  • "Nice enough apartment, just lacked some finishing touches."

The killer for me though was the broadband. I had to do some work whilst visiting for the week the broadband speed made that impossible. 5mbps download and less than 1mbps upload is not up to today's requirements. Better broadband is available in the area.

  • "Apartment is in a handy location, walking distance to Charlestown and a few minutes drive to Asda, Tesco, Lidl or Aldi."

The apartment has plenty of space and the kitchen/ lounge area was bright and comfortable . Overall the apartment was clean and well maintained but big cobwebs on the ceilings and tops of furniture and units were definitely not done for a while.I think that was mentioned in a recent review in February, alas if I had read it sooner I would have realised the washing machine wasn’t working. I did send a text asking how to switch it on but didn’t get a response, but then when I saw that review and didn’t try again also as we didn’t require the DVD player I can’t say if that was working or not. Regarding the other reviews we didn’t cook much but the kitchen had the basics to cook with, let’s say you might not be able to bake a cake but you can certainly put a roast dinner together if needed. Personal choice, but again reading earlier reviews about the double bed being soft etc. We would agree it was way too soft to be considered comfortable as we are used to a very firm bed but this is again is our personal choice.

  • "The apartment is lovely, modern and spacious."

It was mostly clean, but there was a lot of dust under the furniture and some cobwebs on the ceiling. The key code was late coming through, but after prompting, it was texted before we arrived at the apartment. It was tricky trying to work out how to set the heating initially, but we managed to work it out. However, we couldn't get the DVD player to work or the washing machine which was completely dead. We texted the owner, but got no response. The kitchen wasn't particularly well kitted out, so we avoided cooking most of the time sadly. We have stayed in better equipped holiday homes in Cornwall.

The plug was fixed closed and we could not use the sink. We had to share the other bathroom sink which was inconvenient. We contacted the owners on the day we arrived and the next two days and did not even get a reply. This is not good when we paid over £900 for the weeks rental.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the apartment."

The apartment is well equipped. The balcony next to the main bedroom is fantastic. Sleeping with the door open on hot nights is lovely. Main bathroom is a fantastic size. Decor is lovely and reflects the area perfectly. Laminate floors are lovely as well. The private beach is beautiful and that’s where we spent most of our holiday. Minor moans-the front room carpet could do with a clean and the main bedroom carpet has several hair straighter burns on it.

Only downside is you have to drive to nearest shops for groceries etc, so make sure you take everything with you. The private beach is amazing!!!!!!! A lovely holiday!!!!!!!

  • "We have stayed in this area many times and appreciate how convenient everything is."

The property is ok but with some maintenance could be fabulous. The designated parking spot is partially covered with vegetation so if your car is longer then 8 feet you will be sticking out or parking out on the road. The mattress is very old and so soft you can feel the bed frame. The bathroom light switch only works sometimes and can turn off without warning. The patio doors off the lounge are a nice touch but were so dirty you couldnt see out at all so I took pity on them and cleaned them inside and out. We stayed here late 2017 and reported all of these faults after our stay. We wont be staying here again there are better value properties nearby.

Thank you for your feedback and although we normally don't respond we always rectify any issues which have been raised. To go through your points we have now fixed what was, annoyingly, an intermittent fault with the light switch. The car parking vegetation should be looked after by Belmont Properties, the site landlords, as part of their service charges and I have chased them following your comments - they have now assured me they will rectify the problem. Unfortunately due to the ongoing building work nearby there has been a problem with the dust - we have asked a local window cleaner to come more often. As regards the mattress it is not actually 'very old' - we purchased the apartment brand new in 2015 and with it all new furniture - most mattresses are recommended to be changed every 8 years and our plan is to replace in line with this. However we will now check given your feedback. Property Owner

  • "1) We tried to recycle as per instructions in the welcome pack."

Someone else put their recycling in the bin marked 18, which we believe to be our rubbish bin. Having searched the bin store we could find no other recycling receptacle. There was only 1 black bag in the apartment which was already in the bin. So we were unable to use a bin bag for our recycling. We removed other people's recycling from our bin, including glass bottles. Other holiday lets had full sized wheelie bins for their recycling. 2) The light in the main bathroom flashed when turned on, continued to flash and then turned itself off. We text the housekeeper, earlier in the week about this, but received no reply. 3) A tea towel was left in the washing machine, damp. we rewashed and ironed it, but it was not ours so we left it in the apartment. 4) Ice cream and frozen vegetables were left in the top shelf of the freezer from previous tenants. These items were not ours. 5) we cleaned tomato ketchup off the strut between two kitchen cabinets. 6) The drain in the en suite shower was VERY slow to drain. 7) The parking space for No.18 is difficult to access because of over hanging vegetation. 8) When checking our bedrooms to ensure we had all our belongings we found mattress protectors under the bed which we put in the bath with other laundry. We had no mattress protectors actually on our mattresses.

