  • "Lovely large and bright house in a perfect spot on the edge of Mevagissy, but close to shops and pubs."

A warning to anyone with mobility problems, there are lots of steep steps, but it is worth it. Very quiet.

  • "Wisteria is a beautifully appointed cottage with everything you could need for a relaxing stay, the only thing that let it down was the outdoor maintenance it was a bit tricky getting up and down the steps because of the bushes that were a bit overgrown but that apart we had a wonderful stay."

  • "Lovely spacious house."

The welcome gifts were appreciated. Comfortable accommodation. Well equipped kitchen and excellent main bathroom. The steps up to Wisteria kept us fit! Short walk to picturesque Megavissey. We walked to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and had a lovely day at the Eden Project as well as visits to local beaches and some SW coastal path walks.

  • "We had a lovely time at Wisteria!"

The property is really spacious and it was great to have a second living room for the kids. Beds were comfy and showers were great too. Short walk into Mevagissey, which is a really lovely village. I enjoyed reading the books about Meva and its people that were in the lounge. We loved the crabbing in the harbour and popping into all the quaint, independent shops. It's the perfect base if you plan to visit Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Carlyon Beach, etc. We did the walk to Lost Gardens from the house with the kids on their scooters and it was a great day! We didn't have the best weather over the week but there's always plenty to do in Cornwall. I'd recommend Wisteria and would return if we want to visit the area again. The only thing I'd flag is that the parking was a bit difficult for us sometimes with two large cars. The well in the kitchen is also really cool but sadly we couldn't get the remote to work to turn the lights on down there.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday."

Wisteria is perfect to come back to after days walking on the coastal path, swimming in the sea, and wandering down to the harbour to look at the boats. The house is spacious, so it’s good for those Cornish not-very-summery days as well. There is lots to do in the area, and we will definitely be back.

Thank you for your comments and so glad you enjoyed your time in Mevagissey. You are welcome back any time and we would, of course, apply returning guest discount. I hope your trip to SA went well and everyone got home safely. Jenny Property Owner

Steps up to Wisteria can be a challenge especially after a long walk. Would not hesitate in staying here again. Thank you to James and Jenny for update on info regarding travel directions and key code. If yoou would like a holiday home that feels like a home from home then Wisteria is a must.

Thank you for this feedback and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay in Wisteria. Sadly, the steps up to the house will always be there and I hope the view made the challenge worth it. We have recently widened the middle section steps and serviced the sensor lights so hope that helped. We would love to have you back any time. Jenny Property Owner

  • "Wisteria is a lovely cottage in an excellent setting with an easy walk into Mevagissey."

Good private parking. The cottage has all the equipment you would need and more, and the new kitchen/diner and games room are an excellent feature for any family stays. Generally, our holiday was very enjoyable as we were able to walk directly from the cottage along the coast path, up to the Lost Gardens and went on the local passenger ferry to Fowey. We had a few issues that spoilt our opinion of the cottage. The first was the overwhelming smell of gloss paint throughout our stay. We opened lots of windows, some for the whole of our stay, to try and get rid of the smell but it lingered. The owner replied to our text querying the smell by saying that they hadn't noticed any smell when they recently did some DIY. However, the new kitchen/dining room paintwork really smelt strongly and this hadn't improved by the end of the week. The new oven did not appear to have been used before and the one time we used it, the horrible smell of new metal being burnt was very unpleasant. These things should have been sorted out before the first booking following maintenance work. The other point to note is that the kingsize bed is, in our opinion, incredibly uncomfortable. It has an Ikea Morgedal mattress which is a big block of hard foam with no 'give' in it whatsoever and not very good support because it is so rigid. It spoils the holiday a bit if the bed is so uncomfortable that you don't have a great night's sleep.

Thank you for this feedback and apologies that this response has been delayed. I am sorry that issues from our refurbishment impacted on your stay. This was not our intention when getting the work finished in time for the new season. I am so sorry that you felt that your concerns were dismissed as they certainly were not. Thank you also for feedback about the mattress. We will monitor other guest reactions as we really want people to have a comfortable night's sleep whilst staying in the house. Thank you once again as all feedback is welcome and acted on where we can. Jenny Property Owner

  • "Wisteria is beautiful and well equipped and decorated and furnished to high standards."

A broken toilet seat was replaced within six hours of being reported and everything was done to ensure a comfortable stay. The complimentary bottle of “fizz” which awaited us was a nice touch and we didn’t need the towels and bedding we took with us, as those provided were of excellent quality. It’s difficult not to mention the steps which need to be negotiated, to access the house, so if you have any mobility issues Wisteria would prove “challenging” at least! Having said that, even with a recent knee replacement and another coming up, I managed without too much trouble. The outdoor seating on the terraced front garden also provided a lovely sunny spot to enjoy the views over Mevagissey so overall, it’s full marks from this happy holiday-maker!

  • "A lovely holiday home."

Well furnished & very clean . We received a lovely welcome gift . The kitchen was well equipped & the bedrooms spacious & comfy . The bath tub was an added luxury after a long cliff walk to Gorran Haven & back . A short walk into the shops & restaurants, although I would recommend booking for the Saturday night . And we can highly recommend the local Portuguese restaurant Alvarado & the Hewas inn a short drive away . We'd definitely book Wisteria again if visiting the area.

