"Tinners cottage is nice but a little dark inside."
The cottage was clean and tidy and information was left in folders about the cottage and surroundings. There clean towels placed on all the beds which were comfortable. The parking is ideal if you have a snallish car as it could be difficult if you had a big car due to the lane entering the cottage. The garden could do with the bushes and trees having a good prune and the pond needs clearing as you could not see it due to all the plants at the side. I had to wash several of the glass dishes which were stored under the stairs as they had mould on them and stank of damp/must. The cottage could with a few little upgrades like making the television a smart TV and moving the light switch for the main light as when we first went in had trouble finding it and then noticed it quite high near the ceiling this would be a problem if you were small. A proper wardrobe in the main bedroom instead of a coat and hat stand for your clothes. A little night light you could plug in downstairs at night as it is pitch black instead of switching the main light on and a decent mop and bucket as the head kept coming off the mop. Otherwise the cottage was nice and adequate for the two of us and our dog.
Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Tinners Cottage and found it to be clean, tidy and comfortable. We have a regular gardener who prunes the bushes and we ourselves did a lot of pruning recently, but as described, this is a 'woodland garden'. In terms of the understairs storage, we will look at storing the casserole dish in the kitchen cupboards instead. The main kitchen spotlights switch is at normal height directly on the right as you go into the kitchen. The switch higher up is for additional lighting if desired. Unfortunately there is no space in the bedroom for a wardrobe as well as the chest of drawers, but there are ample hangers to hang clothes on, either on the coat stand, or on the pegs on the wall or also on the back of the door. We will look into the mop head. Thanks again.

"It is a lovely cottage, but there are things that need improving."
There is a lovely garden but it’s quite neglected. The natural sunlight was blocked from the garden always due to so many overgrown trees. This was a shame because sitting in the garden wasn’t enjoyable as we couldn’t get any sunlight. Lots of overgrown bushes also. Blocked sunlight also made the cottage very dark in side. The facilities within the cottage were good. the description of being able to walk to local pub needs to be updated. It would be quite dangerous to attempt the walk as the roads are windy and there is no room or walking paths for pedestrians.
The smoke alarm needs to be moved . Everytime we used the cooker it went off. Also advised in booklet in cottage a full bag of wood would be supplied. This didn’t happen. On our first day, I banged my head on the stairs which was so painful. More obvious signs would be helpful.
The hardest things was manoeuvring in and out of cottage driveway. This really needs to be addressed. There were many close calls the entrance could be opened up more to make getting in and out of cottage easier.
Overall a pleasant stay, but would we go back- No.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we're so glad you had a pleasant stay and enjoyed our lovely cottage and garden. As described on the listing, this is a woodland garden and most people comment on how lovely and private it is. We have an amazing gardener who looks after it and does cut it back from time to time. Tinners Cottage is a 200 year old property set in Cornwall lanes, which are traditionally narrow and windy, cars do not drive fast in case there are pedestrians or other vehicles on the road. It is possible to open the kitchen window to alleviate issues with the smoke alarm and we do not tend to leave wood for the fire in the cottage when the weather is warm. We are sorry to hear that you banged your head, there are clear signs highlighted in yellow on the stairs so that this can be avoided. Finally, with regard to the parking, this is a country cottage and we have found that large vehicles such as Range Rovers/people carriers etc can access the drive safely

"My wife and I thought that Tinners Cottage was just what we wanted as a holiday base."
It was clean, well equipped and well situated for exploring Cornwall. A lot of thought had obviously gone into providing things to use on holiday. There were maps, suggestions for days out and even things like buckets and spades for families with young children. We really enjoyed our stay, would recommend it to our families and wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage if we come back to Cornwall again.
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're so glad you had a good holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back if you holiday in Cornwall again.

