  • "The property is in a great location, but sadly let down by a few things."

It's situated in a quiet road, within walking distance to the pub and beach, it's very secluded with the back garden backing onto fields and you can just about see the sea from the bedroom windows. But there are a few things that need addressing which you can see from other peoples comments this year. The property for us was clean, apart from the hot tub which we're not sure was emptied before our arrival. We arrived just after 3pm and it was already at 40 degrees so from the previous checkout at 10am that is very quick to get it up to temperature. There were scum marks around two of the headrests which we cleaned ourselves but over the week the whole tub started to look dirty and you could clearly see where I had drawn lines in it. I would query the chemical levels and certainly nobody came back to check it during our stay. The hot tap in the kitchen definitely doesn't work, we could only get cold water out of it and then we noticed a big puddle from the unit in the cupboard underneath the sink so stopped using it and used the kettle instead. And the rubbish bin was completely full when we arrived, we put the bin out as requested but it wasn't collected so we had to leave all our rubbish in a bag in the utility. The owner has responded and addressed comments throughout the year which is good and I think if they give it some love over the winter and make it feel a bit more homely then it could be great. We would consider it again but only once the scores & comments have improved.

  • "Beautiful location just unfortunately, not well kept or cleaned."

It had not been cleaned on time for our arrival, could not go back to property until 20:30 as it was being “cleaned”. I ended up washing bedding myself as the beds were covered in hair and pillows had make up on. Carpets had not been hoovered. Hot tub couldn’t be used as it was in eco and not heating so we lost 2 days of hot tub use. It is a shame that such a beautiful property is not being used to its potential. We did not even have an apology from the owner just her saying “my systems never wrong”, well in this case, I believe it very well was. We were very disappointed and will not be returning to this property.

Hi, I'm sorry to read your feedback. Just to be clear I never made the above commentary as the owner. From time to time systems do go wrong and as soon as we are notified we take immediate action to resolve the situation for our guests. When the Sykes helpdesk contacted us we made arrangements for the cleaner to return and respond accordingly to your feedback. Property Owner

  • "We had a great week, house is in a wonderful location with easy access to the shop, pub, beach and dunes."

The house was clean and comfortable with plenty of space for six adults and the dogs. Only niggle is lack of facilities for recycling and no advice about where we could take it - this i suspect is to do with the council and not the owner! Would love to book Chi Gwynn again and would recommend

Thank you for your positive feedback. We're so pleased you found the house clean and comfortable. Please leave recycling in utility and we will sort and recycle. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The sheets were stained and the house was not clean"

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Due to yours and other feedback received this property has been deep cleaned. A professional industrial cleaner has done all the floors and the carpets have come up well. The oven has been deep cleaned, as it was well below what we would expect. All pillow and duvet protectors have been removed and replaced. The front and rear gardens have been cut back, new plants gone in and looks much better, The garden furniture seat covers have been thoroughly cleaned. The front door frame required attention so was repainted and the floor cills varnished. Damaged table tennis and table football balls replaced. Some of the interior walls required repainting which has been done. The hot water tap is working and 2 kettles are at the property (one under the stairs and one in the kitchen) as back up just in case. All light fittings have been thoroughly cleaned. All skirting boards have been cleaned. All bathrooms have been deep cleaned. All windows have been cleaned. Old baking trays removed and replaced, extra crockery and cutlery provided. Knives were not brilliant after 12 months usage, they were going through dishwasher, though need to be hand washed so have all had to be replaced. Toaster has been replaced. New chopping boards provided. Old utensils removed and replaced. The bed sheets are industrially cleaned though from time to time they do gain a mark so have advised the cleaning firm to keep a watchful eye on this and carry spares just in case on changeover day they need to switch out. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "We have just returned from our holiday in Cornwall and had a fantastic time."

Chi Gwynn was a great place to stay, both location and facilities were very good. The house was modern and spacious, the bedrooms were all large, the living areas were great for a big group. We were a 6 and very rarely used the front lounge or play room as the kitchen was a great social & eating space. The garden were enclosed and perfect for dogs. And the Jacuzzi was lovely. It is a very short walk to two good traditional pubs, and a shop. The beach at Crantock was close, but we used the car for that…. Newquay was a short car ride, or £2 on the bus, and not much in a taxi back… In summary the house and location was really good, and we will be returning in the future.

Thank you for your positive feedback. We're so pleased you and your family enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Just like recent reviews this property is not clean or maintained."

