  • "Lovely property, for us it had the wow factor as soon as you walk in."

Really lovely decor, garden is great with the decking, and the furniture. Would have been nice to have cushions, although I understand the issue when it rains. The overhanging parasol, hot tub (not in use) are very dirty, but we didn’t use it so it didn’t bother us. Lovely touch with having sky glass. The property is in a great location. Very modern appliances in the kitchen, problem was there were no instructions to show you how to use them. Had to google how to use a quooker. Beds were very comfy. Very close to Porth beach and lusty glaze. I would say a book with local information and how to use the appliances would be incredibly useful. Lovely welcome gifts. I would recommend, however there are issues around appliances you have to overcome but everything else about the property overcomes this, oh and it’s a cottage with low doorways so remember to duck.

  • "The cottage is in a great location and has everything you need."

It just needs a bit of TLC, there was a plastic bag full of dead plants & old leaves left on the patio. The old rusty bbq with torn cover needs removing. The cottage would look so much nicer with a coat of paint where the holes have been filled. The cottage looked clean on arrival, however there were a lot of big cobwebs on the beams above the beds and we found a pink dental container and was very dusty underneath the bed. This did not spoil our holiday and we would stay in the cottage again due to the location, comfy beds and its quirky charms. With a few small tweaks this could be a perfect holiday let.

  • "If you are looking for a beautiful little cottage for a family not 2 couples and don’t mind road noise then this is perfect as the proximity to the beach is great."

However we don’t live near a noisy road at home so didn’t find the garden very relaxing at all, with the constant drone of the busy road at the end of the small garden. I tried to sit out once to read a magazine but after 30 minutes found myself retreating inside. The garden was not well maintained with weeds and moss all over the patio and decking. We booked this cottage as it was close to the beach but more importantly had a hot tub for our teenagers. Apparently an email was sent out a 2 weeks before our stay from Sykes which I did not see to say the hot tub had been taken away but was clearly in the garden. The owner did refund £100 as compensation, which I didn’t think was fair as that was not even 10% of the holiday cost. Sykes attitude was that if I had read the email I could of rebooked somewhere else inferring it was my own fault. Not great customer service! The small details of crockery in the kitchen are beautiful with all mod cons but there is a definite need for attention in the rest of the cottage where walls have been patched up and not repainted. I also say for a family holiday because the upstairs bathroom which is visible from the kitchen area on a low balcony can be seen. The door to the bathroom has wood panels with gaps you can clearly see in and out. The bedrooms was very warm at night so I called the number on the very basic information sheet to ask for summer duvets as we had very heavy thick feather and down Duvets. We was told that they will ask the owner but we did not hear anything back so ended up taking the duvet off and just having the duvet cover with beach towels on as a extra layer. As no blankets or extra pillows are provided. Also I’m surprised they ask you to strip the beds as the mattresses clearly need replacing. They may have feather toppers which only make you warmer in bed but the mattresses are very blood/urine stained. I can only say it’s a good job I was not aware of this until the end of our stay. I think these issues need addressing before anyone else stays at Pilgrim cottage. I may sound very negative but I have stayed in lots of holiday cottages and if you wouldn’t return somewhere then people need to be informed. On a positive note Porth beach and surrounding areas was great for long walks and visiting other parts of Cornwall.

  • "We had a great time at this characterful cottage, it’s been superbly modernised to a very high standard."

The few issues we had on arrival were dealt with quickly and efficiently with no problems. Loved the sun trap garden, it has sunshine throughout the whole day! Situated in a perfect spot to walk to Porth Beach and Lusty glaze both only minutes away and 2 pubs serving meals only few minutes walk as well. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday!

  • "We had a week at Pilgrim Cottage but it was overshadowed by several issues."

The property should have had an information folder especially for the appliances. There was no kettle but we did not realise the boiling water was in the actual tap as have never used one before. No instructions as to how to use the oven and hob. Also did not realise the microwave was in fact in what we thought was a double oven so missed out on having that all the week. The washing machine and dryer were in locked shed in garden so could not use that facility and hot tub did not work so engineer came out to repair it but it meant we could not use it for several days. The cottage is well suited for the beach and would stay again now we are familiar with it’s appliances.

Hello, I am sorry to hear you had these issues. It’s no excuse but this is the first time we’ve let the property and we are learning the do’s and don’t as we go along. We will look to correct these issues going forward. Thanks for your constructive feedback. Property Owner