  • "Super stay, the welcome pack was a lovely surprise."

Amazing weather, comfortable bed, best sleep ever! (what type of memory foam mattress is in the loft room, I must get one). We didn't need our camping chairs/wind breaker as you thought of everything. 10 out of 10 we couldn't have chosen such a lovely accommodation/location for our first time in Cornwall. My father-in-law would love to maintain the property for you & cut back the hedge which is a little overgrown in some places. Will definitely be back again next year. xx

Thank you for your feedback. Great to hear that you had a good stay and restful sleep. Also made us smile about the windbreak and camp chairs - essential British beach equipment along with a flask, and so glad that it all helped. Thanks for letting us know about the hedges, we will get these tamed. You would be very welcome back next year and obviously with return booking discount Property Owner

Nice welcome pack and plenty of information on local places to visit. Property only a short walk to harbour and close to big attractions like the Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project. Great views over the town and surrounding countryside. Would have been nice to have a dishwasher. Perhaps bigger bath towels as the ones provided are a bit small.

It’s far more spacious in reality than in the photos and has benefited from redecoration throughout. We had everything we needed. Beds were extremely comfortable; linen was crisp and fresh and it was brilliantly positioned for the town, just a short walk away so easy to come back and forth. We had a few teething problems with the heating on arrival with the timings, but the hosts were incredibly responsive and sent maintenance straight out to help us get it sorted. We’ll definitely be booking again.

Thank you for these comments and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Wisteria. Apologies once again for the heating not working at first and just glad we got it sorted for you. We would love to have you back any time. Many thanks, Jenny and James Stevenson Property Owner

  • "This was exactly as described, so no complaints at all."

The property was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. It was also lovely and warm. A coffee pot would have been good. There were only two of us, so washing up wasn't a problem - with more, a dishwasher would have been more than useful. Larger towels would be nice - we are both used to bath sheets, so found them a bit small (and neither of us is large!) They also were a bit musty smelling as if they hadn't quite been aired fully. Overall, no complaints, just suggestions.

The house is perfectly located, with only a short walk in to the town, or to a very nice secluded beach, something we took advantage of for an early morning swim! • "The property is a lovely equipped cottage."

It is in a lovely location ideal for the village and beach access. The sitting room, dining room and shower room are in lovely condition. The kitchen and downstairs bedroom are lovely but could do with a little modernising. The family bedroom upstairs is gorgeous a really lovely room to stay in. The family bathroom looks lovely but I think there may be a plumbing issue. Unfortunately the bunk room lets the property down. There was a strong smell of damp and without the door and dorma window being fully open this room could not be used.

Thank you for your kind words about Wisteria and your useful comments. We aim to provide comfortable accommodation to help you relax on holiday and I am sorry something went wrong. Unfortunately, we did indeed have a leak last summer in the upstairs bathroom which is now all repaired. We have also acted on your suggestions and over winter we have bought a new range cooker and fridge freezer for the kitchen as well as done some decorating. Thank you again and please rest assured we will act if things are not right for you when you are our guests. Property Owner

The property

Located on the south-west coast of Cornwall on the edge of the working fishing village of Mevagissey, is this 1920’s house, Wisteria. Wisteria provides comfortable, spacious and well-appointed accommodation for a traditional British seaside holiday. The south facing lounge has comfortable sofas, TV with Chromecast and DVD player, views through the sash windows are out over the valley towards the harbour.

The dining room, also has sash windows to see the valley views and an electric coal-effect fire.

The extendable dining table easily seats six and there is a cupboard of toys and games for a bit of family fun !

The large kitchen is towards the back of the house with wooden units, electric range cooker, fridge freezer and a breakfast table.

A door leads to the utility area with the washing machine and tumble drier. The first of two bathrooms in the property is on the ground-floor with a shower, basin and WC, while the upstairs bathroom has a roll-top bath with basin and WC. The house has three bedrooms, the master bedroom and the bunk room on the first floor, and a double bedroom is on the ground floor. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an attractive day bed which makes it a perfect family room if needed or a place to relax for a couple. The bunk room has full size single bunkbeds, suitable for children of any age.

The room also has wardrobe and a velux window. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and a wardrobe with drawers. The garden has four separate levels, all south facing. The top level is a terrace with valley views, perfect for relaxing on the garden furniture with a coffee or a glass of wine.

There is also a small lawn and an additional pub picnic table perfect for outside dining. A five minute walk downhill will get you to Mevagissey Harbour, the centre of the village, full of pubs, restaurants and gift shops. Eat chips on the harbour whilst watching out for the pesky seagulls. A short drive or a 45 minutes walk will bring you to The Lost Gardens of Heligan: “Lost to the brambles of time since the outbreak of WW1, this Sleeping Beauty was re-awakened in 1990 to become Europe’s largest garden restoration project.

Today Heligan’s 200 acres are a paradise for the explorer, wildlife, plant lover and garden romantic.” Further afield, it’s only 20 minutes to the Eden Project or 45 minutes to the Newquay’s Fistral Beach. A walk along the South West Coast Path of around 2-miles north will bring you to the lovely Pentewan Beach for a day by the sea in sunny weather. Wisteria’s secluded location means that access is via a narrow, unadopted road which is well maintained, but gravel rather than tarmac. Wisteria is a fantastic property to bring your loved ones to for a fabulous Cornish adventure.
