  • "The lodge was in a quiet & pleasant location."

There were issues with cleanliness and maintenance ie dirty shelves with mouldy coffee in a caddy that was thick with grease etc I spent a lot of my time cleaning, I do not believe these things are down to the owner. Many pans not fit for purpose with buckled bottoms and flaking non stick. No washing up bowl or plug for the sink ( I did buy a plug but it was the wrong size) Outside balustrade was loose in places. I have taken photos to show areas I mention. Onsite facilities very tired looking ie swimming pool and tennis courts & clubhouse. Overall we enjoyed the space and apart from these things found it pleasant and reasonably comfortable to stay in I just think it was below Sykes normal standard.

  • "Beautiful setting."

With all the facilities in the lodge as per advert. Extremley clean. Black out blinds in bedrooms excellent. Full size fridge. Outdoor furniture was great and lovely bonus of out door sofa and table at rear of decked lodge. Lovely to catch the sun. Only thing i would say is the sofas perhaps need replacing as not very comforyable. We sunk down in the sofas and found it difficult to get back out. Which was funny sometimes. Other wise was a great lodge and will be back and would recommend.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

A superb lodge in a nice location. Double bed comfy but blocks wardrobe doors from opening so used adjacent Room. Didnt use the single beds. Super TV but previous guests had logged out of the owners Netflix and Prime accounts. Used iplayer instead. WiFi was great. Noticed the bathroom emergency window is difficult to open and one leaf of patio doors also needs attention. Just small issues and didnt affect our enjoyment. Definitely would stay again.

  • "The lodge was exactly as described!"

Everything was available for a comfortable stay! The lodge itself is perfect. I give that a 10/10 overall and it is in a great location to explore Looe and Polpero. Polpero is a darling little village! It is within the Killigarth manor holiday park and you pay just £30 to use the facilities. Although we paid to use the pool and tennis court, we only used these once as they are both badly in need of refurbishment. Unfortunately, that was a let down. I’d definitely visit Smugglers Shack again though!

  • "Lovely accommodation but as 6 adults we didn’t feel there was enough room to sit in the evening, there are 2x2 seater sofas and a chair so one was always sat on the floor."

The sofas are very uncomfortable as they are sunken and ‘well used’ could definitely do with new ones. Everything else was good, well equipped and very clean.

Dear Caroline Thank you so much for your feedback, we were unaware that the sofa was broken, I'm happy to confirm that it has now been fixed and is again really comfortable. Each year before the season begins, my husband and I spend 2 weeks at the lodge to refresh it in preparation for our coming season's guests, this year we also added blackout blinds to the 3 bedrooms for added comfort. Many thanks for your review. Property Owner

The holiday was great and the lodge was actually better than I thought it was going to be on previous experiences the site it’s on is really great and quite Their was only two very small problems and they were the fact that when you use the toaster the electric kept tripping but that wasn’t a problem because you could use the grill the other thing was that the we couldn’t get the cooker extract fan to work like I say they we’re only small problems that did not affect my stay but I just thought you could pass the information onto the owner Other than that i could not fault the lodge it was excellent and well looked after with everything you needed supplied to make your holiday enjoyable so much so we are considering coming back next year if it fits in with other projects we have on as it was so great and enjoyable and the lodge is awesome

Dear Ashley We so pleased to hear the you had a lovely holiday at Smugglers Shack. I'm happy to confirm that the toaster and extractor fan have been replaced thanks to you pointing this out to us. We hope to welcome you and your family back to Smugglers Shack soon Property Owner

  • "Lovely lodge clean ( although toliet brushes dirty) lots of space, disappointed that despite emailing re feather allergies their were still feather cushions!"

!!! ( one of our party had allergies so locked them away in wardrobe). The fridge needed to be defrosted. Lodge itself lovely. Great outside seating , bedding clean . Lots of clean table wear, although only one side of the toaster worked Very disappointed that was advertised as having a pool but when we rang to book it was told we were not allowed as the owner had not purchased the pass. On saying that the pool area looked tired and dirty so felt bit let down as did not meet the advertised facilities. The site itself was well maintained and clean. Plenty of bins and the lodges around seemed well cared for. Very quiet and relaxing. Good position for visiting local sites

  • "All as described and we had a really good week, made better by the great weather and Talland Bay Beach."

The cottage description should be updated to make clear that use of the facilities on site ie swimming pool will cost an extra £30 per week. A couple of minor points, the first sharp knife we used had a broken handle so we left it on the kitchen work surface, and there wasn’t any pepper in the pepper mill

  • "We loved our stay, and a very well equiped kitchen and layout of the whole lodge was very good, plenty of cupboards and wardrobes."

