  • "Thank you for a warm welcome."

The property was immaculately clean and peaceful (loved listening to the owls at night). The Cornish biscuits were appreciated but perhaps some milk on arrival would be useful too (I have seen previous comments where this was provided but not for our visit). It was disappointing to find the garden not accessible from the property, perhaps this should be better explained for those taking dogs and the quality of garden furniture in the allocated field was poor and shabby. The beds and sofas are lovely and comfortable but some of the property is looking a little tired ie storage heaters, fireplace and fire not in keeping with the property. Great parking with access to Port Isaac via a 10 minute walk, however, this gets very muddy and messy particularly as there are cows around so wellies definitely needed.

  • "A lovely stay in a beautiful and quiet location."

A short walk takes you into the relative bustle of Port Isaac. Cottage well furnished and equipped and presented beautifully. We would definitely come again.

  • "When we approached the buildings we were stunned how gorgeous it looked, nestled in a little valley, with an every changing vista of Port Issac a short way in the distance."

The accommodation is in reverse with the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living areas on the 1st floor, all done to capture the view towards the sea and surrounding countryside. The cottage was cosy, well presented and had everything we needed, it had jack and Jill bathroom between the bedrooms, handy for the nights. It was so tranquil and peaceful, that we slept very well all week. We were close to Port issac, a 10 minute walk and easy access to various other places of interest such as Padstow and Newquay and surrounded by local produce farm shops and amenities. The caretakers were so friendly when we saw them, even invited us to join a family birthday party. we would have No hesitation in coming back again and would very highly recommend this cottage And finally, as a warm welcoming we arrived to find, milk, tea and some local produce cookies...Fantastic!!!!!

  • "The night storage heaters were old and did not produce warmth when needed."

The bedrooms were damp and cold. The bath towels were an the small side and no individual hand towels were provided as they should be. It would be good if champagne flutes were provided. However the caretakers were polite and helpful.

Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback. I am sorry that you were disappointed by some aspects of your stay. We would love guests to mention any problems or requests they have to our caretakers as we would like all our guests to be as comfortable as possible. Storage heaters cannot provide instant heat as they store energy overnight and release it the next day but the heaters in the living room and bathrooms do provide instant heat and more heaters are available on request. We now have champagne glasses - thank you for the suggestion. Best wishes, Loveday Property Owner

The cottage itself is a comfortable, well furnished and maintained barn conversion with everything we needed. Beds were really comfortable and it was so quiet there that we all slept well for the whole week. It is in a small valley with pleasant garden and summer house but only a 10 minute walk from Port Isaac. A lovely haven to return to at the end of the day. The area around is stunningly beautiful. Altogether we had a wonderful time

  • "Mill Barn is a wonderful place to stay in a beautiful part of Cornwall."

There is everything you could want in a well equipped kitchen and the bathrooms were sparklingly clean. The bedrooms have loads of storage and the beds were really comfy. There is an outside dining area for when the sun comes out and in the garage a table tennis table which proved lots of fun. The public path to Port Isaac is narrow but very pretty and takes less than 10 mins to walk. Not really suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs or anyone who has mobility problems. It can get a little muddy in places after rain but if you take wellies or walking boots you’ll be fine. The hosts are lovely and very helpful. It’s lovely base to walk to Port Isaac or further and for a pasty at NickyB’s. Very close to some lovely beaches, Polzeath, Trebarwith and Tintagel is not far. The ferry from Rock to Pastow makes a lovely day out too. Everywhere is very dog friendly. Hope to return for another stay soon.

  • "Very clean place but dated."

There was issues with this place firstly the shower, if you are above 5.10 in height don't bother with a shower I'm 6.3 and the top of the shower head came to my chin, trying to hold it above my head was impossible because it fell apart and if you dropped the soap you could not bend down to pick it up cubicle to small the fan does not work so it was a strip wash every time. The oven was useless. The 10 minute walk to portisaac was a joke it took around 3/4 off an hour because it was not kept in a good walking condition it was well overgrown and bogged plus a tree was down blocking the route so on our return we took the road back . We left a day sooner and sorry to say we will not be booking again.

