  • "We loved our stay at Chygowlin but we do have some suggestions for improvement."

The heating remains a mystery to us. I believe it is controlled by the owners but unfortunately the house was fairly chilly in the evenings and early mornings. The wood-burner helped during the evening. The towel rail in the ensuite shower was hot in the middle of the night - not in the morning when needed. One of the doors of the shower in the ensuite bedroom came off its rail and this was reported to the housekeeper. Nothing was done to rectify this, though the housekeeper tried to replace it and wasn't surprised to hear of the problem. The entrance from the lane is very difficult to find - especially at night. A rock near the lane, painted white with house names on, would help. The driveway itself is dreadful - more a farm track than a driveway. However - the house itself is beautiful and the gardens wonderful. It was extremely comfortable, well appointed and very comfortable for a family holiday. Sun loungers would be good. We were fortunate in having lovely sunny weather but no loungers to relax on in the wonderful garden. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property and in returning for another visit.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comments, the shower screen has been repaired and the utility room has been painted. The timer for the heating has been reprogrammed and the thermostat has been locked, so that guests can now only adjust the temperature and not the timings. It seems that the timer was altered by previous guests, this has now been sorted and the heating should hopefully now be more than adequate. We are glad that you enjoyed the house and gardens and were fortunate to have sunny weather for your stay. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved this property, chosen for the quiet location and vicinity close to our daughter."

The owners clearly know and understand what matters. It was so relaxing, the gardens divine. We ate al fresco for all our meals. The layout was cleverly designed so as 6 middle aged to pension aged adults we all had a comfortable space. We celebrated 2 birthdays and a graduation whilst here. The housekeeper who worked so hard, was a delightful credit and so helpful as I was unsure I had got the correct house and only identified it by the double locked gates. It was too perfect for any negativity. However, our holiday was marred by a neighbor who came to the house, claimed to be a friend of the owners and complained about our dog barking. He is country dog, well behaved with good recall and barks very little. We could often hear dogs barking in the distance, but this did not concern us at all and only became aware of it after the visit from the neighbor. We would love to come again, but don't want to leave our lovely dog behind. The visit did put us all on edge. We are considerate and none riotous people, who don't play music loudly and would not wish our enjoyment to spoil the peace and tranquility of others. I wonder if he just has a dislike of holiday makers

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

The garden was beautiful, the property was very well equipped. We loved the welcome scones and cream. Although the weather wasn’t great the house more than made up for it.

  • "The house and garden were fantastic and we would very happily go again, including at Christmas if it wasn’t already booked!"

The location is also perfect for Truro, Falmouth and west Cornwall. Our only problem was that when the cooker stopped working no one from the west Cornwall branch of the management company responded to our midday call or the message we left. We fixed it ourselves that evening, fortunately. Otherwise, a top class property!

  • "This was our second year staying here."

We loved the property so much we also hired out the adjoining cottage for our parents to stay in. The children love the garden and the layout of the house means everyone has plenty of space and their own bathroom. It is absolutely everything you want a family holiday house to be and the local toiletries and scones on arrival are really nice touches.

  • "All as lovely as last year and thank you for filling the potholes!"

Wifi issue (BT problem not the house) was dealt with well and they checked on us regularly to ensure it was getting sorted. But not a huge deal in such an amazing setting with so many other things to do. We were able to create some more precious family memories.

  • "This was our second stay and we would like to return next year."

The only issue we found was that the internet connection to the wifi was not available due to an external fault and we happened to require a good network connect to work (as well as play) during our stay. The owners were understanding and as such we came to an agreement. Make sure your dogs have tick treatment too, it’s that time of year I guess and we had a visit to the vets whilst there. The gardens are maintained well, but long grasses on the edges still pose an issue when your furry friends brush up against them (this is not the owners fault, happens everywhere) Other than that, it was a great stay! During the stay we had seen in the gardens two road deer, a large eagle, a retuning green woodpecker, squirrels, bunnies and pheasants (I hope I spelt that correctly and not the other!)

  • "We have stayed here before with another company (who I must say were more attentive than Sykes) that aside, we knew what to expect."

A lovely surprise with the opening up of the additional bedroom, my son used it and was very pleased to have somewhere to do his work on the spacious desk. But, no thought has been given about the quantity of crockery, cutlery, cooking vessels no that the house can sleep 8, with the opening of this lovely bedroom. We tried a 'toast' on new years eve and there were only a few champagne glasses. This house is so right in so many ways but I do think that the kitchen inventory needs updating. My only gripe was the nasty neighbour, who had a go at my young son last time we stayed in 2020 for being out on the driveway, (he was aged 19!) this time we put balloons up at the end of the drive for 2-3 hours so that my elderly parents could find the opening between the hedges in the dimming light, he not only knocked on the door to ask us to remove them, when we asked if they could stay until mid afternoon, he agreed then promptly removed them! I consequently stood at the end of the drive for a hour in the rain waiting! it was unhelpful, and unnecessary, we were a family not a bunch of hooligans. He also annoyed us bringing his digger down to where our cars were parked and scaring all the moss off the parking areas, he worked away for ages churning up all the mud as it was very, very wet, we couldn't get from car to house without trampling it everywhere. A very thoughtless gentleman indeed who obviously does not like holiday makers.

  • "Our 3rd stay at Chygowlin and it was as good as ever."

Love this place, it really is our favourite place to be. Everything just feels right about this property. Absolutely spotless on arrival - shout out to the lady who does the cleaning and a mid holiday change of bed linen too. If we ever win the lottery we would make an offer but not much chance of that happening, unfortunately. Far enough off the beaten track for peace and quite yet not far from loads of great places to visit. Hoping to return soon - although the price has risen quite significantly since Sykes took over from Classic Cottages.

  • "Chygowlin House."

...what an amazing place to stay. This is the second time we've stayed there & we now consider it our Holiday Home!!! It's pretty much the perfect location - off the beaten track but not that far from all the essentials & it's fairly centrally located to see the numerous sights of Cornwall. We'll definitely be back again - the only thing that could improve the facilities is a hot tub!!!!

  • "A lovely private getaway for the family and furry friends!"

You’re really out there away from all! The house was comfy and spacious and the grounds were well kept. If you’re lucky, which we were, we spotted deer, foxes, pheasants and rabbits. At night, take a torch for a walk around as it doesn’t get any darker (this was great as no light made it even better for star gazing!). I would definitely love to book again.

  • "This is a beautiful property with fabulous well kept gardens, a large family kitchen and dining room, and spacious lounge."

The beds are comfortable and the outlook from all the rooms is onto the garden. The garden is NOT a shared garden with the adjoining property as a previous tenant had said, which caused a little discomfort as our neighbours that week thought it was (courtesy of that review) and rather spoilt our privacy for the first three days. The access road is a challenge, but the property is the reward. We had a deer in the garden and saw or heard various birds (owls at night) and the children had plenty of room to play in. All in all a total success.
