  • "A fantastic property."

We felt at home at once. The location is great: near the sea, near the town. The house offers all you expect for a great holiday. The kitchen is well equipped. The amount of bathrooms(4) ( all very nicely done) is a real luxury. The house has great sights and big windows. We really liked everything ( the parking space could have been a problem ( narrow!!!) but the neighboring space wasn’t taken..

Really glad you enjoyed your time in Upper Deck, thank you so much for coming! As far as the parking goes, guests with 2 cars don't have a problem fitting in because one car can go in the allocated space and one in front of the house. The neighbouring house can still fit 2 cars in because they can park 2 in front of their house, thus each house can fit 2 cars without needing to squeeze 2 into the rather narrow bays (it is possible, but tight!). Essentially with a bit of talking to each other if need be, the two adjacent properties can fit 2 cars in each. Worth bearing in mind, however that each property only has the 'right' as it were to one space each, but we have never known guests not be able to fit 2 cars in if need be. Thank you! Property Owner

  • "Well located, close to amenities."

Property clean on arrival. Beds were very comfy but the place needs some TLC. Paint on walls needs a refresh, laminate missing on the stairs. Large crack on hob hood and broken shelf on fridge door. Garden could do with a tidy up too. Overpriced property compared to others we have stayed at, which were in much better condition. Very late check in at 6pm when you’re asked to check out at 9am! You actually lose a day.

Thanks for your feedback. We have now made new arrangements with our housekeepers and am pleased that standard check out is now later at 10am and arrival earlier at 4pm. It is a large house and we want to make sure that it is fully cleaned and ready for guests. All the other maintenance points have been addressed too, including a new gardening arrangement that started this month. In peak season with back to back guests it is difficult to rectify some things in a way that does not inconvenience guests, but we try to find the balance. The sooner guests tell us (even mid stay) the sooner we can get it sorted for you. I am pleased to say that we have rectified all thes the points you mentioned now. We hope you enjoyed the rest of the house and area and would be pleased to welcome you again, with more time in the property on your 1st and last days. Property Owner

Helped of course by the beautiful weather! But that aside, the house was perfect for our multi-generational group, we all had our spaces yet could come together in the lovely open plan family room and the children loved the den downstairs, the PlayStation was a hit during chill out times. The beds were super comfy and waking up to the gorgeous view was a bonus! The house was clean and well maintained with all we needed. It’s location was spot on for us, we used our cars twice to take a couple of day trips but the rest of the week we walked to the gorgeous beaches, fab places to eat (the rum and chicken shack was immense!) we also enjoyed a gorgeous anniversary meal at Sea Fever, a lovely treat!!! We all said we would return to Bude and to the house itself! Thank you for all great week we won’t forget. I’ve already recommended you to friends!

Thank you for your feedback, which we are delighted to see. We try hard to make it spot on for all guests so that whatever weather or age it helps make a great holiday Property Owner

Spacious, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, and the warm communal kitchen/living space all contributed to a restful break together and chance to have some peace away from the group when needed. The location was so good - we walked to the beaches to surf, swim in the sea pool (no wetsuits for that dip - very cold!), shop, play crazy golf and walk along the beautiful cliffs. We drove to Tamar Lakes and hired kayaks, and also to Port Isaac for the Shanty Festival (including Fisherman's Friends!). This is a lovely family home in a fantastic location.

