  • "Thank you for the wine and biscuits left."

We have stayed in many rented houses home and abroad and although this one was very spacious and ideal for a large family, we felt there are a few areas that need attention and the description is lacking one vital piece of information. There is a steep drive up to the parking area, where we were asked to park close to the house, as there is an apartment above the double garage and store room in the back garden, over looking the house. This was accessed through the week whilst we were staying. We had a transporter and saloon car parked, if my daughter would have brought hers we would have blocked the access area. My mother is of a nervous disposition and it was upsetting her with someone coming and going and even cleaning their van there. This should be stated in the description. The house itself was lovely and well equipped but the downstairs views are obscured by the Scarlet Hotel, which is a shame. We did not use the downstairs bedrooms or bathroom as due to illness some of the family could not make it, however, none of the doors close properly, the handles are all loose and catches not working. The bathroom needs revamping, broken tiles. The bathroom near the kitchen needs a revamp and door is broken, looks like it's been forced open, it does not stay shut unless locked. The ensuite bathroom upstairs is lovely, the window above the double sink has beautiful views and is in direct line of the neighbours sitting room! This needs some privacy glass or film, to at least the bottom of it. Decking is lovely with views over the coast and plenty of seating, shame all the cushions were locked away though. The upstairs beds were comfy, spacious and warm. It was just a shame, I have never come across this before, none of the bedding in all 6 bedrooms was ironed, it was as if they'd been dried screwed up then put on the beds, not a good look! The same with the saggy cushions on the couches. To me and my family it does not make a good first impression. With just a little more care and time this home would be worth the money being charged. Don't get me wrong, those of us who made it, had a lovely time. If it was everyone, it would have been different, due to issues with parking, bathrooms and downstairs sleeping areas. Vacuum needed under the beds. Also the large shattered pane of glass in living room that is awaiting replacement. (We were told about the glass 2d before arrival) We don't normally moan about things, but it was a gathering after losing my dad unexpectedly, earlier in the year, and we wanted it to be special. It's the little things that count. I feel this is an honest review.

  • "This was are second visit to the house in 3 years."

It’s a beautiful house excellent facilities great location and has had some lovely improvements since are last visit. We would certainly stay at this house again when we visit Cornwall again. One small issue I would like to raise to the owner but feel is really important on safety grounds is there are two bathrooms that don’t have safety lock handles on one upstairs and one downstairs which allows you to open the bathroom door from the outside if someone gets locked inside the two concerned have small bolts on. My nearly 3 year old granddaughter locked the door and could not open it again my son in law had to force the door when she began to panic which caused damage to the door which we immediately reported to the duty manager. She was fine and we continued to have a wonderful holiday and stay at the house. Thank you.

Living room very spacious for 9 of us. We were so lucky with the weather this week. Buses are v good and only £2 fares….walk in either direction and bus back. Recommend the local pub, Merrymoor Inn. Tasty fish and good service. Bit disappointed with Cornish Arms. Edie’s near St Austell is fantastic, have been several times always top notch.

The house has an amazing large living space which we used as a yoga studio for a retreat weekend. Loved watching the weather change across the ocean and exploring the coast path. A large kitchen space with everything you could need for cooking big meals at home or a short stroll to the pub if you want a night off cooking. Thank you Jaynie & Trelawns

  • "What a wonderful place to stay!"

The location was amazing, so close to the beach. The house was beyond our expectations - high spec, clean and roomy. The main lounge area was brilliant - so many places to sit and enjoy the views. Bedrooms were all super, especially the master bedroom upstairs with the bath and the views from the sinks while brushing your teeth! The outdoor shower was really useful for the wetsuits and surfboards. Only suggestions to improve would be: more toilet rolls! A mirror in the bathroom of the master bedroom for shaving (i did cut my lip!). The fan in the second double room upstairs was very noisy, we turned it off. The toilet seat in the toilet by the front door needs tightening. The duvets in the twin room should be winter duvets at this time of year, my daughter was on her own so used both the duvets so it was fine! A smaller non stick frying pan and some baking trays to warm our croissants!

  • "The reason I would not stay at the property again is the lack parking if there was 10 people staying at the property and the property behind was rented as well there would be no where to park several cars."

