  • "In general a comfortable cottage providing adequate comfort."

However , we did find it rather chilly and the electric radiators couldn't be turned up as they are controlled remotely which was not very satisfactory . Fortunately, we could be warmer in the lounge once we lit the log fire but the bedrooms and bathroom were far too cold. Also, felt that the signs stuck on the property walls asking for dogs not to use the grass was a bit unnecessary. If the owners are not happy for dogs to use the grass why do they accept pets? Sometimes it is unavoidable to take your dog outside of the cottage premises to toilet and I have never stayed where I have been asked to keep my dog off the grass to 'preserve it" !! Also ,received 2 emails the day before arrival stating the same. I find this quite insulting. As a responsible dog owner I always clean up after my dog and make sure the cottage is left clean and tidy.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you felt chilly, I believe they are set to 22 degrees. Did you let Brays know while you were there? As this could have been rectified immediately. I am not sure why you received two emails I will ask the IT dept to look into this as this shouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately we had to pop the note up in the cottage because we had a few incidents where owners hadn’t cleaned up after their pets and this wasn’t nice for the next guests. I am sure you can understand that. We are always happy for pets to stay. I hope you had a lovely holiday despite this. Kind Regards Jayne (owner) Property Owner

  • "The living room smelt bad."

The carpets looked grubby In the living room. Cobwebs on the walls, around windows and light fittings. The mattress sunk in the middle. It was dark and dingy in the living room. The kitchen was ok but a lot smaller than the photos suggested and the kitchen sink/drain also smelt funny. While the kitchen and bathroom looked recently refurbished the living room looked neglected and dated Only some rooms had a new ceiling so it was only half renovated. Positives were the quiet location and the back garden. The kitchen was well equipped.

Hi Lisa thank you for this feedback I will speak to housekeeping about the cleaning and the sink. I can assure you the whole cottage has been refurbished in the last two years including new carpets, new mattresses, furniture and a new kitchen and bathroom. We hope you managed to had a restful holiday. Kind Regards Jayne (Owner) Property Owner

Lovely well-decorated cottage in a peaceful location a short (hilly) walk from Port Isaac but some things to be aware of: Tall families will find the low ceilings painful Limited parking - very hard to squeeze 2 cars in Tiny hot water tank not even sufficient to fill a bath No clothes storage in second bedroom No dishwasher Internet not super reliable

Dr Guthrie thank you for taking the time to feedback. Sorry to hear you weren’t 100% satisfied. There is a note about the ceiling height in our listing and there is no mention of a dishwasher so neither should have been a surprise. The internet can be a problem in the remote areas, that is Cornwall I am afraid. Note about storage, the room is just too small. We have never had a problem parking our Discovery and another car in the driveway. I will explore water tank as this is brand new but not been mentioned before. We are down next week so will explore ourselves. Thank you again and I hope you had a lovely holiday. Regards Jayne (owner) Property Owner

  • "Swallow Cottage was the perfect holiday hideaway, situated at the top of Church Hill in Port Isaac, Cornwall."

The cottage was beautifully presented and had a real homely feel to it. We instantly felt at home there, and couldn't fault it in any way. The rear garden was lovely and had everything we needed to relax away from the stresses and strains of normal life. I assumed that the walk back up the hill from the village would be extremely arduous, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how easy it was, (although I think a couple of pints of Tribute courtesy of The Golden Lion may have assisted slightly). We really enjoyed the peace and quiet that the cottage offers, and the lovely views across the open countryside to the rear. Even though the weather was not great, the homely feel to the cottage more than made up for it, enabling us to chill out and recharge our batteries for a week before we head back to the stressful world of work. We would highly recommend the cottage and will definitely book it again in the future. Many thanks for giving us a fantastic week away from home. Mark & Laura Wallace

Mark and Laura I am so thrilled you had a lovely relaxing holiday in our little cottage. We think its a very special place where you can switch off from busy lives. • "What a great cottage!"

! The cottage was presented nicely and made our stay a very relaxed one. The beds were very comfy, the kitchen well equipped for family cooking and located in such a peaceful area. We enjoyed many evenings in after exploring the local area, my daughter loved sitting in the window seats reading her book. The children and the dog loved the garden and we found ourselves watching the cows in the field most evenings, so very peaceful. We enjoyed the lovely field walk down into Port Isaac, such breathtaking views at the top. It really was a relaxing break and the house offered everything we needed, the added touches of a welcome basket and some family board games was great. Lola, our dog, enjoyed her first holiday and i am sure we will be visiting Swallow Cottage again.