It was lovely, very high spec, warm and cosy. My particular worry was the comments about the bed but it was very comfortable and we both slept very well. The apartment was very clean and hand wash provided at every sink. The area is lovely, Charlestown was around a 15 min walk and had some lovely pubs, all with very good hygiene in place and great food. Recommended is the steak night at the Rashleigh Arms, but you will need to book. It was delicious. One note, the coast path between the complex and Charlestown is closed due to rock falls so you need to access the coast path going east from Charlestown.

Good location and nice beach. Double mattress needs replacing - it's completely gone on one side and not comfortable on either side. Would be helpful to be informed that hot water is not turned on rather than finding out after the first day's walking that the shower is cold! Would be useful to be given information about recycling. Also would be useful to be given clearer information about what is provided or not provided in terms of bedding, towels, soap, loo roll etc. - we were told to bring certain items that were needed but not others.

  • "Location was excellent with the little beach and lovely town of Charlestown within walking distance."

Nice to have a parking space and a little outdoor patio, and plenty of storage for our clothes, kid toys, etc. The kitchen amenities were disappointing, especially given the greater need for self catering in times of Covid. The freezer needs a serious defrost, there were no coffee making means at all (we bought-- and left there-- a small french press), no baking tray, and very little by way of tools for food prep, pots & pans; and what was there was pretty poor quality - like an afterthought.

  • "Great accomodation in fantastic location."

Definitely recommend trips to Charlestown, Mevagissey, Fowey, Eden project and Lost Gardens of Helligan. Flat was spotlessly clean when we arrived which was reassuring in light of covid pandemic. Private beach was perfect with sand and clear water and plenty of space for social distancing (although no shade so take an umberella if it is hot). Takes about 10mins to walk down from the flat and fairly steep path so not ideal for those with mobility issues (steps down to last bit of beach). Flat was very comfortable and kitchen well stocked for cooking an evening meal. Dishwasher would have been a good addition. The email did say they would provide soap and surface spray but neither was there when we arrived so had to buy our own. We were also asked to take duvets and pillows/ sheets due to covid as well a our own towels. I am glad we did as the only negative about the flat was the bedding. The mattress covers were tatty and didn't fit well and the pillows (although clean) were about an inch thick. The flat was furnished to a high standard and so I am suprised owners have not responded to the numerous complaints about the bedding as this really lets the place down. That said if you are taking your own it doesn't really matter. You might want to take matress covers as well. The balcony was a welcome addition although the patio furniture is rather tatty and could do with replacing. There is a second smaller patio area off the lounge which is really too small to use but does allow some privacy when opening the french doors to let some air in if it is hot. Several local takeaways deliver on Just Eat if you fancy a night in. Would have been 5 stars across the board if bedding and patio furniture had been up to scratch.

30 pm on Friday before Saturday book in - Feel that Covid has been used as a catch all excuse - it is not unreasonable to want confirmation / assurance earlier than 7,30 pm on night before (what about overseas guests ?) Overall impression is that unnecessary niggles that could easily be rectified with a little effort - overall score 6.5/10, could easily have been 9/10 for not a lot of hassle or cost from owner

Spacious and with a private beach, it did not disappoint, the cleanliness of the apartment was average. However, we complained about the standard of bedding on the day we arrived. The quilt cover had seen better days was bobbly and pilling,it did not close at the bottom as the press studs did not work. The pillows were of poor quality and well used. There was no protective mattress cover or pillow covers which we found unacceptable. We did find a mattress cover in the airing cupboard which we put on the mattress but it was worn and torn at the corners. Louise, our contact, refused to do anything. We contacted John Pier in customer services who spoke to us once but thereafter never got back to us. We have sent photographs and emailed the company with no reply. It was also very close to Charlestown (5 min walk) which was important for us, and easy access to lots of things to do. We loved staying here, the only downside would be that there are currently building works being done across the road, which would wake us all up at 8am with drilling, diggers and loud beeping. However there are issues with the hot water in the showers. The temperature of the hot water in the shower in the en-suite was always luke warm at best. After reading the reviews we then used the main bathroom for showering but that shower also had issues - it appear the hot and cold water do not mix correctly. The apartment is well located and although the access to the beach was through a gate for which you are given a code thus giving the impression that it is a private beach. Once outside the gate you can go down to the beach or up to the coastal path and as the coastal path is open to everyone so is the beach.

We struggled a little with the heating system and the shower in the en-suite was always freezing cold and therefore never used. The shower in the main bathroom was fine. There was no hairdryer in the property and therefore one had to be bought. A dishwasher would also have been useful - nobody wants to do washing up whilst on holiday and there is plenty of room for one.
