  • "The property overlooks a secluded wooded area, with breathtaking views of the sunset from within the hot tub."

I didn’t know much about wood fired hot tubs prior to this trip, however I now know they aren’t like the more common variety. I rather enjoyed the process of building up the fire and maintaining it, in order to get the water to the right temperature. I could imagine that others might not embrace this process as much, but I always found the end result, of red hot relaxing waters, to be worth the effort. When eating in, we made use of the gas BBQ, which Steve kindly set up for us, then dined al fresco on the decking. Our two young boys loved the set up. I managed several 10km runs from the location, through the picturesque Cornwall countryside. Which considering the consumption of rich food and local Cornish beer, provided some much needed balance. I supposed my only (very small) grumble would be the 9am checkout time, which just felt slightly early. We prepped the night before and packed etc, however two young boys don’t always follow the guidance given to them, so it was still a mad rush in the morning. Since returning home, the boys haven’t stopped talking about our holiday away in Cornwall and it will most definitely go down as our favourite family UK trip.

We arrived quite late due to a bad journey up from Kent and was very pleasantly suprised when we walked into Oakwood. Spotlessly clean, very well maintained and very spacious. Opened the curtains the following day for an amazing view of the woodland with various wildlife running aound the grass. The log burner and wood fired hot tub were a fantastic addition! Sophie and Steve were both extremely helpful and friendly and both went out their way to help me when my drone crashlanded itself into a tree! Oakwood is in great location with lots of beautiful beaches and towns not to far away! We will definitely be returning hopefully very soon!

Perfectly decked out for everyone especially family’s, and plenty of information to guide our stay! We will definitely come back here! The location is great to completely chill and enjoy nature with the woodland below. The cottage was exceedingly clean and very well supplied - a true home from home. The hot tub was a real luxury, and against our initial doubts, heated up very quickly and to a very hot temperature. The gift basket was very much appreciated, especially after a long journey and arriving too late to pick up supplies. We'd definitely recommend staying here for a great holiday. Thank you

Wildlife and birds weee great including the barn o l every evening. Hot hob was such fun. The only downfall was the mobile reception ( non existent) so had to rely on Wi-Fi to plan our days out but that was atrocious, so had to go out for lunch everyday to find Wi-Fi and organise our trips- cost me a fortune! Seriously our stay was great and have already booked to come back in September- hopefully the Wi-Fi will be working.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re really happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back. There were 4 adults, 2 children (13 & 10) and two large dogs staying at Oakwood and there was plenty of space for us all. It was clean, private and comfortable. We had lots of day trips exploring the local area and did many walks along the coastal path. It was lovely to come back to the hot tub in the evening and just stare out over the trees listening to the owls and surrounding wildlife. Although we went in summer I can imagine it to be very cosy in winter with the log fire and beautiful in autumn seeing the all the trees turn colour. It was the perfect place for our family holiday. • "What a fabulous place this is, booked pre pandemic and then postponed to June this year, we couldn't really have picked a better week the weather was fantastic!"

! The lodge was really well equipped and the views across the woodland were stunning. I did also manage to see the deer one morning in the meadow. The cream tea, Gin and Vodka were a really nice touch on arrival and I really enjoyed them, thank you Sophie :) Our two dogs loved it so much they kept trying to escape into the woods for their own exploration, the only downside we had with the dogs was that our youngest one kept trying to run off across the road at the back of the lodge, if I would suggest anything it would be a fenced area to let them out to prevent them from escaping whilst we enjoyed the added bonus of the wood fired hot tub. We visited Eden, Tintagel, Perranporth, Par Sands, Fowey, Lostwithiel and Caerhays in our week, our favourite place was the beach at Caerhays. The Beds were comfortable and after all our walking each day we slept well. The only thing I would say is that the hot tub cleaning process that seemed to kick in between 2 and 4am every morning did wake me up with the bedroom window open, however, it did not seem to affect my partner!! My daughter, boyfriend and baby tagged along and there was plenty of room for the travel cot in the master bedroom, the washing machine was a really useful addition with a baby. Overall Oakwood was a home from home with everything you could possibly need for a fabulous week away and we would definitely stay again. The hot tub area was not fenced off against the steep bank which i could see may be a problem if you had had a few of the gins but I'm sure this was work in progress as the area was so new.

  • "The accommodation was very good although to be excellent you would need to have provided a tumble dryer inside the property."

(We were very unfortunate with the weather & using the washing machine was impossible since we wouldn't have been able to dry things afterwards.) The sofas were not at all comfortable, which was the other reason I did not score the accommodation higher. Both the sofas & some furniture & fittings are beginning to look tired. In contrast the bed & pillows were very comfortable & combined with the quiet location, we slept well! The accommodation was well-equipped & clean & in a pleasant, rural location overlooking a small forest & fields. There is a pleasing sitting-out balcony, although we did not get a single opportunity to use it because of the poor weather, which was disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. A tumble drier is not included at Oakwood (and is not listed on the property description). However a clothes airer is included and available for guests to use as required. There hasn't been any other feedback received regarding the sofa and of course comfort is an individual thing. The Owners update and review furniture and fittings on an annual basis. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the property and location otherwise. Property Owner

Access was down a single track tarmac road normally used by farm vehicles though not enough to disturb too much. The cottage was very clean and well maintained with some lovely complimentary items included. Our young dog really enjoyed running around the field outside as well as investigating the woods close by. The view over the valley was lovely and the autumn colours of the leaves was a sight to behold. The location is also ideal for popping out on beach days with a number of beaches and towns within easy travel. We are very likely to book the cottage again.

..just what me, my daughter & our dog needed. Only the sounds of the wildlife, birdsong with the occasional tractor and train well in the distance at St Blazey! The night sky, when clear, was fascinating & so beautiful. Oakwood had everything provided, & I mean everything! The kitchen was better equipped than at home! It was clean, spacious & very comfortable. The outside decking area was wonderful. The welcome tray was a lovely thought, as were the fresh flowers. I cannot honestly think of any negative aspect to our stay. I am disabled with limited mobility, using 2 crutches to walk. I could access the property using the front steps and those at the side in the decking (I wasn't fast but I could hold onto the door frame and decking to get myself in and up). We would recommend Oakwood to anyone, family & friends. We hope to return early next year. A big thank you for making our holiday so perfect.

There is space for a free standing fridge freezer. Also we had a leaking kettle which took a while to replace and the toaster had only 2 slots working. Beds ok but a little soft I personally would have liked a bedside table. Coat hooks would be useful inside front door. Location was just perfect for us - quiet, nice woodland view with occasional wildlife, and good location for east Cornwall and west Devon sites-to-see. The long narrow lane entry is a major part of Cornish holidays for me and adds to the 'out of the way' atmosphere. All utensils in the kitchen, and the bedlinen and towels were of high quality (quite a rarity these days, sadly). The welcome pack including a full cream tea and enough teas, coffee and other bits to get us going, were a real special touch. If I had to be picky I would say the fridge is a bit limited for a place far enough away from shops that daily shopping is not practical if you have a group with an appetite. Its a minor point for those for eat out more, and it certainly won't stop me coming back when I have another reason for enduring the M4/M5.
