  • "19 had not been properly cleaned and the floor was water damaged from the leaking bath, making the floor dangerous to walk on bare foot."

The lodge was shabby and in need of a lot of maintenance. We would have left had we not been offered to be moved to a different lodge. The lodge we moved into was amazing. We would definitely not return to No 19. This review is based solely on No19 and not on the lodge we moved to which we would definitely return back to. Tracey was brilliant in sorting out our issues and offering the other lodge.

Thank you so much for your feedback Wayne, I am so sorry that your most recent stay with us was not up to the standard we would expect for guests. Please be reassured that since your stay the bathroom flooring has been replaced. I am however, so happy to hear that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in the lodge which we relocated you to. We hope that we will be able to welcome you back to stay with us in the future. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "This was a well awaited holiday and getaway for myself and partner."

The advertisement and pictures don’t align as this lodge is in need of some maintenance for sure and updates. The Jaquzzi bath leaked and the floor was lifting, the carpet to the bedroom area was threadbare and lifting and my partner who has MS nearly fell on lifted flooring and carpet also. The table and chairs on the bedroom veranda were falling apart and just at the end of days. It was a shame really but the only lifeline was the receptionist onsite who moved us to another lodge and it was truly appreciated. If this hadn’t of happened then I feel I would have no option to return home and abandoned the holiday. So I was pleased with Tracey and her communication from the outset that saved the day.

Thank you for your feedback Mark and we are so sorry again for any frustrations caused at the beginning of your stay. The items which were raised by yourself will be looked into and resolved for future guests. We are very pleased that we were able to move you into an alternative lodge so you were able to enjoy your much needed break! We do hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future. As for the outside furniture was in a poor state the rattan on the back of the chairs was broken which made it very uncomfortable to sit on.

Thank you so much for letting us have your feedback Alan, I am happy to hear that your stay was comfortable. I am so sorry to hear about the condition of the outdoor furniture, please be reassured that following your review, we have placed an order for upgrading this. The site is immaculate and private. Would benefit from a shop and cafe on site. We visited the sister sites restaurant and it was also very nice. Will definitely recommend.

Like others mentioned needed a blind at the roof window because it gets light early now let to much light in the room and also the plain glass on the door no privacy I don’t think anything will be done about it as it has been raised a few times and still nothings been done so wouldn’t stay again but bed was comfortable so that was good

  • "This was the best holiday accommodation we have had."

Attention to detail is exquisite. A lot of thought was put in this facility. It was raining for 2 days of our holiday and those 2 days were the best. We spent our time between the indoor jacuzzi and the cinema room. And the sauna, of course.

I am so very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us at 19 Meadow Retreat, even when the weather was atrocious. It sounds like you made full use of all the amazing facilities within the lodge and had lots of fun. I hope you will be back to stay with us again very soon. It was a very special holiday. The only thing that could be improved was that the jacuzzi jet randomly came on during the night and when the bubbles were turnt on black bits came out into the bath. But all in all lovely stay would recommend x

  • "My husband and I had a lovely relaxing time at number 19 Meadow Retreat."

It was very clean and welcoming. The kitchen was well equipped, the only thing that was missing was a measuring jug. The jacuzzi bath was great to relax in. I would suggest taking a couple of plastic glasses if you want to have a drink while you relax. The bed was very comfy. Cinema Room was great to chill in and watch a movie. The front door could do with a blind or a curtain. We took a grow blind which did the trick. The patio doors were great to look out over the fields behind the property just a shame the glass panels on the balcony could do with a clean. We would happily recommend this property.

Thank you so much for leaving us your feedback Paula, I am so pleased that you and your husband had a lovely time with us and were able to relax! We have added a measuring jug into the lodge for future guests! Thank you for your suggestions and for letting me know about the glass panels, I will book this in for a clean, I am sorry this was not done prior to your stay. We do hope you will stay with us again in the future. Best wishes, Martha, Guest Services, Charteroak. Property Owner

One slight recommendation- if there could be a blind added to the front door that would be great as it’s wide open for viewing. Thank you so much for a fantastic break- we can’t wait to come back already!

back slash in kitchen, I did all this. Same with maintenance we book this lodge as partner enjoys the sauna and cinema room but it needs a lick of paint in places, and bathroom flooring needs replacing in parts. Have concerns re pets going forward but saying that we have rebooked for later this year.

  • "Me and my girlfriend adored our 4 night stay at 19 Meadow Retreat, celebrating our 6 years of being together."

We couldn't of asked for a more perfect place to stay in Cornwall, with it being close to many wonders such as: Eden Project, Looe, Plymouth, Bodmin etc. Conveniently there is a Morrisons only a 6 minute drive away in Liskeard, so we could stock up our fridge with ease. The facilities within the lodge are amazing, with notable mentions of the Cinema room. A large flat-screen TV with a surround sound system is great to watch movies on and play games. The jacuzzi, shower and sauna being located within the bedroom is convenient as-well. The morning views over Liskeard is worth every penny. The reason for rating only 4 stars though is there is a couple problems with the lodge: - The jets for the jacuzzi turn on randomly, so had to turn off by the fuse at night to avoid a scare! - The underfloor heating system is confusing (4 thermostats on the wall in total) and I never noticed a difference with how much I played with it. - The bedroom radiator is extremely loud (possibly trapped air) and needs repairing as had to keep the thermostat off so it doesnt activate. - The towel rack next to the jacuzzi doesnt work at all, only the one in the toilet. - Two single beds put together is not nice, kept falling through the middle. But besides them couple points, it was an amazing experience and I would stay here again if these problems are rectified. Thank you for a pleasant stay!

