  • "Great size house, good facilities in terms of bed configurations, bathrooms etc."

house could do with some TLC, the carpets are quite grubby and there was paint peeling off the ceiling in the double bedroom. Bath rooms and kitchen etc were clean on arrival. Some of the utilities didn’t work properly, only half the toaster worked, the washing machine broke down with our clothes in it (when I contacted for assistance with this the team responded very quickly) On arrival on the Friday the toilet in the main bathroom has a broken toilet seat and flush. This wasn’t fixed till the Wednesday and no communication about it until I called regarding the washing machine. The dishwasher basket didn’t fit properly either. No info was provided about when the bins were emptied, we noticed others putting theirs out so did the same. Potential to be a fab holiday let but it needs some updating.

  • "Please can you take action on this complaint following a week stay at 99 Tower Road, Newquay."

The house generally looks very tired, stained dirty carpets, little room in the kitchen, top floor bedroom and bunk beds bedroom. First floor door stuck shut due to ill fitted fittings. Paint peeling off the small first floor bedroom. Rubbish found in one of the top floor bedrooms under the bed. I can go on or share photos if required. Whilst we could have contacted someone to fix these, it would not be possible whilst we were there. Health and safety issues include, exposed wire in the small room. This was a main RCD fuse box with bare wires coming out. Light fitting in the first floor bathroom not suitable for a bathroom, (should be in a room where no water). Smoke alarm system faulty. We experienced 5 random smoke alarms in the house over the week for around 5 to 15 minutes before going off. On our last night the smoke alarm system went off at 4am and continued for one and a half hours. Everyone in the house were affected. We did call the 24/7 numbers one no answer, the other answered twice but was unable to help. We left two voicemails, but no response. Given the large amount it cost us for this house for the week, we would expect at least the basic things to be done, including those which are health and safety related. I believe Sykes cottages should validate accommodation it advertises not advertise blindly. Needless to say I will not be returning to this house or use Sykes cottages again in the future. Please can this complaint be taken seriously and action taken!

  • "Had a wonderful stay at 99 Tower Road, great location for walking into town centre and beaches."

On arrival all clean and tidy (could do with refresh of paint on the woodwork and walls). Nice touch with a having a welcome tea/coffee/milk/biscuits. All in all had a great stay and would highly recommend.

Have had a great week at 99 tower road newquay, property has everything you need for 12 people, location was ideal nice 5 minute walk into town, only downside was we couldn’t get the wifi to work but will definitely keep the property in mind and return again soon

Thank you for staying, and for your great feedback. We have since checked the wifi and made sure it is working, it must have been a one-off outage. The property managers (number on file in the property) are always available to help with such things if you need it in future. Thanks again. Property Owner

We were a group solely for surfing but the house would be perfect for a large family or two.

  • "We were an extended family of 6 adults, 3 children plus a dog."

Overall the house suited us really well, it's very large and there was plenty of space for everyone. It's in a great location, close to Fistral beach and town centre. Beds were comfortable and bed linen was good quality. The house reminded us of student days, very large but a bit rough round the edges. The kitchen was a bit grubby on arrival, especially around the cooker area which was greasy and stained and the oven which obviously hasn't been cleaned in a while. There was a whole lot of random kitchen equipment in cupboards which didn't leave any room for us to put food. There are a few quirky areas, such as the 'ensuite' in the downstairs bedroom which consists of a shower and basin (no hot tap) in the room and a loo tucked behind a cupboard door! The upstairs shower room wasn't great either, the shower door didn't shut properly. None of this particularly bothered us, but if you're looking for somewhere more polished this probably isn't the house for you. It was generally warm enough, especially with the electric fire on, although some information about heating and appliances etc would have been useful. Likewise with recycling and rubbish collection, again no information in the property. Overall a good house but could do with a few improvements and some general sorting out of the kitchen cupboards and possibly a deep clean, especially of the cooker.

  • "The place was perfect for our large number of people, well situated not only for a short walk to the beach or Newquay Harbour, but also for the longer journeys (from here within an hour and a half you can be at the other end of Cornwall."

The house was bigger then the pictures show and was clean and tidy. The only downside is the parking, but not much the owner can do about that. There is a car park a couple of minutes walk for a small fee.

Thank you so much for your feedback, and thank you for staying, please come again. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at the house in New Quay!"

Fantastic location and plenty of room to socialise and well equipped. Large bedrooms and well equipped kitchen. Great for a large group of people. Couple of minor comments that would have made me give it 5 stars: 1. There was no linen bags as per the instructions 2. There was no recycling bin inside the property 3. The light bulb on first floor landing does not work / flashes on and off and was no spares for this type 4. Window in double bedroom first floor that faces back of the property does not open 5. Master bedroom on first floor, the bed is very firm 6. Feather duvets, would have been great to have known this as we had a few asthmatics who suffer with these 7. Being picky but a surfboard rack would be super handy when lots of guests have boards 8. Tea towel rail in kitchen kept falling off 9. Toilet on first floor the cistern kept getting stuck and leaving the water on unless the handle was wiggled around 10. The bunk bed room is really designed for kids, two full grown adults did not have the best time staying in them as there is no room for luggage, clothes or getting changed. 11. Wasn’t super clear that there was no downstairs toilet (there’s an en-suite one to the ground floor bedroom) not major but would be convenient Would say just a bit of general maintenance would be good. Overall we had a good time, especially as we spent most of the time surfing!

  • "Last minute booking."

Disappointed on arrival as bags of rubbish piled in front courtyard along with rubbish bin and generally a bit scruffy. Neighbours front courtyard compounded things as it was full of old building materials, 2 to 3 foot high as renovation in progress. Once inside house it was clean and catered for the family, 8 adults and 4 children very well. Plenty of room for all being together or for sitting quiet. Location was good as we walked to beach, town, supermarket and entertainment. There was some drilling and banging noises from the adjoined neighbour doing the renovation work usually starting around 8.30am. Obviously our Owner has no control over that, but perhaps people renting should be advised? We enjoyed our week in Newquay in this house and would use again / recommend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry about the rubbish collection, we believe this is because your booking came in at the last minute (on the day or your arrival), so the cleaners may not have been able to get to it in time, however we have asked them to double-check that rubbish collections have been successful from now on.
