  • "Kind of made a mistake booking, did not read reviews accurately first then when I tried to cancel it I realised you lose the 200£ deposit."

The location is good- Cambourne itself isn’t nice, but it is really close to hayle st Ives parran porth and Newquay. The hot tub is fab and the outside bit is nice. The place is clean, but as stated it is very very small. I have multiple bruises from the “stair case” I’m 5ft 6 and 12 stone and if your much bigger you would struggle to get up and down them I think. You can’t really chill out in the evening times unless you go and lay in the bed. I know it’s small, but would be so much better to have a small corner comfy sofa made or something where you can relax rather than just sitting on the two chairs. We purchased food for the first night and as we went to cook it the oven didn’t work it kept tripping the electric every time we turned it on therefore we had to throw the food we had bought. We did contact Sykes but only got a response the day we were leaving. Also would have been nice to be able to put the heating on at night especially to dry wet clothes as our clothes got wet from rain. We still had a good holiday, but I wouldn’t stay again and wouldn’t book with Sykes.

Thank you for your feedback, we have taken this on board, we were unaware of the issue with the oven, however we will look into this. We are are glad you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

The heating was left on after trying to contact someone to turn it off as there was no were within the snug to be able to we left after 2 days as it was unbearable to stay in such a small place on the hottest days of the summer with the heating on full ruined our honeymoon asked for a part refund and was told they left a tiny fan and because I’d put it back in the box said we hadn’t used it

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, it is unfortunate that you arrived on during the hottest few days in August, as soon as we were made aware, the heating was checked and turned off. With best wishes. Property Owner

. the only down side that so many have said and I was hoping would have been rectified was the umbrella for the hot tub…… the garden is very overlooked and a umbrella would have helped for us to feel more comfortable but we were on honeymoon and the hot tub was another reason we booked the snug so made the best of it and still used it……

  • "Everything was fine but the parking situation with the current guests who share the driveway was a bit annoying."

Both guests would park awkwardly leaving me blocked in or having to wait until they left before I could leave. On my final morning I was then woken up to move my car at 7am as I had blocked them in having been blocked in all week. I wasn’t really happy with this as it could’ve been resolved if they simply made use of the full driveway. If you could feedback to future guests to park appropriately this would’ve been avoided.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We weren't aware that you experienced these issues during your stay, please accept our apologies. We will make sure that other guests are informed that they should park appropriately in future. Property Owner

  • "The place it’s self, I can not fault, was right location for me to travel about & I did some miles in 1 week."

Lovely welcome pack. Hot tub was the deal breaker for me after a days out in Cornwall to come back & relax & unwind, a bit more privacy would have been nice. Did get a little chilly on a few nights & could have done with the heating coming on but couldn’t find a thermostat to make it work. The one issue is the tv signal, tv upstairs kept freezing and to get to the plug to reset it was difficult. Bed super comfy. Decor lovely. Maybe a fresh lick of paint but an amazing & lovely place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay overall. The Snug has recently been decorated throughout and we will check/amend the heating schedule to keep it warm and cosy. We will also investigate the TV signal. Property Owner

Very very very small property. Apart from it being tiny it was clean, and it fit it's description.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your stay at The Snug. The description does emphasise the size of the property and we have ensured extra hooks have been made available to hang clothing/towels etc. Property Owner

  • "Private hot tub is a joke with 9 windows overlooking it in a terraced back yard."

Parasol to make it private was broken and has been since Oct 22 according to other reviews. The hot tub was one of the main reasons we booked the Snug, we were very disappointed to find it so overlooked, we felt very much on show. The pictures make it look as though it is not overlooked at all. Also you cannot use the hot tub after 10pm due to noise restrictions, this was not mentioned when we reviewed the Snug to book. There is nowhere to hang wet swimming costumes when you come out of the hot tub, or coats. This could be easily sorted with a coat rack next to the bathroom door. Advertised as a self catering apartment, very difficult when the so called fridge is a drinks chiller which struggled to keep drinks cool let alone milk, butter or any other food. We had to eat out everyday which adds significantly to the cost of a holiday. This could easily be rectified by putting a small fridge under the stairs. Fire alarm went off due to people in another flat burning food, tried to ring emergency contact number to have the fire alarm turned off, only to find the phone number was incorrect, which was quite stressful and inconvenient. We rang the daytime office number twice to complain about these problems, and twice we were promised a phone call back which never happened. We came home a day early as we couldn't stay there any longer. This was our honeymoon and our only time away this year totally ruined by the Snug being misrepresented and the photo's being misleading. I would like our money back or at least part of it as we feel robbed of a holiday. I would not book through Sykes Cottages again.

