  • "On arrival the house looks very appealing."

Perched very high affording fantastic views over the bay. It has a lovely large kitchen, suited to the high number of guests that this property can hold. It was a bonus to find it had identical twin ovens to our own. All modern and a variety of kitchenware. No complaints. The whole of the downstairs has wooden flooring which is a godsend when you have a couple of dogs, nice touch having a dog bed in the lounge. What did frighten us was the three full length 100% glass doors. We strategically positioned chairs to prevent our 2 year and 13 month grandchildren going anywhere near ( they look so thin), the cube shaped door handles with sharp pointed edges added to the hazard. We had three generations of our family staying, outside there is a lovely sheltered balcony with a large seating area, fantastic. A word of warning, don’t pick the twin room with en-suite as we did. The beds are atrocious, sleeping on a mattress with a deep ravine when you have back problems is no fun. Waking up in the middle of the night and hating the fact you have several more hours to endure before getting up! The bed slats creak very loudly on every minor movement, a complete joke. You also have to have the quickest shower possible as the drain can’t handle the amount of water, you’re standing almost ankle deep with the water level close to the doors. The toilet also clears its flush very slowly. Despite the bed the rest of the property was very good and the main bathroom was very nice. The lounge had loads of comfortable sofas and the TV had so many options. On a safety note, stair gates were asked for, one was totally useless, impossible to lock and we had to use the awkward swing preventer to jam it. A couple of times our granddaughter was found climbing the stairs. We had asked for a cot, no mattress provided, it did say “no bedding” which we assumed, no duvet or sheets. Please supply dimensions if you’re not providing a mattress, there are so many different sizes. Directions finding the place in hindsight was good, but as first arrivals we found it difficult. Why not use “What 3 Words” app? On all listings. Lots of pluses and an enjoyable week for all. Shame about the bed which somewhat spoilt the experience for me but my children and their partners and grandchildren loved it. We would very much like to visit again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we're pleased you had an enjoyable stay at Windrush. We have raised your issues with the owners of the property and they have advised that the glass doors are standard industry doors, solidly built for purpose. With regard to the twin beds, the owners will look at these as well as the slow draining shower and toilet when they attend the property. The stair gate should not be faulty, but this will also be checked. - Cornish Cottage Holidays Property Owner

We had 2 very young children with us, there was a paddling pool for them to play in, dvds for them to watch, one thing would have been nice, a beer fridge, the fridge freezer is just a bit small, but having said that we rebooked before we even left for next year. We liked that the bus stop is at the top of the lane to take you to Newquay and Padstow.

  • "I did not like twenty four hours and numerous phone calls to get internet sorted which was advertised."

Not happy at having g a building site directly opposite with intermittent work going on during my stay. Property looked scruffy with weeks of long uncut grass. Directions to property poor.

Thank you for your feedback which we have discussed with the owner of Windrush in great detail. Having flagged the internet issue to us upon your arrival at the property, the housekeeper attended immediately to discover that unfortunately the router had failed. The router was removed and was then returned to Windrush the following day in full working order. We are extremely sorry for the interruption; however this was completely out of the owner's control and was rectified within 24 hours of the initial report. The building work mentioned is not directly opposite Windrush. A new house was built over 12 months ago and is having the final touches executed, this is approx 800 metres away, down in the valley. Privacy is not compromised in any way nor can any noise be heard. A gardener attends every 2 weeks to cut the grass, due to the amount of rain we have had recently followed by glorious sunshine the grass had grown very quickly! The gardener attended on the Monday morning to carry out an additional cut, we hope you were then able to enjoy the outside space. We have also double checked the directions with the property owner and these are accurate. Property Owner

  • "Lovely location."

