  • "Cottage was great and the parking with two cars was fine ."

The garage was very spacious and the extra fridge freezer was a welcome bonus . Beds were comfortable and the whole house was spotlessly clean .A wonderful house keeper ! We did think a mirror downstairs would be very useful to check appearance or do make up as the two bathrooms were upstairs and if occupied, not so easy . We could not seem to get the heating to work in the mornings even though my husband tried several times and referred to the manual. We did notice the damp problem with the fire place but it did not affect our stay in any way . The bottle of cornish gin was a lovely gesture even so .Hope you get it sorted soon .Thanks for a lovely week.

Thanks for your feedback. The heating has been checked and is running normally on timed. It also immediately comes on if you override it manually. We have mirrors in each bedroom as well as both bathrooms but will look to see if we have space for one downstairs. Thanks again, Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay, the cottage was well equipped and the very short walk to the pub was ideal!"

We had a couple of rainy days and the damp around the fireplace was very noticeable. We had a couple of young children with us and the stair gate was appreciated! Some of the information in the guest information book was out of date (WiFi code) and it would have been helpful to know where to put the rubbish on Saturday morning as we weren't sure.

Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. The chimney. has now been sealed and so we are hoping this problem is sorted. Unfortunately we won't be able to decorate that wall again until October when our bookings finish. There is a laminated leaflet left in the kitchen that details the rubbish collection so Im not sure if this had been moved by a previous gust. It is now back in the kitchen for people to find. The wifi code has ben changed in the booklet but. can also be found on the back of the router as detailed in the welcome book. Thanks again for your visit. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a lovely quiet village."

The only thing to be aware (especially if you have young children), is that cars, trucks, and even a bus, do travel at relative high speed within feet of the front door and side exit, so keep an eye on small ones. However, that’s not really a comment on the cottage which was lovely, clean and roomy with two reception rooms, and good sized bedrooms where up to 6 people could stay comfortably (we were a group of 4 so more than enough space). The beds were all comfortable and everybody slept well. The cottage is within 2 minutes walk of the local public house that serves food for 6 days a week, but not Sunday evening as they’re closed. The garden backs onto a church graveyard so nobody overlooking. We visited the church and the graveyard and had a nice walk around. The garden provided plenty of outside space for relaxing, eating and drinking if you didn’t want to sit indoors. There was a big umbrella to keep the sun (or rain!!) off. The location is excellent being only 4 minutes drive from the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and 15/20 min drive to St Austell and the supermarkets (ASDA and Tesco). Mevagissy was also very close. Eden Project was around 30 minutes drive away. We all had a wonderful week staying in Trelan. However, there was one (what we thought was minor as it didn’t impact the holiday) issue that needs to be said… We read on a previous review that somebody had reported water ingress in the chimney breast in the main lounge. Whilst we were staying at Trelan it did rain a lot, and the wall in the lounge was literally oozing with water coming through the plaster in several places. We have photographs to evidence it. The damp patches were there for several days. In addition, the small snug sitting room had a musty smell that overtime became too much. We did leave the room window open when we were in the property to air it off, but the musty smell still persistent. Finally, when we got home we realised that all our clothes smelt quite musty which we think could only have come from staying in the cottage. Oddly, we didn’t really notice it whilst there, apart from the smell coming from the snug. We recognise the cottage is probably old and accept sometimes issues like water ingress does happen especially when we get downpours like we had whilst staying there, but it seems such a shame on such a beautiful cottage that has been otherwise well maintained. The property owner did seem quite dismissive to the other people who gave feedback about the issue, but I hope this time they take it with the good faith the feedback is being given in.

  • "The cottage was lovely, well placed and equipped."

However when we arrived it smelt damp and we noticed the fireplace wall in the main lounge/diner was very damp. The same wall in the bedroom above was also damp. The small window in the en-suite bedroom was broken and would not close.