Rooms had bad marks on walls, floors had dust and dirt on them, skirting boards where dirty and dusty. Light fittings were filthy and corner of the rooms had cobwebs and flies on the ceilings. Windows and patio doors were filthy. Bed linen, towels and throws had marks and make up on them. Toilet seats and bathroom not clean. Internal bin full of waste and not emptied. Outside of property also not maintained and on arrival recycle box was overflowing with bottles and no recycle bags provided. Hot tub wasn't working and not clean to use. Boiling water tap not working so had to buy a kettle. No dishwasher tablets provided. Owner hasn't taken onboard any previous customers issues raised. AWFUL.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Firstly, I would like to say the hot tub had been working throughout your stay as the housekeeping team called round to check the water quality. It's disappointing that you didn't notify us of any issues with regard to the hot tub until the night before departure. Once this was reported we had an engineer attend the following morning and the loss of power issue was resolved immediately. The efficient boiling water tap has proved unreliable for guests so we have now provided a brand new kettle at the property. Though had we known about this we would have provided a kettle. As this is a self-catering holiday home we only provide a small arrival starter pack with tea bags, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets, and clothes, etc, to help guests when they first arrive. Unfortunately, last weeks recycling was missed so we were one week behind with the guests recycling so this was more than it should have been. All the bed linen was freshly cleaned and ironed, though have shared you comments with the housekeeping team regarding some marks on the linen like makeup. The windows and doors had recently been cleaned. We are going to get marks on the walls with wear and tear and we'll perform maintenance after the season to paint walls requiring attention. We have raised the skirting boards, lights, bin and general cleaning with the housekeeping team. We now have the owner of the housekeeping team inspecting each clean. Thank you for your feedback and choosing to stay at the property and we hope you had a good holiday. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely house we were a group of 6 adults and 2 kids and had plenty of space and seating."

We did call regarding the grass not being cut and the bed not pushed together however after a quick phone call this was sorted with out any hassle. We did not notice straight away and did not want to call again but other things that let it down was the cleanliness as we found old socks in draws and a dog ball under a chair. Also the hot tub had some scum round it.

  • "Lovely holiday house but unfortunately level of cleanliness was very poor."

Lots of black dog hair clumps on floor in kitchen/family room and on furniture and even in washing machine. Carpets not hoovered and bathroom floors were dirty as were skirting boards throughout. Vase of dead flowers in kitchen. Work surfaces and furniture needed to be cleaned. Windows covered in grime at the back, grass overgrown and no garden furniture as shown in pictures. Hoover not working but replacement provided when requested and we cleaned ourselves. We did not want cleaners in while we were in property and property should have been in a good standard in first place. Very disappointed!

Thank you for your honest feedback. I have raised this with our housekeeping team who confirmed the property had been hoovered though within the 4 hours they have to turn the property around they have clearly missed some areas. The vase of dead flowers from previous guests should have been removed. The windows were scheduled to be cleaned the following week and the grass was scheduled to be cut the day after your departure, which it was. Due to the forecast of torrential rain during your stay we opted not to leave the garden furniture out as the cushions would have been soaked. Had Sykes have notified us during your stay we would have left out the garden furniture. The hoover is a cordless Dyson hoover which needs to be charged and filter to be cleaned after use. Once notified we dropped off a brand new Henry hoover which is now situated at the property as backup. We scheduled for the cleaning team to revisit though it was advised it wasn’t necessary at the time they called. Rest assured we are addressing your feedback with the 3rd party cleaning company and hope we will soon return to positive feedback. Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us and overall we do hope you enjoyed the property. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house but not clean on arrival."

Floors had not been mopped/cleaned downstairs skirting boards thick with dust cobwebs everywhere particularly in the light shades in the kitchen. Doors and walls covered in marks/spills and needing a fresh coat of paint. The hot tub was also "scummy " so therefore wasn't used.

We hadn’t received any complaint during your stay otherwise we would have responded promptly. I have raised your feedback with our housekeeping team, and everything noted will be dealt with. As you were the first guests of 2024 and coming out of low season it’s clear the housekeeping team missed some dust/cobwebs. We will also review what areas require a coat of paint now that the property is 2+ years old. The hot tub was drained, cleaned and appropriate chemicals applied. The housekeeping team also popped back mid-week to check the water quality and hadn't reported anything. . Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner
