  • "We have just returned from our 3rd visit to the Hayloft in 3 Years."

Each visit we've made, the house has been spotless and clean, and everything is always done to a very high standard. Great sized secure garden for the dogs to run around in. The only slight niggle is the broadband speed, It's very slow at 1.5 Mbps. However, this would not put us off booking again and we look forward to a 4th visit !!

  • "Fabulous house in wonderful setting."

Very close to Porthleven (circa 2 mile walk along quiet country lanes). Local pub serving good ales and food only 5 min walk. House is immaculate and you can tell owners take great care and maintain well between rentals. We stayed here nearly 4 years ago and house was exactly same condition. Will definitely return again and have already recommended to friends and family

Beautiful views, very homely, lovely and clean and so relaxing watching the local buzzard. Ideally situated for south Cornwall. Highly recommend the Queen's Arms for food. Only issue was the mirror in the ensuite was broken and also highly recommend a sign at the end of the lane with theHayloft on as difficult to find. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful barn conversion

  • "This is a superb property in the village of Breage, close to Porthleven and Helston."

Great location for exploring western Cornwall, especially if you have dogs, as the enclosed garden is brilliant for letting your pooches run around, without fear of escaping. The Hayloft is spotlessly clean and equipped with evrrything we needed for a relaxing stay. Set basically in the middle of a field, you can enjoy superb views of the countryside and coast in the distance, with just wildlife for company. Only very slight negatives were that its quite difficult to initially find the property, as its tucked away, up a farm track, which was quite overgrown and there are no signs at the entrance to said track. Would be incredibly difficult if arriving after dark. Great local pub, within walking distance and a village shop, but beware, that shop has very limited trading hours. That aside, a superb property, that gives a brilliant relaxing break, completely away from the hussle and bussle of the close by busy tourist resorts we all know and love.

  • "Just back from our third stay at this fabulous property."

Again property was equipped to a very high standard and was extremely clean & comfortable. Was just so relaxing sitting on the balcony with the sea view and although the house is just a couple of minutes off the main road it’s so peaceful & quiet yet still in a really good location for visiting attractions and beaches.Access to the house is down a narrow track which was very overgrown when we arrived but after my husband contacted the owners this issue was rectified the next day. Also very happy to see since our last visit that new garden furniture has been provided as it made such a difference to sit out at night with a nice bottle of wine while our dog played in the large secure garden. Special thanks also to Theresa, the housekeeper, who came out specifically to make the twin beds into a double when this request had not been passed on by Sykes & for all her efforts to keep this house so beautiful with little touches such as fresh flowers & welcome pack on arrival. We had such a fabulous relaxing holiday and are already booked for our return next year. Would highly recommend the Hayloft

  • "Absolutely loved the Hayloft."

Stunning house surrounded by fields with a view of the sea. Clean, quiet and cosy, just what I needed to get away from the stresses of work. Comfortable beds and sofa, not slept so well for ages, and yes, we dozed off on the sofa a number of times. There is a very well stocked kitchen with all the equipment you would need to cook a multi course dinner, including good quality appliances. The coffee, tea, sugar, milk and biscuits were a lovely touch for when we arrived after driving from Derbyshire. The garden is huge and was secure for our GSD. She absolutely loved the space to run around. The Hayloft is dog friendly but not to the detriment of people visiting without dogs. Location was ideal to drive to lots of different attractions. Only one slight problem was the narrow drive from the road to the Hayloft, which is not suitable for low cars and a bit overgrown, including some brambles which had my husband wincing every time we went up and down. I will love to visit again and would recommend the Hayloft to anyone who wants to visit Cornwall and stay in a quiet location.

This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed at, it was perfect for our Cocker Spaniel, Murphy, he loved the large secure garden, we could relax knowing he could not escape. We went to the local pub, the Queens Arms, several times, very friendly, lovely beer garden and food was amazing, the nearby beach of Podlhu was a little gem. We will definitely book to stay here again.

There is so much space both outside and inside, and is so private that we felt happy leaving doors open for our son and dog to roam independently. The quality of furniture, bedding and extra special additions is outstanding. Sitting on the balcony, watching the sun set as a fox scurried through the next field was truly memorable. The owners could have easily squashed another two buildings within the grounds but the feeling is that they want to give a quality experience not greedily make money. Fabulous barn conversion, we found it spotlessly clean with welcome pack much appreciated - and supplies still in their wrappings also welcomed in the current Covid circumstances. Well equipped kitchen and very nice to be able to bake whilst on holiday. Very comfy beds and we loved the Mira showers. Our dogs loved the garden and spent lots of time during running around safely whilst we enjoyed a glass of wine on the balcony enjoying the views. Lovely peaceful setting near the village, unfortunately not able to see the frescos in the church due to Covid restrictions so will just have to come back another time! Walked into Porthleven, and had many lovely walks around the coastal paths at Rinsey, a short drive away. Would recommend visiting Church cove beach and walking up to the nearby Marconi monument for lovely views towards Mullion cove and the pasties at the beach cafe at Poldhu cove en route! Marazion at sunset is a must and Gwithian Towans for huge beach and walks over the dunes. We had a great week and would highly recommend.

  • "We received a text message from the housekeeper advising that the cottage would not be ready until 3:30 (instead of 3:00 as advertised)."

This was not unreasonable as additional time in getting a property prepared to Covid proof standards is to be expected. After a 380 mile journey we were pleased to note that the property was as depicted by the Sykes website. However, it quickly became clear that the standard of cleanliness was far below the expected standards. Toilets were spotted with faeces, hair and urine. Mirrors were smeared. Interior windows smeared with grease (or maybe spit!). Crumbs were on the dining table and chairs. The kitchen; filthy hob, oven and grill. Dirty work tops. Kitchen cupboards and handles filthy. Fridge drawers engrained with food deposits. Dirty cutlery drawer and contents. Dirty crockery and greasy glasses. Pan drawer covered in grease with a dirty frying pan and utensil on the top and finally Disgusting washing up bowl (both interior and exterior filthy). Rather than contact the owners and/or Sykes who could only have requested the cleaner(s) to return and do a proper job whilst we sat around waiting for the issues to be addressed, my wife and I set about cleaning the kitchen ourselves. This necessitated the entire crockery, glassware and utensils going in the dishwasher and the purchase of additional anti-bacterial cleaning wipes. Some 2 to 3 hours later (after a 10 hour drive) and 4 dishwasher cycles within 24 hours, the kitchen approached something of the standard that other Sykes properties have provided (including this troubled year). The hob was cleaned 3 times during our stay but we were not prepared to tackle the oven or grill. Photographs have been and can be provided if required!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The owners would have welcomed the opportunity to set this straight during your stay so we are sorry to learn that you didn't report this during your holiday. On this occasion the cleaner had been compromised by the workload left by previous guests: a system has now been set in place to ensure this doesn't happen on future occasions. Property Owner

But, I need to say the cleanliness leaves a little bit to be desired. The ensiute shower doesn't drain, the windows are really dirty, and the window latches are all broken. The oven is really dirty and both times we have stayed we have found ourselves cleaning for a few hours to make it feel home. We have booked again, as we find this location amazing, so.hopefully some if not all if these issue will fixed.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at The Hayloft. We have spoken to the owner who was sorry to hear the property did not meet expectations on this occasion and has taken note of all points raised . New handles for the windows have been ordered, however there have been issues with the suppliers, we have been told they will be fitted in the next 2 days. Due to the bad weather we have faced in recent weeks, the window cleaner has fallen behind schedule, again this will be rectified at the earliest convenience. We will be meeting with our housekeeper to address the cleaning issues. Despite the points raised we are very pleased to see you will be returning to Neptune. Property Owner

About the location

BREAGE

Porthleven 2 miles ; Helston 3 miles ; Penzance 10 miles.

A peaceful, rural village located in between Helston and Penzance, Breage is home to the 12th century St Breaca church – and on Tregonning Hill, the highest point in the village, are the remains of an ancient settlement. During the 19th century, Breage was an important mining centre, producing considerable amounts of tin and copper. Today, the village has a small but welcoming community, a lovely pub, playing fields and a village hall. The much-loved harbour town of Porthleven is just a short drive away, with its various waterside inns and restaurants – and the glorious stretch of golden sand at Praa Sands beach is just 3 miles along the coast.