Hello Gillian, Just to reassure you that if people stay in the property behind the garage is opened so they can park in there without taking up space on the drive. The website quotes space for 3-4 cars. That would be 3 big vehicles or 4 small ones. Property Owner

  • "Had a pleasant stay at Trelawns, and Mawgan Porth was a lovely place to stay."

The area and the bay is beautiful. Met the owners of the house and they were very nice, and Janey the property manager equally so. The welcome pack was filled with lots of info on the area etc, and the biscuits and wine were a lovely touch to welcome us to Trelawns. The house itself was well equipped and roomy to chill out in. Kitchen was lovely and plenty of room at the table. Beds were comfy and bathrooms are a good size. There were 7 adults in our party and plenty of space for all of us. The only downsides, and I think these should be added to, or stipulated more in the description is that the view across the bay is obstructed by the flat roof of The Scarlet hotel. There is also a deepish step from the living area down to the wonderfully spacious bay window. I could have sat there all day. The owners said they were having work done on the house a few days after we left so best to check future descriptions and pictures as my downsides 'may' not be so much of an issue in the future. The garden was lovely to sit out in, large table and chairs. One thing I do have to say, the sunsets are just the best and if you're a sunset lover, you will not be disappointed. As for the area, thoroughly recommend Bodmin Jail, Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, Newquay Zoo, Aviation Centre near the RAF base and the Japanese Gardens. Looe is also a lovely place to visit. Overall, a good stay at Trelawns and would recommend it.

Thank you for your feedback. We do feel that the pictures accurately show the sea views from the property. We are glad you enjoyed your time there. - Cornish Cottage Holidays. Property Owner

Bathrooms had not been cleaned which was very unpleasant. I had to bottom the family bathroom myself so that my family would feel comfortable to use it. Staircase not hoovered. Years of muck in radiators and on all skirting boards. Dirt on walls, in the corners of the kitchen floor, filthy engrained pepper & salt mill, shattered glass in cupboard. We had to clean out the fridge and dishwasher. Disappointed, angry and upset as this was a treat for my family and their first visit to Cornwall. Problem was not resolved properly. Sykes are the WORSE holiday letting company I have dealt with and I will NEVER book with them again. The complaints procedure is a total farce.

This house is absolutely stunning (even in the grey and rain of winter). The kitchen is stunning, has everything you need and more plus sat 9 of us and a high chair around the table for Xmas lunch with ample space. The living room area is huge, again us all having ample space to sit, chill, or play games. The views are fabulous - the bedrooms were all well suited for our needs and having the snug upstairs meant PlayStation could still be played by my son (haha). Janey is a super star! She manages the property so well and is extremely helpful. The property was spotless when we arrived. I have absolutely no complaints to make at all.. If you want to stay in a beautiful large house, near to the sea, with a pub down the road (very steep hill) with everything you need for a large group then Trewlans is the place for you 100%. Thank you to Janey again and thank you to the owner for allowing us to have the opportunity to book and stay in your stunning property over the Xmas period. I would definitely book again. Tidy and empty dishwasher yes, but cleaner between tenants essential, surely? First aid kit only found under kitchen sink on day of departure. It should be labelled and mentioned on A4 list of house instructions. Inadequate recycling bins. Families on holiday make more landfill and recycling than normal. No indication on arrival or anywhere on property that the drive was shared which required parking away from neighbour's garage.. Existence of BBQ was good (albeit small for a house of ten people) not mentioned on original property details and we had to telephone to check.

Having looked at this property about a year before we actually went I was extremely happy with the help and advice offered by your Sykes customer service team . We were able to secure the property with a small deposit initially , refundable if we changed our plans ( definite bonus ) , with the final payment nearer the time . Communication was effective and prompt. I was able to contact the property manager a few days before our holiday about requesting a cot and high chair along with key collection and arrival times . On arrival the property was clean and welcoming and exactly as advertised. Well appointed with plenty of space for everyone. Views from the property are lovely, the beach is indeed a 5 minute walk away ! Opportunities to surf , or learn to , if you’re interested. The coastal walks are stunning, a definite must . We also found some lovely places to eat out locally , when we didn’t feel like cooking. Would very happily recommend this property and Mawgan Porth, and hope to return in the future.