"First thing you see is jars filled with dirty oil which you are meant to use to dispose of used oil."
A clean one should be left if this is needed. Also the sides of the cooker should be cleaned (filled with various debris).
Second a dirty and filthy plunger was left in a cupboard we were meant to use for storage - not likely. That was disgusting.
Counter space was the small area between the cooker and the sink and in front of the toaster. You knew when your toast was ready as the smoke alarm went off each and every time even though the toast wasn't burnt.
Storage was very limited so you had to use the 'decorative' Rayburn. This should be removed and counter space and cupboards put in its place. Just glad we didn't lose anything down the back.
Fridge with icebox - should be a full size fridge and freezer given where the house is as you are not a short walk to a shop. We were food shopping most days.
Very little natural light downstairs so lights were used constantly. If you were under 5'2" you would have struggled to reach the light switches.
Clothes storage - four people had one set of three drawers and a coat rack with padded hangers in the double bedroom - no storage in the twin room.
The 'banister' was a pole with two brackets attaching it to the wall. If you had to grab it if you fell it would have become detached from the wall and you would have had a nasty fall.
The current shower partition should be replaced. It was difficult to move.
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your review, we're sorry to hear there were some things you weren't happy with and we do hope that despite this that you enjoyed your time at Tinners Cottage. For the benefit of all guests we'd like to cover some of these points in further detail. Firstly, the fat jars are deliberately provided for guests to pour their fat into instead of down the sink as this will cause blockages. We know this might not be what you're used to at home, but it's a necessity at Tinner's Cottage. We think that the plunger was in the cleaning cupboard, not a cupboard for guests' use, but we will check this. Regarding the smoke detector, it was placed by an electrician in that position and we follow his professional judgment on this. We are unable to move it to a different position as we want to ensure our guests safety at all times. We feel there is more than sufficient clothes storage in the bedrooms - to clarify - in the twin room we have a cupboard (with hanging rail and shelf) plus pegs (with hangers) on both the wall and back of the door. In the master bedroom there's a large oversized chest of drawers, a coat stand (with hangers) and more hangers on the wall and back of door. Finally, the shower partition is functioning correctly, it is a 'slide' one which is labelled to slide it, and the bannister is regularly checked to ensure safety and we can confirm it is very securely fixed into the wall - it will not become detached by grabbing it.

I'm not going to shave in a sink or wash my face ,as I look down to the right and see a dirty sink plunger ,also there's a fithy sponge in the bathroom cabinet-surely your cleaner should have seen that . I would not stay at your cottage again .
Regards Paul Hill .
Many thanks for your feedback. The sink plunger is located on the floor and should therefore not affect your use of the sink however, we will ask our housekeeper to check the cleanliness of this on their next visit. The bathroom cabinet you mention is in fact the housekeepers cleaning cupboard where all cleaning products are stored, there is an open vanity unit under the basin for guests toiletries, as well as on the window sill. We would like to reassure all of our guests that we take the cleaning of Tinners Cottage very seriously and this is reflected in previous feedback.

"The house is quite cozy and quaint."
However, it would need to be better maintained. Thorough cleaning of the kitchen or bathroom is absolutely necessary. The garden would also appreciate more affection. So the price is not appropriate at the moment.
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you found Tinners Cottage cozy and quaint. Our caretaker is meticulous about cleaning, and the property is thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. This was checked mid-July and found to be spotless as usual. The garden was pristine as checked recently on our recent visit. However, as described, it is a woodland cottage garden, so there are trees, leaves, twigs, etc, as expected. The gardener prunes back shrubs and mows both lawns and visits very regularly.

"We chose Tinners Cottage because of the ‘Direct Access’ to the moor quoted in the description, unfortunately it was so overgrown with stinging nettles and brambles it was impossible to even see where the access was."
We took photographs. This continued into the garden, the upper area in particular, we couldn’t check out the security for our dogs thoroughly, although we found it isn’t secure. On arrival for the late check in time of 4pm we found that the floors were soaking wet, real puddles on the stone floor. We had to wait outside with the door open for them to dry for over half an hour. The mop provided was inadequate for the job as it can’t be squeezed dry. It was still wet the following Friday! As we were expected out by 0930 on departure day this effectively reduced our stay to 6 days. It was particularly hot during our stay so we were surprised to find 10.5 tog duvets on all the beds. We contacted Sykes who were very helpful however the owner said this was down to lack of storage and there were no summer weights available. No need to keep them onsite but change seasonally or put in vacuum sacks under the beds. The mattresses are really cheap and uncomfortable as are the pillows, I notice feedback to another guest that they are changed regularly but if they are cheap in the first place this is irrelevant. It may be difficult to getting conventional mattresses up the very steep stairs so maybe worth trying memory foam ones. Buy cheap buy twice. The poor nights sleep we had along getting with bad backs spoilt our stay. The TV is failing, red horizontal lines appear that spoil the picture. The very steep stairs require a safe banister, however the one provided seems to be a broom handle, the fixing at the top is very loose and we each caught our hands on it at various times. It isn’t safe. The banister on the other side doesn’t go the length of the stairs so is irrelevant. Does the owner do their own cleaning? If not then do check up, there were several parts neglected. I cleaned the window frame in the rear bedroom and the mirror before I could see in it to dry my hair. There are some nice touches in the limited space available but it seemed to us it has been neglected and just those last bits of comfort would make so much difference.
Thank you for your feedback. The access to the moor is available directly from the country lane connected to the property. There is no problem with direct access to the moors from here and is a lovely walk along the lanes. The garden is secure but it is never advertised being dog proof. Depending on the dog they could be able to escape any type of enclosure. The water on the floor accumulates on the normal grooves of the tiles and the mop provided is a sponge mob. Check in and check out time are standard but the owners will move the check out to 10am for future bookings. The duvet, mattresses and pillows are regularly upgraded but personal preference heavily influence one’s comfort.

