  • "Location, location, location!"

We had a fabulous week at Cranberry - the location is amazing, a few minutes from all the amenities of Bude town centre, and a few minutes further gets you to the wonderful Summerleaze beach! The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay away from home. Comfy beds, all the kitchen facilities you need, enough space, secure garden for our dogs. Go out the back gate to the Co-op or the golf course for a morning dog walk - ideal! The owners communication was great and he even has recently purchased a travel cot which was fantastic for our 17 month old son. There is also a highchair and booster seat available. Thank you - we will be back!

  • "Our general holiday was a wonderful week away, and Bude was a perfect place for our first family holiday with our 6 month old and nervous dog."

Only downside is the pubs/bars in bude are very anti children and only one pub would allow us to take our baby in for a drink, it was 5pm! The house on first look was lovely and a very good size for us. Unfortunately the lack of communication with the owner was a problem. We messaged a few days prior to our holiday, asking if a travel cot was available at the property, as we were travelling from Norfolk and wanted to pack as little as possible to fit a baby and greyhound in the car! On response, the owner stated that the travel cot had disappeared. The first bedroom I go to (single room) I find a travel cot between the bed and window, so we did not need to play tetris in the car after all. The house was clean and tidy and had all the basics to have a week there. The lack of personal touches was a shame, a welcome pack would have been a nice touch, with information about the area, the house and numbers for any emergencies, maybe a pint of milk in the fridge, especially when they know you've come 8 hours! One afternoon, baby was having a nap on me, and my partner was on the other sofa, having a little shut eye, when I open mine, i see a gentleman standing in the front garden looking into the property. I'm shocked and unsure what to do. My partner wakes up and I give him baby, as I go through to the kitchen, the gentleman was then coming past the kitchen window in the garden and back down the side path. I believe this was the owner, but a little warning about stopping by the property would have been nice. Did make me feel quite uncomfortable for the rest of the day. We had an amazing holiday, even with it raining most days. However, I would put this experience down to the town of Bude and being with my family, not the property. It has so much potential, if the correct love and attention was made to the property. The positive part of the property was the location, super close to everything and we were able to the dog out of the back gate and straight onto the golf course for walks.

House was lovely. Location was great. So much so we only ventured away from Bude for 1 day. Our only disappointment was the grass, looked like it hadn’t been cut for some weeks. Which was a shame. But we would return.

Also, it would be nice if back gate locked and unlocked more easily, as even the men found it difficult.

  • "Great house and location."

Important things were clean, bedding, bathroom etc. unfortunately plates had been put away dirty, house could do with a deep clean. Gardens were a mess although gardener did come around whilst we were sitting in the garden so we asked him to come back at a later date. In my opinion the grass should’ve been cut on the Saturday before we arrived as the weather was good and we couldn’t get in until 5, again a good sweep outside and cleaning the door would make all the difference. The house looked very tired and needs some TLC. It was very well equipped and everything was there that you needed, a welcome pack would’ve been a nice touch. After saying all this we had a great holiday and the location is great. We would go back there.

The kitchen is very well equipped. House was spotless when we arrived, and lovely and warm as heating had been put on. Shower was great and beds very comfortable. Enclosed garden was secure for our dogs, it was lovely to be able to bring them both on holiday with us. The front door did stick a little on opening and some of the internal doors were difficult/ noisy to close but this did not affect our holiday. It would have been useful to have a long handled brush and dustpan to sweep floors. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • "Have used Sykes for many years and have booked numerous properties over the years and this has been the worst we have come across unfortunately."

Although in a central area with easy access to shops etc the area is not pleasant - there were 3 police cars attending the next door property one of the mornings we were there! Access to the property is poor - using the drive for parking the car is very tight and the hedge needs cutting back. The front door sticks and is difficult to open. The same with the back door which needs a good clean from the outside! Some of the problems we had during our stay: 1. Main light in lounge not working - probably light bulb needs changing - we bumped into owner and informed him of this (and other things) and he said he can't do anything if no-one tells him (nothing was done to rectify problems while we were there for rest of week after informing owner) so we left a written note when we left. The fire in the lounge not working. Lounge uncomfortable and unwelcoming - plain white walls ceiling doors etc - no mirrors pictures etc no colour. Very strong smell of bleach through the whole house for the first few days. 2. One of kitchen chairs broken - bin lid in kitchen didn't close properly so needed weight on it to keep it closed - rear light in kitchen didn't work and light switch 'sizzled' when switched on 3 Pull cord in downstairs toilet is dirty 4. Bathroom window above sink wouldn't open 5. Constant unknown odour in back bedroom which remained even if window opened or spray used 6. No information details provided - which rubbish goes into which bin - there are 4 bins! When is collection day - details of local dr etc - recommended places to eat would be helpful. 7. No welcome pack - after a long drive would be nice to be provided milk and maybe a biscuit or similar 8. Why charge for 7 days when 1 day is virtually written off - can't arrive before 5pm and have to leave by 10am - without notice someone came on Sunday morning to cut grass at front and rear - why couldn't this be done between 10 am and 5 pm on the Saturday so as not to disturb Although Property was very clean it is very tired and needs a good revamp

  • "Great stay in Bude."