You could have advised us that there was a building site next door with an 8am wakeup every weekday!! A good holiday company would do this. You are either not paying your housekeeper or they are not doing the work. House was damp and full of cobwebs. Both shower trays overflowed on first day due to blocked drains. There was a plunger which produced what must have been 6 months worth of hair/soap/**** which was disgusting. If the showers were cleaned on changeover this would have been noticed. (Photos were taken) Towels are small thin and one had a lovely (brown) stain! During the stormy night the Electrics box cover blew off outside and broke - it couldn't be fitted back on so exposing the meter and cables. Contacted Housekeeper to make her aware but had no reply so further feedback was not possible.

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome. We are sorry if, on this occasion, you were disturbed by any noise as we have not had any previous complaints. The building work is on a separate road below the front of Windrush. A local resident is building house for himself and his family. it’s been going on for over a year and is on a small scale as he is doing the work himself. There has been periodic distant banging when we have stayed at the property ourselves but nothing which was disturbing. The property is a modern double glazed building with full central heating. It was however a wet and stormy week (hence the meter cover blowing off!). However, there are no wires in this cupboard as just a meter cover. This will be repaired. Our housekeeper apologies that she missed a couple of cobwebs and confirms that the towel stain is sun tan lotion that the HK has mentioned unfortunately happened due to a guest take the towel down to beach. The towels are basic white towels which have been approved by a Quality Assurance Team. However, these will be checked along with the shower drainage on every change over. Property Owner

    Excellent views. Decking area superb, from dawn with a morning cuppa, until wine o’clock at dusk. We did have a few maintenance issues with regards to outside lights not working on upper deck. A few loose slates outside patio area from downstairs bedroom. Also felt that the property could have been a little cleaner. However, having said all that. We enjoyed our stay very much. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and plenty of crockery etc;

Thank you for your feedback. Our housekeeping team discussed this with you during your stay. The loose slates were a small piece of slate on a decorative step and this has been removed. One outside light wasn't working which lights the gardens rather than any paths or accesses to the house. It will need to be replaced by an electrician which may take a few weeks but is in hand. The layout was good for our 3 generations and all rooms a good size and beds very comfortable..The teens in our party loved the video and audio equipment and dvds in the very spacious lounge and the free Wi-Fi was appreciated by us all . The book shelf provided lots of interesting local information and also some novels .. The outside decking and table with eight comfortable chairs provided more than enough space and meant that because of the fabulous weather we ate every single meal outside.. Kitchen equipment easily provided all we needed .. and of course the dishwasher was much appreciated. The views from the house are fabulous and the walk down to the beach is the 10 minutes suggested unless the tide is fully in and even then not a problem as walk is of course still downhill .. We would confidently recommend a stay here ..a special house ….

It was clean and a home from home. The beds were comfy and the the views were better than the pictures. It was so peaceful except for the times the builders were around as there is a lot of building work going on, a heads up would have been good. For most of it we were out but if late going out and the doors/windows are open you can hear it. Also all the vans are parked on the main road so pulling out is a bit precarious. It didn’t ruin anything. The shower is amazing as is the bath. We enjoyed every minute, even the rain couldn’t spoil it. This cottage was chosen for my terminally illl mum and it was the best goodbye she could have had to Cornwall. It’s a cottage you keep returning to. It’s fantastic.

I ended up making them myself when the linen ariived. Also there were not enough towels either.. It took us some time to get in touch with the housekeeper as a chair was not stable either and my husband hurt his foot on it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The owners were happy to deliver two additional sets of linen as a gesture of goodwill to assist you on this particular occasion. There wasn’t a request for additional beds to be made up as all the beds normally provided had already been made up and it was agreed that the additional linen would be provided for you to use as you wished. We love this property and it’s location. The property serves our family needs however after the years we are starting to notice small general wear and tear throughout the property that we believe need attending (like loose plug fitting, blown bulbs in lamp, broken blind, etc) except from this as always we’ve had a fabulous stay in a wonderful property.

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback which we have discussed with the owners. As we all know, light bulbs can go at any time, there are however replacement bulbs in the property. The broken blind had been removed from the hall window and stored in a cupboard pending a replacement blind. As the window looks out onto the back garden and doesn't affect any of the bedrooms there is no issue regarding privacy or impact on sleeping. We are glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay at Windrush and we look forward to welcoming you back to Cornwall soon. Property Owner

  • "The location of Windrush is absolutely amazing!"

