  • "Our third stay at lovely Beach Cottage, first time since refurbishment."

It has been done well but agree with the comments about the sofa, it is low and slopes forward making it uncomfortable to sit on. I think a good solution would be to put two comfy chairs in the window as that is where we want to sit watching the boats go out if we can’t be outside, there is enough space. A mirror above the basin is needed. It is a fantastic place and we will come back. Enjoyed meals at the pub and Old Cellars.

Thanks for your excellent feedback. We have arranged to have the sofa base reworked and upholstered to eliminate the slope you refer to. There is a mobile mirror in the bathroom, we have also arranged to install a wall mounted mirror over the coming weeks. Property Owner

  • "Beach cottage is a wonderful property with amazing views."

We spent hours just looking out to sea. From the emerald blue sea on sunny days to a stormy grey sea on wet and windy days. We also had energetic coastal walks and sat with locals and fellow tourist listening to sea shanties in the local Inn. Just reflecting on the holiday puts a smile on my face. We would love to return next year

  • "This is an outstanding property (the previous review is frankly inexplicable)."

The situation is stunning but so is the cottage and despite our staying toward the end of the season it was pristine. We never tired of the view from the sitting room and patio, the bathroom was excellent with an outstanding shower and a brilliantly effective heater for cool mornings. The kitchen was equipped with everything we could have wanted (and we appreciated the teabags, fresh milk, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and so on). It's true that the sofa cushions need daily turning and the sofa itself is a little low but, aged 72 and 69, we had no trouble with it and the bed was outstandingly comfortable ( we may buy a similar mattress). It's a thoroughly high quality property. One tip: we took along a couple of comfortable reclining garden chairs and that helped us enjoy the patio even more.

  • "This property is mediochre accommodation in an outstanding location."

Parking , even to unload, is tricky with very little space available. There are some fundamental issues which make it very uncomfortable. The floor in the bedroom is on a slope so the bed slopes meaning you roll downhill. The mattress is very soft and the bedframe has minimal support resulting in a very uncomfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and the shower good but there is only a little shaving mirror. There is a bigger mirror stored at the end of the hanging unit in the bedroom but it is difficult to get out and there is no room to stand it once out. There were brown marks on the towels and sheet (possibly rust) and a lot of dust under the bed, where things like the ironing board are stored, so this was dusty. The kitchen was missing some basic items, like a vegetable peeler and a grater. In the living room there was a bit of clutter which, in a small space with not many surfaces, just gets in the way. The floor of the living room is also on quite a slope so it is really uncomfortable to sit on the sofa as you slide off the seats. The out side area is shabby with old furniture and dead /dying plants and weeds in pots. It really felt like staying in a caravan, but with the price tag of something more luxurious. Not great value for money. Also to note, the property is up for sale which may affect future bookings.

Thanks for your feedback We're sorry your view of the property didn't correlate with the numerous positive reviews received over many years. The property underwent a full refurbishment just over 12 months ago, the floors are level throughout and the furniture is pristine and new (including Loaf sofa and Simba mattress) The property and furniture within the property are exactly as noted in the images / detailed description. Access to the property is also well noted within the particulars. We do advise that some elements of the property are unsuitable for elderly guests which appears to have been the issue here. We have passed your feedback regarding dust, towels and plant maintenance to the housekeeping team who will ensure this issue does not reoccur. The property continues to be well loved and cared for by a team that take great pride in everything they do. Property Owner

  • "This was an enchanting, compact cottage, well-laid out and mostly equipped (although I couldn't find a cheese grater and it has no washing machine)."

At first, I didn't think it had a toaster, but I found it on day two in a cupboard. The view is unparalleled, and the bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The village is picture-postcard perfect, and the three places to get food or eat are on the doorstep and serve good food. The local shop is very limited, so don't rely on it for your provisions. We loved our stay in Beach Cottage, which was immaculate with high-quality white goods, but there are a few things that could be improved: there's nowhere nice to curl up with a book as the sofa is very uncomfortable—you always feel like you're going to slide off it; the outside furniture looks better than it feels and is tethered (probably to stop it blowing away) in a way that makes it a tripping hazard. It also stops it from easily being moved around to follow the sun; there is no way we could lie outside (some foldable loungers would be welcome); a mirror over the basin in the bathroom would be nice; a fan in the bedroom would help on the hotter nights; and, as a final touch, some flowering plants in the pots would make the outside much more charming. But these are all minor and shouldn't put anyone off staying there, if only for the views!

  • "Perfect, Perfect!"

Feel like we've been Hugged by the Cadgwith Hospitality of People & experienced a wonderful Cornish Working Fishing Village at its best. To have the comfort of the cottage to view this all from whilst relaxing on the terrace was a real treat. On arrival, after the long journey, my husband sat on the settee & fell asleep. On waking, told me it was the most comfortable sofa to rest on! Likewise, the Bed too! The only thing that spoilt our stay was the holiday makers in the next cottage, having no control of their dog, that barked at us & the seagulls, & ran onto our terrace, as it was not on a lead. We couldn't relax whilst the dog & owners were there. We had to build a barrier with the table & chairs to stop the dog jumping over & barking. The quieter times we really enjoyed. Thank you very much. Christine.

  • "The property was great, however a couple of things to point out; Parking permit: wasn’t one there (due to previous occupants miss laying it apparently)but we were told by phone the house keeper would bring one to us but never got it."

The sofa looked gorgeous but unfortunately it’s really not comfortable, cushions just slop down and makes it uncomfortable to sit on for longer than an hour! Fridge door, when you open it, it seems to clash with the end panel, minor I know but just pointing it out!

Thankyou for your feedback and we're really glad that you found the property great. We are so sorry that you didn't receive the correct message regarding the car parking permit. The permit has been returned directly to Beach Cottage by the previous guests however you should have received a message from Sykes stating that a message on your windscreen would suffice during the interim period. The sofa has had new inserts recently and the seat cushions do need plumping up from time to time as per the Loaf sofa guidelines which are set out in the guest booklet. Property Owner

Great location for relaxing by the sea and exploring the local area. Highly recommend staying at this property. The problem we found was that the sofa triggered my partners allergies (feathers?) and it was also a little too low. Thanks for a great stay

Thanks for your wonderful feedback, we’re sorry to hear about your partner’s allergies, the sofa is filled with duck down. We have just increased the height of the sofa by installing new (loaf) legs which should remedy the height issue moving forward. Property Owner

  • "The cottage, which is big enough for a couple, the location and the facilities are all superb and the views are spectacular."

The only minor issue was with the sofa which was not too comfortable. You will also need to be fairly fit as the road up to the car park is very steep (there is a sligtly shorter footpath but it gets very muddy if it rains). That said, I would not hesitate to recommend it and have already booked up again for next year.

Thanks for your excellent feedback, look forward to seeing you again next year Property Owner

  • "We have just been and stayed at Beach Cottage, we are probably a little older than the average clients being 82 and 84 so the sea has to come to use, rather than us going to the sea."

On the plus side this was a wonderful place to stay and have a weeks holiday, the views are tremendous from the lounge window overlooking the sea and watching the fishing boats come and go, the bed was comfortable and the shower was perfect for the older person. .On the downside the sofa as mentioned in many reviews as a real pain, it may be a Loaf expensive sofa but it'e far to low to get out of, please put it up on some blocks to make it higher therefore making it easier to get up from. We gave up sitting on it and just sat on the dining chairs instead. We were taken in by this photo (As others too have seem to have been!) as we had the grandchildren down to see us as they live in Cornwall and thought that there would be enough chairs for everyone, (We only wanted five chairs) not so. One more thing , we arrived at the property feeling excited and ready for our holiday, standing at the front door with the key code all ready to open the key box, it states it's one the right of the light blue front door, no it's not, its on the left side of the door. Hope that this helps other people thinking about this lovely cottage Andrew and June

Thank you for your feedback, really glad you enjoyed the stay. We have amended the listing to note the table and chairs you reference are not part of Beach Cottage we have also amended the location of the key safe. The sofa has just been kitted out with new comfortable inserts, the height is really down to personal preference. Property Owner

The settee was far too low and by design was uncomfortable. We had a problem with the Wi-Fi mainly because we did not expect to have to switch the router on at the mains. Positionally perfect and very well equipped.

Thanks for your excellent feedback, the sofa will receive a new set of inserts at the end of September and we have asked the housekeeping team to ensure the Wi-Fi router is on before arrival. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little gem for a relaxing time away with fantastic views ."

The owner does need to listen to the feedback about the sofa …. Change it !! it’s so uncomfortable and low and let’s the experience down . Shame the chairs and table is chained up .abit of a pain to not trip up when getting up . Also the picture in the photos of the property with the front door is misleading as we thought the table and loungers where with our property but they are next doors

Thanks for your excellent feedback. All feedback is acted upon promptly to ensure continues improvement. As noted in an earlier response ‘ We have ordered additional sofa inserts which should be installed within the next few weeks’ The property is next to the sea and can be quite windy from time to time which is why the patio table is connected by plastic wires. I’m sorry you misinterpreted the photographs, the properties patio can be clearly seen through the patio windows. Property Owner

Quaint yet modern. Everything we needed, thank you. If I were adding anything to the description, I might mention the v poor phone signal coverage outside the cottage - I had planned to loh on and remind myself of the key box code, but I couldn't. Tiny but maybe useful point? But oh, such a pretty place.

  • "I'm rather loath to leave a great review as selfishly I don't want others to find out about this gem of a place!"

This really was a wonderful little place to stay in an amazing location. The locals were all really friendly, wonderful little local inn, BBQ on the beach, crab shop next door, swimming right outside, coastal path walks from the door - what more could you want? I'm astonished that others have left reviews about the lack of Sky TV - I can only assume they didn't see the amazing view outside the huge patio doors... I will be returning at some point, but I'll be staying for two weeks as it's just such a wonderful relaxing place to be. It is worth people knowing that Cadgwith is a working traditional fishing village and that half the building this property is in is still a fisherman's loft, so depending on the tide times, you may be woken by the fishermen going out very early - this all adds to the charm of the place. I travelled by public transport and this is entirely doable (and really, seeing the cars diving into the hedges on the narrow roads, recommended!). It would be worth when sending location details to include directions for those coming from the bus (at Ruan Minor). All in all, a fabulous stay - thank-you.

Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! We will amend the directions as you recommend. Property Owner

  • "We thought the location and cottage was fabulous."

Luckily we didn't have to use the car park as there was a space outside to use, the walk to the car park was quite a long distance so we are pleased not to have had to do that. Whilst we appreciate that the sofa is a Loaf and good quality, we did find it a little uncomfortable to sit on for a while as the big seat cushions moved forward, they are quite heavy to adjust too. We used the TV, but found that any Sky station we wanted to see said not subscribed, in fact we could only find Sky news to watch. But we did enjoy our stay and felt very relaxed at the end of our holiday

Thanks for your great feedback. We’re sorry the sofa didn’t suit your taste, we have introduced additional cushions to give extra comfort when required. The TV has access to all the usual terrestrial channels but does not give access to the likes of sky sport or sky cinema. Property Owner

  • "This is the most beautiful contemporary property where we have just had one of our most restful, pleasurable holidays."

The location is stunning as is the property. We would certainly return. My only negative comments to the owner would be 1) the settee looks good but is so uncomfortable the floor was a better option. 2) Saying the area is hilly is not enough to describe the difficult access to the door for someone with mobility problems.

Thank you for your excellent feedback. We’re sorry that the sofa didn’t suit your taste, it is however a brand new Loaf product which is renowned for comfort and luxury. The duck down cushions do need plumping up from time to time to maximise comfort. There is a flat level access to the property, Cadgwith itself is a hilly cove as described in the listing. Quintessentially Cornish, its narrow streets are lined with former pilchard cellars, higgledy piggledy whitewashed cottages and charming smugglers’ inns. Time here is spent walking the coastal footpath, building sandcastles on the beach and fishing the waters for mackerel.
