  • "Kids say they liked the views, they liked the cute decorations and pictures, it was comfy, Netflix worked, they liked the pool and used it everyday."

They didn't like the fan in the bathroom going off for ages, there was something spilt on the wall in their room and one bed felt wet. Bedrooms felt a little damp. Couldn't find the instruction booklet for washer/dryer. Shower room toilet cistern water continues if flushed intermittently. Lounge rug was rucked so we lifted the anti-slip net which seemed to be the issue. Apart from these minor issues we very much enjoyed our stay.

  • "What a lovely lodge, it was very warm."

The shower over bath was either extremely hot or extremely cold so just used the other shower which was great. There was no toilet roll holders in either bathrooms but pictured. I would suggest a dark rug by front door especially as grass was strimmed 3 days we were there and left around lodge. Pool was clean, not very deep though. Staff friendly on site. Overall good lodge for 3 star stay.

  • "Holiday property was fairly cleaned unfortunately the wifi didn't work but wasn't a major problem ."

Lots of leave on the balcony can do with a bit of sweeping. Overall we were satisfied with our holiday accommodation...however the shared swimming pool was a disaster which ruined our holiday. There was a large punjabi family of 15 running wild in the pool and staff sitting there didn't intervene and all swimmers had to leave because of them. No one rinsed themselves before entering the pool which wasn't hygienic.

We are sorry to hear the wifi was not working for your stay, had we been notified of this we would have most certainly looked into this for you. Property Owner

  • "Place was nice but need a lot of improvement such as: -Upgraded boiler which doesn’t finish hot water after 2 people shower."

This was a huge problem with 6 people living there. -bedroom opposite/Next-door the double room had a leak from the top of the window coming into the bedroom. Had to use a towel so it doesn’t wet the floor or bed. The bathrooms were quite dirty, lifting toilet lid had dirty stain. Bed linen was as dirty double bedroom linen had yellow stains and the bedroom next door, on one of the beds had a massive yellow stain on the mattress which showed through the bed sheets. -duvets are quite old needs new. - place is quite dusty had to dust when arrived due to children. - tv was not working, kept freezing and glitching. Would suggest to put Sky or something with channels that work. Plates and utensils some was dirty that we had to re wash them. -bedroom near main entrance ceiling would move when someone would be walking upstairs. -Mattresses was quite uncomfortable -brai stand was very dirty had wet tissue and disgusting things inside showing it hadn’t been cleaned at all. Would be ideal to put them inside in a rainy season than leave them outside.

Thank you for your review. There would unfortunately never be enough hot water for six consecutive showers but no guests have ever complained about this before. Some guests leave the immersion heater on all the time which is not recommended, a couple of half hour boosts per day should give enough hot water for everyday use. In any event a plumber was called out and replaced the thermostat in the immersion tank on Christmas eve evening. Mattresses are notoriously difficult and impossible to please everyone. The duvets are replaced regularly and are definitely not old. We will have the seal of the window checked for a leak. We are very surprised by the issues raised about cleanliness. The property was fully checked beforehand and was spotless. Property Owner

A real gem. The only thing I would say is the check out time of 9am is a little early, especially as we are asked to strip beds ect, the holiday ends with a busy early morning.

On arriving to the property it was completely spotless. The lodge is well presented, the carpets look brand new and it has been well maintained with what look like quite a fresh coating of paint. It was also equipped with everything you would need for a stay. The lodge is located perfectly, even though many families can be seen on the site, the site is very quiet and peaceful. Overall, the lodge was 10 out of 10, spotless, well maintained and looked after property in a perfect location

Generally very good but Cleanliness let it down sheets felt damp, and the whole lower floor smelled damp, mould in the bathrooms as the extractors weren't working, the balcony was full of spiders webs and generally very dirty, the heating/water were very good, it's a shame really, because with a bit of TLC lodge 44 could be a really nice place to stay

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear of the issues you encountered during your visit to Valley Lodge 44, all of which could have been rectified had we been notified during your stay. We used the swimming pool, teenagers loved this. Unfortunately we could not use the games room. We made use of the outside areas by playing rounders. The site was lovely, the restaurant food was really good. We did some many activities nearby, aqua park, water park, zip line and lots more. Overall we had a fantastic family week away. Would highly recommend and happily return.

  • "The lodge itself is spacious and very well equipped, with lots of added extras, however, it smelt very very damp downstairs."

The smell hit you as soon as you opened the front door. Also, I feel, the description of access is very misleading. There isn't any vehicular access to the property and to get to the lodge from the car parking you have to walk quite a distance, including up some steps (which for my Dad who has knee issues was quite difficult and caused him great pain). Obviously if we had know how difficult the access was we wouldn't have booked that particular property.

Thank you for your feedback, I can assure you we take all comments seriously and follow up as necessary. We are disappointed that on arrival there was a smell, this has been investigated although the smell had dispersed on inspection. It is important to keep properties ventilated and we will add a note to ask guests to do so during their stay when possible. The access from the car park consists of a short walk and some steps although this can be avoided. A guest with mobility problems can be dropped off nearer the property where there would be no steps and a short 20 metre (approx) walk to the property. Property Owner

  • "Disappointed with overall cleaniness."

TV / DVD wasn't working but maintenance came up with a replacement. However this should have been dealt with before our arrival since the owner was aware of the problem. Silly things like no batteries in the kitchen clock, overflow on shower WC needed attention, two socket points didn't work and upon arrival the lodge smelt musky

Thank you for letting us know that the Lodge needed attention. We are happy to confirm that the new extractor in the bathroom and recent hot weather have addressed any damp smell. We’ve also talked to our housekeeping team about general cleanliness. Batteries and power points have been checked and a number of improvements have been made. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Lodge for another excellent holiday. Property Owner

My grandchildren enjoyed being able to have have a wander safely. We had a good time and it was relaxing.

Disappointed that there was no dishwasher and the showers were just about ok. This was too overpriced even for half term. More ideas of what to do would have been useful. Parking was tricky at times. Double bed rock hard and sheets uncomfortable. However, it just met our expectation as it was clean and presented well overall. About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