Emma Thank you SO much for such lovely feedback. We are thrilled to hear you had such a relaxing break with the family and really hope you do get to stay with us again. All the very best Jayne x (Owner) Property Owner

Peaceful location overlooking fields. Well equipped kitchen and very comfortable clean beds. Convenient location to the scenic and quaint village of Port Issac which has a selection of traditional eatery’s with an option to have a drink on the harbour wall. Would recommend local trips to Polzeath beach and Daymer bay - both stunning with lots to do and great body boarding or surfing. A cliff top walk to Rock with lunch or dinner at the Mariners pub is a fabulous day out. Overall would recommend Swallow cottage for a perfect Cornish break.

The cottage is so cosy and beautifully decorated, the kitchen is really well equipped with everything you need. The bedrooms are lovely and comfortable and the garden is a great size. The Internet went down while we were there, we phoned the agent and an engineer was sent out the same day who fixed it straight away, it was fantastic service on behalf of the owner/agent. Port Isaac is just a 10 minute walk away, although the hill down to Port Isaac is very steep. You can also take a scenic route through fields and the coastal path which takes a bit longer. Lots of lovely walks and areas nearby. We would definitely recommend Swallow Cottage and would love to stay there again!

  • "We really enjoyed our time at Sky Cottage."

It was a lovely place to be. We spent there 2 weeks in July 2023. The garden was as beautiful as shown in the pictures with this really amazing tree in the middle. The 10 Minute walk to the village was really breathtaking on the way back and only for fit people. But we didn't cares because the view down the hill was really beautiful and we just took our time on the way up. We had read about the low ceilings in other reviews so were prepared for that. Still, there were some bumps, especially on the men's side, although these aren't overly large. The bathroom was charming with its old style, however the shower could use an update. We had a big, black, hairy dog with us. It was all great but unfortunately the vaccum cleaner didn't worked well, so the light grey carpet couldn't be cleaned up as good as neccessary. Sorry for that. But our dog loved the carpet :) Overall the house was very appealing, charming and homely!

Claudia Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. We have scheduled to fit a new bathroom in Jan 2024. Thank you for letting us know about the hoover. I have since bought a new hoover for the cottage. We hope you’ll visit us again sometime. Jayne (owner) Property Owner

You are therefore able to escape the crowds during peak season ! The garden is delightful , well maintained and we managed a few evenings sitting out in the evening sun. The Cottage is well presented and decorated to give a warm homely feel. The kitchen which I believe has recently been refurbished is lovely but sadly no room for a Dishwasher :( The Bathroom which apparently is to be renovated at the end of the year is of a good size. Although the shower is old it would have looked more presentable if care had been taken by the cleaning team to remove the mold inside. Thankyou for the Welcome Basket !

Lorraine, Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback. I am glad you had an enjoyable holiday. I am afraid the kitchen is a little too small to fit in a dishwasher, we tried so hard to fit one in when we designed this in Jan 23 however it just wasn't possible. I am so sorry to hear about the cleaning of the shower this isn't acceptable. I have sent a note to the head of housekeeping at John Brays now. I can only apologies of this, this isn't good enough. • "We loved our stay at Swallow cottage."

Everything was as described with welcome hamper, coffee machine with some pods etc as per the listing. The bathroom is yet to be refurbished but we actually didn’t have any issues, the room is very large and spacious and the water pressure was great and water always hot! The kitchen was newly refurbished and was really well equipped with everything we needed and lots of really helpful extras such as plastic Tupperware to take lunch to the beach etc. The beach bag to borrow was a really lovely touch also! There was a little stooping under a few of the beams from my husband and I but that was expected for the little cottage and I am super tall. The garden is gorgeous and is bigger than you expect when looking at the photos. It backs onto a field with some cows who are lovely and come say hello when you are in the garden. The garden looked pretty closed off but our spaniel was always bound to find a way into the field -thankfully the cows ignored him and we got him back quickly. My one piece of feedback I gave to John Brays is to provide better directions as we got lost and ended up asking someone in a local house who pointed us in the right direction. If you get to the bollards saying maximum 6ft for cars, turn around and take the first right :) Thanks so much for a lovely stay. House was spacious, it was really peaceful and quiet and we lucked in with the weather this week so ideal! ;)