Sitting on the balcony you can enjoy superb views of Mawgan Porth bay and the cliffs, we were blessed with some gorgeous autumn sun too which was perfection. You can take a short walk down the (steep) hill to the beach or along the coast to the town where you will find a few small local shops for essentials and nick naks, a lovely pub called the Merrymoor Inn and a restaurant called the Catch - you need to book any restaurants. Cornish Fresh do delicious coffee and pasties. The beach is soft sand, the sea crystal clear with plenty of busy rock pools to explore. The strong tides left pools along the beach which were warm and safe for the children splash in - all making a really idyllic place to be. The huge disappointment with the property was the standard of cleanliness. You cannot get access to the property until 5pm to allow for the deeper cleaning to be done between guests, which for us as a family 6 with young children was a bit tricky being stuck out until late the day. I understand the reasons and would be fine with it if the house was actually clean! We entered to find pubic hairs left on the toilet and shower, splodges of shampoo or similar on the tiles from the previous guests where it had obviously not been wiped, toe nail clippings and other bits on the bedroom floor where it had clearly not been hovered, dead flies and spiders collected on the window sills where they had not been dusted for some time. Not pleasant at any time but during this time of heightened awareness of hygiene it was very upsetting. Before you leave guests are required to totally clean the kitchen, empty the fridge, freezer and dishwasher, strip all linen off the beds and put all the towels in the bathroom... all before 9am! My 7 year old asked me "mummy, if we have to do all this why wasn't the house clean for us?" I didn't felt like there was someone to call if there was a question or problem. The number provided for the housekeeper was never answered and there is no option of leaving a message. My son's bed slats were broken (which didn't matter as we were not fully occupying the house and so there was a spare) that could have been a huge problem and there was no one for us to contact. I will definitely return to this area but would not use Sykes again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies for the fact that the cleaning was not up to our usual standard, we take this very seriously and have taken this matter up with our Housekeeping company. We have their assurance that steps are being taken immediately to ensure this will not happen in the future. We are also checking the bed slats to make sure that they are safely repaired. Notwithstanding, we do hope that you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

You could either drive to the beach and pay a very small daily parking charge or if you felt energetic you could easily walk down a slope to the beach (check for tide times). The cottage was very spacious with a well laid out fitted kitchen (with dishwasher) and ample workspace , good storage and sizeable fridge freezer. You are spoilt with a balcony with a beautiful view over the bay so you can enjoy the evening having a drink watching the world go by listening to the sea roll in or eat alfresco using the table and chairs provided. There was a good sized bathroom with a separate shower, a single shower room and three toilets so great for large families visiting. There is a large wall mounted TV with DVD ,and freeview and a decent Wifi connection. Phone signals we found were a bit hit and miss but when your on holiday the phone is the least of your worries. Mawgan Porth itself had basic shopping facilities so you do have the option of going though to Newquay about 5 miles where most major supermarkets are dotted about or have your groceries delivered. Newquay Aldi has the best view from a supermarket car park worth a visit just for that. All in all an excellent stay and would recommend Windrush as a holiday base, we will be back!

There are a few points that could be improved upon which would make the experience of staying at Windrush perfect. The welcome pack including Tea, Coffee, milk and Chocolate cake etc. was unexpected but very nice. It would have been better if there had been more than two toilet rolls. Particularly as there are three toilets. The house accommodates eight people so it would be nice if there was enough outdoor seating for all eight to sit around the table on the balcony. The Parasol was completely beyond use as it was ripped and needs replacing. Although the house is dog friendly, the garden is not secure and caused us a few issues. Luckily we had a stair gate of our own which came in very useful. The kitchen tap urgently needs securing. We do not want these comments to be negative, as we all had such a great time, but to be taken as constructive criticism.
