  • "One major snag with this house: the stairs are narrow and steep and the banister rail only goes half way up."

I am 86 and found the stairs difficult and even dangerous as there is no handhold on the upper section. I could not occupy the downstairs bedroom as one of the family was awaiting a hip replacement so could not climb stairs at all. It would be a simple matter to fit a banister rail to the upper part of the stairs.

  • "I have been staying at Westpoint for 15 years, and previously found everything in excellent repair."

This year however, there where a few deteriorations as follows. The back kitchen door on to the patio has a non functioning handle, so both doors have to open as one.ed from the outside The french windows in the lounge appear not to work at all. The paint above all the windows in the bedrooms, most especially the mater, is flaking and peeling. There is a smell of drains from the utility, and downstairs shower room and bedroom. The washing line is extremely tangled and stretched, and doesn’t rotate at all. However, it must be said that the house offers excellent general comfort and facilities, the garden was beautifully maintained, and the cleanliness of the house in general was excellent. Had I not stayed there so often before, I may not have even mentioned the things that need some attention, and apart from the back door, did not affect the holiday in general.

  • "I was disappointed by the huge price increase this year."

It is a comfortable property with a lovely view and my family has been coming annually for over 10 years. We love it here. However for such a huge increase in price I would have expected a sunshade for the patio (I asked Sykes to request this from the owner when I made my booking in January and the said that they thought this would in place as there is no shade on the patio ). In addition, the hoover is so difficult to manoeuvre and does not pick up properly and has been in this condition for years. It is a real struggle to use as it really pulls on your back. The rug in the front room looks lovely but does not lie flat and is curled up at the edges and is a trip hazard. I had to take it up as I feared for the safety of my mother. Many of the saucepans and baking sheets were dirty and so I had to wash them prior to using and the laundry room was covered in sand on my arrival. Much of the crockery was chipped. These are just small niggles which I would not have ordinarily have mentioned and have only done so as it now costs £3000 a week to rent. For that price, people expect more. In addition, if you have a problem (there was a leak in the bathroom) and you call Sykes, they then have to call john bray and then get back to you. It is really an inefficient way of operating and wastes lots of tine. Sykes don’t seem to have any understanding of the property or area. This is just honest feedback - I love staying here but I thought you would appreciate an honest reflection of someone who loves this property and has been a grateful regular and respectful visitor to this home.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry about the issues caused during your stay. We are glad you enjoyed the property and hope to welcome you back to Cornwall soon. Property Owner

  • "He holiday bungalow we stayed in was really lovely and exactly what our family wanted."

As A professional landlord myself two things I would say need addressing is the pictures on the website need updating as the bathrooms have been modernised nicely albeit en-suite in bedroom is not finished so we could not shower properly in there. The other issue is the drains have obviously got issues with the fall and block easily before the waste gets to the cesspit. On arrival I could see tissue paper around the edges of the inspection covers by the front of the property but just presumed they had recently been unblocked and this was just mess left from workmen. When we realised they were blocked we called Sykes cottages to raise concern as the toilets were blocked and the downstairs shower was not draining so we could not use the facilities we called John bray and Sykes cottages 5 times to ask to get an engineer to unblock them. We were told on the first 4 phone calls this would be sorted and they would call myself back - they never called back, on the 5 and last time of calling the woman on the phone could see on the computer notes that we had called but nothing had been done about it. She also assured me it would get sorted and we never heard from her either. We left the following day to come home with the drains still blocked and still today no one has called back. Awful service as my family could not use the toilets or shower in the rental property and we had to go elsewhere. As a fellow landlord I hope the owner sorts this with the rental companies and maintenance as it was completely unacceptable and put a large dampener on the end of our holiday.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback following your stay at Westpoint, it is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay! We will speak with the owners to arrange for new pictures to be taken. I am really sorry that the issues with the drains was not resolved during your stay I will follow this up internally. Please be assured that this isn’t out normal standard of service and we will be looking into this – John Bray Cornish Holiday’s on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Great house and well furnished."

Beautiful location. Small things need fixing like the plug in the main bath doesn’t close properly so the water leaks out. The rugs are turning up at the edges and are a bit of a trip hazard. The hot water was hard to fathom initially, my husband worked out the timers were set wrong I think and no one to call as it was out of office hours. Don’t like to leave by 9.00 am on the last day so we left a day early.

Thank you very much for this feedback on your stay at Westpoint. We will be sure to take on board your comments in order to help improve the quality of future stays. In addition, we have now changed the departure time to 9:30 am, which we hope will allow you to stay for the full duration of your stay in the future. Property Owner
