  • "We have stayed at Chy-Nans on numerous occasions and are always happy to return."

Many thanks to Kay and Sue for the change of bed linen and towels for our second week. It was much appreciated. The micro-wave was a bit noisy when we used it and wondered if it was on itsway out??

  • "No welcome pack or guide to the property, the first time we have stayed and there hasn't been one."

Just a few sheets on recommendations for days out/local restaurants would have been nice. Hot water issue meant we could not boost water and need to keep immersion on 24-7 to be able to shower which seemed wasteful on energy. Toilet seat is fitted incorrectly and property could do with a fan or two as it gets hot at night and windows being open in a bungalow wasn't ideal with the openings. Other than that basic equipment for a stay as expected.

  • "Upon our arrival in 19th July at 6:30 PM with my two young children, we discovered that there was no hot water available two hours later."

My son was in the shower at the time, and I had to heat water using the kettle to ensure he could wash. I immediately called Sykes' emergency line, but I was told that no one could be sent out to fix the hot water problem because it was nighttime. I was promised that someone would come the next morning, but no one arrived, although the hot water resumed working by then. Unfortunately, this issue recurred two days later when we returned from the beach around 9:30 PM. Again, there was no hot water, making it impossible for my children to shower after playing at the beach. I called the emergency service once more, only to receive the same response as before. The hot water started running again the following morning, but this pattern repeated itself on our seventh night. Additionally, several other issues severely impacted our stay: Oven Not Working: The oven was inoperable throughout our stay, limiting our ability to cook meals. Uncomfortable Bunk Bed: The bank bed was very uncomfortable for my children, affecting their sleep quality. Despite notifying you multiple times and emphasizing that I had young children with me, the problem with the hot water was not effectively addressed, and the overall quality of our accommodation was unacceptable. I believe this situation was handled poorly and does not reflect the standard of service I expected from Sykes Cottages.

  • "A very pleasant area to stay in."

There were a few that could be improved on. The pillows were not comfortable. Some were old and flabby and some were very hard and gave me a stiff neck. I know there have to be be made of synthetic materials these days because so many people have but you can get softer ones. I forgot to bring my own pillow, which is filled with feathers and much more comfortable, so I missed this. I would like to have had a bread knife as I like a variety of loaves not always sliced ones. There was no omlette pan - a small one for a two egg omlette and no fish slice to use on non stick pans, only a metal one which can damage non stick saucepans. The cooker was very modern and complicated but then I am used to gas.

It is convenient for Falmouth and the local beaches. Internally it is clean and comfortable bur we were disappointed not to be offered a change of bedding and/or towels as we stayed in the property for 2 weeks. Externally the patio area is in need of a little tlc as it is somewhat weed infested and uninviting to sit out on.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you weren't offered a change of linen and towels, this is something we will discuss with our housekeeper. Location was great and convenient. Initially wasn't sure about the fact that it was a holiday village but it was quiet and the facilities were good. Only complaint is the WiFi. The speed was terrible. 0.3Mb per second download speed. It would barely load a web page. This is not really acceptable. We restarted the router a number of times but had not joy. I am not sure if it should be more or if there is something wrong with the setup. Anyway, it should not be advertised as having WiFi with these speeds. Or at least tell us that the speeds are slow so we can come prepared. Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry that you experienced some difficulties with the Wi-Fi during your stay. We haven't received any previous comments regarding the Wi-Fi . We have just come back from the property ourselves and the Wi-Fi worked fine during our stay. Aside from this we are glad that you enjoyed the property and its location. UPDATE: Following your feedback, we have now had a new router installed at the property, so any issues should now be resolved. Property Owner

The 'garden village' location was peaceful and attractive, though we were there out of the main season. We found the property was sufficiently accessible for someone like my wife who uses a walking aid, though it isn't intended to be fully disabled accessible. If necessary use the entrance on the opposite side to where the parking space is located, as that has a ramp. We did find on our arrival that the kettle was not working - this I checked was not due to the plug fuse. However, this was not a major issue, as we could use the microwave for hot drinks. There seems to be some confusion as to the required departure time. The information sent with the key collection details stated 9 am whereas information at the property stated 10 am

I really loved the accommodation, it was lovely. I was reimbursed for the inconvenience which was great. I was given less than 24 hours to leave the property as apparently I was not allowed to stay there as I was going to work from the property. I found this really strange as I was not doing any different than holiday makers. They leave in the morning for a day out and come back in the evening. I asked for a refund for the week as I was not allowed to stay for my second week I had already paid for.....nope, no refund. Not a good service and I will make sure people know about it.

Thank you for your feedback. It does state in the property description that bookings for anything other than holiday or leisure are not permitted. We had a good week with lovely weather as we used this as a base and was out most days. However there were disappointing things. We had a problem with a slightly unclean quilt cover and emailed Cornish Cottage holidays as the office was closed over the weekend, who didn’t even reply to our email, but we managed to speak to the cleaning team who gave us a clean cover. The cottage was not as clean as I would have liked, as the rugs were not vacuumed and a few cobwebs. VERY Disappointed that we were not informed the Spa was closed and also the on-site club house was closed on a Saturday night without prior warning apart from a board outside when we got there.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with some elements of the property. Had you let the cleaning team know that you were unhappy with the clean, they have offered to come out and do a re-clean. Unfortunately, we have little control over the facility open times. The towering neighbouring trees help keep it cool on hot days. As reported elsewhere, the overnight hot water heating does not appear to work. We had to use the boost button to get hot water. Large cobwebs in the conservatory and a large nesting spider 2. Broken glass by skirting board next to dining room table 3. Four bottles of beer in freezer compartment which had burst caps off and therefore spilled beer which had frozen and rendered freezer unusable. As it was integral to fridge couldn't defrost it as would then have had unusable fridge. 4. Very dirty and dusty shelf in one wardrobe which we had to clean before using The bungalow is on a corner of a main walkthrough so the conservatory lacks privacy and constant kids on skateboards/scooters etc....

The oven and cooker hood lights require new bulbs and the hot water system took a bit of getting used to but with family living locally hopefully you will see us again in the future. We have a confirmed booking for next Christmas ref 75G39-21-EN. The only problem was the Broadband advertised as available. The best download speed I could achieve was 0.7MB/Sec. at 0400hrs most of the rest of the time it was less than this with Sky (the provider) promising speeds of around 35 MB on a basic package (0783A) fitted My son who lives close by and works for BT in Truro had a look around and established that the estate was properly equipped and that on application, Openreach can install an upgraded connection free of charge which will rectify the speed problem. It is up to the owner of course but I am sure they would want their clients to access a proper broadband system rather than one that just about enables one to read a newspaper on the internet ! Home to the National Maritime Museum, visitors will enjoy an amble through the narrow streets or a boat trip across the River Fal or up the Truro River.

Maenporth beach is the perfect spot to spend a day on the sands, but close enough to pop to for a couple of hours of just an invigorating swim.
