  • "This would be the forth time we have rented this Property as it is in a great location."

Weather was amazing so the proximity of Porthcurno and porthchaple beaches are just a short walk. The views from the Property are outstanding and there is room to park two cars. We had bbqs and fun playing games on the garden area.

  • "We hadn't realised that the adjacent Minack Theatre is now so popular, and it was challenging that quite often it was almost impossible to get out of the bungalow or return because of the sheer volume of traffic coming down the very narrow lane."

The bungalow is situated right next to the Minack overflow carpark, which wasn't made clear in the description. The bungalow is an illogical construction; it must have been extended several times. It was well equipped - we had everything we needed, but has a general air of being unloved and rather neglected. Lots of spiders. The seats of the sofas have sagged appreciably. Information about recycling, rubbish disposal and what is available in the area would have been useful. We met the owner, and understood the housekeeper was ill, which might answer some of the issues we have mentioned. It was disconcerting not to have a local contact number in case of emergency. Ringing Sykes Cottages is not a good option, and we were fortunate not to need to contact anyone urgently. The views from the bungalow are magnificent and we were lucky to have good weather and some amazing sunrises and sunsets. It was very kind of the owner to come down from London to sort out the bungalow, and to get us some milk and flowers as a welcome for us.

  • "Rospletha Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Cornwall and probably the UK."

We had an amazing few days exploring the local area, with the Minack theatre, the coves and the coastal path right on our doorstep! Simply stunning! Sadly, the first few days of our week were spoiled by the unclean state of the kitchen when we arrived. I had to put all the plates, cutlery and utensils in the dishwasher, wash the tiles, the shelves, the glasses. There was even a full cup of coffee left in the microwave, with mould on it. There were cobwebs in lots of places (stressed me as I am not a fan of spiders) and we weren’t able to open the French doors onto the patio until the owner ‘forced’ them open later, which we had not dared to do. The hinges were just very rusty, due to the sea air I guess. We were also put off by the fact that the owners were staying in their wooden chalet in the garden, right across the cottage’s patio, so sitting outside didn’t feel private at all. This chalet is neither mentioned in the cottage description, nor showing on any of the photos for the cottage on Sykes. Also, there IS a huge field at the back of the house, with sea views, but it is also the overflow car park for the Minack theatre, so every afternoon, we had hundreds of cars/vans and people just 100 meters or so from our rental. Again, something which is not mentioned in the description. The owners of the cottage / chalet had visitors coming across ‘our’ garden on two occasions…this was not acceptable. On the first night, we arrived quite late because of heavy holiday traffic. When I saw the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen (namely dirty plates and cutlery draw), I went over to the chalet to mention this to the owner (who had just welcomed us and said to come and see him if there were any problems). I thought they’d like to let their cleaning company know…well, I was not received well at all! I won’t go into the details as we did receive apologies the next morning but I was left shaken. Rospletha is an amazing place, but, as a family, we all felt the same: Rosphetha Cottage needs more cleaning, TLC and private garden space. Also, I would not have chosen this cottage if I’d known that we would be sharing the garden with its owners.

We are sorry you found so much to complain about. There seem to be 3 issues. 1. Cleanliness: You found one cup left in the microwave. One plate not clean on the back. An undisclosed problem with a spatula. Some cobwebs. None of this is acceptable and we apologise. Given your forensic examination of the property, we assume everything else was Immaculate. 2. The garden. As the website clearly shows there is no garden as such. The bungalow abuts a 3 and a half acre field. The acre closest to the bungalow belongs to it. The remainder belongs to the Minack who use the third of the field furthest from the bungalow as an overflow car park for approximately 2-3 hours 4 afternoon a week during their season. We have considered ;planting trees or building a wall but feel it would detract from the sense of space. 3. Given there is no garden it is axiomatic that we cannot share it with the occupiers of the bungalow so this allegation is simply untrue. The ‘chalet’ as you describe it is not only screened by a treebut at all times when we stay there we keep the blinds closed on the two windows closest to the bungalow. We are scrupulous in our respect for the privacy of our guests in the bungalow as is evidenced in kinder feedback on this thread. We note you logged that we had visitors on two occasions. We have no idea whether you did or not. Perhaps it is our privacy that is the issue! Finally if you are coming to Cornwall in the summer looking for solitude you are doomed to disappointment. • "We enjoyed our stay at Rospletha and appreciated the comfortable beds at the end of busy days at the theatre."

In general the property was well appointed. However we felt the kitchen would benefit from a deep clean. Examples included the cutlery drawer, microwave and shelves over the sink. Also the radio was covered in a sticky residue. It would have been helpful to have a handbook with guidance on rubbish, recycling, etc., although the folder with details about local history was very interesting.

  • "Wonderful week spent at Rospletha!"

Perfectly situated for walking to the Minack for a show! Everything was lovely! Not sure how much of the garden/field actually belonged to the bungalow!!!

So glad you enjoyed your time at Rospletha. We seem to be having some very nice guests! The situation with regards to the field is that one third belongs to the bungalow. The boundary is marked by some thin wooden posts. Property Owner

  • "Although the bungalow is in a beautiful location, has good parking, is spacious and is very close to the Minack theatre, there were a few problems: It has an open fire but you need to provide your own logs and these are not available locally."

There were no clear recycling instructions or collection dates – ended up taking most of ours home as the box was full on arrival. The holiday let description needs updating as the local pub has gone, as has the shop and the café was closed for season. No owner contact details so had to work through the agent initially. TV didn’t work, reported on arrival but took 5 days to resolve; was also surprised that no hair dryer is provided. A big (and apparently a known problem) was the kitchen sink is blocked. This should be sorted as a priority! I would recommend a thorough ‘deep clean’ as some surfaces (eg doors) were grubby and ‘sticky to touch’. This may sound as if the stay was a disaster, but it wasn’t, far from it. It was just missing care and a little TLC. Oh, and a frying pan that you can lift without being Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  • "We arrived after 3pm, after a 6 hour drive, and found the cleaners there."

They us told the arrival time was 4-30pm. We stood outside waiting for them to finish. Before they left we were informed they had no clean towels and had washed the ones from the previous occupants and left them for us to dry. They said any problems to give them a call on the landline. The overall cleanliness was poor, cobwebs across pictures on the walls. The interior and sofas were tired and well used. When we came to light the fire ,we always specify an open fire, there wasn't any wood, kindling etc to use. There was no welcome pack with contact details. The only contact we had was from Sykes email. We rang that and found it was a recorded message from Sykes. Consequently, we had no open fire throughout the stay, The location was beautiful and grass area outside was nice for the dogs to run and play.

  • "What a fantastic location."

With the Minack Theatre so close by and easy access to SW coastal path its perfect for walks and adventures, to return to your house to relax for a glass of wine and food with fantastic views from patio or conservatory. Then sink into really comfy beds for restful sleep so you can get up at dawn and watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. Will be returning if I can get the time I want for next year.

  • "The holiday cottage is in a great position to explore the south west cornwall."

The costal path and two amazing beaches are only about 5 minutes walk away. The cottage has all the amenities needed and is a comfortable homely environment for any family. We loved that we had a great view and space to play games in the garden area. This is a great base to be in Cornwall and is our second holiday in this cottage. We love this place so much we have booked a third stay for next year.

  • "We had a lovely week at Rospletha Bungalow."

The house was well equipped and clean throughout. The location is amazing above one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. It just a short 5-10 min walk down to the beach which our youngest (aged 4) could manage. The owners live next door so it's handy if there are any problems, but unless you ask they leave you alone to enjoy your holiday in private, which was nice. The only slight problem was we arrived at the check-in time of 3pm only to find the cleaners still in the house who told us the time should actually be 4:30pm and that Sykes had not updated the communications as they had requested.

  • "We spent 7 nights at Rospletha Cottage and loved every minute of it."

The location was perfect for us. A 10 minute walk to our favourite beach and lovely coastal walks for our dog. We spent a few nights BBQing on the beach, fish and chips at Penzance and the local pub. All of the rooms were lovely with plenty of space. The house itself was big enough for us as a family of four. The land was great for our dog, though she is very well behaved and just potters about. Waking up every morning to the sea was perfect. Couldn't of asked for a better property. It was a nice surprise to have the Minack nextdoor to us...what a place!!!! Breath taking. The property was clean and had everything we needed. With regards to dog walks...we did the coastal walk every morning onto the Rospletha Cliffs and further down a coastal walk. 100% will book again without a doubt. Thank you.