  • "Unfortunately, the hot tub didn't work from day one of my arrivals."

I contacted the owner at the email address provided but didn't get a response, so contact Sykes and they managed to sort it out 2 days before I was due to leave, which would have only left me with 1 day of being able to use it as it takes 24 hours to heat up. The Snug itself was cute - very very small, and not really suitable for anyone tall or a bit larger (due to the very narrow spiral staircase). The kitchen/lounge had a little bench which was not comfortable to sit on so I ended up staying in the bedroom area during my stay. As the bedroom was in the 'attic' area I had to crouch to get on the bed as the wall was very narrow. I'd recommend this place for a very short stay as it's not somewhere where you can get fully comfortable. The garden area is very big and secure if you bring your dog. Also if the hot tub was usable during my stay - there isn't any privacy due to the umbrella being broken.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about the various issues you encountered during your stay. The email address used to report the issue with the hot tub issue was for a part time member of staff, which is why a response was delayed. The welcome information pack provided has a 24 hour phone number for any housekeeping and maintenance issues. As soon as Sykes made us aware of the issue, the hot tub was repaired within 24 hours and compensation was provided. I can confirm that the umbrella has also been repaired. Following on from your feedback we have now replaced the furniture in the living room. Two armchairs and a dining table have been provided, which we hope will create the perfect balance between comfort and effective use of the space. The property photos on the advert will be updated. As all issues are being addressed we hope this would not deter you from visiting again. Property Owner

Also the fact it was my partners birthday and we were unable to chill a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate It also states there is a washing machine which is untrue There is no where to sit and eat any dinner unless your happy to sit outside in the freezing cold and rain to eat dinner Overall our little holiday was the worst I have ever had due to the amount of stress this caused to us and our family, thank god we had a camper van to chill in the day time so we could relax as a family, the holiday has cist way more than we would have liked due to us having to eat out all the time and also paying to launder our clothes in a local laundrette, so if your thinking of booking the snug I wouldn't Sadly there wasn't any bad reviews when we booked this and hoped for a lovely holiday

Thank you for your feedback. As in previous responses we are very much aware the snug is a small space and we have done our best to provide facilities and information before booking this unit. Our description and photographs are a true resemblance of the property. CCTV cameras are fitted for the safety of our guests and are not manned 24/7. Pillows and duvets are being replaced for The Snug and mattresses are being reviewed in line with previous feedback. We apologise for incorrectly advertising The Snug had a washing machine and hope the good will gesture helped with the cost of having to use the launderette. Following a visit from our electrician it was confirmed that the fridge was in good working order for your stay. We do advertise that there is no dedicated dining area and we are sorry if you missed this when booking. As all issues are being addressed we hope this would not deter you from visiting again. • "Myself and partner stayed here for a birthday getaway at the weekend."

I was a little sceptical after reading a few of the reviews but we decided to go ahead. After making the 6 hour journey we arrived to a lovely little snug which is pretty small but compact and a nice outdoor area with the tub. Despite the set up, (and I’m not usually one to criticise) but I can confirm that the previous reviews are pretty valid. It’s very small (probably big enough for one person). the bed is horrendous to sleep on, like sleeping on a plank, and the pillows are so flat, so be sure to pack a duvet/pillows if you’re going! The downstairs area is pretty small and the sofa is tiny - which is only big enough for one person. Perhaps it would be better to put two chairs instead of the sofa, as we ended up having to eat either outside in the cold or up on the bed…which isn’t ideal! We used the hot tub (or should I say cold tub) twice and it was freezing..it seems like its stuck on option 1…so we’re unable to turn up the heat! (I know we have an energy crisis on but it’s slightly ridiculous that we sat in a cold tub - which was the main reason we booked the accommodation). You can also hear the neighbours really loudly next door and several times through the night there was banging and loud music going on. I know their on holidays too but it’s like living on top of one another… Had we not had such a long drive we’d have left a night earlier but decided to stick it out as we were both exhausted from the lack of sleep. It’s such a shame as it has quite a lot of potential but the negatives really out way the positives and really put a dampener on the holiday!

