• "The Kittiwake is the third property we have stayed in in this complex."

  It has huge, fantastic views of the sea at Carbis Bay and St Ives. An attractive apartment, some small niggly issues which have been reported previously, including the lack of under cupboard kitchen lights, which are apparently on order. Beds are very comfortable, but the wooden bed frames, particularly the single beds, are possibly less suited to adults, and led to a few bruises! TVs are a bit small but adequate. Overall, a lovely apartment, and well placed for visiting the various sites around St Ives.

• "Lovely apartment, stunning views."

  We have stayed in various apartments in Carbis Bay and the views in Kitiwake are simply the best. The apartment is well equipped. Comfort wise, the settees are not very comfortable, whichever way we sat, comfort was an issue, a couple of armchairs would have been lovely. Another issue was the kitchen under cupboard lights, out of three, only one kept on, and the bulbs are different colours, cool white and warm white. Also the bathroom mirror lights, (bathroom nearest back door) only one side of the lights were working. Simple things maybe, but annoying. We reported these issues to the housekeeper before we left. I would point out that the parking area was listed as a ‘secure gated area’ . This was not so as the gates were open all week, obviously something wrong with the electrics/sensors. No one seen repairing them.

The vehicle gates are at times left open at the discretion of the Barepta Cove Management Company, often within the summer period due to the additional use by guests. We understand a note was added to the website on the 10th May 2024 prior to your booking so we could ensure enquiring guests are aware of this. • "The view from the apartment is breathtaking."

  You can see Rock to the right and across to St Ives on the left. The apartment was clean and comfortable with plenty of crockery, saucepans, glasses etc. but no cling film, tin foil or cleaning products which you normally find in the most basic of rentals. The walk to and from the beach is quite challenging but worth it. There is an excellent train service to St Ives which takes just 3 minutes. A fabulous apartment in a fabulous location. Would highly recommend.

  Stunning views. Quiet area. We had a great week there. Only downsides were the seating area - which wasn’t particularly comfortable for relaxing - would be cramped for 4 adults & the bed was firm - simple topper mattress would help.

• "Great location, good views, clean and modern."

  Unfortunately the family above us had 2 children that appeared to be training for the olympic running and we were woken up daily at 7am and this continued until they went out and started again as soon as they returned later in the day, which was quite annoying. Only other irritating issue was the twin beds - the struts underneath the mattresses are too short and if you move too quickly the mattress falls through! Otherwise it was a fantastic holiday and a great place to stay.

• "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kittiwake."

  Lovely views. Good location for S. W. Coastal path. Apartment has everything you need. Not a fan of leather sofas and a nice armchair in lounge window area would be a bonus to admire views. Shower screen over bath in en suite bathroom leaked over the floor/behind bath panel and water pressure in shower was poor (personal preference). This did not detract from a fabulous holiday and I would recommend Kittiwake without hesitation.

• "A comfortable, spacious modern and well equipped flat with superb views over the bay."

  We found lots to do in the area and a highlight was a day trip to Tresco in the Scilly Islands. Generally clean, but attention needed to some of the finer details, such as skirting boards, grill and powder drawer for washing machine. Batteries in the remote controls for the speaker and the Wii were corroded, the plug in night light in the hall doesn't work. Access to the car park is through a tight gateway, allocated parking spaces are rather tight for larger modern cars, but adequate if everyone parks centrally to their space. Train is within a ten minute walk to go into St Ives, beach 15 minutes walk, but a steep walk back, ok if you are relatively fit. One of the best Sykes properties we have stayed in and we would recommend.

• "The size, location and aspect of the apartment with secure parking - were all very good."

  Good access to station and beach. Kitchen spacious and well equipped although a few of the glasses are faded and should be replaced. Could be cleaner - hair and spider found in twin bedroom drawer; not vacuumed under the sofas or along some of the skirting. Personal choice - do not like leather sofas! Also, a drawer in the chest of drawers in the twin bedroom was damaged (before our arrival). We do understand that it is self catering but some extra cleaning items should be provided e.g. spray surface cleaner, two J-cloths and an extra scourer.

  Beautifully appointed apartment and amazing views. My only issue is the same one I made after our previous visit...There are kitchen items kept on the higher shelf in the kitchen, too high for someone less than 5'4" to be able to reach, as is the microwave. A folding kick-stool or something similar to stand on would be so useful.

• "Kittiwake is a beautiful apartment with stunning views."