"No clean linen for the second week of our 2 week stay No wood for wood burner Cottage was cold and rather dark."
We are looking for somewhere to stay at Christmas but think Tinners Cottage may be too cold. Access to the parking space was tight No facilities to recycle, the houses around us had bags for cardboard, tins etc. Sykes Cottages response to a faulty smoke alarm was prompt and efficient
Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your stay at Tinners Cottage. The owner has informed us of the following - the housekeeper provides a mid week clean and fresh linen, if requested, it is assumed in the warmer months the fire is not used and therefore logs were not supplied for your stay, unfortunately TInners Cottage closes for winter and would not therefore be available for Christmas, there are 2 bins and 1 recycling bin, there are clear notes in the cottage manual regarding the recycling of refuge. For Tinners Cottage the housekeeper removes the rubbish, not the council, hence why the boxes are different to the residents.

"The cottage was very nice but very difficult to actually driving into the property."
. there is a spring running across the little lane and the hedges are overgrown and very bumpy…. Bedrooms …very little storage for your clothes double wardrobe in the main bedroom had a padlock on.. bedroom two little storage , had to keep the clothes in the suitcase..
Many thanks for your comments. We are so happy that you liked the cottage. In answer to your other comments, the spring is minor and even in the middle of Winter with heavy rainfall has never been a problem. Alternative access can be via the other end of the road to avoid the spring if desired. The country lane is typically Cornish in nature, but people carriers have been driven down it without a problem. Cars can also be parked at the end of the tarmac road a very short walk away if desired. The master bedroom has an oversized, wide chest of drawers as pictured, giving ample storage room for 2 people's clothes in that bedroom and there is plenty of hanging space with hooks on the back of the door, a further row of wooden hooks with coat hangers on the wall and a large coat stand with hangers on. The cupboard in the master bedroom, is as labelled, the caretaker's cupboard where it is necessary to store essential items needed for the cottage. The second
bedroom has a row of hooks with coat hangers on the wall and pegs on the back of the door. There is also a hanging rail with hangers inside the fitted cupboard and ample space for clothes storage, but we're sorry if you felt this wasn't enough for your requirements.

This cottage is so cute and homely. The little touches made it a great stay. Dvds, games and books. Wifi was poor and only possible to check emails and not possible to watch anything online but we didn’t mind. The garden is beautiful and the fire made a great touch.
The local pub in Minons serves good portions of nice food, the farm shop 5 mins away was very helpful and Inkies is a nice place for coffee and breakfast after a walk at the falls.
The cottage is well placed for visits to Cornwall, including Eden, gardens of helligan, the beaches and walks on the moors.

"Such a lovely pretty holiday cottage, and extremely cosy in the evening when the woodburner gets going."
We were there in 2020 October half term and experienced the wettest and windiest week of the autumn so far - Tinners Cottage is well located so we still found lots to do, visiting all the usual harbours and touristy attractions, including a trip to Lands End and St Michael's Mount. Please be aware that the bathroom is downstairs - not a problem for us, and at this time of year is on the cool side! Kitchen is well kitted out with everything we needed, fridge is a small under-the-counter size fridge (with an ice box) and we were able to use the front porch area to keep cool any surplus vegetables/fruit/eggs etc - we cooked quite a few family meals! If you prefer a plumper pillow for sleeping, you'd be advised to pack your favourite from home, as we did. Wifi worked well and the parking space is huge, enough for two cars easily, once you negotiate the narrow lane. There are ample board games, books and DVDs to keep all ages amused if there's nothing on the telly. The outside space is amazing, but due to the time of year, we couldn't make use of it all sadly. The cottage is located in a very peaceful location, no traffic noise and ideal if you want to just get away from it all!
Thank your for your wonderful review, we're glad you enjoyed staying at our cottage. Just to clarify, the fridge is a standard sized fridge that you will find in most holiday cottages of this size. The bathroom has a heated towel rail and also there is a highly efficient fan heater on the wall that gives instant heat for the very cold months in Winter when the bathroom can feel cooler. The plumpness of pillows is very much a matter of personal taste, but we will look at replacing some of them if needed, at the end of lockdown. As you suggest, if you have exacting requirements on this, best to take your own. Thanks again for your great review.