Hi, I'm glad everything was very good. Sorry you weren't happy about the lounge TV, there is a large 2ft plus size TV in the games room with the sofa. It is a normal TV not just a screen for games, so is always a good back-up! Unfortunately, the week before you arrived we had a thunderstorm and the power surges it caused stopped our TV - and many other local TV's from working, so the lounge TV you had was a smaller spare one while a new one was being sourced. A bigger TV is back in the lounge again so hopefully that fault is now solved! Property Owner

Stunning views of the sea from both the king size bedrooms. And even a lovely countryside view from the kitchen sink! Walking distance to Crooklets beach and Summerleaze(provided you don’t have mobility issues, my dad has hip issues so we had to drive to Summerleaze). The house is very well equipped and spacious, perfect for a multi generational family. The games room is great particularly for older children or adults, we enjoyed the football table and PlayStation. The scones and clotted cream were a lovely touch on arrival too! Bude itself is a beautiful place and there’s loads of other places to visit, on a rainy day we went to the Milky Way adventure park and our 3 year old loved it! We enjoyed the Sandy beaches, the sea pool and body boarding on the ways. Great bacon sandwich at Crooklets beach cafe and perfect family food at Rosie’s kitchen also at Crooklets beach. There’s many more recommendations in the handy guide provided by the owner.

You absolutely can't beat the location for ease of access to the beach, cliff top walks and shops - everything is within a 5 minute walk. The house was fantastic for the 6 of us - loved the table football (amateur league created!) and the large screen in the "playroom" - could have done with a larger TV screen in the living room but we got used to a smaller one. The amenities were great and the comms with the owner and the housekeeper (especially about Covid cleaning and exactly what we needed to bring) were fantastic. We just could have done with a bit more sunshine but to be honest just being able to get away this year was amazing! We would definitely return again - thank you!

  • "Fab location, very close to the beach."

Overall we were pleased with the accommodation, plenty of rooms for all of us. If you do choose to stay here just be aware that it’s essentially four floors, from the games room on the bottom to the bedrooms at the very top (with lovely views). This means lots of stairs! Curtains in top double room were hanging off, we managed, but it needs sorting. The white curtains in the lounge could do with replacing. Not sure white is the right choice, they were stained. On arrival one of the toilets in an en-suite had not been cleaned, the toilet brush and holder had been left down the loo, and it was covered in urine and hair. I made a call, was told it was an oversight, and then had to go and buy gloves and cleaner to do it myself. Not great given the current climate. The parking space is very tight, if you have a small car you’ll be ok, but not a larger family car, you may have to park on the road. I think visitors need to be aware of this.

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback. We were glad to hear you were pleased with the overall accommodation. We’ve examined the curtains and booked in some drapers to sort out both double bedroom sets of curtains and the lounge curtains. We are very sorry about the condition one toilets was left in and have spoken with our housekeeper to ensure such a thing is not missed in the future. We do give guidance and rules on the parking on the website, and if guests find the allocated parking bay #2 too tight then parking in front of the ground floor games room is recommended instead. Additional parking is available for all on the street, MaerDown Road is used by guests often. Property Owner

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage & on both occasions cleaning has not been as expected."

On arrival had to clean all floors, clean living room patio doors and dust surfaces. Apart from this house is fabulous, well equipped and in great location.

Thanks for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Upper Deck, but very sad to hear the cleaning was not meeting your expectations. We had chatted with you in November when you previously stayed and had been in contact with you on the day you arrived in February, when you spoke and wrote very positively with us about the house. If you had told us at either of those points that the cleaning was not meeting your expectations our housekeepers would have gladly rectified the situation immediately. Unfortunately, there is little we can do to improve your experience if we find out after you leave. In February, some repairs to the bathroom needed to take place just before your arrival (as we apologised to you for) and we suspect that despite our cleaners working very hard, there may have still been some tile dust in the air that had settled since it had been cleaned. We will now be sure that no repair or maintenance works should happen so close to the arrival of visitors again (unless an emergency in which case we'll schedule a double clean).   With a house that is west facing and so close to the sea it is very hard to keep the windows absolutely clear, and your stay came off the back of two consecutive major storms which prevented our window cleaner from going out safely. Just a weekend of strong winds can be enough to throw up quite a lot of salt onto them unfortunately. Nevertheless, we are now increasing the frequency of our window cleaning to try and prevent the likelihood of this being a problem again. Property Owner

About the location

BUDE

Tintagel 17 miles.

Bude is a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
