The lodge is very well equipped however requires some me TLC the smoke alarm was beeping on entering the property and the bath panel is hanging off in the bathroom I called the number provided and left a message for someone to call me back or pop along and sort and nobody contacted me we had to take the smoke alarm down also the property was freezing cold as the heating was off and it took ages to warm up perhaps putting the heating on in readiness for guests would be helpful, there is no welcome pack with instructions on how to use things this made it difficult when trying to find how to use the heating, we couldn’t get the TV to work apart from 1 channel this was probably down to the weather, these were only small issues they didn’t detract from the enjoyment of our stay - I always book with Sykes and will continue to do so, but attention to detail is required

Hi, and thanks for this feedback. I'm sorry that there were some issues. The lodge should have been checked and made ready by the housekeeper, including putting the heating on and providing a welcome pack. they should also be available by phone during your stay and I dont know what has happened on this occasion. I have contacted them this morning and passed on your comments. I've asked them to look at the issues you have raised. The tv is a smart tv so Netflix, IPlayer etc should be available via the Internet as I know the tv signal is temperament down there. I do apologise again but I'm also pleased that overall you had a good break and were otherwise happy with the lodge. Stephen Property Owner

The property

This villa-style accommodation at Tamar Valley Resort in Callington is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The on-site facilities include indoor & outdoor heated swimming pools, bar, shop & reception.

Arranged in small clusters along the valley stream, these typical lodge-style family holiday homes are arranged over two floors with upstairs and downstairs terraces to enjoy the outside space.

The ground floor has a double and two twin bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The first floor has a sunny and bright sitting room with dining area and patio doors to the decked balcony with rural views and garden furniture, plus kitchen.

There is a terrace accessed from the master bedroom, again overlooking the valley with table and chairs for alfresco dining.

The communal grounds are well maintained and are ideal for children to play ball games.

This retreat is well placed for guests looking to explore both Cornwall and Devon with some fantastic local attractions nearby.

Within a short drive is the National Trust property, Cotehele, a Tudor house and valley garden estate set above the River Tamar.

A little further afield you can visit the glorious sandy beach at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs.

Equally accessible are Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor National Park with undulating moorlands and a myriad of historic sites and monuments - a rambler's dream.

Valley Lodge 44 makes a comfy retreat for holiday happiness.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
