  • "This is our second stay here."

I was surprised to read some negative reviews before our visit. To put records straight I found the main bed very comfortable. The property is very well equipped and clean. I did not find one dog hair anywhere. It would be difficult to find a property so close to the town centre. Yes you have to put your car in the car park, which is within a few yards and very reasonable price. I used the Just Park App and just put a week on for about £40. Saved faffing about. People what are you moaning about- get a grip.If you look hard enough you’ll probably find something. Stop looking so hard and appreciate what is there - a really nice property in central Wadebridge. Flat walk in too. Oh almost forgot one review said they were cold. I found it almost too hot. I am quite selective on where I stay and I will definitely go back for a third visit. Susan Harrison

  • "The property advertised there was a baby gate, this was not usable as it didn’t close so we asked the property manager if they could tighten the gate bolts to make it close or provide an adjustable spanner so we could do it."

When discussed with the owners we were advised this couldn’t be closed as the banister post was not strong enough to hold the gate and this has never been a problem in 5 years, however it was a problem now and needed resolving but we were met with some resistance on this - not the most helpful of property owners on this matter, lady was very apologetic and tried to think of a resolution and seemed to appreciate our feedback however husband was a little confrontational and resistant to resolve, even said he didn’t see what the problem was if I was in the property with my child. I was advised as a solution that there were some reusable cable ties in the drawer and these had been used before - so it obviously had been a problem before. However on investigation, these were sandwich bag ties which were no longer than an inch long and the gap was probably 5 inches round, plus these would never have been strong enough to hold even if long enough. My worry would be if the bannister post isn’t strong enough to hold a stair gate - 1 why is it there and 2, is the bannister strong enough to serve purpose if this is the case, a huge safety red flag in my opinion. Safety measures should not be advertised, let alone provided if they are unusable as a safety measure. I was asked to find something at the cottage to tie it closed with or buy something and would be reimbursed. We had to use oven gloves to tie it closed for the duration of our stay - I wouldn’t have booked this cottage should I have known there was no way of keeping my child safely away from the stairs. On first glance the cottage seemed nice and clean, smelling strongly of bleach on arrival. However we later found the floor in the lounge to be sandy, the sofa covered in dog hair and once the smell of bleach faded it smelt quite strongly of damp. Whilst I appreciate it is a dog friendly cottage I would still expect it to be clean. The walls in the master bedroom were covered in faint mould marks which have obviously been wiped and the mattress in the master bedroom is in need of replacement as it dips heavily making it very uncomfortable. Internet was terrible with little signal and the instruction manual could do with instructions of how to use the TV as it took some figuring out. The property also needs more normal drinking glasses as there are only two in the property yet it sleeps 5, there are lots of wine glasses and champagne flutes which are not suitable. Would also recommend plastic plates / bowls and cups for smaller children. However there were adequate cleaning facilities provided when needed, tea, milk, biscuits, washing up Iiquid and dishwasher tablets let which was helpful. Location is great, and car park right next door is really good value at £6 for 24 hrs.

Thank you for your feedback. It is a shame that in our conversation that you did not mention any of the issues that you have raised other than the stair gate which I believed to be resolved. You were very positive about the cottage. I asked our house manager to check for a smell of damp and to check if there was in issue with the bed. He is confident that this is not the case. I am grateful for you letting me know that we need to replenish some tumblers which I will do as a matter of course. Property Owner

  • "The cottage needs definitely a deep clean."

The floors were dirty with dogs hairs, the sofa and the carpet in front of it had a slight dog odour and also dogs hairs on it. There were spider webs in the corners. The master sleeping room had mold stains on the wall, one of the other sleeping rooms had mold in the corners of the skylight. The outer litter bin was half full, so that we had problems to dispose our litter. The yard was also in a poor condition. No recommendation, sorry.

We apologise that you did not find the cottage as we would wish. It is a dog friendly cottage and we have not noticed any odour and not have not had anyone else do so. I did make you aware that our house manager would collect the rubbish and recycling. Property Owner

  • "We would have liked to have two sets of keys."

The oven and tins need to have a deep clean. The kitchen was really well stocked with good quality equipment which we appreciated apart from the cutlery which was small and cheap! A larger, more cosy rug in the sitting room would have been nice as the small piece of carpet there kept sliding around. Overall the cottage had everything we needed for our stay and felt comfortable and homely.

  • "Lovely property."

Very central location. The property was very well equipped to cater for all needs. The courtyard although only small catches full sun and contains a lockable storage unit suitable I think for bikes. There is no parking but car park is only metres away and very reasonable price of £5.00 a day . I pre booked mine with Just Park App rather than faff about daily.

Bäckerei in Gehweite, Lidl, Aldi und kleiner Spar mit Auto in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Sehr schöner Rad- und Spazierweg entlang des Camel-Rivers. Kleines Kino im Ort! Einige ausgezeichnete Lokale (Warne's, Streetfood-Center, The Old Teahouse etc.) in kurzer Gehweite.

Thank you very much for the feedback, we're thrilled to know you had such a good time. Translated (using Google) this reads as: "Terraced house in a quiet location, very close to a (paid) car park. Some excellent eateries (Warne's, Streetfood-Center, The Old Teahouse etc.) within walking distance. The accommodation corresponds to the pictures and the description. The house is spacious and the kitchen is very well equipped. As a family of 4 with a dog, we felt very comfortable. The only small point of criticism is the couch, which keeps pushing apart. • "The only real issue was heating."

