  • "We asked for the paving to be power washed to remove green slippery surface before we came."

This was done, thank you. The instructions for the kitchen were non existent. it took a bit of time to discover there was a fridge freezer in the boiler room next to the kitchen. The fridges and wine cooler in the kitchen proper were not on when we arrived and we could not find out how to turn them on, so had to contact with some difficulty a maintenance man to come. He had to use his phone, for instructions so there was no chance we could have done it ourselves. The written house guide with useful info for general things and good info for local amenities we discovered in a drawer in the kitchen diner, and this would have been helpful to have in a visible obvious place, ie. on the low table as one came in so that one could consult at once. But we found the house very easy to be in and enjoy with a lot of family Thank you. The most important thing you could do is to have an EASILY AVAILABLE LOCAL PERSON REPRESENTATIVE - ON THE END OF A PHONE CLEARLY WRITTEN UP. THIS IS THE SINGLE BEST IMPROVEMENT YOU COULD INSTIGATE. THERE IS NOTHIHG WORSE THAN HAVING THAT TERRIBLE ROUND AND ROUND ANSWER PHONE WHICH GETS NO WHERE USEFUL EASILY OR QUICKLY, Thank you for opportunity to share our opinions, the house is a very good one for a large number of people, it has a glorious position and view, the surrrorundings are peaceful and beautiful, and it is a very nice house to live in!. - good atmosphere. I would certainly recommend it to my friends and take it again especially if the easily remedied points above were addressed.. AVoelcker

  • "Ignore any negative reviews, this property has clearly been newly renovated; new carpets, new bathrooms - a stunning property in a breathtaking location."

Our only complaint is that there was no welcome pack, and there is literally nothing in the house, no milk, bread, not even salt!

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the new renovations. We would love to welcome you back anytime in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "This review is based on the Sykes rating of this property as 5* and the price point that it sits at."

Overall, the house was disappointing and in need of significant maintenance. By the end of the first 48h, the washing machine had flooded the utility room, a fridge wouldn't close and the dishwasher rotating arm and wheels had fallen off. Sykes sent out a member of John Bray to look at these issues, and the issue with the fridge was resolved. The electrics need to be looked at (when you turned the utility light on, the lights in the kitchen dimmed/turned off). The carpets need to be replaced (marks, dirty). The main issue was the living room. It smelt, the sofas were damp when we arrived and there were a lot of scatter cushions, many of which don't seem to have been washed in a number of years. The outdoor furniture cushions (which were also dirty) were left in a pile in the corner. Dirty throws. Dirty, marked rugs, dusty glitter ball (it didn't work because it was too dusty). No trampoline (as shown in pictures). Couldn't use coffee machine as parts were missing. These aren't all issues that can be resolved from a 'visit' whilst we are on our holiday, they should have been resolved before people spend good money on a stay. The owner needs to invest in a refurbishment and Sykes need to review their rating of the property/up their standards when it comes to cleaning.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that these issues negatively impacted your stay, your comments will be raised to our property quality assessor, maintenance and housekeeping teams - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. It is a very spacious and comfortable house set in lovely surroundings, and is extremely well equipped. It is clearly a family home and it was a pleasure to stay there.

  • "The owners need to invest and do a bit of TLC to the property as it is looking tired."

Mattresses need changing, they are very lumpy and not good to sleep comfortably for 7 nights. The dinning table, chairs , cutlery and plates is not enough for the number of people that can sleep in the house. It should also be check. Great spot, very clean and overall a good property.

  • "We booked a number of John Bray properties over the week to accommodate our wedding guests."

We found the Old Granary was lacking some basic facilities: no salt/pepper/oil in kitchen, only 3 dishwasher tablets for 10 people for a week and limited toilet paper and towels. House itself was beautiful but does need some maintenance (outdoor furniture in particular).

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Our properties are of a self catering nature so we only provide the basics to start you off on your holiday but we appreciate the frustration. The maintenance team here will inspect the house and outdoor furniture to see what we can do. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future! - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "A lovely house and very well equipped particularly in the kitchen."

Lovely setting with a fabulous view of the Camel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but have a few points to raise. The mattress in bedroom 4 needs renewing as it dips in the middle. The dishwasher needs replacing as the cutlery basket has holes and the cutlery falls through and stops the lower rotating arm from moving, the wheels on the lower tray keep falling off and the upper rotating arm also falls off. I have marked the cleanliness score down because there are a lot of scatter cushions, pouffs and rugs in the lounge and on the landing that are very dirty and some are very old looking and I suggest should be thrown away. Lastly the sun beds in the garden are very rickety and need attention. Having said all of this we had a wonderful holiday in the Old Granary and would probably return.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays to rectify. • "We had a lovely time at the Granary!"

It was a great house and all very easy. We enjoyed waking up to the view of the Camel river and the bubbling bath and movies after surfing. We had to turn the heating off because it was so warm (but forgot to turn it on again when we left, sorry). We couldn’t work the coffee machine and there was no other means of making coffee but other than that it was extremely well equipped and we couldn’t fault it! A fun space to be in, thank you.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased to hear you had a lovely stay. We will look into putting some instructions for the coffee machine put into the property. John Bray on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Would prefer to be put through to local John Bray team in situ in Rock rather than to Sykes somewhere else in the country."

Having said that the response when we reported a broken toaster to local number which was then automatically transferred to Sykes was efficient. The local team based in or near Rock know many ot the properties themselves and have invaluable local knowledge and it would be beneficial if any queries were put directly to them rather than routing via Sykes.

Thank you for your comments. We are afraid that since the takeover this way of communicating is how things will be going forward. However, we are constantly searching for and finding ways to improve the speed and efficiency of this to make it smoother for our guests. We hope you enjoyed your stay regardless of these and would love to welcome you back in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "We had a great time at The Old Granary and are keen to return next year if possible."

We loved the stunning view across the Camel Estuary from the upstairs master bedroom windows - wonderfully uplifting to wake up to. We know the area well and have done most things many times over, but this year we did try something new - sampling the food and wines at Trevibban Farm as the sun set over the relaxed informal garden. Very enjoyable.