Tastefully decorated. The kitchen and bathroom were functional but tired… Nice Aldi Christmas hamper greeted us but in all honesty a welcome pack of teabags, coffee, milk and hot water(not switched on)would have been more appreciated after a long drive… Areas to be improved: Proper directions, signage to cottage ( had been requested by previous guests but ignored as no signs visible) Ability to moderate room temperature- bathroom set at 7c all stay so freezing. Had to request heating to be turned up from 7c in twin bedroom. Ditto Rooms got v hot but we couldn’t turn heating down… rather annoying! Boom or bust. Christmas tree/decorations for Christmas bookings - this surprised us as we often rent over Christmas and there has always been a Christmas tree…or some decoration. Later checkout than 9am.. several visitors had requested this already having read the visitors book comments… Better stocked kitchen- we didn’t even have a teapot or mixing bowl… Overall it was a very cosy cottage and we had a wonderful stay.

Hi Laura - Firstly thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, it is so important to us. I am glad you had a wonderful stay and found the cottage to be comfortable and cosy. A brand new kitchen is being fitted, starting today 3/1/23, and the bathroom is scheduled for next winter. I am so glad you enjoyed the cheese and port I sent down for you for Xmas and I am so sorry that Brays didn't leave out the usual hamper which includes tea, coffee and biscuits, I have logged this with their housekeeping team. I received two phone calls on Xmas eve about the heating and I understood this was all sorted. If you had let Brays know they could have called again or sent someone from maintenance around to visit. I have noted the Xmas tree/decorations, you were our first Xmas guests so will consider this for 2023. I will purchase the kitchen items you mentioned that were missing for the new kitchen. I am so sorry about the early check out but this is not something I can influence. This is a standard Brays check out across all their cottages. Kind Regards Jayne (Owner) Property Owner

  • "Tucked away deep in the beautiful Cornish countryside, Swallow cottage, provides a very quiet, cosy holiday retreat."

A sensitive, almost complete refurbishment, retains its charming, unique character of a Cornish Fishermans cottage. The North coast is rugged and beautiful, which provides walks and visits to many well-known attractions, Swallow cottage affords reasonable access to many of them. The Eden Project The lost gardens of Heligan, St Ives and Lands End for example. There is a wide selection of pubs and restaurants in the area. If eating out is your choice which was ours The Saint Kew Inn, The Maltsters Arms, Port, Gaverne, Hotel and the Pilchards Inn in Port Gaverne were all within a 15 minute drive, every one was most enjoyable with the Pilchards being really special. We would recommend Swallow cottage and the area to anyone and have already done so to friends and family.

The minute we arrived we found the roomy cottage spotlessly clean and beautifully styled. Such a peaceful scenic location. There is such a pretty garden with views across the fields which was greatly enjoyed by our dog and us and it was so refreshing having a parking space right outside. The cottage is perfectly situated for a stroll into pretty Port Isaac and although it's one big steep hill it was a lovely quiet, safe road to walk with our children and dog. It was also so nice to arrive after a long journey to find a welcome basket of tea, coffee pods and biscuits. The much needed espresso machine was an absolute winner. The location was just perfect for exploring all the places we wanted to see again and the recommendations in the cottage book were ideal t especially as it was our first holiday with our dog. The kitchen cupboard is STILL broken (see previous comments) and the hot water tap in the bathroom STILL doesn't work (again, see previous comments). We loved the setting and the living room, but the bathroom and kitchen need attention, especially if you're charging top dollar. The repair issues are probably due to the inefficiency of Sykes Cottages, rather than the owners, as they were really useless from a customer/guest perspective too - needed follow-ups for basics. Won't use Sykes again.

It is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Swallow Cottage. I am really sorry for the issues you encountered we will ensure to follow this up internally. I will ensure that the issue with the kitchen cupboard and hot water tap are resolved. I have spoken with the maintenace team at Brays and they assured me these issues are now fixed. I am so sorry this wasn't the case for your stay with us. • "‘’Cottage garden, lounge and bedrooms were lovely and parking on the front good’’ This lovely cottage is in an area up from the harbour of Port Isaac, however we hadn’t been aware that the hill as a 1/4 gradient would prove so hard each time you had to walk to get to it !"

(our group is fairly fit too with adults of 50 years and young adults and a dog) - otherwise you had to move your vehicle along the extremely narrow road to the main route to drive to it (would suggest the hedgerows need cutting back to aid vision). The cottage itself, as reviewer stated in May, was beautiful in part, but let down by the kitchen and bathroom that remains as previously described. The door remains broken in the kitchen and we had to fill the bathroom sink with hot water from the bath as the sink tap didn’t work (we reported this) and I had to clean the bath on arrival before using it. We also reported the issue with the front door as couldn’t get back in one evening due to issue with the lock - so overall we feel the price bracket wasn’t justified. Suggest that the cottage would be improved with the refurb already discussed previously, but a downstairs toilet in the front porch would be an excellent idea also. However, for us if the improvements were made we would not stay in this side of the harbour again due the accessibility, but that said would like to end on a positive as all of us had a good break away.