Hi Amanda, I am sorry that you didn't find the. cottage as welcoming as other guests have experienced. The entire interior of the cottage was recently re-decorated and the decorator did notice that water might have been entering the chimney which was leaving a stain on the chimney breast. This is not damp. We asked our cleaner to check the cottage for damp and she and another person in the village visited and confirmed that there was no dampness or smell. Maybe the sight of the stain made you feel like the cottage was damp? Whilst we always welcome and respond to feedback we feel this review which you have decided to publish is very unfair. • "Lovely cottage in a quiet village well placed for many of Cornwall's best bits."

Nice pub with good food in village with a fun quiz on a Thursday night. Nice welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and milk but a few logs would have been appreciated. Also need an outside light in the porch to get the keys and to light steps to the garage, where there is an additional fridge freezer. The folder is out of date referring to a laundry bag we couldn't find. These are all minor things that would not put us off booking this cosy comfortable cottage again. Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you liked our cottage. Unfortunately we find it difficult to provide logs for every guest as we do not have the storage space. We provide logs at the start of the winter season and ask that guests replenish them but this doesn't always happen. There is a light in the porch so I guess you either didn't find the switch next to the door or the light bulb had gone. We are checking whether the bulb had gone and will replace. Thank you for pointing out the welcome booklet needed updating, we are in the process of doing this. We hope to see you back at Trelan. Thank You. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property with everything you need for a comfortable stay."

Lovely location but quite remote and you need to drive to find a shop for groceries etc. Roads are narrow around the area and ignore sat nav - it will send you on very narrow roads where locals drive very fast! Loved our stay in the Cottage!

Thank you Amanda, I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay. For future guests, we are 2 miles from the beautiful fishing port of Mevagissey, 5 miles from St Austell, 2 miles from Pentewan and 1 mile from Heligan Gardens. At Heligan (besides the wonderful Lost Gardens) there is a local farm shop called Lobbs with butchery, bakery, deli, wine, staples. In Mevagissey, you find a bakery, coffee shops, convenience store, pubs, fish & chips, Restaurants. In Pentewan, you will find a Co-op, pizza, cycle hire, water sports, pub and coffee. St Austell is a reasonable sized town so has all the usual suspects in terms of supermarkets, petrol, shops. In the village itself there is a lovely country pub. Sat nav has a bad habit of sending you the back way from St Austell so would advise sticking to the main road towards Mevagissey and we are an easy mile off that road, avoiding all narrow routes. It was spotless and just as described. We have been on cottage holidays for the last 10 years and usually during our stay I find that something is missing, poorly maintained or broken but everything here was spot on. The large garage was an added bonus as it meant we could put the car away each night and we don’t have a small car. Would highly recommend this property.

It was spotlessly clean and welcoming. The beds are the most comfortable we have experienced. The only problem we encountered was the steps in the garden would benefit from a handrail . St Ewe is well situated for exploring the area and we enjoyed eating at the pub around the corner. Lobb’s farm shop at Heligan is very well stocked and worth a visit.

  • "A second enjoyable holiday with family, ideal accommodation for us, as grandparents we use the master bedroom with en-suite."

Well equipped and comfortable, some dusty items in master bedroom, candle lamps on window sill. No hand soap in en-suite and only one toilet roll in both bathrooms, in view of the high costs of holiday accommodation, I think these should have been provided, also an anti bacterial cleaner in the kitchen. On the plus side the cottage is spacious, stylish, very well equipped and in a lovely location, good parking, garden for relaxing and playing in and handy for the village pub where we ate four times. We spent many happy hours at Gorran Haven which is only ten minutes away which was perfect. Near to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey where we enjoyed a rib ride. I totally recommend Trelan!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and I’m really pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay. I have noted the comment regarding some dusty items and have asked house-keeping to do a thorough clean on their next visit. As a self-catered cottage we provide a wide range of items to allow guests to cater for themselves and enough household goods to ensure guests have what they need on the first night. Guests can expect a toilet roll in each bathroom and, generally, there is also handwash so I have noted this point to address too. In the kitchen there are a variety of different cleaning products in the drawer under the sink and a hand sanitiser on the worktop. I will ask for some anti-bacterial cleaner to be added. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage, although in a small isolated village, is centrally located so travelling around Cornwall is easy."

