  • "Our 4th stay in a year at the Mayflower."

Mayflower is a very comfortable, beautiful lodge, the hot tub is lovely. It is an ideal place to relax. We had booked for 14 nights as usual but unfortunately the alternator went on our car on the way to the lodge, trying to get a mobile mechanic was not easy, we booked the RAC mobile mechanic to do the repair, however due to difficulty sourcing the part the car did not get repaired until the day we were due to leave so we booked an extra week as had not travelled over 200 miles to just sit in the lodge or go for walks. We had a few food deliveries from Asda whilst there. We wanted a relaxing break and certainly got one and will go back as love the lodge watching the squirrels play and birds flying around by the woods. The cafe is a few minutes walk through the woods which serves lovely food. The location of Roadford Lake Lodges is ideal for trips out with Launceston being 10 minute drive. Tavistock 30 minutes away, Bideford 1 hour away, Plymouth 1 hour away and Padstow 1 hour away. All timings are approximate depending on time of day and traffic. The clothes airer still has broken wires which has been like it since our first visit in September 2023 but we took one from home to use so no problem for us. The Mayflower never fails to disappoint.

The lodge is lovely! Big choice of supermarkets a 12 minute drive away too. Wish we could have stayed longer but had to cut our stay short due to our car breaking down

  • "We have had an amazing week in Mayflower, helped by the beautiful weather."

The property exceeded expectations. More than enough room for 4 adults and 3 teenagers. Very well equipped and quality furnishings. The wine fridge still doesn't work and the clothes airer is also broken. Found it a bit strange that there was no terrestrial TV on on any of the TVs. Was fine for us as the weather was beautiful so we didn't watch much TV but may be difficult if weather was bad. They were all smart TVs though so able to watch Netflix, Iplayer etc.Wifi was also good. Hot tub was lovely but filter didn't seem that effective but was still lovely. Overall, this is a beautiful property and we had an amazing holiday..hoping to book again for next year!

  • "It's a lovely lodge and we enjoyed our stay at mayflower however there were some issues."

We arrived and the bathroom sink was blocked, the plug would not open thus the sink would not drain water, I reported this on Friday evening and was informed someone would come and look at it but we heard nothing for the rest of our stay, we did talk to reception but they informed they dont look after this lodge, I didn't feel inclined to chase it as I'd reported it already and managed to resolve it by removing the plug which was damaged on arrival. Secondary issue is around the general upkeep of the lodge, it was not that clean in terms of rug in the lounge being dirty, dusty blinds, etc. Additionally external door and windows were all sticky to use, probably require some lubrication.

  • "Our 3rd time staying for 14 nights each time since September 2023."

Mayflower is everything you want for a relaxing stay, it is luxurious with its furnishings, kitchen appliances and utensils. The hot tub is perfect for relaxing in late afternoon / early evening especially when you have been out for the day, we visit more places each time we stay including Bude, Newquay, Salcombe, Padstowe, Tavistock, Bideford and Launceston (which is where nearest Tesco is). The new privacy fence with towel hooks around the hot tub is great and just what was needed as the fence was missing on our last stay and we only had 4 weeks between stays. We love it so much we have already booked our next 14 night stay in September. Only criticism is the clothes airer has some of the wires missing, we brought a new one when there during our stay before this and took it back this time to use, as this is not a big issue for use. Once again I would definitely recommend the Mayflower, it does not have any direct neighbours and we think is in the best location on site.

  • "Our second 14 night stay at The Mayflower, the first being last September."

We love it so much there that we have booked another 14 nights in a few weeks time. The accommodation is 1st class, you have everything you need for a relaxing stay, it is so quiet. Only disappointed this time that the privacy fence around the hot tub is no longer there meaning anyone driving in or out of the site or walking down the road can see you. Would definitely reccommend this lodge.

  • "Lovely lodge with high end fixtures and fittings."

Beautiful peaceful location. Only negative point, when we increased our holiday to 2 weeks on the phone with Sykes we advised that different family members would be staying each week (2 1st week and 6 2nd week), we were advised that one of the beds which family had used 1st week would have a change of linen. Unfortunately that did not happen despite me phoning Sykes just after 3pm to check and I had to wash the linen myself. We will definitely book this lodge again if it is available.

  • "We had a lovely week at Mayflower."

Two families with four kids between us and lodge still felt roomy and spacious. Lodge facilities are good and really well equipped kitchen. The site is beautiful and was great to have use of the gym and to to be a few minutes walk from the playpark and lake. We loved the hot tub but do think it’s filter needed cleaning as there was leaves in it on arrival and as much as we tried to remove them, they seemed to stay in the tub for the whole week. The wine cooler is still broken as well and the high dry is snapped in places. All these are small things and we still had a lovely holiday but with no one ever on reception and maintenance coming now and then, we could have really done with someone on site we could ask about these things as they’re not big enough issues to call the owner. That would be my only feedback - we don’t really have a ‘middleman’ to sort out the smaller stuff. Aside from that - great lodge and location. We visited Lydford Gorge, Bude Beach, Chagford outdoor pool and Cotehele Hall - all roughly within 30/40 mins of the property and great family days out.

