  • "The Retreat was lovely and the kitchen very well equipped with plenty of storage space and crockery etc."

An airfryer would make a welcome addition to the variety of cooking appliances if anything was to be added. The seating was comfortable and various and the outdoor seating a great suntrap although the traffic noise was a surprise. The wash basin was slow to drain and the shower a little under power but Cornwall tends to have water issues and no doubt the private system affected this. Overall an excellent stay, a good base to explore the area and the hosts were friendly and helpful.

Hi Deborah Thank you for the review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. Just to clarify, we are on a private water system and our water supply isn't always the most powerful, however the shower is a standard electric shower and works as you would expect. I'm suprised you had an issue with road noise, as we are in a small village with minimal traffic. We do occasionally get the odd car or motorbike that is louder than normal and the odd tractor, but it has never been an issue. Hope to see you again in the future... Kind regards Andy & Wendy Property Owner

Having the friendly, well stocked, village shop with post office so close by was a positive. A good location for visiting many places especially the Eden Project. Only negative was that there was very little washing up liquid left, (we didn’t use the dishwasher) and only one toilet roll left for a week’s stay.

Hi Lesley Thank you for the lovely review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. • "Good retreat in a peaceful setting."

Bags of room for two and well equipped. The bedding was a disappointment as not of the standard expected. Crisp cotton sheets and duvet cover would have gained 5 stars. No contact at all with the owners which seemed a bit unfriendly.

Hi Valerie Thank you for the review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. Apologies if the bedding was not to your liking. We do use quality bedding and in all honesty, this is the first time in 3 years that anyone has commented negatively. We do normally speak with all guests at some point during their stay, not least to ensure everthing is OK. Normally we try and catch guests when leaving or returning to the property, but we kept missing you. Also we do not like to unnecessarily disturb guests when they are inside the property, so as not to intrude. To say we seemed a bit unfriendly is rather unfair. We live next door, so equally there was nothing to stop you coming to say hello as other guests have! As a side note, the property is supposed to be left as you found it (clean & tidy). It was dissapointing for us to find the property rather unclean after you departed. Whilst we don't expect it to be spotless, we also don't expect to find the kitchen bin left full of rubbish and food waste, the cooker hob covered in grease and detruius all over the floors. Kind regards Andy & Wendy Property Owner

Hi Sheila Thank you for the review - it is very much appreciated. To clarify, the 'steep step' is 20cm in height from ground level (not much more than a normal staircase riser). In the lounge area, there are 2 sofas and 2 chairs (which can be repositioned) providing ample seating positions in the evenings. Unfortunately, weather conditions and temperature are out of our control, but the 2 large patio doors can be opened in the lounge area, should it be uncomfortably warm. Kind regards & best wishes... Everything was very clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable and the shower great. The outdoor space was relaxing with our own little table. It would have been nice to have a couple of teabags to welcome us in the empty teapot along with the biscuits that were available.having arrived on a Saturday and no time to go grocery shopping.. I would suggest the future guests be told to open the first gate to avoid confusion and going down a very rough road.

Hi Sharon Thank you for the lovely review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. Apologies for the missing tea bags. We do normally top-up the container with tea, coffee and sugar sachets, so guests can have a drink upon arrival, but we must have forgotten to do so on this occasion. With regards to property directions, these are provided as part of the booking information and it clearly states that we are the first gate on the left after entering the driveway from the road. Very quiet, with a beautiful garden. The only thing I could say is that it is rural, a lot of narrow single drive lanes with few passing places for approx. five miles before you reach a main road, so remember to steer clear of school times and busy times. Other than that it’s amazing.

Hi Peter Thank you for the lovely review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. • "Directions to the venue and information provided were really good."

The kitchen was excellent with every piece of equipment you could need and all seemed new. However there were problems with drainage in the bathroom sink and the water pressure in shower was very poor. Some additional heating in the large kitchen living room would have been good as the evenings were very cool.

Thank you for your review of our holiday retreat. We are glad that you found the property well equipped, however you appear to have experienced some issues during your holiday, which is a shame, but we shall try to address them... The bathroom sink drainage issue was a minor blockage, caused by what appeared to be a concentrated toiletry product that had congealed in the sink plug hole. The same product was also in the shower tray waste and on the used bathroom towels. We have tested the shower, which does seem to be working normally for a standard electric shower, but we will continue to monitor it just in case. The kitchen/living area has 3 centrally heated radiators and a thermostat control in the kitchen area to adjust room temperature, with operating instructions in the welcome book. We don’t know if you adjusted the thermostat control to suit your needs, but perhaps this was the issue. Unfortunately, we were not aware of these issues during your stay, so we were not able to help or resolve them whilst you were here. Incidentally, we did briefly speak to you on day 3 of your holiday (to check everything was ok) and all was well. Kind regards Andy & Wendy Property Owner

Our hosts,Andy and Wendy, were welcoming and lovely people, who made our stay memorable and the anti Covid measures they had installed could not be faulted. We had a superb stay and would recommend the The Old Vicarage Retreat as a place to stay.

Apologies for the late reply and thank you for the lovely review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. Hope to see you again in the future... Kind regards Andy & Wendy Property Owner

  • "The Retreat is an idyllic property which is peaceful and quiet despite being adjacent to a Bed and Breakfast property."

The standard of decor and facilities provided are second to none. The patio doors open out onto a patio which has a bistro table and chairs for guests use. It is flooded with light in the morning and a welcoming place to return to after days out. The owners are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. I cannot find any faults at all to comment on within the property. We loved it.

It’s clean and tidy and had all the facilities that we needed. The owners were not particularly helpful or friendly but this did not affect our stay.

The Old Vicarage Retreat is located in the quaint village of Luxulyan in the heart of Cornwall and provides an ideal base for exploring the vast Cornish peninsula.

Although set in a peaceful village, the A30 is within easy reach and the location provides an ideal base, with many places of interest only a few minutes’ drive away.

This idyllic retreat offers a wonderful escape for couples eager to explore an area steeped in history, with beautiful surroundings, including the Luxulyan Valley (a World Heritage Site) and close to the south coast.

Following an afternoon’s ramble, pop off your walking boots and relax within the open plan living space, complete with plush seating from which you can relax and unwind into the evening.

The contemporary kitchen houses all you could need and the large range cooker is sure to inspire some home cooking.

On warm and pleasant days, why not bring the outside in by taking advantage of the large patio doors and perhaps enjoy a relaxing evening meal on the patio, whilst planning your next adventure.

Discover the plush bedroom as you retire for the evening, settling into the welcoming king-sized bed and maybe watch a show from the large wall-mounted Smart TV.

A new morning and the inviting en-suite with walk-in shower will set you on the right foot for another day of exploring.

Luxulyan is a small village, yet it does offer a small local shop, post office and village pub.

The shop and post office are a minute’s walk away, The Kings Arms 5 minutes’ walk away and renowned for its friendly atmosphere and selection of local ales.

With the Luxulyan Valley, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum, Charlestown (famous for the filming of Poldark), Fowey and The Lost Gardens of Heligan all close by, and the magnificent South and North coasts of Cornwall to explore - this really is the ideal base for a very special holiday.

Get to know your surroundings even more by venturing along the Saints’ Way that runs from Fowey on the South coast, through the Luxulyan Valley and onto Padstow on the North Coast, or perhaps Bodmin Moor, opening up miles of wild landscapes across rugged terrain, or maybe head to Helman Tor, home to a patchwork of wildlife rich habitats across more than 500 acres - it’s a real hidden gem.