It’s very clean and well kept, with everything you could want to make your stay extremely comfortable. Plenty of things to keep both adults and children entertained as described in the write up. The garden is lovely and sunny, furniture and some outdoor games available. There is a pub serving delicious food at reasonable prices, with a very friendly atmosphere just a few steps away. The only negative I can think of is that the garage is only big enough for a small car, I have a mini and it just fit, and the parking area is only big enough for 1 car so if you take more than 1 car you might struggle, but saying that all the benefits out way the negative. I would recommend this cottage to both couples and families. Thanks for a fantastic stay, we hope to return next year.

  • "The holiday cottage slept 6 people yet the fridge wasn't big enough for 2 people."

The kitchen has no storage / empty cupboards for you to put food in. The second bedroom had no chest of drawers despite their being room for them so my clothes were left on the floor :( The twin bedroom had the tiniest chest of drawers that you could hardly fit any clothes in. The property smelt of damp especially in the bedrooms where you could hang clothes. The property opposite & to the side of the cottage was doing building work the whole time we were there so it felt like we were on a building site. Not worth the money at all very disappointing.

Unfortunately we can’t please everybody and we would encourage you to read the many lovely reviews from our guests. The fridge is a standard 61 litre fridge with a separate freezer in the outhouse so more than adequate for 6 people. That said, we have removed this freezer and added a new tall free-standing fridge/freezer in the garage which provides ample storage for fresh/frozen goods. There are 2 clear cupboards in the kitchen and a small integral/pull-out shelving unit for storage of larder goods. The 2 bedrooms referenced have hanging wardrobes with integral shelving for smaller items. There is room for a chest of drawers so we have now added one in to the double bedroom and supplemented the existing chest of drawers in the twin with a second set. Whilst the property had been thoroughly cleaned in readiness for our first guests post lockdown the property could’ve benefited from more airing that can be achieved by leaving the windows on night lock and which we’ve asked house-keeping to double-check when they are at the property. Regarding value for money, these guests paid £230 pp to stay in a beautiful Cornish cottage for 7 nights and we would surmise that this type of holiday proposition is simply not for them. • "This cottage is advertised for 6 people we were a party of 4 adults(2 couples) and 2 teenagers ."

The second double bedroom is too small we had to turn round a bedside cabinet so the door to the room would shut without hitting the cabinet. The other side of the bed the drawer of the bedside cabinet could not be opened due to the radiator . The windowsill was the only place to stand toiletries etc . There was only one chair. So with a small drawer cabinet in the wardrobe there was a lack of storage space. The fridge in the kitchen was not sufficient to store supplies for 6 people, important as there is no local shop. The worktops are cluttered and thus difficult to prepare food. As we had nice sunny weather we were disappointed as we were unable to hang out washing to dry . I am aware there was a washer/ dryer but not everything is suitable for that.

Really useful feedback, thank you. We have recently replaced the bedside cabinets in the second bedroom to address the problems you experienced in closing the door and have added baskets, for extra storage space, in the wardrobe. The fridge in the kitchen is a standard size with lots of local options for buying produce during your stay - Lobbs Farm Shop at Heligan offers a butchery, bakery and deli (1 mile), there is a small convenience store in Mevagissey (3 miles) and a variety of supermarkets, some offering home delivery, in St Austell (6 miles). We have chosen not to leave a washing line, instead a new washer/dryer, however have noted your cormment and added a clothes horse which will hopefully help future customers. Thank you again. , but after a bottle of bleach and a boiling water it was cleared . The expel-air in the en-suite needed to be cleaned was very dirty, and dust behind the chest of drawers in master bedroom just needs a feather duster down it again after every occupancy.