Thank you for your feedback. I was very sorry to hear about the problems you experienced during your stay. It is a shame that you didn't let our caretakers know about the issues you were having as they may have been able to help. If the oven has been turned off at the wall it needs resetting so that it is not timer operated. We now leave instructions on how to do this. The shower is a standard size but unfortunately this may be too small for taller or larger people - we plan to upgrade this when we can afford to. Thanks for alerting us to the broken fan which has been fixed. The footpath to the village is rather rustic and can be muddy ( we recommend that you bring wellies or walking boots) but we can contact the parish council if it is blocked. We have stayed in some dog friendly places previously but they were not up to the high standard of cleanliness of Mill Barn. We were especially grateful for the concise directions provided, if we were following our sat-nav I don't think we would have believed it. If you love cows then Mill Barn is the place for you. So peaceful and quiet. Within easy walking distance to Port Isaac. Coastal walks from the doorstep. The cottage was well equipped and very clean. The only negative we found, was no space to dry towels and wet clothes, especially after a week of rain. There is a garage to hang them up but the air was damp. This is just a very minor issue. We did use the upstairs fire in the evening to take the chill off the place but we were never cold. Richard and Lenka the caretakers for the property are brilliant, not at all imposing. We would definitely return.

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry that you found the mattress uncomfortable. It was bought in 2020 from John Lewis - I would have expected it to last longer than 3 years but we will look into replacing it. Kind regards, Loveday Property Owner

  • "Only down side to this property is the heating, it is inadequate for this type of building, also it needs a proper shower as a caravan shower is not suitable as the shower head is to low and cubic is small and can't bend down , in other words too small to swing a cat ."

..and sink is too small , but the property is in a great location and is the oldest property in port Isaac .

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed the Mill Barn's location but very sorry that you found it cold. Yours was the first let since Christmas. Throughout winter we keep one heater on to stop the property getting damp and switch them all on a couple of days before guests arrive but perhaps this wasn't long enough before your stay as the living room is lofty and it had been very cold. We will take this into account for future lets. The electricity bill for February was £322 even with just the one let! The shower is a standard size but as you noted it is small compared to the more luxurious ones many of us are used to. We shall be putting in a better bathroom as soon as we can afford to. • "If you’re scrolling through the many holiday rentals in and around Port Isaac, then stop."

You really don’t need to look any further. Mill Barn is a cosy space, in a perfect location and is hosted by a couple who have gone above and beyond to ensure our experience was the absolute best - from the generous welcome pack, the kind loan of bodyboards for our children and the advice on the beaches and great walks in our local area. They’ve really facilitated us seeing the best North Cornwall has to offer. One of the most memorable things, and one our children will recount for many years to come I suspect, is the drive down an unmade track through the cow’s field to reach the property - what an adventure! The barn itself is small but perfectly formed (more than adequate for us as a family of four), clean, well equipped and, best of all, a short walk down into the port. We had all the advantages of being just a stone’s throw of the bustling harbour town with it’s quirky shops and range of eateries, but able to retreat to the peace and quiet the properly offered nestled in the hills behind. We loved walking down in the morning and evening for a paddle and an ice cream! Harbour Treats are the best! We would definitely recommend making the most of the local produce while you’re here - Trevathan Farm Shop is just at the top of the road which leads down to The Mill. It offers a huge range of local and seasonal produce. We considered shopping ahead but we were very glad we didn’t and stopped daily for the best Cornish offerings. Being minutes away allowed us to pop in daily - with the added bonus of a play park for the children to enjoy while we shopped - and offered another reason why this house was ideally located. As well as all the foodie delights, The Mill is perfectly positioned for exploring the many incredible beaches in the locality. Mabel, our four legged companion was with us, so our beach highlights are only of dog-friendly locations. We loved Port Gaverne for kayaking and paddle board adventures; Lundy Bay as a beautiful quiet cove for swimming and a few waves; Trebarth is a great surfing beach and, if you can, the walk down to Tregadock is so worth it! We had the whole beach to ourselves one morning - a tip from our wonderful host. The Mill offers a perfect position for accessing all these wonderful locations. It’s unusual we’d consider returning to the same place, never-mind the same property, but we will, without hesitation, be rebooking for 2022. We couldn’t recommended Mill Barn highly enough.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do make every effort to ensure that properties are accurately described on the website. In this case it is noted on the listing for Mill Barn that: 'This property is accessed via an unmade road which passes through a field and may not be suitable for low slung vehicles.'