We couldn't use the bath or the shower in that bathroom, as we couldn't get any water. I cleaned the french windows, they were very dirty.

  • "The lodge was fantastic, super clean and location very quiet."

Attention to detail was excellent, the kitchen was really well stocked with cooking items. Having the walkway into Polperro was brilliant - the hill is VERY steep though and really tough going walking back! so not good for people with mobility issues but there are taxis available in Polperro. We walked the hill as felt we needed the exercise! A great base for visiting lots of places. The only very slight downside was a lack of dishwasher - we do really like to cook on holiday (requiring lots of pans and cooking utensils) which means lots of washing up! But it's only a very minor thing and wouldn't prevent us returning.

  • "Had a nice stay at Smugglers Shack last week."

The lodge is easy to find on a nice quiet edge of the park. It was very spacious, modern, nicely decorated and had some nice touches like the throws, cushions, lamps and candle holders. Making it a nice home from home and with the fire on in the lounge it was nice and cosy in the evenings. The tv was big and modern with Netflix and Amazon and my teenage son was able to set up his Xbox with ease! The kitchen was very well equipped and there was nothing I thought there should have been that wasn’t.. apart from forgetting to take my oven gloves as these are not provided and I didn’t read the small print! The Wi-fi was adequate and we appreciated the google smart speaker. The central hearing worked like a dream and the water pressure in the shower was very good. The only negative which I did read beforehand in other reviews was that the sofas and armchair really could do with new seat cushions. They were very low and flat and being as we spent quite a lot of down time reading and relaxing, felt we couldn’t sit for long periods as was so uncomfortable. We used the unused bed pillows to make it a bit more comfortable and I also resorted to sitting at the dining table most evenings. Really let’s down which was overall fantastic accommodation in a nice area. The walk into Polperro down a country lane beside the park didn’t take long but was very very steep. We visited Looe, Polperro, Plymouth, St Austell and the beach at Talland Bay that you can walk to from the park. The cafe at the beach was lovely. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I'm pleased to confirm that we have addressed your only point of improvement - the sofa cushions. In January 2022, as part of the winter refresh - all of the cushions on the sofas and chair have been replaced and are now super comfortable and bouncy giving plenty of support. We look forward to welcoming you back to Smuggler Shack sometime in the near future. Property Owner

Thank you for your helpful comments. We're happy to confirm that we've thoroughly addressed each of your points: The wifi quality by installing a higher grade receiver, this is now providing a robust and speedy performance. The cushions on the sofas and chair have been replaced Jan 2022 ready for the new season and are much more comfortable and bouncy. I've undertaken a top to bottom deep clean during the winter and my property manager will be checking for cobwebs on a weekly basis from now on. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. • "We had a great week at Smuggler’s Shack!"

The lodge is well equipped, clean and comfortable; perfect for a week away. Our only comment is about the curtains in the bedroom - these are not black out and so had us all awake bright and early each day. Bring eye masks or your own black out blind (there is one supplied but it is old and no longer has any suction).

Thank you for your review. I'm happy to confirm that we've put up a black out blind in the kingsize bedroom and provide a new children's blackout bind which can be used in either of the twin rooms. The suction caps need to be dampened slightly before sticking to the window. We so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a brilliant time."

The Lodge was very clean and as described. Nice little kitchen which had everything we needed for cooking meals, we were provided with enough towels and tea towels, toilet rolls etc. The sofas weren’t the most comfortable and the bath taps difficult to operate, but we did manage to bathe as well as shower. We were very comfortable and worth the money we paid, although glad we went that week as the week after had a sharp rise in price. Set in a Caravan Park which had a small shop fir supplies and a takeaway facility which was useful for our first evening. We would love to come back next year. Perfect accommodation for us and close to Polperro and Looe. Booking system was easy too! A very happy week (apart from the weather). Thank you!

  • "The freezer had not been defrosted for some time nd was icebound."

DrAws could not be opened. It was unuseable. The fridge had not been defrosted and absolutely stank of disinfectant ( Covid notwithstanding this was totally excessive)...but was useable after a day or so. The lockbox (old tin box) was unreliable. However, the most important issue was the hot water...basically there wasn’t any.

Thank you for your review, I'm sorry to hear that we freezer was iced up. This is now something that is addressed by my property manager on a weekly basis. Following your comments around the hot water, I'm very pleased to confirm that we installed a new combi boiler during 2021 which is providing an abundance of hot water with great pressure and keeps the lodge super warm and cosy. It was light and comfortable and clean and tidy. When we had a rainy spell, it was no hardship to be indoors for half a day. We used the swimming pool which worked very well even though restrictions were in place. We had two children with us, aged 6 and 11, and they enjoyed the pool and play area.
