  • "Polsue cottage was presented in an aesthetically pleasing way and was comfortable for our use."

We were aware that the property was old and could accept the damp odour in the downstairs dwelling. However as sent to the property maintenance company and yourselves we were very disappointed to find a serious lack of health and safety at the property ( letter sent via complaints procedure) which was disappointing and not a level of service that we expect given the cost of the property to stay for the week. The views , a quiet location and surrounding area were outstanding and would highly recommend a revisit if the issues had not been encountered.

  • "Lovely, light property, well decorated and spotlessly clean with none of the previously mentioned smell of damp."

The kids loved the location with the massive green outside and the crabbing opportunities about 5 minutes away. One warning for ordering food is that the fridge is quite small with a weirdly hard to access bottom compartment. It could also do with a vegetable peeler, kitchen scissors and a few more glasses for non alcoholic drinks (plenty of wine glasses!).

time we have stayed at Polsue Cottage and it will be the last. The remote curtain closer in the living room did not work properly. The bedding had not been adjusted for winter let - more blankets needed. Although clean and tidy the whole place was looking tired could not get the towel rail in the bathroom to work Just a whole series of little things which indicated lack of care and investment. Very disappointing.

  • "On arrival at Polsue all seemed great, great location with nice views over the Quay."

Upon walking into the house there was distinct smell of wrotten water or sewage. The house itself smelt clean but we soon discovered it was not particularly clean. Cob webs everywhere, dirty windows both inside and our and dog hairs all-over the sofas and carpets down stairs. We woke up on Sunday to discover the smell had got worse further investigation revealed the sewage was blocked and over flowing down the side of the house. A message to the management company and to Sykes got this sorted in the same day. Warwick from the management company kept me up to date through the day so thank you to Warwick. Later in the holiday the boiler broke and we had no hot water, again dealt with in the same day. When we reported the smell we also reported that the frying pans and saucepans needed replacing as the Teflon coating was coming off and made them unusable. This fell on deaf ears and we ended up buying our own. So to sum up Polsue great location and nothing a bit of TLC and good clean would not make this a 5 star property but as it is I can only give it a 3 and that is purely on location.

  • "What a lovely welcoming cottage."

The large lounge/diner was perfect for entertaining family visitors over the Christmas break. Beautiful views out of the upstairs windows over the estuary. We took our dog and it was great to have the green opposite for short walks and lots of nearby beaches for longer walks. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed and the Welcome Pack of milk, wine, biscuits etc. was a lovely extra touch. A really comfortable, cosy stay over Christmas. Would highly recommend this cottage. Just for info. the cafetière didn’t have a glass liner so was unusable and we also were unable to turn off the two lamps using the remote control.

Very well equipped and we had a very relaxing week celebrating our son's graduation. One small comment. There was a constant smell of damp in the downstairs bedrooms and bathroom.

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay at Polsue Cottage, and found it clean, comfortable, quiet and well-equipped."

The location and views are lovely. There was no trace of the damp that previous reviewers had mentioned. However, it would have been useful to have been told, in the information pack, about the ventilator in the kitchen ceiling, which puzzled us when we first arrived. We assume that it’s triggered by moisture levels, as it was running mostly in rainy weather. It is clearly effective, but unfortunately the cold air it expelled caused draughts. This was not a problem when the weather was warm, but on cooler days we needed to turn up the electric heaters. As there is no door between the kitchen and the sitting room, a heavy curtain over the gap would probably have helped.

The welcome pack was perfect for arrival after our 10 hours on the road, the chilled wine was a lovely surprise, ordered our shopping so barbie was on in the sun as soon as we'd all unpacked, paddle boarding on the creek was perfect for the kids with access possible a short walk to point quay, had a fab holiday, especially as we could include our pooch

  • "The cottage is situated in a lovely location with pleasant views over the creek."

Well equipped and comfortable to stay in, however, was unaware that the utility area was not in the actual cottage, but at the back of the garage, which could have been unpleasant if wet. The fridge also was rather small. There was a definite smell of damp downstairs, particularly in the twin bedroom, however, we ensured that this was aired daily allowing the room to dry out; it is after all a very old cottage. Nice starter pack in cottage, which is always welcome. Would definitely return.

  • "The cottage is in a lovely location but has a serious damp problem."

Upon arrival we noticed that the entire downstairs had a strong smell of damp. We bought several reed diffusers and opened windows as often as possible but it made no difference to the smell. When we looked more closely, we realised that there was black mould growing on the walls of all 3 bedrooms. The twin bedroom is particularly bad - the damp there is so bad that there is also mould growing on the slats of the beds and the bottom of both mattresses. Anything left downstairs overnight felt slightly damp to touch the next day, and when we arrived home we had to wash everything as it all smelled of damp. The cottage was also disappointingly dirty, especially when extra cleaning should be in place for covid. There were cobwebs in corners, thick dust on lamps, dog hairs all over, dirt on the window frames, amongst other things. We contacted Sykes on day 2 and told them about the lack of cleanliness and damp, and they said they'd book a reclean. Despite contacting them every day during the holiday this didn't happen. By the middle of the week, my elderly, asthmatic mother could no longer bear to sleep on a mouldy mattress in a mouldy bedroom, so Sykes agreed to pay for a hotel for the remainder of the stay. We would also have moved into alternative accommodation but in high season, in Cornwall, this was impossible. Sykes agreed to provide compensation for uninhabitable accommodation. Since returning home, I've had to ring Sykes multiple times to ask them to refund the hotel stay and provide compensation for a ruined week in a damp and dirty property. Today they have finally refunded my mother's hotel stay, but the owner is refusing compensation for what was a very expensive week in an unacceptable property.

Great for walking. Well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Spacious and comfortable accommodation. I often struggle with hard mattresses on holiday so it was a relief to have a comfortable bed with good quality bedding. The welcome pack was a nice touch and also the info on local attractions. Sadly didn’t have good enough weather to test out the bbq but the garden is lovely. Would definitely book again.

The kitchen had lots of room, well equipped with all you need. The bedrooms/ beds were all comfortable . A useful utility in the garden. Plenty of parking. We spent Christmas here, the cottage had been tastefully decorated, and treats left for us and the dogs !! which made it extra special.

  • "I don't think the photos and description did justice to the property."

It was better than I expected. Modern and spacious and bright inside while retaining it's cottage character. Views from the cottage across the creek were lovely and better than the photos showed. It is in a charming setting. The village is quiet but within very easy reach of the main road to most places in the area. Lovely walks along the creek and a colony of 20 egrets in the trees on the other side. I thought it looked ok from the description but it turned out to be more than that and a really lovely place to stay. I would return to it if visiting the area again. The garden was very pretty and due to the lovely weather really pleasant to spend time in. One thing that would help is if there could be instructions with the key details on how to use the key lock and handle. We got the hang of it but it was difficult at first.
