  • "We loved the house overall and the location was great."

It was described accurately and car parking was easy thanks to the friendly car park owner (you can just get a larger car outside the house to unload). The kitchen has everything you need and the dining/living space is enough for 5/6 people. We were a little disappointed that the house was so cold on arrival - it took two days to get it warmed up sufficiently once we figured out the storage heaters. Some minor things that need addressing by the owners are- we could not find an electric fire, the dvd player plays everything in black and white only as the remote doesn’t work, the drawer fronts come off in the end bedtroom, and the cleaners need to clean even in hard to reach places (like under beds and behind curtains etc).

  • "A very pretty and inviting cottage."

There are lots of positives but some small negatives which would elevate this property to be even better. We paid a really good price so what we got was fabulous for the money. We appreciated the upgraded beds, however the bedroom drawers and wardrobes had seen better days and need either fixing or replacing to work better. The place smelt damp (due to location in the side of a rock) and would benefit from the use of a dehumidifier. We got used to it though. The quilts are quite thin and we were a bit cold so had to used the ones in the twin room to help with that. Appreciated lots of lovely white fluffy towels! The bathroom toilet handle had a mind of its own and faces all kinds of directions, there was some damp mold on the window blinds and a broken bit on the shower screen at the top. The shower was lovely and we were glad of the instructions on how to get hot water etc. Downstairs was comfy and well equipped. Cushions were feather and that made lounging very nice. We didn’t watch tv as we chatted all night on opposite sofas. It was chilly but the fan heater gave out a lot of heat. We both said that if the bedroom furniture was replaced or fixed it would help the overall quality of the cottage. Lots of pictures and features were added with love from the owners so it’s a shame to let the bedroom furniture spoil it a bit. The cottage is in an amazing location and the parking was fabulous. We didn’t attempt to take luggage to the door with the car and wouldn’t recommend people do that. Cobbles not for people with walking difficulties but usual for the location. The curry from Mevagissey Spice was amazing and breakfast at The Lighthouse Cafe yummy. Overall we had a lovely and comfortable stay at 4 Elm Terrace and would go back. It’s an old cottage with charm so expect that and you won’t be disappointed. If you want perfect then maybe choose a purpose built apartment.

  • "We had a great stay at 4 Elm Terrace, we found it to be comfortable and homely and the location was ideal, close to the shops, restaurants and harbour but not noisy."

It is a great location for walking the South West Coastal path and taking in the amazing views. We were lucky enough to spot a seal swimming in the harbour entrance. The parking permit is a very useful addition which was very much appreciated and the car park is very close to the cottage so easy enough to walk to with your luggage. Many thanks.

  • "We had a fantastic stay."

I was worried after reading a couple of reviews, but the beds were comfortable, the cottage was very clean, no smell of dog at all, it’s really nicely decorated. Access is very tight as mentioned so you need to be good at reversing or park in the car park and carry to the cottage, it’s 2 min walk. Was always able to get a parking spot, bonus is they have electric chargers. There is an additional cost to this but was great for us. Mevagissey is lovely and well placed for lots of gorgeous beaches, Eden project and gardens of Heligan on your doorstep. 2 min walk to the harbour with a selection of lovely bakeries. Plenty of storage in the cottage and we didn’t want for anything. The tv isn’t a smart TV so if travelling with young children like we were then take a firestick to plug in to it. We also took a blackout blind for the kids room as curtains weren’t blackout in the twin room. Also there is a large window on the landing without a curtain and people do walk by it…..it’s right by the bathroom…..! Because of where it’s situated you do get some noise but usually quiet by 11pm. Also the bin lorries come at 5.30am and I had a fright one morning, maybe bring earplugs and sleep with the windows closed. We would definitely book here again we’ve had the most amazing week, thank you 4 Elm Terrace.

  • "We had a lovely week, cottage was as described and in a good location with easy access to the harbour and restaurants."

Access to the property by car is tricky and up a steep narrow driveway, but parking permit for car park close by was very convenient. The cottage was clean and well equipped and nicely decorated.

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed our cottage and Mevagissey. Best wishes, Edward and Mara Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage but needs a small amount of money spent on it to bring it up a couple of notches to make it wonderful."

Convenient for harbour and shops. No patio, public walkway in front of house with comfortable bench. Vehicle access is a nightmare, there is no where to turn around and backing out onto the main road is a no go. Need to be advised of this before booking. Parking in the local car park was easy. Well equipped kitchen. Fridge was off and not clean. Later in day discovered a lolly in the freezer section which was stuck to it. Crumbs on dining and coffee table. Comfortable sofas. TV too small and needs to be a smart TV. Cold in evenings, couldn't close curtains otherwise would loose heat from storage heaters. No electric fire but efficient fan heater (a bit noisy). Stairs not suitable for infirm person. A "duck" sign on the stairs overhang (coming down) to warn people of low timber would be good. Could do with a curtain on landing window for privacy. Toilet handle needs fixing, hangs loose. Floor behind bin in bathroom dirty. Great shower but needs a larger bath mat to soak up water. Bed bases not joined together. Hatching of moths! (could be time of year). Overall a very nice little cottage, but with a little bit of money spent on it and more attention to detail by the cleaners, and it would be fantastic.

