  • "This property is described as having two balconies, on arrival we discovered only one was available to use."

We booked this apartment in April, having looked back at the reviews, during our stay, this was reported in June and no one notified us before our holiday. Having reported it, the owner said it was ok as one balcony was available, and offered no redress. The balcony just about seats two, there was three of us so we could not all sit outside at the same time. The mat in the dining area is a trip hazard and dirty. The parking area needs to be clearly marked as the number is obscured by undergrowth. I would not stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback after your stay. We are sorry to hear that only one of the balconies wasn't in use however before your arrival we were not informed of this. Please be assured we have now made ammends to the website decription to accomodated this and have informed all future guests when you reported this to us. We hope you shall change your mind and consider rebooking again in the near future. Kind regards, Carbis Bay Holidays Team. Property Owner

  • "On arrival, we were disappointed to find that one of the balconies was out of action."

The cold water in the twin bedroom was not working and plumbers established that the service valve had not been turned on. There was no toaster and when reported it was disputed by the owner, THERE WAS NO TOASTER! It took several days to get one. The WiFI was not working at all in any of the apartments. I can see from earlier comments that this had been reported but not resolved. Blamed BT

  • "Alfred Wallis is a great location to explore St Ives and soak up the wonderful views."

The apartment is located on the second floor and parking is about a 7 minute walk away. I would advise unloading at the long stay car park as the road leading down to the apartment is very narrow. The allocated space itself was easy enough find by the directions given, however the space was hard to locate due to overgrown weeds and a large 4x4 encroaching on the allocated space for Alfred Wallis. The markings had also faded. The space is more suited for a smaller car rather than a large family car. Once parked, we rarely needed the car unless we were heading out of St Ives. There are plenty of walks, shops, beaches, bus transportation to get around. Access to the property involves steps and steep inclines. Some would find this difficult. It certainly helped me reach 10k steps a day! We arrived late Friday evening due to traffic. The key collection instructions were clear and easy to find. We were greeted with an overwhelming smell from the drains in both bathrooms. After flushing the shower drains through with hot water this did seem to help. The apartment was clean, beds were comfy. Both bathrooms had been updated since the photos on the advertisement. A new sofa in the living area. I would point out there were no hand soaps in both bathrooms. Something which we usually expect when we stay with Sykes, and especially when paying nearly £1500 for a week. I would recommend advising customers this is a necessary item to bring with them when staying at Alfred Wallis. There was a hair dryer provided in both bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped apart from there being no toaster. A simple kitchen gadget which is handy for an easy breakfast. The patio doors were not in use in the kitchen area, only the living room side. The WiFi was ok. A couple of days we had very poor service. The TV lost signal for a day or so. We couldn’t find any sky Chanel’s, only free view and Netflix through the PS3. Disposing of household waste was not as described in the folder. The wheelie bins are located in the outhouse at the back of the property. I ended up having to ask a neighbour on the first floor who also struggled to locate the bins. We stayed during May Halfterm. I wouldn’t be happy to pay anymore than we did, especially in the summer holidays. The only welcome item we received was a pint of milk and No hand soap. Some board games, a few books would be a nice touch. Especially on the rainy days when there is poor signal and the tv doesn’t want to work. Overall Alfred Wallis is a lovely apartment which could do with a few finishing touches to make the stay a 10/10.

Thank you for your feedback. We shall look into the points you have raised to improve on, We are glad you overall enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, Carbis Bay Holidays Team. Property Owner

Struggled a bit with the bathrooms - particularly the one in double room as the drawn was not aligned with the slope of the floor. Building work next door woke us up at 8am.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the location and views. We are sorry to hear you struggled with the bathroom and that the building work nearby work you up. • "In the wet rooms we missed “a thing” (sorry don’t know the term in English) to dry floors and walls after a shower."

Now we had to push water left on the floor by our feet into a floor drain. The floor drain beside the double bedroom didn’t work properly. But we used mainly the shower in the twin bedroom.

Thank you for your feedback. • "The location was great, and the views were perfect."

The accommodation itself is quite small and the showers were quite low pressure and didn't get very warm in one of the rooms (the twin). The kitchen was great though. The description of the TV package was a downright lie. There is no SKY box at all, my son was excited to be able to watch the football on SKY sports and was very disappointed that this was lied about on the description. Another lie - there is no SMART TV, it is an old small freesat TV - no IPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc - which you would expect from a SMART tv. Other issue was that the accommodation was very hard to find - you should provide a map to both the property and the parking spot. You should also state clearly that the parking spot is a considerable distance from the house.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the views from the apartment. Regarding the TV package we are sorry to hear you had issues with the Sky, we can confirm the apartment does have a full Sky Package including Sky sports, there is a Sky box located in the unit above the sofa and is connected via a magic eye located underneath the TV. The source needs to be on TV for the Sky to work along with the Sky box turned on. We are sorry to hear you had trouble finding the accommodation. Please note our local office is open Monday – Saturday from 9am –5:30 and we will be more than happy to assist with any queries you may have. Despite the issues you encountered we do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future. Kind Regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team. Property Owner

  • "A great place to stay!"