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at The Snug, we have spoken with the property manager who has advised that they are in the midst of replacing all pillows and duvets for better quality, comfort of their guests is very important. An engineer is scheduled to attend to the hot tub in a few days time. Property Owner

  • "The snug was well presented and in a good location, very modern and the hot tub was nice but unfortunately that's about as much good as I can say about our stay."

The space is quite alot smaller than is shown in pictures but that isn't too much if an issue. The real problem with the snug is the comforts and the privacy. The 'sofa' was very uncomfortable and small, the kitchen, although well ewuipt, lacked a decent fridge and it didn't get very cold.so had to rely on buying ice from the nearby shop. The bathroom was fine apart from the very small space for the toilet, meaning it was abit if a squeeze when it came to using it. The upstairs was nice and spacious but was let down by probably the most uncomfortable bed I've every had in a holiday home, this was made worse by the very cheap pillows so not much sleep was had. I came to realise we were actually sleeping on the bottom of the matress as it had been flipped. The outside space was lovely in principle and the hotub was amazing but this was let down by all the over looking windows from other houses, this has been helped by the umbrella that was installed but we were still overlooked. There was also a CCTV camera facing the hot tub which I understand is for security reasons but this made us feel like we were watched 24/7. All the above reasons lead us to leaving the snug a day earlier than intended because we just weren't getting any sleep ( we also had banging from neighbours both nights). A partial refund would be a good gesture seen as there are a few points raised that really shouldn't be an issue.

We would first like to thank you for your stay with us and your feedback. As owners of holiday homes it important to us that we provide you comfortable accommodation for your stay. We are very much aware the snug is a small space and we have done our best to provide facilities and information before booking this unit, so much so we have had the actual meterage area recorded and placed on the description of the listing. We don't wish to mislead anyone staying with us and can promise that no images of the snug have been digitally altered. We are also reviewing the mattresses, although the upside down mattress may be the reason it was a little uncomfortable as we do try to supply good quality pocket sprung mattress to all of our units and are reviewing the mattress toppers also. We love that you like the hot tub, but are aware it can sometimes be difficult when other nearby properties have windows. This is why we have supplied a large garden umbrella which can provide cover and privacy. This is located at the rear of the hot tub on the wall and can pull out and be maneuverer into a position that suits. We would also like to address the CCTV issue you have raised. Although we like to make our guests comfort our priority it is our guests safety which we have to prioritise. Please be assured that the CCTV is not manned 24/7. However it is there should we need to review it at a later date. As a final statement I would like to add that we do leave contact numbers in the guest manual should you need anything and at no stage was we contacted. We would love to fix any issue you may of had to give you the best stay possible. We wish you all the best and hope you stay with us again. Property Owner

The heating was on most of the time was like a sauna , You can here next door guests through wall, And one of the towels had lots of holes in it. A suggestion for the owner would be to put a gazebo over the hot tub and a slightly bigger sofa and advertise correctly The only things that were positive was the lovely welcome package, in both downstairs on table ,upstairs on the bed ,the shower was lovely size , the kitchen was good considering the size of snug . And the hot tub was amazing , And the bedroom was stunning I'd say if you were to stay here you'd need to be skinny and single unfortunately it's not suitable for even 2 people

Thank you for your feed back. We appreciate constructive criticism. We strive to further improve our services, and with out guests such as yourself letting us know about your stay we are unable to make improvements. While we have tried to be completely transparent in regard to the size of the stairs by providing pictures, we will provide measurements so this doesn't happen again. We have also had our maintenance check the stairs, although it was reported they were ok, we will continue to check them before every booking from now on. WiFi is provided and we have given out the passcode in a guest manual inside the property which included numbers to contact in case you needed any help which are available 24 hours a day and would of been happy to help with any of these issues, apologies if this was difficult to find. Again, to make sure there is no repeat situation we will make the guest manual easily located. Trying to address all of your points, we are constantly restocking on towels and bedding and will make sure that we only supply our best for our guests. We have taken your points about the hot tub onboard and are installing a large umbrella and a gate. We love that you appreciate our welcome package and other aspects of your stay and thank you for including that in your feedback.