Thank you Claire for taking the time to provide feedback this is so important to us. I have made contact with John Brays regarding the sink tap, bath being dirty and the front door to ensure these are all dealth with for our next guests. I can only apologies for these. Yes Swallow Cottage as you know is positioned in a very quiet hamlet and if you are walking the route into the village is either down Church Hill which is a steep hill or via the fields which has less of a gradient. Port Isaac like many Cornish villages hills are steep. We carried out a refurbishment of part of the cottage during 2022 and plan to continue this refurbishment of the kitchen and bathroom very soon. • "We loved the lounge, bedrooms & garden."

Kitchen & Bathroom are really tired & quite tatty for this price bracket. Shower was pretty grotty and shower doors needed descaling, kitchen unit door broken with sign on stating. My wife had to buy cleaning products to clean. She even had to clean the cooker shelves before putting pizza in. We are in the renting Business, and would certainly not rent out with these rooms in this condition, and certainly wouldn’t to holiday makers. A friend of the owner popped round while my wife & daughter were in, to drop a mat off. So we are sure, because of this, the owner would have known about the builders opposite, as they had already been there a few weeks. Noise was constant & we even had to keep the front blinds shut, as it felt weird having 4 men just outside your window all week! We only booked 2 days before travelling down, so we feel really angry that we were not informed of this. We had half a dozen properties we could have booked from. When you only get 1-2 weeks away, it’s really upsetting to not even be able to chill out in the lovely garden, because of the constant noise! We even left to come home on the Friday morning! Builders were fine and even apologised, and felt quite sorry for us, also stating, we should have been informed. To add to all this, our dog was constantly barking at them, & my car was covered in building dust! We haven’t covered everything, but as you can see, this really isn’t great, travelling home 300miles early to get some peace and quiet. Holidays are way too rare for most people, & certainly not cheap, so it really hits hard when you have experiences like this, when you finally get chance for your family to spend a week together. Kind Regards, C A Meakin.

Port Isaac 0.8 miles.

Swallow Cottage is a wonderfully characterful, semi-detached cottage resting in Lower Trefreock, Cornwall.

Boasting original features including exposed beams and an open fire, along with a quintessentially cottage-like décor which runs throughout the property, this cottage is ideal for a peaceful family holiday, or as a pet-friendly base for exploring the delights of Cornwall with your canine companion.

On arrival at the cottage, a private driveway leads to two off-road parking spaces where you can park up and forget about your car if you wish!

Enter the cottage to find stunning flagstone floors in the porch, adding to the charm of the space, leave your coats and shoes before making your way through to the kitchen.

Pop the kettle on for a well-earned cup of tea while you discuss dinner plans with your loved ones; the kitchen offers everything you need to rustle up tasty home-cooked meals including an electric oven and hob, and there is even a handy washing machine for your clothes after a sandy day at the beach.

From here, gather in the living/dining room to enjoy your meal as you catch up on the day's events while the open fire crackles nearby, sure to be your pets favourite resting spot!

When it is time to relax, flick on the TV and snuggle up before night rolls in and you make your way to bed.

Climbing the stairs, the first floor offers two well-appointed bedrooms, a king-size and a twin with a truckle, ideal for the children of the group to slumber together.

Completing the interior is a family bathroom with both a bath and a walk-in shower; freshen up in the morning with a quick rinse and unwind in the evenings with a long hot soak.

Outside, the garden offers an alternative dining arrangement with the barbecue and furniture on the patio, as well as a place for your four-legged friend to run and stretch on the lawn which is lined by pretty mature shrubbery.

This gem of a cottage presents gorgeous views of the rolling hills, while still resting within walking distance of Port Isaac's harbour, meaning picture-perfect walks and plenty of shops and eateries can be reached easily.

If you don't fancy cooking one evening, choose from a lovely selection of eateries; cafés to take your morning coffee and cake in, such as Chapel Café, The Krab Pot which is right by the harbour and offers a heartier meal, two fantastic pubs, The Slipway Restaurants or take your pick of Nathan Outlaw's two fantastic restaurants.
