat I might add) don't rely on the site Wi-Fi {no chance of streaming at all} we were on ID mobile (3) and that was pants too, sadly common in Cornwall. Secondly was the lane to the site, many pot holes and definitely not for the faint hearted. Overall rating 11 out of 10. We will be back for sure

  Wow, Marshall, what a fantastic review and it is so much appreciated. Responding to the couple of negatives, I agree that the wifi has bit hit and miss. I haven't had any problems, but I'm just checking emails and googling things like " how to improve your holiday home'. But, it is fair to say that the wifi could be better. It's something I've spoken with site management about and, hopefully, something will be done to improve it. In the meantime, I'm going to research some alternative options. The lane is narrow from both directions and it's wise to travel fairly slowly to avoid the potholes. I'll take this up with the local authorities. The upside of these 2 points is that Woodland Retreat is in a very beautiful and tranquil place, set in 6 acres of broadleaf woodland. It was an added bonus to meet you, Shanna and Obi and Pat and I will be delighted to see you again soon. With my thanks and very best wishes, Rob Property Owner

• "The apartment was outstanding very clean and was warm in the evenings."

  The site people are very slow in cutting the grass and things to keep the site clean, bins were full in need of emptying. Only problem was no signal on the phone. Had to use the car everyday and the roads weren’t that good very narrow and potholes every here and there. Can’t walk around without somebody coming on to you to see why you are there and what you are doing. The site would be better with a shop or something. To be honest this apartment would be better in a different location and site.

  Thank you for your review Samantha, but I'm sorry to hear you experienced some issues. It's a shame that I was only informed about the long grass quite late in your holiday, but at least it was cut promptly once the weather brightened up. I visited Woodland Retreat yesterday, cut the lawn edges and installed a new picnic table and benches, in addition to the comfy garden chairs. Being in a secluded valley, there can be some problems with mobile reception, usually if the weather is poor. I can't understand why anyone would question you being on site and I will take this up with the site manager, as I've always experienced nothing but cheery and helpful staff. To finish on a positive note, I'm glad that you enjoyed the bungalow itself and appreciated the great job done by our Housekeepers, Alan and Alicia. Best wishes, Rob Property Owner

• "This is a lovely little property set in a quiet valley."

  .It is excellently equipped and maintained, and the very supportive owner responded immediately to resolve a minor plumbing problem. Even in poor weather the nearby coastline of wild cliffs and stunning beaches is a joy. So, too, are some of the local pubs and eating places. When you consider the cosy comforts of Woodland Retreat It is no surprise that we really enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to our friends .

• "This property exceeded our expectations!"

  It is sited in a beautiful wooded area and there is even a small lake where mallards and moorhens are nesting. The property has recently been refurbished to a high standard; is spotlessly clean and extremely well-equipped with hob, full-size oven, microwave, kettle & toaster. A welcome pack was much appreciated & included milk, tea/coffee and a fresh packet of delicious scones! It's very pet friendly too (but a reminder to please keep dogs on lead when entering & leaving so as not to upset the wild fowl near entrance/.exit). Very handy to visit other areas-we will most certainly return.