This property is ideally located for Bude town and beaches which are all in walking distance. The owners have thought of everything that you might need in the kitchen and even provide throws in the lounge in case you are a little chilly in the evening. One criticism is that the hedge beside the driveway needs to be cut right back as it makes an already narrow space unnecessarily narrower for larger cars

Also couldn't find any info on recycling/bin collection- had to lift the liners out of the bins to determine what went where (no obvious glass recycling, either?). Other than that - house was comfy and very convenient location for beaches/shops/restaurants.

  • "The house was lovely and in a fantastic location."

Plenty of kitchenware and all the crockery we could possibly want. The garden was a brilliant sun trap and a lovely spot for evening meals and drinks. The property was really clean and well presented throughout, and being able to nip out of the back gate and be in Co-Op within a minute was so convenient. There were only 2 things that we think could have been better. Firstly, there was no information folder or leaflet for the property, something most self catering properties do provide. This meant we had no instructions on how to sort the bed linen, recycling or the like. We'd advise putting a small instruction folder together as this would be a huge help. The other thing that could be improved is the TV - if the TV provided was a smart TV then we could have cast our own streaming services to it which would have helped entertain the younger members of our party. These are really minor issues though - overall we thought the property was excellent!

It has a safe and secure garden for the dog which we loved. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. However the house in our opinion is looking tired and needs some money spending on it especially decorating the inside and the garden outside. The cleaners could perhaps do a better job as cleaning the front windows to remove dog marks with a dirty cloth won’t ack it neither will leaving hair in the bathroom sink or marks in the bath. These are only a few things and would in no way stop us from booking the property again in the future.

  • "Location was amazing, perfect for access to the beach and Bude town itself."

Accommodation was clean and perfect for a weeks stay with two teenagers! Having amazing weather helped. In terms of anything that could improve the stay there are a few minor things in terms of practicalities. - having a side gate that was lockable, plus the gate at the end of the rear garden with a lock accessible from the car park would be great. - The shower drainage was very poor, as was the drainage from the washing machine which then pumped water up through the kitchen sink - if the garage was available as a usable space for either parking another car or storage of wetsuits/surf boards overnight. However, these are minor issues as overall we had an amazing time. House was really comfortable and felt like a home away from home rather than a Holiday home.

  • "We asked for extra pillows as there were only one each but didn't get them,so had to buy some ."

The bed in the front bedroom was really uncomfortable.,not enough storage in all bedrooms . There was no carpet on the stairs . A light is needed in the back garden. The owner was told about a problem with the upstairs toilet and asked if the top came off and was told that we are not plumbers and would like him to get it fixed .Also the cleaner would not come in and change the bedding and clean which we were told that she would be doing in the middle so we had to do it ourselves. Also each time we contacted the owner he didn't get back to us so we had to keep ringing him .

Thank you for your feedback. The owner thought there were 2 pillows each so is sorry if this was not the case and will ensure they are checked. They have not had any previous issues reported before about the beds or a lack of storage but is sorry if the bed was not to your liking. The owner did come to address the toilet issue that evening and had a plumber there the next day so acted as quickly as he could to get it fixed. The cleaner also dropped off fresh and linen and towels after your first week and took away the used items. Not many cleaners are prepared to enter a property during someone's stay at present due to concerns around Covid. I am sorry for any inconvenience but we would not pressure a cleaner to enter a property for this. The owner said there is a light over the side door. He also answered all your calls but had trouble reaching the cleaner at first so did not call you bask as there was no update. We are sorry if the property did not meet your expectations but do hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

  • "After reading some previous reviews, this holiday cottage completely exceeded my expectations."

Clearly the owners have worked hard to provide an extremely comfortable holiday property. Important things: a great modern bathroom with an excellent power shower, ultra comfortable bed with really good quality bedding, large fluffy towels, good internet connection, and a secure garden for our dogs. All the furniture in the property is clearly of a very good quality and I appreciated the throws having been provided for the dogs in order to protect the sofas. The kitchen was well equipped with a large fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The house is ideally situated in the centre of Bude (but also very quiet). It backs onto the car park of the Coop, with a rear gate in the garden - perfect if you just want to pop out quickly for that pint of milk or bottle of wine. All the shops and restaurants are literally within a minute of two walking distance. The rear of the property also leads directly onto a public footpath across the golf course, so perfect for dog walking. The house was spotlessly clean throughout - not a trace of web or dust. Just two things I would mention, yes, the parking is tight and anyone with a 4x4 is going to struggle - I have a Nissan Qashqai and I had to have my wits about me! Also the provision of a full length mirror would be an excellent extra touch. I would absolutely not hesitate to book this property again.

Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