Although the house details state the heating is only turned off in May to Oct and on a timer rest of year we were there in early April and it was cold, especially for my 90 year old mother. Bumping the temp dial on thermostat right up did not turn the heating on at any time and there was no response to maintenance number. It was pretty clear the heating was deliberately off. There is a wood burning stove but without a car it was difficult to get fuel. Otherwise house is very nice and was looking freshened up since last year. But if you come out of season be prepared to be very chilly in a stone cottage without heating!

Thank you for taking the time to comment, as a regular visitor to the cottage we’re so pleased you’ve found somewhere you find comfortable returning to time after time and we hope that continues for a long time ahead.  We’re sorry to hear you felt cold on this occasion, but do dispute this aspect of your feedback.  Contrary to what you’ve stated, we can absolutely confirm the heating was turned on and fully working – so much so that the guests immediately following you made contact asking for assistance in turning it down as they were so hot!  We’re anxious that all our guests feel comfortable at all times and if there ever any issues, encourage you to reach out to us whilst you are there. Sadly our property manager did not hear from you during your stay. Property Owner

  • "I have stayed at this property twice before - last time was last Summer, so it follows that I am generally positive about it."

It remains a very well situated property with good facilities including a lovely and well equipped kitchen and small outdoor patio which is pleasant to sit in. The linens - towels, bedding etc provided are generous and good quality. The layout of the property and way it has been furnished mean it would be best suited to a family - ie a couple with children - as the main bedroom is lovely but the two other bedrooms are very small and not well suited to adult occupants - for eg neither of the smaller bedrooms have any bedside table or reading light and you have to get out of bed to switch off the overhead light. Nor is there any wardrobe or place to hang clothes on the smaller rooms other than sharing the wardrobe in the main bedroom. It was disappointing to see that issues raised last time we stayed remain unresolved a year later. In particular, the property details indicate that a spare set of keys is located in the property. As per last year, they are missing and a single set of keys to front and back door only provided - during our stay last time the contact was unable to resolve this issue during our stay and we were told the previous occupant must have lost/taken the keys. We did not bother to try and raise the same issue again this year. Even for a single family stay, it is inconvenient for members not to be able to leave the property separately without locking the others in or not having a set of keys. The child stair gate is not a removable one and is affixed to the bottom stair in a way which impedes access to the bottom tread and is a real tripping hazard for, in particular, the elderly or children. I have never stayed in a property where the stair gate has not been fitted to be integral with the stair tread in this way. I did feel that this year the property was not as well maintained as previously. In particular, there were several dirty dishes in the cupboard, the oven was pretty grimy and the property decor was looking a bit shabby in places. Leaving time is 9am and check in a late 5pm, which is said to be due to the necessity of Covid deep cleansing procedures and, while the property was adequately clean (apart from oven etc) there certainly hadn't been anything like deep cleaning going on! That said, we enjoyed our stay in Wadebridge and the price was reasonable for location, facilities and season. It would just be a shame if further deterioration was allowed to such a nice rental.

Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely to welcome you back again to Riverdale Cottage We have found if we leave a second set of key in the property they are often lost. We do try to encourage guest to leave keys in the keysafe when they venture out. The fixed stairgate works well, easy to use and all set ready for guests' arrival. We have spoken to the caretaking team with reference to the dishes. We very much hope to welcome you back to Riversdale. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely visit to Cornwall."

This was our first holiday as a new family with our 16month old. Wadebridge was a great base to explore and we were blessed with good weather. There were so many fun activities and great places to take our son. We were very grateful that the high chair and travel cot were set up for our arrival making it easy to set up for bedtime after a long 7.5 hour drive. The cottage was lovely and cosy and felt safe with a toddler who Is into everything! The only negative points we experienced were that the cottage was frugal with basics such as only one roll of toilet roll, minimal hand wash, one bin bag, 2 dishwasher tablets. We had to purchase all these basics extra and with the price of the stay for a week I would have expected these to be included. Cleaniness wasn’t pristine. There was a half chewed dog chew on the floor that our son found and picked up (directly into his mouth as an inquisitive toddler) and the toilet bowl was impacted with toilet roll when we arrived. The master bedroom was very well decorated but the bed was very uncomfortable for us which was made worse due to the uneven floor in the bedroom thus the bed leaned to one side. We didn’t sleep well all week. We still enjoyed our stay but I wanted to leave this feedback to improve future stays.

Thank you for your feedback and we will take account of the issues raised. We are delighted that you had a good holiday in Cornwall. We do provide a starter pack of cleaning provisions but it is then up to guests to supply the necessary for the rest of their stay. As a Cornish cottage, Riversdale comes with the charms of an older property and there is a slight slope in the master bedroom. I am sorry that this caused a problem for you - it is not something that we can rectify and has not been an issue with previous guests. Property Owner

Great location, so near to town and yet tucked away. Lovely colours in the cottage, paintings and decor. The patio is a sun trap so when the builders aren't playing their music loud it's gorgeous! They were very friendly builders so I'm sure would turn music down for a bit if asked! Be warned on the saucepans... two of us burnt our hands on the handles.. not used to saucepans with handles that get hot, so maybe bring your own oven gloves and be more careful than we were! Cottage was missing some basic accessories such as an oven glove or usable frying pan. And why leave 6 dishwasher tablets - all lined up nicely on a cloth - when guests will generally need 8? But clean and well situated for Wadebridge.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed Riversdale Cottage and the local area. The living room does provide seating space for six people, with a trunk rather than a coffee table - these images can be viewed on the website listing. Informative emails have been sent to all of our customers this summer, reminding guests to pack items (such as oven gloves) as these may have been removed temporarily in line with measures to combat Covid-19. A thick heat resistant tea towel is provided at this property just in case you have forgotten to pack your oven glove. As with all self-catering properties a starter amount of dishwasher tablets might be provided - though you'll need to gather your own provisions thereafter. Property Owner