Thank you so much for your feedback Oliver, we do so appreciate you leaving us your thoughts. I am delighted to hear that you spent a wonderful anniversary at 19 Meadow Retreat and enjoyed all the facilities, despite the issues you have mentioned. I have passed on your problem with the jacuzzi to our spa maintenance team to look into and have mentioned providing instructions for the underfloor heating to the Guest Services Manager, which is in the process of being investigated. The issues with the radiator, towel rail and bed have been forwarded to our maintenance and housekeeping teams to resolve, so thank you for letting us know and our most sincere apologies that these were not rectified prior to your arrival. I really do hope you will return to stay with us again. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "Luxurious kitchen & living area with all the amenities & utensils."

Cinema room & sauna were brilliant. Lovely morning views. Welcome box was a nice touch. Cleanliness let the cottage down slightly. Black mould-like chunks/sludge were emitted from the jets and put us off from using the jet function, issue persisted even after cycling several full tubs of water and running the jets for a good while as instructed by reception. Floor towels were stained brown from dirt in the flooring gaps. The jets on the jacuzzi also randomly switched themselves on in the middle of the night despite being empty and gave us quite the fright, had to turn it off at the fusebox. Bit disappointed that the super king-size bed was 2 separate mattresses, and the front glass door could do with a blind for a bit more privacy.

Thank you so much for your feedback Karolis, we really do appreciate your time. I am very happy to hear that despite the issues you encountered, you enjoyed the lodge and the beautiful views. I have passed on your comments about the cleanliness of your lodge to our housekeeping team, so that they can rectify this in the future. I am sorry that the high standards we would expect for all our guests, were not present when you stayed with us. I have also passed on your issues with the hot tub to our spa team who have now been to deep clean the tub and sort out the jets. I truly hope you will come back to Southern Halt to stay with us again soon. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "I usually stay at 9MR, so this was first time in the property but not first time at Southern halt."

As with 9MR the property is well maintained and has all the right features for a relaxing break, with the added bonus of a balcony overseeing the adjacent Fields. Southern halt is a great place to stay if you have a car as you can really get about exploring all the wonderful parts of Cornwall. The only things I'd mention for 19MR that are mentioned in other reviews is the spa bathroom and bedroom is all one room so I can imagine in the summer you will rise early as the skylight brings in the new day (wasn't an issue during my stay as coming to the end of October it's still dark at 8am!) and privacy is harder to come by in the kitchen living room due to the front door being open glass, but to be honest it's not like people will be walking by peering in at all times as I'm sure they will be enjoying their own properties. I would say if you are looking to enjoy some cinema room time then the TVs could probably do with updating, they are older smart TVs (both front room and cinema room) so you are only able to get Netlix and Prime, (no Disney, apple etc.) All in all another great stay at Southern halt, will be back again.

Lovely to hear you had another great stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again Property Owner

  • "We had an amazing stay at 19 meadow retreat."

The lodge is fully equipped with everything you need and was spotless on arrival. Thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub with the tv, the cinema room and deer spotting on the balcony. Visited the local pub a few times too which is only a short walk down the road. The only extra i would add to the lodge is to install a blind or curtain onto the main entrance door. Also, move the outside furniture from the bedroom balcony to the living room balcony. Overall our stay was very relaxing. Would definitely return again and already recommended to friends and family.

Thank you for the amazing review and recommendation. We are glad you thoroughly enjoyed your stay we look forward to welcoming you on your return visit. Property Owner

  • "We have just returned from a week staying in Lodge 19 Meadow Retreat."

What can I say, it was just beautiful and such a lovely site with beautifully made lodges. This lodge had a bath jacuzzi and it was just so nice to use, very relaxing and a nice touch to have a t.v to watch at the same time! The area is stunning and so peaceful, all you can hear are the birds and we enjoyed listening to the different varieties. The lodge had everything you needed and well equipped, it was so nice they left milk in the fridge for us. The only thing we thought was a negative was the skylight above the bath could maybe have a blind or a curtain between the bath area and bedroom. As others have mentioned the light wakes you up quite early. It was a lovely stay and we would definitely return and we highly recommend staying here. Thanks.

Thank you for such a great review and recommendation. We are glad you were able to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We look forward to welcoming you when you return. Property Owner

  • "We found the booking process was straight forward and without problems."

We arrived at 15:45H ready to take over the propery at 16:00H, unfortunatley only at 15:50H did the clearers desended upon the property and told us they would be ready around 16:20H which they were. So a bit late but ok, can happen. The Property itself was clean, although for a "luxury" property it did look tatty in places. Examples, the couch was shot. No comfort at all, totally sat through and without any support. Urgently needs replacing. Paintwork inside in places tatty and flaked off, repair work on wall above sink not finished. The 1st time we filled the indoor whirlpool and switched on the pumps we were greeted by black slimey stuff coming out of the jets. So after letting it run for an hour, emptying and re filling twice it seemed we had solved this problem. Very strange and a pain was the fact that there were only 4 of everything. 4 plates, 4 bowls, 4 knives, forks, spoons, and a total lack of kitchen accessories. And only 1 oven glove ??? @Sykes.. Have you ever tried to remove a hot heavy oven tray/Dish with only 1 oven glove? Is is a no go! There was a dishwasher which we never got around to using, then due to the lack of everything we had to wash everything up in the sink straight away. Very annoying was that on arrival the Wifi was offline and the Provider needed 5 days to get it fixed. Not the fault of Sykes but none the less for me who needed the wifi for work a real problem. If the above issues were sorted before our coming then our stay would have been a 8 or 9 out of 10. The region itself is lovely and well worth a visit.
