the hosts Alison & James were a delightful couple and could not be more helpful. The situation was perfect for our weekend stay in the area, and as for the amenities one could not have wished for more. Robin & Ann

  • "Such a lovely welcome and thankyou for the thoughtful refreshments."

We had a really nice time and we were especially pleased that everywhere was so clean. Just a thought for the door as we discussed and that would be a baby gate for hot days. Or maybe a folding gate to include the chairs so mummy daddy and baby dog can sit outside. Carley and Ron x

  • "Good property to chill out and unwind for few nights in total peace."

The village has a nice pub only 2 minutes walking from the property. Overall, all good, the bed was comfortable and big enough for 2 people. There is no door in the bathroom but a curtain; I guess for a couple it is ok, maybe not ideal for a couple of friends. No door or curtain between the bedroom and the living room/kitchen, but the lodge was dark enough to allow you to sleep well. Upon arrival, we found 2 scones with clotted cream and jam and a bottle of Prosecco. The owners have been in touch with us since before we got there to ensure everything was fine and also when we left to make sure there were no issues with the property.

  • "Sykes description of this property, in my opinion, is a misrepresentation."

It does not have a combination microwave ,but a normal one .. no dining table only a nest of tables .. we could not cook anything so had to eat out every day...when we ate at the property we had to eat off two trays... no bath only a shower .. no adequate storage facilities. .. we had to live out of our suit cases on the living room floor There was a small clothes rail and a basket filled with blankets, located in the living room .. the bed was positioned next to the wall so had to climb over each other. Storage was one underbed drawer full of blankets etc. To drive out of the property we had to reverse out on to the main road due to other vehicles that were in the driveway. . This is not a barn conversion,in my opinion, but a large garage conversion. .. the outside wall is next to the road and every time a vehicle goes over a grate in the road it sounds through the property .. the sofa was covered with two throws and was not stylish in any respect and uncomfortable. The property was cramped and not what we expected for £616 a week. .. The owners were very nice people and the welcome gift of cream scones and wine was a nice gesture .. we agree the property was clean and tidy but that does not make up for a weeks holiday accomodation which was not what we expected.. had a true description of the property been advertised we would not have booked it. ..Too small and cramped for two people. ... • "We had a really lovely time here."

Its quiet and peaceful, as its in the country. Right next to a pub, somewhere off road to park. Its also a central place for visiting the Cornish attractions. One thing might help, is that the satnav may take you through some very small country lanes on the way back from places, which can be interesting when coming towards a tractor! The owners were around if you had a problem, which we didnt. Thank you for the gifts!

About the location

LOSTWITHIEL

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