But the information about the way to the house was very poor, as the rest of the information, e.g. the imformation about the box for the keys were wrong, it took 1 hour to find the right one.

We thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback and comments following your stay at Alfred Wallis. Its great to hear you liked the apartment! We are sorry you have experienced difficulties with the directions and the key collection details. We can assure you that we will look into this closely and amend the descriptions if necessary to make these clearer going forward. We are pleased we were able to assist over the phone with the directions and gaining access to the allocated key safe. Best wishes, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

Only suggestion would be re the TV/Sky TV - we couldn't get this working and it seems outdated. It didn't bother us too much - we watched the football in the pub! :)

Thank you very much for your feedback, we will pass your comments across to the housekeeper and her team. We will also investigate the issue with the Sky TV to make sure this is in full working order. We are delighted you had such a wonderful holiday! • "Parking not acceptable."

The location of this property is great and the views are lovely but there’s a few points that need highlighting for future people looking to book. PROS: Flat itself is clean and well kitted out. Some lovely extras like biscuits and tea and coffee. Sky TV and good Wi-Fi signal. Location is brilliant and very short walk to Porthmeor beach, harbour and main shops. Views are outstanding. CONS: Firstly access for unloading the car is only possible via a very steep narrow lane which is also a dead end. It’s very hard to get down there due to the nature of the lane and other people trying the same thing. Secondly and importantly is the parking isn’t acceptable. It’s not close and a good steep walk to it but more importantly as it’s just a gravel bit of land there is not enough room for all the cars. I was blocked in by other cars and couldn’t open my doors to access my car or move it for a planned day trip thus affecting our holiday experience. This really needs to change. Due to the poor access to unload I also spent time ferrying bags back and fore which took a long time. The bathrooms are wet rooms and so if you shower in the morning the whole floor is wet all day when using the toilets or sinks. Balcony has a cracking view but is very tiny with hardly any room to move. The location itself is brilliant but steep as are the stairs in the property so wouldn’t be great for some older people. I appreciate a lot of these issues are expected with a location like St Ives but it should be made known on the website. It’s worth saying that while the parking issue couldn’t be resolved the service we received when we contacted Sykes was very good. I wouldn’t book again unless the parking issue was changed and clearly pictured what the new space was on the listing. I also think pictures of the access to the property should be added as trying to reverse down that steep narrow lane would not be pleasant for some people hence why I didn’t try it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and comments following your stay at Alfred Wallis. We are pleased that you have found the apartment clean and well equipped. We agree that Alfred Wallis apartment has a great location with outstanding views. We are saddened to hear that you have had some parking issues during your stay and can assure you that we will look into this to see if there is anything else we can do. • "The location of the property is excellent and the facilities are good."

Note that the balconies are quite a lot smaller than they look in the images. The sofa is quite uncomfortable and noisy and when you showers the bathrooms get completely flooded. It also takes about a day for the water to dry up unless you completely soak some towels and throw them in the dryer after. Despite all this we had a great stay due to the location and the beautiful St. Ives.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback as it its important to us! We are saddened to hear that a couple of things did not live up to your expectations and can assure you that we will look into these points raised, make amendments and pass information on the right department if necessary. We appreciate your comments and are happy to hear that you overall still had a great stay. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "First & foremost, a lovely property & location."

Amazing views. Immaculately clean. Worth noting it's on the top floor, up 2 flights of steep stairs, and getting to / from the building also involves steps and steep hills. Fine if you're fit, but if elderly / infirm it could be an issue. Finally, be aware that if you need to cancel after booking you will only get fully refunded if you take the cancellation insurance which they repeatedly push. This is not the case with all comparable cottage holiday companies, so is an extra cost to factor in if you're comparing like with like.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we are very pleased that you really enjoyed the property and found the property immaculately clean. Many people when booking a property have cancellation insurance with another party such as their bank so if this is an option for you, then you can choose which cancellation insurance you wish to take in the unlikely event that you do need to cancel your holiday. Alternatively, we can ask the owners for a change off dates which is subject to their agreement if you need an additional option. Kind regards, The Carbis Bay Holidays Team Property Owner

  • "Delightful apartment with absolutely fantastic views from the balconies, looking out over two beaches either side of the peninsula."

Property had all the mod cons, you need or want for nothing, including a hairdryer which wasn't listed on the property details. Note, the apartment is at the top of the building, up a few flights of stairs. The property is in the middle of St Ives, just a short, albeit a steep, walk down into the throng of wonderful shops, eateries and beaches, and the Tate is almost on the doorstep. We sampled delights at the harbour fish & chip restaurant, as well as a delicious meal at The Sea Food Cafe, and would highly recommend the fine dining experience at 27 The Terrace. If you don't get chance to have a cream tea in one of the many cafes, get a takeaway one and enjoy it overlooking the scenery from the balcony. Oh, don't forget to get your order of Cornish pasties and saffron cake to go home with from Warrens Bakery on Market Square..., ooh the aroma in the car home was heaven! We were notified of a minor detail a few days before we arrived that may have affected our stay, and which, whilst not able to remedied before we left, we were updated during our stay and recompensed as a result. Highly recommend your stay at Alfred Wallis.