Clean and spacious. Fantastic setting and very quiet, beautiful walks and perfect for dogs. Would happily come back. Tesco deliver but takeouts don’t. Only small things were that the wine fridge didn’t work properly, and it is only a café nearby (although it is lovely) not a pub as Sykes states.

The only thing is the Lack of amenities on site and in the area. We didn’t realise we were so far away from everything. The upkeep of the holiday site was great, the lodge was homely and modern and the gym an added bonus. It’s the first time in Devon for us and we new it would be quieter than our usual holidays.Thank you for a lovely break.

The lodge itself was very well equipped and super comfy . The first aid kit came in useful when our grandson fell over , again very well equipped. The kitchen is a kitchen of dreams , everything you could possibly need . Very comfortable stay. Our only niggle is we thought the hot tub would of been better secluded, it's on full view of everyone that takes a walk towards the lakes , playground etc which tbh is everyone. This did prevent some of our party from using the hot tub , which was a little frustrating as we purposely booked a hot tub lodge . Would I recommend, yes , would I stay again , yes . All in all a relaxing long weekend

  • "Mayflower was lovely, very clean and comfortable, located in a very pleasant location."

The site was very good and there were lovely walks close by. On the whole the property was well maintained. When we arrived, the kitchen mixer tap was very loose and wobbly, however, my husband managed to tighten it up which solved the problem. We were a couple of items of cutlery short (not enough for 8 people) but we managed. The two tea towels provided quickly became soggy, maybe a few more could be provided? Luckily I'd taken some of my own, so it wasn't a problem, The other issue, was toilet rolls!! There was a small amount of toilet roll on each of the holders in the bathrooms but no spares which was a bit surprising. We had to make a special trip out to buy more. The cost of the accommodation was quite high and there should have been a good supply of toilet rolls provided. All in all these are very minor points, overall we were very happy with the accommodation and we would visit again.

The wine cooler didn’t work. The HDMI cable was missing for the games console and when we spoke to staff they said it had been missing for a while and they contacted the owner but they hadn’t bothered to replace it. You are right next to the cleaning hut and the staff were loud (some cheary… but still loud). They walk right past your hot tub throughout the day. The out door sofa was soaking wet on arrival. After 6 hours of doing the soaking customs in the sun, we had to bring cushions inside every night as the cover had a huge hole in. A number of properties had their fire alarm randomly go off… sometimes for hours. We won’t be returning to this property.

  • "First and foremost we had a very good holiday."

The Mayflower lodge was well equipped, clean, spacious and wonderfully decorated. Potential improvements: - If the information on what was already at the lodge could be more detailed we would have been able to use the limited space we had in our vehicle to bring only the things we needed (for example there is an iron and ironing board but this was not clear). - A lot of people will (and should) shower every day as well as using the hot tub. After one to two days this will likely mean the one towel per adult will be damp for the duration of the holiday. Either double the number of towels should be provided OR a tumble drier (the washing machine had a 'air and dry' function but this did not seem to dry anything but just leave it warm and damp). - The HDMI cable for the Playstation was broken (where it plugs into the TV) meaning we could not watch any of the DVDs we brought for the kids. - The TV itself did not seem to be able to recognize the wifi and hence we were unable to stream anything on the TV, which would have been helpful with young kids with us. - The shower in the en suite to the master bedroom has two different heads. One at it's maximum height is too low for adults. The other is missing some of the rubber fixings meaning the water pours through unevenly. - The curtains in the master bedroom were quite thin meaning it was difficult to sleep once the sun had come up (will effect some more than others - I am a very light sleeper!) - We do not think we were given the code to the gate which evidently you need to enter the park beyond a certain time. Thankfully someone was outside and knew the code so we were able to enter but it would have been sensible to provide that to new visitors (perhaps we had been and I missed it!) - The wine fridge was a little confusing. It seems to intermittently cool but never very well and sometimes not at all. Sometimes it would start beeping relentlessly until we started pushing buttons. Not sure if it was user error or if it is actually faulty.

  • "Fantastic week staying in Mayflower Lodge."

It was really well equipped with virtually everything provided that you would need - thankfully (due to the heatwave) we brought our own fans as it would have been unbearably hot without them! This may be something worth providing within the lodge? A couple of suggestions to make it perfect: 1. A parasol for the outside seating area. 2. One extra panel of willow screening to the front of the hot tub would provide some privacy. The only negatives, which we reported on the Sunday after we arrived (but didn’t get dealt with) we’re the plug not working in the bathroom sink - this made washing very difficult (and wasted a lot of water) and the broken toilet seat (needs retightening but the clamps can only be reached from inside the vanity panel) It was disappointing that these weren’t rectified during our stay. However we had a fantastic time and would certainly come again! The hot tub was wonderful (especially once we had the temperature lowered)