  It had everything we needed and I loved the large thick white fluffy towels. My husband liked the fact there were smaller bath towels too. The apartment was a wonderful place to relax and watch the sunrise and sunset and we could look at the stars from the balcony. We were blessed to see dolphins almost every day and also seals in the bay. ( take your binoculars for an even better view). We really didn’t want to leave.

• "My one niggle about Kittiwake is the fact that, as someone that is shorter than average, the kitchen cupboards and microwave are too high."

  I accept the fact that my height (5' 2") is my problem but maybe a step stool/kickstool could be provided? There would be space and to have one would have made a big difference to me and other shorter people. Also, the dishwasher had run out of rinse aid and salt when we arrived, there were only 4 dishwasher tablets for the week and our washing up liquid and kitchen soap were both empty. Apart from that, beautiful apartment, amazing views....loved our stay. Thank you

With regards to the dish-washer tablets, 4 tablets are provided as part of the Welcome Pack and guests normally replenish these themselves if they require extra during their stay. • "The apartment was very good and exactly as described."

  Our experience of trying to contact Sykes was very poor as the phone went unanswered on the several occasions we rang. It was disappointing there was no welcome pack of provisions, ie cream tea, bottle of wine, that we have been used to finding in other 5* rentals in Carbis Bay. The two vouchers for pasties and scones were a poor substitute. There were also very few, or mostly empty/missing cleaning materials - toilet gel, kitchen surface cleaner, and only 5 dishwasher tablets and the milk had only 2 days left on the best before date. If this is 'normal' then this fact should be made clearer on your website which did state we may need to supply extra bin liners, hand wash/sanitizer, washing powder. I would add that these items plus others have always been provided in previous 5* rentals including general sundries such as kitchen foil and cling film. There were just a couple of areas of cleaning that could have been better - there was grime where the kitchen stainless steel sink met the granite work-surface as well as grime around the dishwasher door seal and the oven needed a more thorough clean. Overall, however we were pleased with the apartment and would book again if the cost is competitive with other apartments in the area that go the extra mile in their offerings. The items we have highlighted are small and given your attention would ensure that visiting Kittiwake is a truly 5* experience.

Sadly, due to Covid-19, we are still unable to provide the physical cream teas on the arrival day as this requires all the housekeepers to visit the office at the same time to collect their allocation for a day. As we are trying to minimise the spread of Covid-19 to our staff and trades, we felt that vouchers collected during the week for guests to redeem at their leisure in Ferrell’s bakery, prior to its closure, was a safer option.You may have heard via social media, but Ferrell’s & Son, who we used to supply our cream teas have now closed and therefore we have had to look into other welcome back items for our guests in the free welcome pack provided by Carbis Bay Holidays. As we are self catering accommodation, only a starter pack of cleaning materials are usually provided for your use. Regarding your effort to contact our office, we have checked your record and we cannot see a call made to the local office, which is on the same number (01736 630015 option 2 or you get straight through if you are calling from a number on your booking form). We would very much like to have had the opportunity to discuss the concerns you had and then would have rectified any issues you were unhappy with to the best of our ability.   Previously we had stayed at Carbis Beach Apartments for many years. This year we decided to try Barepta Cove and what a great decision it turned out to be. We could not have been happier with the everything about the apartment. Spacious, clean, well equipped, good parking and what must be the best view in the bay. We were so pleased with Kittiwake that we have already booked two fortnights during 2018. As usual the booking experience with Carbis Bay Holidays was first class. The greeting from Hayley and the treats on arrival were much appreciated. We arranged a linen change for the middle Friday and this was done seamlessly while we were out. We can recommend the Sunday lunch at The Pedn Olva, The Firehouse Grill and Caffe Pasta. We also enjoy a walk to Lelant for lunch at The Badger or The Watermill."

  The view was second to none and the accommodation itself was beautiful, light, spacious, clean and very comfortable. We settled in very quickly and certainly didn't want to leave. Restaurant recommendations-same every year; Porthminster Beach café on the terrace! Perfect. We also tried the Lifeboat Inn on the harbour at St Ives and found it to be a really decent place for good, reasonably priced 'pub' food. St Andrews Bistro is also recommended. The walk from Carbis Bay to St Ives is a firm favourite and has stunning views. The addition of the decking on Carbis bay beach where you can enjoy a glass of wine and snacks is a real positive and means you can enjoy the beach in a little more comfort.