Thank you for your feedback. We have undertaken a complete refresh of the cottage since your stay and we hope that our guests will enjoy every aspect. Best Mara and Edward Property Owner

  • "Perfect location, close to the shops pubs and restaurants."

Spotlessly clean. Big windows letting in lots of light and views over the harbour. It was priced at the high end and at that price there is an expectation which I feel wasn't quite met. Positives:- really good quality reasonably equipped kitchen; huge lounge / dining area; three good size bedrooms (all on floor 1) and a quality fitted bathroom. Good power shower. Location. And even though it's in the centre of a busy fishing town/village it was quiet at night. But there are negatives:- the lounge tv is old and outdated and not a smart tv. Most people stream tv now and Netflix is the norm. There was an ancient dvd player but no DVDs. The cottage description says - a great spot to curl up with your loved ones in front of the fire (there isn't one) to watch a film (there is no way to watch film unless one that suits the whole family is on terrestrial tv). The lounge lighting needs to be reviewed as only 1 tiny lamp downstairs and it was too dark. We had to fetch a lamp down from a bedroom. Curtains downstairs are old, and threadbare. A proper Welcome pack is needed, I've never stayed in a cottage or airbnb that doesn't greet you with tea, coffee, sugar and a pint of milk in the fridge these days. We had a 7 hour drive to get there; a cuppa on arrival would have been nice. After searching the kitchen we found a handful of out of date coffee sachets and some old artificial sweeteners. Towels - 1 bath towel, 1 medium towel and 2 hand towels between us, for a week? Could we have had at least a bath towel each? It felt like the cottage was supplied with the minimum of necessities. The bedrooms were pretty uncomfortable. They look nice but are quite bare. The windows rattle. Beds were not great, with no Headboards. There are strong doggy smells on the bedroom carpets - they need cleaning or replacing. Bedrooms generally were a disappointment as just not very comfortable - we didn't sleep well and moved around trying all the beds! Internet instructions are incorrect in the welcome book, in fact the welcome book was lacking in a lot of ways. We had to work out the internet ourselves. Took us a while to get the oven on some instructions might help. On the whole this is a lovely well positioned holiday cottage but we would not stay again - it lacks finish and isn't very comfortable. I've only written this detailed review because it was priced at the high end costing us nearly £300 night. I use Airbnb a lot these days and the holiday home market has changed. Airbnb properties are offering more of everything including more luxury and comfort especially at this price range. Tea, coffee, and milk on arrival, even wine jam biscuits chocolate and local produce. A Smart tv is absolutely the norm and a basic item now. On the whole the cottage was a let down. Sadly we left two days early as the beds were so uncomfortable and the doggy smells upstairs started to be overwhelming. This property could be fabulous with a bit of investment and TLC. It's the difference that makes people revisit and recommend places to others. On the plus side Mevagissey is lovely, the fresh fish from the harbour a delight. The locals really friendly and a great choice on offer for dining out.

Thank you for your feedback. We have completely refreshed the cottage since your stay, including replacing all beds with new, deep cleaning the carpets and furniture, etc. We hope all our guests will enjoy this beautiful cottage. Best Mara and Edward Property Owner

Just a couple of small points .... Double bed was too short for 6'1" son making sleep a bit uncomfortable and difficult plus The sash windows in that bedroom don't stay open so had to prop them with trainers to get air into the room which was needed as it was warm.

  • "Unfortunately we found a number of unsatisfactory issues."

Whilst I knew that pets were welcome the smell from the rugs was very unpleasant and overpowering so much so we rolled them up and put them under the stairs during our stay. We left a pan lid (already cracked) and a wooden spatula (already split) on a shelf as we felt they were unsuitable for use. A number of pots and pans required cleaning before use and the cupboard they were stored in was filthy. Microwave plate had not been cleaned. Grill pan was greasy and wet. Toaster had not been cleaned. We did enjoy our stay but the standard of cleanliness was very disappointing. I left a hand written copy of the above in the property.

Thank you for your feedback and we apologize that you did not find the level of cleanliness at the cottage acceptable. We take this feedback very seriously and have spoken with our cleaners who are required to address all the issues you mention during each changeover. We understand the importance of quality control and the cleaning regime has been reviewed accordingly. Also, we have replaced the rugs with new (washable) ones and have also provided a new microwave since your stay. This is a cottage that allows pets and we will endeavor to make sure the cleaning is done to a high standard every time. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner
